Ridiculous. Imagine my surprise, I'm reading this book and all of a sudden (not really) I come across the hero's term of endearment for the heroine that showcases that he actually addresses her as a male. LOL. 🤡 What a way to start off a MF romance.
This happens when authors think that Google translator is their best friend, their daddy, their saviour, their cute little assistant. 💕
You see, in Russian the phrase "my little one" has different endings, which depends entirely on the gender of a person/thing referred to.
So, to be more specific: instead of "moy" (meaning my... boy/anything male) the hero has to say "moya", as in my... girl/female, in order not to sound like a loser.
"Malen'kaya" ("little" for female) instead of "malen'kiy" ("little" for male). LOL. It is repeated so often I do not know whether to laugh or get annoyed by the author's lack of fucks given when it comes to research.
Internet and access to any type of information as well as people that may serve as an infinite source of information exist for a reason.
So the whole thing comes cross as something too funny and weird to be annoyed at, but still too cringey for me to keep going.
Genuine question: if you can't research for shit, even if yourlife career and image (don't mind me being dramatic 💕) depended on it, or you're too shy/lazy to search people who might be able to assist you, why not just write everything in English?
Add something like "he said in Russian" and reap the fruits of your ingenuity and intelligence? Sounds pretty simple and awesome from my vantage point.
Grammar mistakes aside, some endearments sound plain weird and outright ridiculous. I mean who even says that? *Shudders*. Certainly not Russians, LMAO. Dimitri, you are sure as hell not Russian, but thanks for the comic relief, I guess?
And no, I'm not willing to turn a blind eye to it because the book content is even worse, thus the language misuse is not justifiable xx.
I'm not gonna waste my time elaborating on the story's other shortcomings though. This book is simply not worth my in-depth analysis. 💕

I didn’t think I would enjoy it, but I did.....this quick, down and dirty smutty read. I loved all of it.
Emma, the librarian student gets more than she expected when she knocks on the door of who she thinks is her benefactor to help her with school tuition. Instead it is this huge, gorgeous, tattooed Russian who thinks she is from an escort agency. There is some dub con but it was overall written well and incredibly sexy.
Plenty of steam and possessive Alphaness from the Russian Dimitri who cannot let go of this sweet girl although he knows she would be better off without him due to his criminal ways. Then there is Emma the shy virgin librarian who cannot understand her attraction to this obviously dangerous man.
This is my first book by Zoe Blake but will not be my last. It had my level of dark without torture and humiliation. If you are looking for a smutty read with darkness entrenched then I recommend this one to you.

Sweet Cruelty was the perfect blend of dark and delightful. With plenty of steam, the initial dub con was almost sexy. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Considering I couldn't put it down, I freaking loved it!

A case of mistaken identity and Emma would instantly become his. When Dimitri hired an escort for the evening, the beautiful girl in plaid skirts and Mary Janes was more then he ever anticipated. And he was keeping her.
A Russian arms dealer and a virgin librarian student, it shouldn't work for many reasons. Mostly because his darkness will eventually spill over. Except Dimitri can't seem to let Emma go. Her goodness, her innocence is alluring and she responds beautifully to his brand of roughness and discipline.
"Prim, proper, and shy on the outside but on the inside she was a little firecracker just waiting for someone to light her spark. Good thing I was the one with all the matches."
Where Emma is initially overwhelmed by the level of possessiveness Dimitri displays, she finds it difficult to say no. It isn't long before she's begging for more.
"You’re about to do what?"
"Take off your clothes."
"You can’t do that! What if the birth control fails?"
"Then I hope our daughter has your eyes."
These two burned up the pages. Even if this story was a case of instant lust, the level of Dimitri's obsession for Emma was decadent and depraved. Sometimes you just want all your favourite cliches written in a story and done perfectly. Well my wish was granted...

I really don’t like how this book completely skips over the fact that the main male character RAPED the main female character
I get that rape fantasy is a thing but this was not that. This was anything but consensual.
Dimitri rapes Emma, she ends up enjoying the sex towards the end and the she runs away. Goes home tells her roommate and her roommate calls her a slut. NO.
That is so far from okay.
The way they talked about her experience with Dimitri, they made it sound like Emma went home with a stranger from a bar or club to hook up. This was not that.
She was raped. Why the hell is this roommate calling her a slut and saying she’s jealous of Emma’s sexual encounter. Are you crazy!? And them Emma responds with something like “ does it really make me a slut? I slept with someone i don’t know”. Wtf. It’s like they don’t realize what happened.
And even if Emma in the end decides that she does not consider it rape that’s on her but as a friend, a person, her roommate should be worried about her and what happened instead she is acting like this is a normal hookup.

