An omega raised as a wealthy human in the lap of luxury... A Harley riding alpha who rules a pack of pot-growing wolves in a commune... what was fate thinking?
Sky Blackwood is an omega wolf who’s only ever lived a fabulous, all-too-human existence in the wilds of… Beverly Hills. A place where your best friend will smile in your face while stabbing you in the back if there’s money or fame involved.
He’s heard about fated mates and the old-school shifters who still live in packs, but those were just stories. Until they aren’t. Sold by his family, Sky’s saved from the auctioneer’s block by Devon—a sexy alpha wolf who looks like surfer Thor, drives an even sexier Harley, and smells like everything Sky never knew he wanted.
If fated mates are real, what if all those other stories about packlife are as well?
Sky feels like he’s on the best adventure ever as he learns to live like a shifter. With Devon’s help, he’s ready to settle into the peaceful commune life. Only problem? Even paradise can be a camouflage for something darker.
Having grown up among people who hid their evil behind friendly smiles and designer clothes, Sky soon realizes Devon needs help if they’re to survive the unseen threat. He’s not worried, he was taught to “handle people” from the cradle, a few hippies with criminal intentions shouldn’t be too difficult, right?
The pack’s problems are easy to fix, but his real issue… not so much. What exactly is expected of an omega and how is he supposed to actually do it? Fortunately, his mate’s brothers know a few omegas who are all too happy to help.
The West Coast Wolves is an mpreg series about five alphas. A small pack of bikers who spent years riding the highways and helping those in need until fate gave them each a pack to lead. This full-length novel is Devon’s story. Prepare yourself for a dual pregnancy, an omega discovering his power, and more giggles than are appropriate during violent scenes. But then again, this is a Susi Hawke book, so what else can you expect?
I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!
I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.
As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.
I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! I only send out NL's to announce new releases or important announcements. I also like to note in my NL what I'm currently reading along with a cover shot and the link for anyone who is interested.
I liked this one a lot, it had humour as well as a sweet spark between Sky and Devon and the whole pot farm element really worked well.
I also appreciated there was a lot more of the West Coast Wolves as a pack in this one, even though they're all off doing their own thing, we saw plenty of the other guys from the first three books.
The plot itself is solid, it centres around traitors inside the pack and how Sky's omega power of being able to see someone's eyes changing colour when they lie comes in very handy.
There's not as many smexy times in this as you might expect with an mPreg omegaverse but it totally fits within the narrative and Sky and Devon are super sweet together.
I also very much appreciated Gramps, he was a lovely addition to the pack and it was great to see Tucker, the one WCW who doesn't have a territory of his own, and his gang of bikers and now I can't wait for his story to round out the series.
This has been an overall enjoyable omegaverse, one that's probably a great intro for anyone who's not read any of that type of trope before.
#ARC kindly received from the author via Gay Romance Review Tours in return for an honest and unbiased review
Sky is absolutely, positively a gift. He's a joy and delight forever. He's just so sweet, funny, loving, and snarky, all in the best way possible. I really loved watching him and Devon together, because even though Sky wasn't raised in a pack, he was all like, yeah, let's do this when he found Devon.
It was great to see Sky grow and just get everyone to love him, or at least most everyone. He really managed to get people to do what he wanted without really pushing too hard. Devon is so lucky to have Sky as his mate.
Nice story, considering there was a lot of fluff, there was also a bit of a mystery and suspense going on. I liked Sky and Devon together and loved the idea of a hippy pack, think that's because I'm a hippy at heart. One thing I didn't really enjoy, was the whole giggling omega thing that was going in. and the alpha wolves indulging their mates, as if they were small children. Found this somewhat stereotypical.
This is one of those series that laces a serious topic with enough humor to cut through the heartbreak. It gives readers, as well as the characters a sense of hope that they otherwise might not have. It’s only one of the things that I’ve come to expect and love about the West Coast Wolves series. The fact that the sense of family is strong and front and center and the support and loyalty that comes with that is what really pulled me in and has kept me invested in all the characters.
Fate is also a strong force and mentioned often in this series, but it’s much more than the “fate” that we normally think of. In this case, it’s almost a cognitive being and it’s almost impossible for those who have been affected by it not to believe in. As both the West Coast Wolves Alphas and the Omegas find their fated mates, it’s kind of hard not to believe that an outside force had a hand in them all coming together. I’ve adored all the pairings so far, but Sky and Devon’s HEA was one of the most entertaining. Except for the part where Devon’s pack was secretly plotting against him. *sigh*
Once again, the strength of the Omega’s gift was shown to be a perfect match for the Alpha who needed it. Sky was underestimated by his family and Devon’s pack. He may not have been raised with a “pack” mentality, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t have a clue when it came to the true nature of people. With the support of Devon and his new family he proved that anything was possible.
