Spoiler Free Review This is the final book in the Ruby Wolf trilogy, and the last book that Lola Glass has set in this world! *Insert crying uncontrollably emoji* I loved this book! Like with Ruby Wolf and Ruby Alpha, this novel wasn’t quite as amazing as the original trilogy, but I loved Merrick Blake from the start, and Hazel really grew on me. This book sees a lot of obstacles in Merrick and Hazel’s relationship, and it wrapped up the overarching plotline quite nicely. HEA? Trigger warnings
I love how Lola includes so many characters, family and relationship building scenes such as making homemade pizza, having dinner with others etc. and the importance of friends and family, as well as a partner.
Merrick was a solid character throughout, kind, loyal and thoughtful, and I really enjoy Liv and Jay’s relationship and how they worked things out!
As mentioned in my previous reviews, I haven’t enjoyed Hazel as a character and it was much the same in this book. She was so back and forth and a few things didn’t make sense, I think more so the writing of her was too abrupt, trying to portray her a certain way without actions or conversations to pair up with her own POV of herself.
Hard to explain exactly, but an example: a passage saying that when she started eating healthier, she discovered margarita pizza and ate it up to 3 times a day… that is in no way healthy eating and I’m not sure whether it’s not been explained well or it’s lack of information on the author’s behalf but there were a lot of those situations, especially around food and body image. The hit and miss in these areas probably bugged me most as I’m well informed and practiced with eating for nutrition for body and mind, and changing the body to personal goals.
It almost feels like a clash of the authors thoughts and Hazel’s as the character which don’t line up well, contradicting each other. Unfortunately I just found this story to be lacking depth and connection between events and conversations.
I….. what….? This book left me confused and frustrated. The ruby shatters, they become the ruby essentially, and to get their animals back, others have to have their energy drained. I feel like that’s the reverse of what should happen. Then they can’t touch? And they have to have all the other shifters touch them? Just those from the city or all? Things like that aren’t made clear throughout. Then, poof. Problem solved so they just bang for the rest of the book. You could absolutely stop around 80% and miss nothing more. This feels like a story line that absolutely did not need to be stretched out to a third book.
This was almost a DNF at like 15% but I want to finish this out. I’m confused as to how I’m apparently the only person that didn’t like this. Has no one else seen some of the inconsistencies, editing errors, and general overlooked vibe of this series (like just jumping ahead weeks at a time like it’s no biggie)? Every one of these books has just left me a bit miffed in a way. Glad to be done with them.
And as a side note, I hate that I didn’t love them more. There was so much potential and creativity for some new aspects of shifters and what not. But they just ultimately fell flat.

"My body wasn't mine anymore. I looked like a stranger to myself, and I felt like one, too" -From Ruby Mate
3 stars
I found this book the weakest in the series so far. The conflict seemed so forced, and I didn't care too much about the side plot line of Liv and Jay. Much of the book was just our MC and hero going around touching everyone but each other, or eating. Lots of eating. The last third of the book, the pace really picked up and pulled you in again.
I was supposed to receive an ARC via Booksprout in exchange for voluntarily leaving a review, but the file didn't work; so I used kindle unlimited to obtain a copy once it was out.
The Ruby shattered and now Hazel and Merrick are the heart of the city. The war is over but what happens now? Hazel and Merrick still have a long road ahead of them to save themselves and the city.
Hazel and Merrick did not disappoint in this book. The strength of character that Hazel and Merrick show us as a couple and individually really stands out in this book. The lengths in which they go to as a couple and individuals to save the city, themselves and each other is incredible. Merrick proves time and again that he will do anything for her. Hazel grows as an individual and learns many things about herself. They help each other heal from past hurts. Hazel and Merrick also need to find a way to grow as a couple so they can remain together.
I really loved the ending to this series, I only hope we will see more of Hazel and Merrick. The other characters are stubborn, gentle, kind, and supportive, these characters only add to the story. They also add to the personalities of Hazel and Merrick, they wouldn’t surround themselves with any other kind of people.
There were plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading. I didn’t want to put the book down until I had finished, then I was disappointed that it was finished. Happily ever after ending is always appreciated.
I highly recommend this book, and this series or anything written by Lola. Huge Fan who will continue to read anything she writes.

