The Love Chirp

Rate this book
Neal “Rock” Roquemore earned his bad boy image with fights on the ice, and indifference to relationships off of it. When he’s traded to the new hockey team in Seattle, he’s not happy to be back in his hometown. He’s even less happy when a recording of him criticizing elements of the new practice facility goes viral. Especially when he finds out the architect is the only woman he’s ever loved...and walked away from.

Sarai Redlin watched the love of her teenage life walk away from her ten years ago, and she’s never forgotten the pain he caused her. Now, when she’s finally achieving her professional dream, Neal’s back and ruining everything for her again. This time, she’s older and wiser, and she’s not going to fall for him again...and there’s no way she’s going to undo all her hard work just because he doesn’t like it.

With the media and fans rallying against Sarai, Rock has no choice but to work out a compromise with her for the building design and amenities. A week on the island they both love might change everything for them again, but reality will eventually hit them hard once they’re back in Seattle. Can their love survive this time, or will they have to learn to live apart once and for all?

I need more time. More time with her. More time showing her I love her, even though this can't go anywhere. I just want her to feel loved, to know I didn't leave because I didn't love her, even if I said those words.

4.25 stars!

This was such a nice surprise of a read for me! I devoured this book in two days in between working as it was filled with plenty of sweet moments of reconciliation mixed with the harder moments of truth that come to light as Neal and Sarai finally confront their past. There were so many surprises that I was not expecting as we slowly learn the reason why Neal walked away from Sarai so callously when they obviously still have feelings for each other. The steamy scenes were nicely balanced with the sweeter moments of protectiveness from Neal, which I adored. Overall, I loved this story of second chance romance between Sarai and Neal, and I look forward to more by Crystal ♡

Crystal Perkins definitely knows how to write a captivating story and this book just proves it. Rock and Sarai's relationship progressed as we were getting more and more information on their past and together it made for a really interesting read. I loved these characters and their story had some very cute moments.

4.5 star reviews The Love Chirp (Metros Hockey #1) by Crystal Perkins

Having read a number of books by Crystal Perkins I was excited when I learnt that she had a new series releasing. The Love Chirp is the the first book in the series and if this one is anything to to go by then she has a winning series on her hands.

Neal “Rock” Roquemore is not a happy man as he has recently been traded to a new hockey team in his home town of Seattle. When he comes face to face with old flame, Sarai Redlin in a professional capacity he is even unhappier. For architect and interior designer Sarai, Rock broke her heart and now he appears to be trying to ruin her professional life as well. With his own career in the firing line it is up to Rock to smooth out his recent inflammatory comments in the media and work with Sarai with her designer plans for his new teams practice facility.

Sarai is determined that he will not get the chance to break her heart again. There is a lot of history between not only them, but their families as well and that causes additional complications. The chemistry between them is off the charts and the banter was witty which made for an entertaining read.

Although a quick read, Ms.Perkins packed a lot into the story and I was hooked from the first to the last chapter.

We are starting a new series with a bang, second chances, and hockey. I could not put the book down once I started it.

Neal “Rock” Roquemore has gotten himself in hot water, he knows better than running his mouth, and now he needs to fix it. Rock is the bad boy of hockey and has returned to his hometown NHL team but is complaining about the luxury of the new facility. Unfortunately, his comments are a PR nightmare, and his fans are causing problems for the architect. His assistant Diana has her hands full, but her sass keeps Rock in his lane.

Sarai grew up in the house next door to the Roquemore’s, and their families have been friends forever. She has followed in her father's construction footsteps as an architect.

Ten years ago, Rock and Sarai were an item, and that was the last time they saw each other until he needs to meet with the architect of the building he has publicly criticized. Can he fix her reputation as an architect? Can he fix his mistake from ten years ago?