Imagine reading a steamy scene, the clothes are ripped off, the heroes are in the throes of passion and then suddenly, SUDDENLY the heroine's face is touched by the hero's GOATEE 👀👀👀
Aside form this crime against romance genre itself, the hero rapes the virgin heroine in the first half hour of their meeting. He mistakes her for a hired escort and thinks it's part of her play, but when he understands firsthand (or should I say firstdick?) that she is a virgin and NOT an escort, continues to ruthlessly pound her, chasing his pleasure. Meanwhile all this time from their meeting the heroine, instead of shouting loud and clear "I am NOT a prostitute!", timidly begs him to stop and that she is not that kind of girl. I'm not blaming her for being raped, just hate the deliberately slow and confusing communication, that is so often used in books and NEVER irl.
The heroine runs away from him, confides in her roommate and girl that is considered a GREAT AND LOYAL friend to her. The friend jokingly calls her a slut, says she's jealous of her great experience and blah blah fucking kill her blah. Every time the hero manhandles her, punishes her or controls her, the "best friend" convinces her it's for "her own good"! 🤬🤬🤬
Some of the $ex scenes were hot, but a lot of them disturbing. First we have their memorable rape time, but every time since that the hero makes the experience as painful for the heroine as possible for HIS pleasure. The engage in anal, which the heroine repeatedly said she didn't want, but the hero threatened her with punishment, so she gave in out of fear; during this activity the heroine is screaming from pain and begs him to stop, but he doesn't listen and pushes harder instead 💀💀💀💀
Also, the cherry on this pile of poop: THE USAGE OF RUSSIAN LANGUAGE . I checked the author's backlist, all she writes are russian mafia books. You'd think she was maybe some emigrated Зоя Чернова or something, feeling homesick and reminiscing about the culture. But then you see the first russian phrase 👀👀👀 and then the second, and the third and so on... Some of it doesn't make any sense, some of it is grammatically incorrect, and some of it sounds just plain stupid. NO russian speaking person would formulate a sentence that convoluted seconds before cuming into a woman 🤷🏻♀️😬

I love mafia romance with no owd and an ott protective J/P hero!
Emma is a graduate student working in a library who needs to ask for money from her benefactor in order to not be kicked out of college. The problem is that when she goes to the door of her “benefactor,” someone else opens the door- a huge, muscular, tattooed man with a shaved head, facial hair, and an intense penetrating look.
Dimitri ordered an escort/call girl; when he opens the door, he’s greeted with a demure, innocent college girl- good, because he’s ready to play, and she’s the perfect person to play the innocent, virginal card with. Except that she really IS a virgin and she really IS innocent- it’s all a misunderstanding and mistaken identity 😬. He figures out, in the most… um… primitive way… that she wasn’t lying 😅 but by then, he’s already claimed her as his 😉.
The opening interaction starts off noncon… she tries to fight but it’s no use- when Dimitri wants something, he’s going to get it. Even when she tries to stay away, he won’t let her. Once he realizes the type of person she is, he claims her and becomes overprotective and possessive.
The chemistry was 🔥 right away! Oh sweet Jesus and a bag of beans, their connections was intense. Yes, it started off in a questionable way (😬😅😉🥵), but they quickly go from 0-60 with no preamble. Dimitri is older and knows what he wants- and he wants Emma 👏🏻. Although Emma is a virgin in many aspects, she was drawn to Dimitri from the get go.
What I liked- I loved how dedicated Dimitri was, how possessive and obsessed he was (no other women anywhere 👏🏻), how protective and sweet. I mean, he actually dates her (swooooon🥰) and listens to her (I

What I wanted more of- I wish Emma didn’t always give in (especially after he punishes her). Standing her ground more would’ve been great. She tries, but continually fails, and then melts whenever he’s around. I mean, she could’ve slapped him or maybe pushed him around (😂I love that stuff). That’s just my preference. I dislike when the h’s don’t have a backbone- Thank god Emma wasn’t an h like that. Buuut more of a push/pull adds to the tension and that’s what I crave. I still loved it all.

If you like rape, go for it.
Not much to say other than that. How the hell this has 4.5 stars, I don't get it?!! Only read about 20%. RAPE. Not reluctant, not questionable, just rape. Heroine shows up at H's house thinking it's a different place to request money for school. H thinks she's a prostitute he ordered putting on a fake school girl act. Proceeds to spank them rape her after she said No and Stop clearly. You could say, mistake because he thought she was acting. But after he entered herald realized she was a virgin, he pulled out then confirmed she was over 18 and thought how he always takes things by force and she'd be no different, then proceeded to continue the rape. Afterward he didn't let her leave and threatened her with an ice pick. That's where I stopped reading. We have different ideas on romance and erotic. Also, there was a grammatical error in the very first line.