I’ve decided to DNF this book, which I know will be an unpopular opinion after reading all the other reviews on this book. I’ve got to 50% through and I had hoped that things were gonna grab me more in this final book. The first and second books were 2.75/3 stars for me I wasn’t particularly hooked on the plot and I wasn’t invested in the characters as I have been in other books by this author. I’d hoped with everything coming together in this final book that connection was click for me but halfway through and I’m still not feeling particularly connected with character or the plot because I feel like I know exactly where is going to go. I really enjoyed the original trilogy in this world and Lola glass is an amazing author but I just don’t feel the connection with the series for me. I will definitely be checking out her new releases and I’m just marking this trilogy as a one off that wasn’t for me.
Thank for an ARC copy of this book, my review is written voluntary to share my thoughts on this book.
I was honestly so surprised by the way this series ended (in a good way!). This was a great final book in the trilogy, and I really enjoyed all the unexpected twists and turns. I think Lola did what was best not just for Merrick and Hazel, but also for all the members of the shifter community that she created. I'm really happy with the way all the characters ended up. In terms of the plot, I thought the focus on Hazel's struggles was authentic, and I imagine there will be readers who can identify with (not the exact same situation because that would wild, obviously) but with similar feelings, and I appreciated that was given the right amount of time and focus. This book is about the issues we have with ourselves and overcoming them just as much as it is about problems others lay at our feet. I'm sad to say goodbye to Merrick and Hazel, but I'm excited to see the next Lola Glass series!
Hazel deals a lot with her trauma from the last book and it takes up majority of this last installment. Relationship boundaries are tested. A lot. And the sex is hot. And the after-effects of avoiding trauma is a little trippy. I always love when the author gets down to her characters dealing with things that have no words, no faces or no reason until they’re sat down with and talked about.
I still think this trilogy was overall short. A lot could’ve been delved into, but I got the impression that this entire trilogy was just about Merrick and Hazel, and I was ok with that too.
I just finished all 8 books in the Wolfsbane series and wow… what beautiful and dynamic characters they were. This is my new favorite wolf shifter series. Lola writes phenomenally. It felt real and raw and I really felt like I could relate to some of these characters journeys. I enjoyed how at the end of the books she wrote a bit about the writing process with the characters and her journey getting to know the characters as she wrote. I also enjoyed how Roman and Merrick were “alpha males” that we always love to read about, but they weren’t toxic asf. I highly recommend this series!
It was a decent story arch and yet I felt something was missing but I can’t put my finger on it.
I loved Merrick but I felt he gave too much to the relationship and tries so hard to make her happy but hazel doesn’t really try to change too much for Merrick. Maybe that’s just the way I saw it.
Not sure if I’ll read a lot more of Lola Glass as I’ve tried reading some of her other books before but only got through the one book in a series. I just don’t think I connect with her characters.
They are decent quick reads but not something I’ll come back to in the future
These books started out okay. Lost most interest by the second book. 3rd book I'm like okay kept reading for a great ending. It was anticlimactic. Thought for sure they'd go after the witches, who put the Ruby curse on them. The first book before these were great guessing by the names it was their parents. Yes Hazel found shifter city, went thru a few interesting times got mated , all shifters turned human, Hazel& Blake turned them back after the ruby was destroyed, they got rid of the curse. But was mostly turned into not the powerful Alphas they were. Disappointed though .
The third book wasn’t necessary should’ve been wrapped up in one book
Fell in love with the first book had high hopes for the second highly disappointed third book was a waste of brain power and brain mass and I just wanted to finish it. The characters develop any further that the climax wasn’t even a climax if it was like oh, she came to fight what. Drama for drama sake like there was no character development. There was nothing to move the story along like we learned nothing about the ruby we learned nothing about why they were Ruby wolves creatures. We learned nothing more. This book was just filler. Either we didn’t wanna retire the story or what
Loved the conclusion to this trilogy. Hazel’s journey to accept herself was the harder battle than the fights in Shifter City and that made this book feel so honest. Sometimes it’s so much easier to fight an external battle and I really liked how the author decided to put so much focus on Hazel’s internal struggle. She seemed that much stronger as a character, getting to see that side of her. The ending of this book is great and I think fans of this series and the one before it will feel satisfied.
I love the way Lola writes family. I liked getting more Henley and Roman as well as our new crew. The homemade pizza scene was great. I loved everyone's relationships continuing to grow and develop. The character development in these books is always so solid. I really love Merrick, and seeing how him and Henley grew together was great. Henley had a lot of growth in this book. She finally had to deal with everything she's gone through in these past books. I liked Jay and Liv and Chandler and Noah's relationships too. I'd love more from this world, and I can't wait for what Lola does next!!
This was a great end to a trilogy that focused on two characters who had to find strength in each other. Hazel’s mental health is truly challenged after the trauma she experienced at the hands of the cat shifters and when the Ruby shatters and curses all the shifters, Hazel and Blake are pushed almost to the breaking point. Watching them cope with being unable to touch and actually become closer and find a greater depth to their mating bond was inspiring. I could do nothing but root with my entire soul for them to find their happy ending. And to see Liv find hers, too? Bonus!
As with the Wolfsbane Trilogy, the characters are strong and easy to like (even the idiot Noah!). The female characters are independent and ready to fight back; but unlike many stories with such characters, the author writes with a kinder, far less annoying hand. The characters have issues which they work through as the stories progress and I think that is why I enjoyed them so much. I will certainly be reading more of Ms Glass…..her worlds are fun.
I have to say this book left me a little disappointed. Hazel decides to push everyone away and then gets upset when Merrick tries to give her space while also being there for her. It seems she is intent on keeping everyone at bay. This book was very short with the main plot of touching people to connect them back to their animals. Most of this could have been summarized and could have used that space to further develop the characters and actually work through the trauma instead of just shutting down.
I love these books and the world Lola Glass has created. I'm sad to see these shifters' story come to a close. Merrick is one of my favorite alphas because he is so different. His bear personality is refreshing compared to your normal hot headed possessive wolf. I was glad to see Hazel and Blake choose their own happiness at the end. You go through hell and at the end you don't want to be leaders of a civilization, you just want to have a family and I loved that.

