This book reminds me that we each have our own decision to make--follow and obey God and worship Him, or go our own way. Even if our father or grandfather or grandma or somebody knew and followed Him, we can't just ride their coattails to heaven or something. As 1 Kings 8:39b says about God alone knowing the hearts of all men, sometimes people even lie to their own selves, and can at times even believe their own lies. God truly knows! Let Him search your heart and show you your sins so you will know your guilt and shame and can then turn to Him and confess your sin, repent and turn away from it, and be forgiven and free to be with Him! I especially liked chapter 8. It tells me what whenever we sin, in any of these ways--any way--and confess and repent and pray for forgiveness and turn to God will all of our heart and soul, He keeps His promise, because He always does, and He will forgive us! 1 Kings 8:56 ...Not one word has failed of all the good promises He gave through His servant Moses.
God's Word is our blueprint and God does not disappoint. When we follow Him whole heartedly He gives us what we need. When we do go on our own way and leave Him behind because of the choices we make He does not give up on us but waits for us to repent and ask forgiveness and He forgives us right away. He only asks us to follow Him so that we live a life worthy of Him. Regardless of the time this was written God is God and He is always asking His people to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind and that will never change.
Elijah really is proof that sometimes all you need is a nap and a snack. I really love this book, the way that prophecies are fulfilled, Solomon’s wisdom, the miracle of raising someone from the dead for the first time, the way that God listens to our prayers… there’s just so much wisdom and beauty wrapped into these 22 chapters.
So good. Shows human nature at it's finest. It shows how easily we can be torn away from God just because of the sins of our ancestors and their ways of thinks.