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

4.5 Stars for The Love Chirp (Metros Hockey #1)
What a great start to a new hockey series, if this book is anything to go by Ms Perkins will certainly have a hit series on her hands and if you love hockey or sports romances you should one click this one.
This is Neal (Rock) Roquemore and Sarai Redlin’s second chance at love, being traded to a new hockey team in his hometown of Seattle is not what Rock wanted so to let off steam he insults the new hockey facilities what he doesn’t know is the architect and designer is his old school flame. Coming face to face with Sarai stirs up all sorts of memories and emotions and when his new team manager tells him you need to work with her and make this right he sees it as a way to turn the clock back….
Problem is Sarai is not willing to get her heart broken again so it’s going to take a lot of work to break through the wall she has built around herself.
I was hooked from the first couple of pages and there was no putting down until I had read the final line, I loved the characters, I loved their story but more importantly I felt like I was part of their journey. Great read and I’m excited for the next book in the series.

The Love Chirp by Crystal Perkins is a sweet, fun, second chance, hockey romance. Neal Roquemore is not happy that he was traded to a new hockey team based in his hometown Seattle. He comes face to face with his ex Sarai when she is the architect and interior designer of his team’s new practice facility. Years prior, Sarai and Neal left off on a bad note when he broke her heart. There’s a lot of history between the two and their chemistry is off the charts!

This book was a really fun, quick read. I love the way Neal and Sarai rekindled their relationship as well as how it progressed. The way their past was intertwined in this book made it a really interesting read. I really enjoyed this book and all the cute moments these characters had!

This was a good second chance romance. Neal "Rock" and Sarai have a long history together. Their families have been close since they were babies. They've grown up together. Rock and Sarai's brothers were best friends growing up.

What made Neal break up with her back in high school was hard for me to buy into. But at least we moved on quickly from all of that. They really do seem to compliment each other very well.

Overall this was a cute story about two people and families finding their way back to each other.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. And, I gave it longer than I usually do before deciding to give up.

But, I just didn't feel a connection with the characters and I never felt like I really cared about either of them, together or separate.

I am sure this was just me, but I do not recommend this title.

Neal "Rock" Roquemore just keeps getting himself into hot water. First he insults his new team's playing facility, then he discovers the lead architect is his ex. The ex whose heart he broke, badly, so long ago, and she's very, very unhappy to see him. Then PR comes up with a brilliant plan to have him work with Sarai to save face. It will either be the second chance they're not looking for, or the worst plan, ever.

This is a great beginning to a new hockey series. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes - if they're done well. Fortunately, the author does right by the trope, giving the leads great chemistry, a strong emotional connection, and an entertaining storyline.

“𝐼 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑑 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 ℎ𝑒𝑟, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼’𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑒𝑡 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑠ℎ𝑒’𝑠 𝑔𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑒 𝑎 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑒𝑟.”

The story starts with Neal uttering a controversial statement about the new hockey practice facility only to find out that the architect who designed the facility is Sarai, the only woman he’s ever loved but walked away from, 10 years ago. This then brings the two of them to work together and compromise on the design and eventually confront what happened between them 10 years ago.

The Love Chirp is a second chance and sports romance that I easily devoured and enjoyed. Reading this book was such a nice escape from my stressful days. A balance mix of fun banters, sweet and sexy talks, and a bit of family drama.

I love the chemistry between the lead characters, Neal and Sarai despite 10 years being apart. It’s cute and adorable how protective Rock and Sarai’s brothers are towards her and how close their families are.

“𝐵𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝐼’𝑚 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑔𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑤𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑖𝑛 𝑚𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑠 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑎 𝑔𝑎𝑚𝑒, 𝑤𝑖𝑛 𝑜𝑟 𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑒.”

This is such a quick and delightfully fun read which I will recommend to those who love second chance and sports romance. The Love Chirp is the first book in the Metros Hockey series. Definitely looking forward and excited for the next book in the series! 😍😍😍

This second chance/sports romance book was pretty good. I enjoyed the main characters and their families. Rock and Sarai had been a thing for a lot of years--until he got a professional hockey contract. Then he turned around and walked off without a backwards glance her way. As if it wasn't enough to break her heart, now he's making derogatory comments about the new hockey facility she's designed for the team in their home town. The social media nightmare may totally destroy her career.

If Rock can help do damage control and get Sarai's career back on track, could he explain why he walked away from her and possibly convince her to give their love a second chance? He'll do anything to prove his love for her--starting with going back to the old habit of fixing her breakfast every morning, especially if she spends the night in his bed.