This was a satisfying ending to the trilogy. Of all the characters, Merrick was my favorite. His personality was good, and his calm patience was reassuring throughout. The author gives us answers to any remaining questions and leaves us with the feeling of a successful job well done, and character issues resolved or better understood. This was a pleasurable series that I am sorry to see end.
Really loved the series. I feel like this book kind of made a great conclusion to some interesting things in the book. Sometimes we have to do what is not wanted of us and it actually becomes the best thing. Like how they deal with the curse. A cautionary tale as well of being careful what you wish for. Liv was my favorite in how she deals with her true mate Jay. Hazel and Merrick grew up a lot and grew together in a great way too.
RUBY MATE by Lola Glass is an amazing story that I have had the privilege to read and give my honest opinion on. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have been so hooked on. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about wolf shifters, urban fantasy , fantasy and paranormal romance.

This has been an amazing story from book 1 of Wolfsbane to book 8! I loved all the characters from Henley and Roman to all their friends and family. Lola Glass has written all of her characters with love, sass and fierce loyalty. I loved that so many of her cash owed up throughout her books. Thank you Lola and I look forward to reading more of your stories!
Rating for the trilogy: Definitely read the Wolfsbane trilogy first (and the 2 novellas are worth it) as the Shifter City trilogy continues from that story. Without giving anything away - I’d say this is trilogy worth a read, although now I’m done I don’t know what to do with myself - Maybe another novella Lola hint hint wink wink?! P.S. I read this on Kindle, there was an epilogue then a bonus bonus epilogue via a link to Bookfunnel
This is a fantastic ending to the series. It makes sure to answer all those questions about what happens with every person. I also liked the way they addressed the issues of Hazels PTSD. I really enjoyed this series and hope that all who read it does too. I look forward to more from Lola Glass.

This was a great final book in the trilogy, and I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns Lola oh us through. The character development is always very strong and thorough in all of her books. I hate saying goodbye to these characters as I get really vested in the MGM as the series grows, but I'm happy with how it ended and can't wait to see what comes next!
Gotta love how Hazel & Blake learn to navigate how to get know each other, and handle all the problems life keeps throwing at them. Well written so that you feel the pain of the characters. I relate to Hazel’s feeling of never fitting in, and her personality was charming.
I really enjoyed these series of books. Love love them I couldn’t get enough. I also enjoyed the other short books about Jamie and London it was nice to see the other characters side. I would love to read the other characters though. Good story line made me laugh and cry and to me that is a good book.
I have to admit… I am really bad with reviews. First time here, but after devouring series after series written by Lola Glass I decided to stop and leave a review 👍👍👍👍👍👍. So far her series always balance to perfection the steam vs true love in various contexts while telling engage stories. So, do you Lola Glass as the author? Go for it. It’s going to be worth the time.
So I have read many of this author's books. And I have to admit this is my very favorite of all her series. I became very attached to the characters. Now that I have read this book, I'm going to have to go back and read the series involving her parents. Can't wait to see how this all began.
I enjoyed this while series (and the one before) it was good to see her relationship with her parents and how the characters developed. I was a little confused about what happened with the ruby how that related to the MCs predicament of not being able to touch. I'm good it had a HEA at the end. it would be nice to have some more books with other characters like jay and liv