There’s one more member of the West Coast Wolves to find his HEA and from the way things ended with The Groovy Alpha, The Bewitched Alpha is sure to be entertaining.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of The Groovy Alpha. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I knew the minute that Sky was rescued and Devon was his partner, there was going to be a lot more to this story. I had a feeling some of the old was going to creep into this newness as well as some major changes. Only one thing surprised me that I was expecting to happen that didn't. And that was Sky's family. But in the end, we find out why and it's a hoot.
Sky had a specialness to him from the get go. I knew as soon as Devon sniffed him out amongst all the bad, there was going to more to this. I was right on quite a few instances in this book, and boy was I glad to see Sky finally come into his own. And did he ever. He flourished from the minute Devon wrapped his arms around him and never stopped. And to me that's just part of what made him so special. Despite being in the situation he was in, he held his head high. OH he was scared to a point, yes, but he was going to hold himself with dignity and I admire that in him. What I love about Devon is that from the beginning he let Sky be who he was made to be. His equal, his mate, and most of all, himself. He didn't discourage Sky from being anything other than who he was, and because of it, they both learned a lot more about each other, their 'brothers', and the packs in general.
It takes someone strong but knowing when to hold their tongue and keep the peace to be able to run things sometimes. Sometimes you need the flat out power of someone like Devon to make things come out quickly, but sometimes it takes someone like Sky to hold back Devon's tongue for a bit in order for him to see the bigger picture of things. And Devon really needed that in Sky. Sky's special gift helped save many of things going on, because he knew who to trust and who not to and it went a long way in making things to the point of mending.
There's no doubt these two were meant to be together and to bring the pack together in the way it was meant to be.
And with everything that's coming up from the end of this book, it's going to be needed more than ever. If everyone can stop laughing, that is.
*4.5* The Groovy Alpha is another great addition to the West Coast Wolves series by Susi Hawke. It has a lot going for it and is entertaining from start to finish. Sky is a young man who has come from a life of money and priviledge but that doesn't stop him from diving into life at the commune that Devon inherited as his pack when he legally killed their alpha. The two have hot chemistry from the start and I love the banter that they have, mostly keeping things light but not afraid to touch on harder subjects too. It's not long before their bond is formed and they forever come as a pair and united front. Unfortunately, all is not well with Devon's pack and the bad apples make themselves known. Devon's brothers waste no time stepping forward to help and they are once again fighting side by side to ensure the safety of the innocents and his pack's survival. It's found family in the best form and it's great to get to hear from all of the men from the previous books, having them pop in and out of the story as well as learning who is getting their own mate in the next book. It did take me a moment to catch up with who was who and what was happening when the story first starts as we meet the two MC's, Devon and Sky, moments after their first meeting when Sky is rescued at an auction by Devon and the rest of the West Coast Wolves. A story packed with drama, both good and bad and showing the best sides of the WCW and their mates. It's enjoyable getting to know another pack and I'm looking forward to who's coming next. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This is the 4th book in this WCW series and is true to this author's style jockularity with the added element of seriousness. As with the other books in this series The Groovy Alpha has excellent main characters in omega Sky and alpha Devon and has a great plot line. Devon is the new Alpha of the Hemet commune that's a pot farm. But he has problems facing him that with his newly discovered Alpha Mate Sky problems will be solved. This is one hilarious story with lots of 70's pun, one-liners the reader can't help laughing over and with those characters that say them. There is an undertow of attacks and threats from the previously defeated Alpha James' son Delbert, stolen plants, barn & RV fires, betrayal from within the commune, neglectful parenting, and children suffering. Some pretty heavy themes for light-hearted Sky to face but he does so with aplomb. Devon is a wise alpha who knows when help is needed calling on his WCW brothers is a no brainer. Sky's power of recognizing lies plays such an important role in getting this commune back on the right track. And with side characters as Gramps, Heather, and even horrible Stacy this story flows to a HEA that is great. This is my ARC review for the book I received.
What do you do when your mate is from the opposite side of the tracks? When Sky is rescued from the auction block by a bunch of rugged shifters which include his mate, he takes it all in stride. Sky never thought that fated mates were just stories until he meets Devon. Never in his wildest imagination would Sky have thought that he would go from Beverly Hills to a commune but that is where he ends up with his mate. Can Devon and Sky find their way before their enemies take it all away?