I loved the theme of a love that is meant to be that runs through most of the book. It was a very sweet romance with lots of steam to heat things up. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be looking for the next in the series.

Thanks to Grey's Promotions and Lady Boss Press for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

The Love Chirp is a delightful sports romance. This Crystal Perkins tale combines enemies to lovers and second chances.

Neil and Sarai's romance is great. The author does a great job taking them from enemies to lovers. And, holy hotness!

I definitely enjoy these two together. They have a long history, incredible chemistry, and a fabulous connection. It's easy to root for them.

I enjoy everything about this story. But the family aspect takes it up a notch. I can't resist big families who are close. I adore that these two grew up together and are still entwined despite not seeing one another for years. And damn, oh the ways they are entwined!

The writing is great. Written in alternating first person pov, it's an easy and enjoyable read. It's low angst, with a few obstacles in their way.

The Love Chirp is a great way to escape your life for a while. This Crystal Perkins romance is a totally feel good read. I love that this is a second chance at love and family.

I see good things ahead in this series! Sarai and Neal (or Rock) got off to a rough start here, but then their history started seeping through the cracks in the wall between them. And when the truth comes out for all to see, the fireworks really start. Rock (an apt nickname since his head may be full of them sometimes) had no clue who he was badmouthing or accidentally placing a target on for his fans, so imagine his surprise when it’s the one girl he wished he’d done everything differently with. And good for Sarai for not simply letting her hormones and sad, still broken heart lead the way when they meet up again! She proved that she was no doormat and wasn’t about to make it easy on him just because he pretends to make nice for a second or two. But is he really pretending? Is it all for show? Or does Neal still love Sarai just as much as she wishes she didn’t love him?

I especially enjoyed the lack of drama when the truth comes out. There is anger. And hurt. And a few outbursts by all when it’s all laid bare. But the absolutely surprising turn toward making things right without all the nonsense and noise made this such a great read to me. Every time I was afraid there would be something, it ended up being so far from what I expected that I had to know what would throw me for a loop next! And now, we have the foundation for a solid series and likely some seriously entertaining stories to go with it. I can’t wait to see what comes our way next!

Metros Hockey #1

Neal "Rock" Roquemore is a pro hockey player who has a bad boy reputation. He is traded to Seattle and is none too happy about it even though it's his hometown. The team is even getting a brand new practice facility that would make most happy but not Rock and he's very vocal about it. Turns out it was designed by Sarai Redlin, the only girl he's ever loved and walked away from 10 years ago thinking he was doing what was best. Now that Sarai has reached her professional dream as an architect she's not about to let him destroy that but his fans and the media aren't happy with her and it's creating lots of trouble.
Can they find a happy medium and work together? Will they find their way back to each other?

I really wanted to like this book but it kinda fell flat for me.
Sarai and Neal looked like they were going to be the best couple but the weird phone sex at the beginning of the book was weird.
These two knew each other from when they were young and this gas went south and that was Neil/Rock’s fault. They kinda still have feelings for each other. He throws himself into getting her back. The all of a sudden turn around that he wants her back is weird. There is not really a build up to the I want you back thing.
Could have been better in my book.

After reading the prequel I was excited to dive into the series and I was not disappointed. I love second chance romances and Sarai and Rock gave me what I needed. Their story is filled with hurt, guilt, passion, and love but it's not easy for them to get over what happened. I loved them having to work together to work our their professional lives and in turn, their personal ones. I can't wait for more from this author and the series.

Crystal Perkins is a new to me author. Neal and Sarai's story is pretty sweet and fun, filled with amazing side characters. However, their start at second chance was kind of weird. I mean, both of them wanted it and were ready for it. But there was no talk about things and they kind of immediately went into it.

I enjoyed it for the most part. I liked the side characters more I think. I can't wait for Diana and Seti's story.

Crystal Perkins has written a very fun and sexy love story of long lost love in The Love Chirp. Neal and Sarai have been in and out of love for a lifetime. The two have now found their passion in their careers, but will that passion get in the way of them finding love again? This is a great read and a fun sports romance about a hockey player and the girl he has loved all of his life.