Emma is a graduate student working in a library who needs to ask for money from her benefactor in order to not be kicked out of college. The problem is that when she goes to the door of her “benefactor,” someone else opens the door- a huge, muscular, tattooed man with a shaved head, facial hair, and an intense penetrating look.
Dimitri ordered an escort/call girl; when he opens the door, he’s greeted with a demure, innocent college girl- good, because he’s ready to play, and she’s the perfect person to play the innocent, virginal card with. Except that she really IS a virgin and she really IS innocent- it’s all a misunderstanding and mistaken identity 😬. He figures out, in the most… um… primitive way… that she wasn’t lying 😅 but by then, he’s already claimed her as his 😉.
The opening interaction starts off noncon… she tries to fight but it’s no use- when Dimitri wants something, he’s going to get it. Even when she tries to stay away, he won’t let her. Once he realizes the type of person she is, he claims her and becomes overprotective and possessive.
The chemistry was 🔥 right away! Oh sweet Jesus and a bag of beans, their connections was intense. Yes, it started off in a questionable way (😬😅😉🥵), but they quickly go from 0-60 with no preamble. Dimitri is older and knows what he wants- and he wants Emma 👏🏻. Although Emma is a virgin in many aspects, she was drawn to Dimitri from the get go.

how have i never read books by this author before?? i picked this book up on a whim. i was in the mood for something dark and i'd recently bought this one, so as soon as i saw this one sitting on my kindle, i jumped right in without even reading the blurb! and needless to say, i loved it!

the book was a perfect blend of darkness, passion and love, and i enjoyed every second of it! Dmitri is ott possessive and sweeps into Emma's life like a tornado. Even though she is initially overwhelmed, she soon starts taking everything in stride and i loved that!

Listen, I'm all for a possessive, OTT alpha male but this may have been a little too nonconsenual for me.The story was just pure instalove smut and well I'm ok with that but I didn't like the belt punishment. I'm ok with spanking, rough sex and harmless kink but I draw a line for myself at the use of leather or other objects to inflict pain. It just doesn't do it for me but it's well written. I personally didn't think this was a romance at all times and that annoyed me but it was hottt. Maybe I'm being too hard on this book because I guess I should have known what I was about to read as it's clear from Blake's backlog what her stories may be like. But I read it so take my review however you want. I will continue this series.

She dressed up in her doc martin mary jane’s, pink sweater and plaid skirt and knocked on the door of what she thought was the home of Mr. Linus Fitzgerald III, elderly son of her former benefactor.
The Hero: Dimitri - he is Russian and is an international arms dealer. When he opens his door to an innocent looking young woman, he immediately claims her for the night. He thinks she was sent from an escort agency and when she says she is just there for the money, he knows how she can earn it.
The Story: From the very start this book got steamy. The language is overly flowery, and the situation is a bit too silly to be believed. Emma tries to fight Dimitri off and explain the mistake after first succumbing to his kisses, though he thinks she is an escort who is playing at being a shy virgin. She see-saws between being aroused and being afraid, but either way she doesn’t really try that hard to explain she went to the wrong house.
The writing wasn’t the best, the plot had a lot of holes, and the story was a bit far from believable, and there were famous quotes from literature at the start of every chapter which for me, didn’t do anything to elevate this one at all. Though it was good enough to keep listening to and I did want to see what happened next.
Though it was still a bit too much to be believed. In one scene Dimetri tracks Emma’s phone, finds out she is at a bar, takes a helicopter to the bar and gets there just in time to save her from an attacker who locked her in a storeroom with him. Then he punished her for the fact that she didn’t tell him she was going out that night.
The audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Lauren Sweet and Tor Thom. I love Tor Thom’s deep voice and he is one of my go-to narrators. Lauren Sweet has a soft, feminine voice that is pleasing, though there is something about her voice that gets on my nerves a bit.

This one is quite sweet despite of the dub-con at first and the kinky staff. Thus for me, it was not a dark book and I may have been a little disappointed because of it. However, it was a very well written darkish erotica/romance. Certainly Ms. Blake has researched and studied for the book. Congrats Ms. Blake, you are one of my favorites in this genre.

The story followed with some VERY VERY predictable scenes when the H is ordering h out of blues to stay with him, pays all her debts, don't open up in the beginning, track her through a phone gifted by him and yeah gifts her all the expensive things, save her in a drunken bar (where she's not supposed to go) and then punishes her ALL the time.
So that sums up the whole book actually...

Sweet Cruelty.. the title says everything! I'm getting a little Beauty and the Beast vibe from here, aka kinky fairy tale. Sweet Emma meets Dimitri after a case of mistaken identity and has captured Dimitri's attention ever since. Being a Russian mobster, Dimitri is not used to prim and proper but something about Emma's innocence made him wanna keep her.
I truly enjoyed the D/s relationship between Dimitri and Emma. He's a dominating man for sure but with Emma, he showed some really tender moments. But of course, there's also moments where he needs to teach his моя крошка a lesson..

I wasn’t really feeling this one, might be because I read it whilst on holiday and couldn’t really sink my teeth into it since I was having so much fun in the mean time.
The way the characters met was a bit hard to get over and whilst the sex scenes were hot, I just didn’t feel the connection between the two MC’s.
I also feel personally attacked by this statement…
“No guy wants a girlfriend who’s in her mid-twenties and still a freaking virgin. They’ll think you were raised in some cult in the middle of the woods.”
The way the characters met was a bit hard to get over and whilst the sex scenes were hot, I just didn’t feel the connection between the two MC’s.
