What an interesting turn of events. I'm truly intrigued with plot so very much that I finished this volume in one sitting; and that cliffhanger!!! give me volume 3 right now!!!
In this continuation most of the characters from the last volume, along with some newer faces, venture to another base to look into a new breed of Shojo. When they get there they run into another security officer from that area who has already encountered the new breed and is going after one that bit her and made her lose her arm. Agreeing to team up they discover that the new breed has wings along with some other shocking revelations. Not everything goes as planned though, and Chris ends up getting hurt which leads to Minami being so traumatized by the possibility of Chris’s death that he can barely function.
The plot is getting really good. After researching the new breed of Shojo, illuminating information gets revealed about them that has me eager to pick up the next volume. What a twist! We also learn more about Minami’s past that adds a whole other layer to the plot. For a story that leans on the darker side I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s just so much to speculate about!
Of course, once again Minami and Chris are my favorites. Minami wanting to die is still a main focus of his character, but it’s obvious he’s getting more interested in life now that he’s interacting with others. Chris is a big part of that. It’s clear that after the events of the last volume Minami has grown attached to Chris which is made more apparent due to his reaction of Chris getting grievously injured. I probably shouldn’t have loved seeing Minami become inconsolable because Chris gets hurt, but I did. I couldn’t help it though. It just goes to show how much Chris means to Minami that he’s affected so deeply. And don’t even get me started on Chris getting jealous of how easily Ogino and Minami get along. Their whole relationship makes my heart so warm and fuzzy.
I was worried going into this that a romance would bloom between Ogino and Minami, but luckily it didn’t. She felt more like a little sister to Minami. If there’s going to be any romance I’m sure it’ll be between Minami and Chris, but I’m also sure that the mangaka will probably chicken out and it’ll only ever be implied that they love each other.
Ogino was a nice addition to the crew. She fit into the team really well. I liked how capable she was which sometimes made her seem more mature than characters who are years older than her. Asagiri has also inserted himself into the team despite being in a different unit. I liked his relationship with Chris because they feel like the parents of the group with Asagiri being the dad and Chris being the mom. I’m loving the found family vibe.
The one character I don’t really like is Kawakami. I just don’t understand his purpose. Somehow after the events of the last volume he has inserted himself into the little group they’ve created, but I feel like he adds nothing to the story. Every time he popped up in this volume all I could think was, “Why?”. Hopefully he has a purpose later on because currently all of his page time seems like a waste.
This volume gives us some answers but leaves us with a lot more questions. I know I got spoiled only having to wait a week between the official translation of the first and second volume, but now it’s going to be torture having to wait over a month for the third volume after that cliffhanger!
2.5/5 only a 2.5 because of the Chris Miyaji stuff. Other than a total 2 out of 5. I'm struggling to care. The storyline is okay but it doesn't have any weight since I don't care about anyone. I'm confused on how put-together this last beacon of humanity is. They have enough say to have a research division and generla military but also apparently care little for their unit? Like the newly introduced armless girl was seemingly stranded for 3 days with no help or official word and she acted like this was normal. I'm really struggling to like any characters. Nanao is just weird. Chris is only alright. And the other characters do extremely little in the story. Chihaya does nothing really. Kawakami’s motivation gets more confusing and other than having a flashback does nothing, and the newly introduced girl Yui Tokimune, acts as a plot device to show that you can survive a bite if the site is cut off quickly enough and then does nothing. The story tries to create a few interesting twists but I care so little and everything feels like it has no stakes. The real highlight was Chris getting his leg cut off. It’s a brave choice but it still doesn't lack the emotional weight or punch it needs. Everyone comes off as so reserved in the series its hard for anything to have impact. But it does allow for more gay shit as we learn that you can get the Shojo disease through love or something (although the other plot twist weakens that one too) and just so happens Chris got the Shojo disease even tho the only person he’s gotten close to is Nanao (and not even that much tbh). It ends with a second twist which I found boring. The forgettable science guy who was introduced I guess found out that the Shojo disease hides as white blood cells and the government got mad at him for discovering the secret? Honestly, it was weirdly paced as I read this in two sittings and genuinely don’t think we knew he was looking at the disease prior to the last few pages and the reveal. And its weak. The government in a dystopia is hiding a secret? Woah. Shocker. Everyone just sulks, talks about nothing in particular, talks about how weird Nanao is and his suicidal ideation, and blah. The series feels blah.

[3.5/5] Engaging volume with a few issues fore e.g. including a rookie 15 yo and having her basically lead the operation at times is not realistic, the ‘romance’ has minimal build up, why would the base they went to investigate not have communicated about the amputation option. That being said, some interesting elements were added that keeps the story interesting.
This volume was kinda fast, but in general, I like the story. I think some major things are happening without much explanation or like, follow through? It's just 0 to 100 and then back to 0 and it feels like whiplash. I really do like Ryo's art though. Miyaji and Minami are pretty ✨️