DNF... boring!

I walked away from their sister on prom night, taking the prom queen with me.

I’ve fucked other women over the years and bought a meal or two for ones I didn’t mind talking to. Before I moved here, I’d even been in a steady fuck agreement for a few months with the same woman.

Very cute story of two people, Rock and Sarai, who were a couple since they were teens. Torn apart when one parent tell Rock something that makes him walk away from Sarai and hurt her badly. Their families were close since they were little. When they are thrown back together again, will they be able to get past the hurt he caused her? Read along and find out! 4 hockey stars for this one!

The Love Chirp is a cute second chance romance. I love the closeness of both Rock (Neal) and Sarai's families. Rock and Sarai will steal your heart as they reconnect after time apart. I love the connection between Rock and Sarai. You feel the history and the love between them. The bickering is so much fun. This is an amazing hockey romance filled with all those lovely family togetherness that you will love. Rock and Sarai are perfect together even as they work through all their past histories and come together. This new series is going to be amazing and I cannot wait for more.

What’s better than a hockey romance, a series filled with hockey romances of course. What a great start to a new series. Rock is a professional hockey player that loves the sport more than anything. When he opens his mouth and inserts his skate, he knows he needs to get himself out of this mess. Sarai is an architect and interior designer who has a issue with Rocks big mouth. When these two are forced to work together they have a lot to talk about. Turns out the two were once in love and it ended badly. The families are extremely close and have a lot of good and bad history. This was a great quick read with several different bombshell moments that were pure entertainment. The banter between the family members had me laughing out loud and cringing at the same time. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I received this book as an ARC & I will be as honest as possible. First of all, I would actually rate it 1.5 stars if I could. These are not the type of books I generally read so I started it with an open mind, perhaps discovering a new genre I might like. If this is any indication of this genre, I most definitely do not like it.
The writing style is very juvenile. It reads like a very young y/a novel, like young pre-teens just starting to read young adult fiction. I wonder if this book is perhaps self published as there are some errors that could have been corrected if proof read.
I won’t even bother talking about the story itself, I just want to mark this book as “read” and start reading another book to quickly get the memory of “The Love Chirp” out of my mind.

Bad boy hockey player Neal "Rock" Roquemore wasn't exactly happy to be back in his hometown of Seattle, but if he wanted to keep playing the game he loved, he had no choice but to do so for the league's newest expansion team, the Seattle Metros. He wasn't shy about sharing his displeasure with his teammates, but when a leaked video of Rock criticizing his new team's practice facility went viral, he found himself in a nightmare of bad press, forced to work with the facility's architect to save both of their careers. He was shocked to learn that the architect was none other than his former childhood sweetheart, Sarai Redlin. Could this be his chance to make up for the mistakes of the past and win back the only woman he'd ever loved?

There was a lot of complicated history between Sarai and Rock, not only related to their failed romance but involving the longstanding friendship between their families as well. I appreciated that many of the old misunderstandings were cleared up early in the story, and they both decided that they wanted to give their relationship another shot. It wasn't exactly smooth sailing as they continued to deal with family issues and backlash from the press, as well as rebuild the trust that was destroyed when Rock broke up with Sarai a decade earlier. However, they were super cute together and had tons of chemistry, and I loved Rock's efforts to protect Sarai from the negative media and public attention.

The book's secondary characters were a lot of fun and added a great deal of depth and humor to the story, especially Sarai's hockey-playing brothers and Rock's tiny but mighty personal assistant Diana. I hope to see all of them again in future stories.