I really enjoyed Sky and Devon’s story. The two are great together. I adore Sky and love the banter between the two men. Sky has a beautiful heart, and he shows it in all he does for those he cares about. Devon is a good Alpha and does all that he can do for the pack and those that are special to him. The two work well together and make good leaders. I enjoyed watching Sky find not only his place but himself as well. It was nice to see the help and support that all the WCW wolves give each other. Not only did the main characters have something to say but many of the supporting characters shined and I am eager for the next book in this series. The author weaves a wonderful story for Devon and Sky giving the reader a well-rounded story that has a good mix of action and romance.
Thor rescues you. The Groovy Alpha & his pot farm are only the beginning!
OMG I love this series! You have got to read the rest of the West Coast Wolves books. They are back! I have waited for Devon's story to arrive. I hopped right on board the Harley and went for a wild ride! From a rescue of a fated mate, to a city omega learning to be both a wolf & Alpha Mate, to betrayal & treachery, mpreg. And the best ever redneck mansion, this book has it all. You will fall in love with Sky as he learns to love both country and pack life, fully accepting Devon as mate & Alpha. Thor's Hammer takes on a whole new meaning. There are hot sexy times, sometimes hilarious, sometimes soft & loving. Lots of old friends, and some new ones. Omega super powers save the day. Ooh, did I mention adorable babies and a wonderfully funny Gramps who finds a surprising lady to love. And of course, the pot farm. Yes, there is a dark side, violence & death. But it is necessary & not offensive. Bad guys get what's coming to them; the good guys win. You are gonna love this book! The next book is set up...I can't wait! This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
Due to unexpected things, it took Susi Hawke longer to get this book out than what she originally planned but it was worth the wait. It’s my favorite of the series so far. You really do need to read this series in order as so much of the stories are interconnected.
Sky is a delightful omega. This book has lots of humor in it and a lot of that is due to Sky. At first you might think that he’s a spoiled, rich brat but he soon proves that isn’t the case at all. Devon can handle Sky and all of his cute and sassiness; these two make a great couple.
There’s a rich cast of secondary characters, both new and returning from previous books. The fact that Devon’s pack grows pot added a fair amount of levity in places but it also provided the means for some of the conflict needed for a good story.
The ending was great. It sets up the final book but the romance for Devon and Sky is concluded so I wouldn’t say there’s a huge cliffhanger. It was definitely enough of a tease to make me want to read Tucker’s book, The Bewitched Alpha.
A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
The Groovy Alpha is the fourth book in the West Coast Alphas book. I have read the other books as well and would recommend to read all books in the series to fully understand them.
Sky has lived a luxury life. He was raised as a human but then his father decides to sell him in an omega auction. There he meets his fated mate Devon. Devon is the leader of a pack that grows weed. But somehow there is more going on in this pack. Luckily he has four friends that will help him.
I don’t know what is with this book, but I just couldn’t connect with this one as well as with the other ones. I liked Sky and I liked Devon, but somehow the chemistry between them didn’t work out for me. But I liked the story and that we saw a lot of the other characters from the previous books. The writing was typical Susi Hawke, as it contained a lot of fluffy and giggles and over-the-top writing. You have to like it. I liked it in the previous books, but in this it just didn’t work out for me. But still, as I like the series and the story, 3 stars.
*I received this book as an ARC. I chose to leave an honest review.*
This was such a fun addition to the West Coast Alphas series! I guess this installment could be read as a standalone, but I think you'll find more enjoyment if you read the series in order.
Sky and Devon were perfect for each other. Sky was so sassy and resourceful. I loved how well he adapted to life in the commune, especially seeing as he was a rich kid of Beverly Hills before. And Devon was all growly and possessive, but also sweet and supportive of his mate. They were really hot together and just complemented each other to become the best versions of themselves that they could be.
Gramps was a hoot and Jimmy was all kinds of adorable! And I loved seeing the other West Coast Alphas and their mates helping Devon and Sky with their pack problems. I hated Stacy with the fire of a thousand suns and was really happy with how that little problem was dealt with. LOL
This book was fun, engaging, intriguing, and hot and probably one of my favorites in the series. I definitely have no trouble recommending it.
***Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure. A review wasn't a requirement.***
I loved this newest addition to the West Coast Wolves series! After the little bit of Sky we got in the last book, I was so excited to get an entire book of his snarky kindheartedness! As with other books in the series, there is a light suspense plot that runs throughout the story, which I always enjoy, and lots of schmoopy happiness among the WCW and their mates. Devon and Sky are hilarious and super sweet together and I love how well they complemented each other, especially in regards to running their pack. The ending was amazing and the epilogue had all the feels! I love the little (for now) family that Devon and Sky have created together. I am so excited for the next book in the series after the lead-in we got at the end of The Groovy Alpha and I am so looking forward to seeing Tanner dealing with a mate that isn't afraid to take charge! Great series with lots of fun characters and exciting suspenseful plots! I received an ARC for an honest and fair review.
I loved this story!!. There is Devon who is an alpha who used to be part of a special MC. He becomes the alpha of a pack of wolves that is more of a commune when he kills their alpha when he caught buyng two child omegas. The pack supports itself by growing and selling medical marijuana. On another rescue mission he saves Sky, an omega wolf who is his fated mate. Sky is from a very wealthy and powerful family of wolf shifters. They seem to shun all things wolflike and hide their secret. When Sky refuses to marry the person his family chose, they sold him off to be auctioned off. Sky is thrilled to be rescue but is confused by his new strong feelings for one of the alphas who rescued him. This story covers how the two adjust to each other and handle unexpected problems in the pack.
I really enjoyed this story so much that I am planning to go back and read the earlier books in the series. I received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
Totally fun! Sky is an absolute gem. His upbringing prepared him to meet most challenges in the world with grace, sass and an epic situational awareness. His Grandfather, spent a lot of time telling him stories of his life, but didn't educate him much on being a wolf. Devon, took over the pack and thought he was being successful. He had an inclusive empowering management style that created certain perceptions that was not always flattering. Devon, rescued Sky and their relationship was cemented. They were complimetary and their journey to get acquainted was a hoot! There was good mystery and battle and intrigue and creative problem solving. Great group of pack members, found family and friends. I am looking forward to reading previous stories. Will Sky and Devon bond? Will Sky fit in with the pack? Will the pack accept Sky? Will Sky's family look for him? Great story. I wish it was longer. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Susi Hawke drops you right into a rescue that has already happened. Now if you are like me and have not read any of the previous books, you are scratching your head. You do find out what happened, but later in the book as after-thought.
I have read a lot of fated mates stories and this one just lacks that hunger and the why of it. I get that fated mates don’t get to pick...but I would have connected more with the characters if there was something more. Other characters are also fated immediately and once again you are left with an emptiness.
I think my overall suggestion would be to read the whole series. Hawke might explain backstories and connections in a more cohesive way, if you read from book one. I also want to note that I didn’t really find the “more giggles...during violent scenes…” that is advertised in the synopsis. Very disappointing. Oh and the love scenes...they are okay.
3.5/5 This was slightly different from the previous books from this series, I can't really say from what aspect, except maybe for the characters. Sky reacted to the people and the situation presented to him in a very unusual way, keeping his cool in moments I expected no one to do. They both have pleasant character, and it was useful in this pack. The whole pot situation obviously required a plot where someone was trafficking something illegal, so I kind of expected it, but I liked how it went down. The one thing I noticed from Susi Hawke's books, is that the problems that are being portrayed during the whole book, get resolved way too easily, like the struggle is minimal, while the progress to come to the "final battle" is way more interesting. Final battle aside, I love how there are always adopted children in these books, and they are all so cute that I just can't. Now I need to read the last book so that I can find out the story of the last mate for the WCW's pack.
Sky and Devon story was a hilarious sweet read with a side of excitement, action and a little bit of mystery. I really liked the action and characters development and dynamics, how those two connected and how Sky integrated in the family. I loved how Sky supported Devon and how he helped together with his friends to weed out the bad seeds from Devon’s pack, how he connected with the pack pups and how he gained trust of the important pack members. They face hardships, betrayal and backstabbing from the ones who were supposed to support their leadership and seek the wellbeing of pack. Thanks to Sky secret power, the helps of his brothers and a couple of new found friends they succeed in protecting the pack and in revealing and stopping the ones who wishes them harm. It was an exciting read and I'm looking forward to the story of the last unmated brother.
I love this author’s books and I have thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the West Coast Wolves series. This book was right up there with the rest of them. Devon's pack in Hemet is in a bit of a crisis and he can't see it at first. His new mate Sky thinks something is rotten in the pack though and he knows other wolves are lying to his Alpha. These two make a very unlikely pair but it all works as fated mates should! I love how all the brothers of the WCW and the remaining omegas from Charlie's time in captivity are all finding their homes and fated mates. As Sky and Devon work to solve the problem infecting his pack from within, they also are learning how to rely on each other and find new pack members and family. I also love the character of Gramps.. He is a hoot! These books are quick reads and are just the right amount of danger, fluff, and sweet fun.
