Once every century, a shadow walker is born. Ivan Charna is that shadow walker, and he and his sister Raina are on the run from wizards who want to sacrifice their blood in some crazy rite. They never stay long in one place, and they do their best not to stand out. When Raina loses a bet, Ivan is forced to work off her debt, and they have to stay put. As long as no wizard figures out what they are, Ivan doesn’t mind all that much since he gets to work with his favorite vampire.
Malik lives in a cell in a basement. He’s never allowed to go anywhere without chains around his wrists and ankles, and there is a stake hovering over his heart at all times. Master can trigger the stake with a push of a button. He doesn’t even have to be in the same room to do it. Malik dreams of a different life, a life with Ivan, but he’s a vampire, and vampires have to do what their masters tell them.
Ivan only has to steal one last diamond, then the debt is paid, and he and Raina can leave town. It should be easy, but when Remington Redwood, the man Raina owes money, insists on having Malik shadow his every step, it complicates things. Malik might dream about making Ivan his, but getting him away from Master alive has to be enough. Ivan knows it’s a stupid risk to take, but if he’s stealing a diamond, what’s to say he can’t steal a giant vampire too?
According to Holly Day, no day should go by uncelebrated and all of them deserve a story. If she’ll have the time to write them remains to be seen. She lives in rural Sweden with a husband, four children, more pets than most, and wouldn’t last a day without coffee.
Holly gets up at the crack of dawn most days of the week to write gay romance stories. She believes in equality in fiction and in real life. Diversity matters. Representation matters. Visibility matters. We can change the world one story at the time.
The world building in this story is fascinating: shifters, vampires, wizards, and some with magic that doesn’t quite fit normal parameters. The vampire lore here is different, as they’re enslaved and abused by humans, and I sort of want more stories in this universe if only so that there can be a grand uprising/rebellion/reckoning on the vampires’ behalf. This story is filled with interesting characters, including protagonists Ivan, the insouciant and talented thief, and Malik, the vampire who loves him enough to defy his Master and risk his own life to keep him safe. Plus Malik’s family members, also doing their best to survive in appalling conditions. A werewolf next door. And Ivan’s sister Raina, who was honestly the only character I didn’t really like: the way she treats Malik, like less than a person, sometimes, and the way she got Ivan in trouble in the first place, just did not endear her to me. There’s definitely a lot happening, and there’s never a dull moment on the way through the epic heist, escape, and HEA. The romance element to this story is somewhat rushed, or maybe condensed is a better word— Malik and Ivan move quickly through the stages of getting to know each other to being bonded together forever, and while it’s clear the depth of emotion on Malik’s side is there, Ivan is a bit harder to read: he seems to go into it all like just one more crazy caper, which is fine. Overall, however, this is an engaging read with deeply interesting characters.

Our typical shifters, vampires, and wizards are presented in this story in a different way, such as the vampires being subservient to humans and kept in chains.
Ivan Charna is a shadow walker, only one born each century. He and his sister, Raina, have to continually run from wizards who want their blood for a ritual. But Raina loses a bet which forces Ivan to work off her debt by stealing a diamond for Remington Redwood. But it puts them in constant danger to have to linger there.
Malik is a vampire kept in a cell in the basement of his Master’s home. He wears wrist and ankle chains and a stake, which can be triggered remotely, over his heart at all times. Malik wants a life with Ivan, but he is owned by a master and has no choice. Then he is ordered to shadow Ivan during the theft and will protect him with his life. Ivan knows it’s a risk, but can he “steal” the vampire after he gets the diamond?
I liked all the characters except for Raina, whom I thought was selfish and inconsiderate to put their lives at risk like she did. Vampires often get a “bad rap” but here they are mistreated and barely kept alive. I am looking forward to more books from this author.
OMG!!! This story was so much incredible fun to read!!!!
This author has once again managed to pack a short story chock full of excitement, danger, fights and yeah even a love story. The paranormal aspect with vampires and other creatures is well done and believable. What an awesome story!
Be aware there is some homophobic language in the novel, not hard core but there.
First - another Holly Day book, Yay!
Second - I needed a little more from this than I got. I love Holly's books, and like her others this was well written and funny (Remi and Wenior makes the *best* villans, lol!), however I didn't feel the relationship pull with Ivan Snow and Malik/Jack. I would have LOVED a bit more background on how their feelings developed, I'm fine with being dropped in the middle of a relationship but I needed a bit more background on WHY they felt the connection, and least on Ivan's side.
Third - if you're looking for highly tense action, explosions and action packed adventure, this is not your book and **I'm fine with that**. I liked the kind of "action as an afterthought" with more emphasis on the character interactions, another thing I love about Holly's books. She writes characters solidly, giving me who they are and their history. I must admit I'd like a bit more info on what Ivan was doing with his life before the story, but overall I enjoyed all the characters.
Holly, if you read this, if you'd like to pander to my wishes, I need an "wind up" collection of all of your books as to where the characters are 5-6 years from the end of the stories. As a reader, I want more!!
I loved this book! It was fun to read, I loved the characters, and it had action. There are vampires, shifters, and wizards in this world. This is one of the few books I've read where vampires are enslaved to humans rather than them being a danger to humanity. This group of vampires are treated poorly and my heart broke for them. I found this world really interesting and I hope there will be a sequel because it deserves to be explored more. And as much as I love Malik and Ivan, I really want to read more about his brothers and some of the other vampires he was locked away with. After the action, the ending came a little quicker than I thought it would. But I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. 5 stars.
This was a short and enjoyable read. There's not much past given for the characters, especially Ivan and Raina, but there was enough to understand them in the present. Holly's imagination is a fascinating thing. Different supernaturals are a constant in her stories, with vampires and shifters favourites of hers. Both are included here, along with another mysterious species. This is a different take on vampires. Their lives are not their own, kept in captivity in appalling conditions, with the humans being their jailers. Slaves to a cruel master, ill-fed and ill-used. Holly is very good at world-building and this is no exception. I loved Malik, bless him. He was a sweetheart, and his brother was too.
I loved reading this book. The pace is rather fast but the author has done a splendid job in ensuring the story isn't rushed. I loved how the characters interacted with each other, how the story did not merely revolve around the MC and how they all remain together after they were done with their mission. I also enjoyed the ending. The ending makes me hope that there will there be a sequel