Overall, I really enjoyed this charming sports romance and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance readers. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Second Chance and Friends to Lovers are two of my favorite tropes to read. Add in the NHL aspect, and it is almost a sure fire winner. I'm automatically going to read it, and there is a very good chance that I'm going to fall hook, line, and sinker for the story/characters/setting. That was the case with The Love Chirp. I loved that Neal was brought back home due to the league expansion. I loved that he was vocal about his likes and dislikes of the new arena. I loved how he and Sarai were brought back together. I absolutely loved how passionate Sarai is about her work, and how she's gone after her dreams. I enjoyed reading their backstories, and seeing how close their families are. I will say that I didn't fully understand why Sarai was getting the hate (and threats) that she was. That aspect was just a little unbelievable for me, and so that wasn't my favorite. Yes I can see how it brought the two back into each others lives, but it just seems like there could have been more drama/suspense/intrigue regarding it the arena and the threats Sarai was receiving. I really feel that the stadium design, and all the excess that was being put into the building, was pushed to the back of the story, and it was a forgotten plot line at times. It seemed as though the family/friends/neighbor storyline was getting more of the push. Which makes sense with the history they have. Especially when the storyline about the moms was being discussed. My heart was hurting for Rock and Sarai. Flash forward a bit, let's talk about the big dramatic moment! That I loved. Absolutely loved how it all played out. Yes, I was surprised for a moment, but it was the chance to see how these two would react and respond. And the grand gesture (if you will) that happened with it all, so good. Then with how it ended, just yes. Oh how I smiled.

When I dove into this book it was shortly after the NHL expansion draft and to my excitement the new team the Metro’s in this series is also an expansion team in Seattle. This is a second chance at love. Sarai and Rock (Neal) were neighbors growing up and were high school sweethearts until Rock left for the NHL. Now, back in Seattle after 10 years, he has turned Sarai’s life upside down, and not in a great way.
Rock was drafted to the newly expanded Seattle team much to his unhappiness. He was not certain that he wanted to return home to Seattle and most of it had to do with Sarai. Sarai moved on with her life after Rock left for the NHL and became a successful architect. But truthfully neither of them ever got over the other, even after 10 years of being apart.
I immediately was drawn to both of the characters and was so excited to see how Rock was going to win his way back into Sarai’s heart. There are a lot of dynamics at play in this book, mostly because Rock and Sarai’s lives are so intertwined. And there is still so much animosity between the pair, not to mention how her older brothers feel about Rock.
If you like a lot of angst in your books then this is definitely a book for you, there are a lot of twists and turns and potential roadblocks for the pair. There is a definite connection between Rock and Sarai and the banter between these two is amazing….along with the sexual tension and connection. At times I struggled to keep up with the events and characters. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

The blurb of this book is interesting and I am a sucker for second chance so I want to give it a try even if I have never read any books of the author before. Sarai and Rock was friends to lovers once then Rock left her and 10 years later they meet again under a circumstance. The story begins with an intriguing plot and makes me want to know why 2 persons who seem to attract and still love each other broke up in the first place. And I swoon over the way Rock protects Sarai from his fans. It is all good until I know the reason why Rock left her and they want to redeem their 10 years apart. The story after that has nothing intriguing just 2 persons reconcile and are in love so I don't know why I feel like I am struggled while I am reading it but I feel that way. Maybe because everything between Sarai and Rock seems to be too easy and smooth. Anyway, after I finished reading it, that feeling still lingers so I kind of lost my interest in the next book of the series even if a couple keeps bickering through the book and give me some enemies to lovers vibe. The book isn't that bad but I think it is not for me.

A nice start to this brand new hockey series. The Love Chirp is a 2nd chance romance featuring Neal and Sarai, they grow up together, and over the years friendship turned into love, and from the age of 14, they knew they had found their soul mate. However, as Neal's hockey career take's off, and their families are torn apart by betrayal, other peoples insecurities are enough for Neal to ruthlessly end his relationship with Sarai. I did enjoy the storyline, and getting to meet the other characters that I am sure will feature in further books. I did, however, feel in places the storyline was rushed.

Sarai hasn't seen Neal for over 10 years when the future she thought they were to have was suddenly pulled from under by Neal. But now, Neal has been traded back to Seattle and sparks fly from the start as the two are forced to work together after Neal's negative comments regarding a building that Sarai has designed.

Since Neal walked away from Sarai, he has become quite the player, both on and of the pitch, but he never forgot about his first and only love, maybe he can now right the wrongs of the past.