This great addition to the West Coast Wolves series has a very funny new Alpha Mate. He really carried the story. He tried to be patient but other people's foolishness really pressed his last nerve til he snapped, crackled, and verbally popped some much-needed targets within his new pack.
Coming in with fresh eyes he was able to detect much of what was wrong and begin to set things right, much to the chagrin of the packmates who had been under the former Alpha's reign. The Omega endeared himself to others with his well-thought-out suggestions for improvement. Luckily he had his Alpha's complete confidence and love. Along with other West Coast Wolf Alphas and Betas they were determined to route out the traitors in their midst.
This is another great story in the WCW series. Although it's not necessary to have read the other books, it would help you understand the history of all the brothers and mates who weave in and out of this story. Regardless, this is a fantastic, fun opposites-attract, fated mates story. Sky was raised as a well-off human in Beverly Hills, while Devon is a part of a motorcycle club. They are perfectly sweet together. I loved the way Sky helped Devon with the marijuana-growing pack while struggling with learning his role as an omega. The continuing support of the alpha brothers and all the omega-mates is great. Found family for the win!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This book has everything. I have loved the west coast wolves since book one. This book was so good and Sky really stole my heart. Devon was also amazing. It has humor throughout and made me laugh throughout. It has characters to love, characters to hate, but the perfect blend to keep turning the page. Devon and Sky became instant favorites, and I loved Sky's amazing ability to draw people together. Also how ability to take problems and fix them. Despite the problems this pack faced this book had everything perfect. To me this is an absolute must read. I received an arc in exchange for my honest review.
Confession: this is my very first Omegaverse story and well...let's just say this subgenre isn't for me. I'm not sure just what aspect doesn't work - the mpreg or the fated mates trope. I'm also not cool with the "me big alpha, you dainty omega" vibe I get from these types of books. With that said, I kind of enjoyed "The Groovy Omega", but not so much to the point of being sucked into the story. Granted, I started in the middle of a series so there are a lot of characters who are just names.
Again, let me gather my notes before finishing my full review. Needless to say if anyone can recommend an Omegaverse novel in which said omega is a buff bad ass, please recommend.
Oh, the snark! I adored Sky and his brash attitude. Devon's first look at Sky has him completely smitten. I liked that, even though he was brought up with money and privilege, Sky accepts people as they are and tries so hard to connect with everyone in Devon's pack. There is plenty of cloak and dagger, scheming, and lies to keep the couple on their toes. I laughed repeatedly and many times out loud at the antics going on. Heather, Tucker, and their boys were a wonderful addition to the story. Gramps was a hoot and I could see where Sky got his sass. I cheered when the bad guys were taken out but the final chapter was, by far, the cherry on top.
This is the 4th book in the series, it is however the first I’ve read and I’m usually reluctant to start late in a series. But. It stands alone well even if I met characters I should already know. (FYI I’ve bought the other books today). Devon and Sky are great fun. I love the fated mates instalove thing. We have shopping and decorating shenanigans, internal pack betrayals, fighting, loving a fantastic Grampa and loads of kids, all wrapped up like only Susi Hawke can. I’m looking forward to Tuckers book now.
I love this series! This book had funny moments that made me laugh out loud. Sky and Devon compliment each other very well. From the blurb I thought that Sky would be a stuck up and act like a child, but he proves that is not the case. He helps support Devon with his pot farm while protecting him when he realizes that something is off within the pack. The other Alpha best friends continue to shop up and support Devon as they have in previous books. I think that is part of what makes these series so strong is how intertwined they are.
Sky is a trust fund omega from the Beverly Hills. Devon is an alpha whose pack runs a pot farm. And lives communally. Opposites attract? Not so much. The omega is smooth, used to negotiating backstabbing socialites. And he's going to need all his skills to keep his pack and his alpha, safe. Their story is sweet with a little angst. There's a plot to steal an enhanced crop of pot. And to take over the pack. But with his brother alpha's help, Dev plans on winning the day. Exciting. Fast paced. A good read.
Sky is awesome... i loved the glimpse of him in the last book. And this book delivered a fantastic spicy omega. Sky grew up on the city, and knows nothing of a "real pack" but when his father sells him to traffickers and he meets his mate... he jumps in with both feet. Doesn't hurt that his mate was one of the wolves who helped free all the trapped omegas.
Now he's alpha mate, but he has a lot to learn.... his alpha.... owns a pot farm... this is going to be interesting
