Holy mother of toxicity. The hero was OTT to the max, and I was uncomfortably engrossed in this. The epilogue semi made it better for the HEA but damn, this was the epitome of a toxic relationship.
It would have been a 5* but the sex scenes weren't very good or cohesive.

Stalkers ain’t my bag, but I kept reading this one. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Maybe because he never did The Thing where he slinks around like a loser and jizzes on her stuff, like the creeps do in most stalker books. That’s where I tend to exit the bus. 👀😬 This guy is still creepy, though. I like a controlling OTT jealous/possessive H, so that aspect kept me reading. Stan had a toxic edge to him that was just about over my tolerance level, however.

I kept thinking that this was gonna be a surprise shifter romance because his eyes kept changing colors when he got worked up. But, alas, he’s just a mortal man. I’ve never seen someone’s eyes go from blue to brown to black just from popping a boner, but maybe I need to get out more. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The h didn’t make much sense to me. One minute she’s a shy virgin, and the next she’s dominating him. Not only is this not my thing, but it just didn’t fit either character.

All these things aside… I’d probably have rated this higher if there’d been a shade more steam. It’s short, but I expect a bit more kick in the erotica department with these novellas. There’s definitely sexy times, it just seemed a bit skimpy, considering the tone.

- no cheating or sharing
- no dubcon
- no OW drama

For those who are watching movies about psychopathic stalkers and have always wanted to see a happy ending for the stalker and the heroine!
The author wrote that this is the longest that she wrote, but for me it was very little! I wanted more details, especially how it all started. This novel is not enough for me, I want more Stanmore or men more like him !!!!. Obsessed is exactly what I always wanted when I watched movies about obsessed stalkers !!!

Trigger warning: obsessive stalking

Yes, it was a twisted romance with darkish stalking behaviour from the H. But in this book's defence all acts here were consensual, no dubcon. It played out as creepy stalking behaviour. When the stalker a.k.a the H was closing in and started to move in to become her roommate, things got heat up. .

The story was short and twisted. And I hate to admit it but I like to read books that was twisted once in a while. A what-if book. What if the villain was so twisted he looked like a H? Or what if both had a dark side and together they worked, just worked? In this case, both were just perverts. But nothing wrong with being perverts as long as they were perverted to each other. What am I talking about. Am starting to ramble. Better stop now.

Safe read-ish just weird and twisted mind
HEA, Epilogue
Overall score: 4 twisted bad-romance

I don't think I'll ever get the image of the H wearing a green tracksuit with a single thin gold chain out of my mind (don't forget about the leather shoes and the fact that his name was Stanson) 😭😭.

That aside this was just a lot of OTT (and toxic) fun. I'm really enjoying these novellas from EL- they're the perfect palate cleansers.

Depraved as it may be, I love stalker/obsession stories and this one definitely delivered. It was a quick, short read but I loved Amber's character and how she found her anchor through Stan.

Stan's level of obsession bordered on uncomfortable, but as we're in the comfort and safety of fiction, it was a delicious level of obsession. He's right up there with top stalker Hs, for me. This was my first time reading Ms. Lilac's works and I look forward to reading more from her.

I really enjoyed this and if you're looking for a good stalker romance, I definitely recommend giving this a go.

Meh. Stanmore was stalking Amber for months before he finally got an in. Stan was seriously OTT, possessive and oh so psycho. The guy was so yikes on many levels. She needed a roommate and was in doubt about her future as a cellist. Didn't enjoy this as much as I expected. It felt like the story needed more fleshing out. Wish I felt more connection with the characters. Amber's change from fearful to complete acceptance was baffling. After all the build up the sex scenes was bland and disappointing. Too bad. I had such hopes for this one.

Background:

Stan (30) saw Amber (22) in one of her concerts, she's a cellist like his mom. Then his obsession grew and grew each passing day. He stalked her for months (6, I think), wrote her letters, and sent her flowers at the end of her every show. He has been going out of his mind finding ways how he can get close to her without alarming and not coming off as threatening. Then one day Amber posted an Ad that she needed a roommate and he took this chance to carry out his plans of making her his.

I honestly don't know what to feel about this novella. Stan can be swoony yet also scary. The obsession of this guy is out of this world. He was so intense, jealous, possessive, a freaking stalker but I also know that he loves her so much and he couldn't imagine his world without her. He was so unhinged at times that I felt frightened for Amber's safety, in some aspect but never in physical. Stan would kill any guy who so much looks in Amber's direction. He's really got the "touch her and die" vibes going so well for him.

As for Amber, I think I get her confusion. All the reasons pointing out that she has to stay away from Stan, but she just couldn't. He has been with her supporting and uplifting her during those times she lost interest in music. He may be insanely obsessed with her, but he never wanted to harm her nor hurt her. Even though the people who cared for her kept telling him to drop him because there's something wrong with Stan, she refused to listen to them. Deep down she knows there's a darkness surrounding him yet she still finds herself staying with him. She loves it so much when he goes unhinged for her and when his obsession takes a whole dark path.

Amber's family is barely tolerating Stan and he does the same to them. There's also a part in the novella where Stan told Amber he doesn't want kids because he can't share her, but in the epilogue it was revealed that after all they decided to build their own family. He was still crazy obsessed and possessive with Amber, but at least his obsession isn't her only anymore. He feels the same tug of emotions for his son and I'm just hoping in my imagination when they decide to have another kid and she happens to be a daughter he won't go berserk with his obsession. 😂

I'm still thinking about this as 2 or 3 stars, but for now I'll settle for 3. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future 🤷‍♀️

Issues:
Was it just me or was the writing really tiring? Like it didn't flow that smoothly in my head while reading... you know what I mean? Like the sentences didn't have this smoothness to them... 🤔

Plus the Heroine was hmm... kinda stupid... Few eye rolls there...