Some jobs aren't as easy as they appear. Do this one thing and you have your freedom. What if you can't just walk away? Malik and Ivan have great chemistry. Perhaps we will see other books on other characters that gave this book additional life.
A vastly different take on the role of humans, vampires, shifters, and other characters. Vampires are slaves to humans. The complete opposite of what we normally read of humans living with a full awareness that vampires can bring.

This was not the usual take on a vampire story that I am used to so that made me want to keep reading. In this story the vampires are vulnerable to humans and Ivan, a shadow walker, finds himself in a precarious situation where he has a job to do but he wants to help Malik, a vampire being kept in a cell, to find his freedom. The twists in this story made me want to read to the end to see how things would work out for Ivan and Malik in what was a precarious situation.

I enjoyed this quick read and the characters Ivan and Malik. This book has a very different view of the paranormal world, with vampires being slaves to humans, rather than being at the top of the food chain like you usually see. The story moved pretty quickly, and though it was complete, I would have liked to see more development of the relationship between Ivan and Malik. I would love to read more stories from this unique world.

This is a well written paranormal story with strong characters and an interesting story line. The author brings an intriguing story with the vampires being the ones inferior to the humans. She pulled me in with her descriptive scenes and moves the story quickly and smoothly. Hope to see more from the brothers.

Shadow Walker (Ivan Charna) x Enslaved Vampire (Malik).
Another unique kind of supernatural pairing and love. The story has an interesting plot and I am quite curious on how or if, Ivan can somehow make it possible to steal Malik away from his so called Master without repercussions or dying in the process. 🤔
I loved Bring Him Back, Jack by Holly Day. It was pure fun with a little bit of heat and some action scenes and plenty of stealing going on. I'm hoping for more adventures from Malik, Ivan, and Raina as they steal more of Malik's family members from Remmington.

I think this is my favorite book of Holly Day so far. I am so in love with these characters and the story was so good. There were lots of thrilling moments. I love the main characters but also Zev and Reina and I would have loved to get to know Dante better as well. In general I would love more stories in this world.
This was a really good, quick read. I really enjoyed the different take on vampires and humans. I also really enjoyed the story. I’d like to see more from this world.

The story was interesting and will keep you reading to see what happens next. The story is a quick read, the characters fit well together and have great chemistry. Looking forward to read more.
Just from reading the blurb about the book you know that this is not going to be just an ordinary story. The author definitely doesn't disappoint. I loved this book. It was a fun and quick read. This is the story of Ivan and Malik. Ivan is a shadow walker that is stealing to pay back a debt created by his sister Raina. Malik is a vampire that is a prisoner. He belong to the man that Ivan is paying back a debt to. Malik and his brothers are kept barely alive to be used as an expendable commodity for his master. Ivan and Malik have done a few robberies together. This will be their last one. But the statement that there is no honor among thieves is about to come true. This is their story. The chemistry between Malik and Ivan is off the charts. The story is action filled and enjoyable. The supporting characters are intriguing as well. Ivan's sister Raina and her boyfriend blend perfectly into the story and add a layer of enjoyment. This book is well written and easy to read. You will be captivated by the characters. Sit back and take a quick escape from the everyday. You will not regret it. I didn't.

One of Holly Day's longer stories, and I was so very happy! This is a multi layered story and the longer wordlength allowed it to be fully developed. I still wanted more though, I wanted to see Cassius get free!
Signature Holly Day, with gorgeous characters you just want to hug.
I'm really sad I'm coming to the end of this author's backlist, but I can't wait for her new titles.
Holly Day is an author guaranteed to break my reading slumps, and this is agood example of why.
This quick read has an interesting take on the vampire human dynamic, lots of action, and a happily ever after. I'm sad I'm nearing the end of the author's back list.