Good things:
I love safe books with smitten and obessed heros and this one is perfect if you look for something like that.

Meh

I wanted to love this book more. I thought it was leading to a paranormal being becoming obsessed but that isn’t quite where it went. The love they have is acceptable just wish something else was there.

Amber needs a new roommate so she puts out an ad. Stanmore is the most promising person who applies, except that he’s male. But it’s no biggie, Amber thinks. Everything will be fine. And everything is fine, except that Stanmore has been obsessed with Amber for a long time. And now he has her right where he wants her…

I really like over-the-top, stalkerish possessive heroes. I did like that aspect of this novella, but the rest was just meh.

Amber seemed a bit bland and spoiled (rich, insecure, kinda nice), Stanmore just a run-of-the-mill tortured hero (criminal past, rich, bad childhood). Romance itself happens quite fast, only like a day and a half after Stanmore moves in.

Also sometimes Amber immediately jumped to conclusions or knew things that stopped any meaningful build-up from Stanmore’s secret obsession. Like she picks up on it as soon as she meets him based on ‘a look in his eyes’ or whatever. She constantly says things like that but never takes her own self seriously, which just makes it hard to read. I mean if she already knows he’s obsessed then… it just gets boring. Because she doesn’t quite acknowledge it, but always references it. So why does she act surprised when he does crazy things? Like girl, you already caught him looking through your stuff and it turned you on to think he was that interested in you. Stop playing.

I also didn’t like the name ‘Stanmore’. But that’s nitpicky.

Overall I’m not sure I would reread this, but I won’t be keeping it on my shelf for now.

but i liked it! i just wished like always that we had more chapters in this author books, to give the story's more depths even if they are novella's.

Obsessed is the story of Stanmore and Amber.

He’s a mason and she’s a cellist and they both live in a share house or she puts an ad for a person to share her house and he takes it because he’s been obsessed with her for the past six months since he saw her at one of her concerts. He hides his past because of who his parents were, his mom was a famous cellist and his father was loved her more than anything and they died in a car accident when he was 11. He was in and out of juvenile detention by the time he was 13 and he went through things no one should go threw. He robbed a bank at 20 for idk what reasons. But in a way he really loved her and was REALLY TERRITORIAL OF HER. Like not even her own brother Gautier could touch her without him getting mad. I hated Gina from the start like she’s so annoying and she has the audacity to be mean to Amber when she is so sweet towards her in return. I felt like at first their relationship was okay but in the middle point this man was getting toxic and you know lashing out at the thought of losing her. She loved him though through all that. The truth came out when she received a call from her brother and he told everything to her and she still loved him. Yes she was a little confused as to why he wouldn’t tell her anything for her past but she still forgave him because that’s what love is. You forgive and forget because mistakes do happen and relationships sometimes get rocky but they still loved each other. They have a son when he realises that he can share her and his name is Mason.

Solid 4/5, would’ve been a five but he was a little too toxic. But still loved this.

Although this appears to be a fairly new author, they are already on my short list of authors that I immediately read everything as soon as it’s published. So far I have love, love, LOVED EVERYTHING I’ve read. I guess this book is a bit longer than the rest but it’s still a super fast read and I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I love some serious over the top possessive stalker romance and this hit the spot. If borderline creepy obsessed stalking isn’t your thing, skip this one, but if it is, this is excellent! If I had to make a comparison to another author I’d say these read a lot like Jessa Kanes’ books who is at the top of my favorites list. There’s not much to improve on with this hot 🥵 story, but if I had to pick anything it would just be that he kept saying things like she would leave if she knew how obsessed he was or when he really let his walls down but I feel like I was waiting for him to tie her up or totally possess every part of her but I didn’t really feel like he ever was that way. Sex was hot but mostly average level steam. No teasing or edging or pushing her boundaries so she would never want to walk away from him, which I find from most over the top obsessed main characters. In the end, although he insisted he would NEVER share her, she still hung around her friend that was pretty mean to her (and he was ok with it, I guess?) and she became super famous (so he shares her with thousands of people every night in concert?). By the end they just seemed like a normal sweet couple.

Needs to be much longer..

Enjoyed your story, alot of detail but was shorter than this should be in my opinion. There was so much that happened so quickly! Brief touches of background for both...blinking eye reference to his profession..Mason? As in Carpenter? So he's on construction? Cool but more than a insinuation woulda been great.. Really liked the mutual intensity however it seemed underdeveloped somehow..the description was lovely...all I can say is...I WANT MORE PLEASE!!!

this is truly an OBSESSIVE book

Some dark romances have hints at abnormally obsessive behavior and it begins to fizzle and you realize the hero has a hard core crush but not obsessive (borderline mental and emotionally abusive behavior) but this one follows through with obsessive kink and hints of primal play all the way to the end. *I would recommend a trigger warning for victims of mental and emotional abuse as some of the themes could trigger

"There is nothing out of the ordinary about him. He has a normal job... Normal name."
his name is Stanmore Sadler
and am pretty sure amber has lost it.

"And she won’t, now that she has a guardian monster under her bed."
DUDE-

because the way that I love her is unconventional
its illegal but okay if you say so

okay if any toxic relationship is as intense as this, I see why people still read it

This is an extremely obsessed stalker who can do violent when his obsession does not eye on him.
A little bit horrific but turn out smoothly because nothing is wrong if you find your match.
I always love stalker romance, I can throw away my morality to read an extreme love story.
So, I do like this one!

Beware who you let in...

I like a good stalker romance, and a good roommate romance so I figured this was a great way to combine the two. I enjoyed it, but it seemed that he changed a little too quickly once the romance started that I don't believe she'd be truly addicted to him first. Maybe if they had been a little more intimate first before things blew up. It was a tad over the top.
