Hearts Consent #1

Implied Consent

Rate this book
Gray Jordan, former Chargers quarterback and franchise player, learned a lot of tough lessons throughout his career. However, the worst of all was that no amount of money and fame can protect your heart. After a very public scandal, he quietly walked away from the one thing he loved the football.

Skylar Addison is one of the best sports attorneys in the city, so when the firm she worked for “reallocated” her out of a job, she felt as if the rug had been snatched from up under her. Finding out that her ex had her terminated after she decided that she no longer wanted to be in a relationship, only made matters worse.

After a pity party at a local bar and grill, Skylar found herself falling for the type of man she swore she would never think twice about, because after years of cleaning up their careless mistakes, Skylar knew with certainty that pro-athletes and their philandering ways were a fast track to a broken heart.

Unfortunately, sometimes the universe has its own agenda and tests your resolve. There was no resisting Gray Jordan, and Skylar finds herself fighting a losing battle by trying to deny her heart. Gray has his hands full with a woman that proves to be his greatest challenge as of yet, but they both have to get out of their heads in order to prevent missing out on a good thing.

Skylar is blindsided when she’s “reallocated” out of her position at Langley and Associates after she breaks up with her boyfriend who also happens to be her boss. Due to the noncompete clause in her contract, Skylar is unable to work for another firm for an entire year and she’s unable to take her client roster with her. To say she’s having the worst day ever would be an understatement. Gray is just a simple man with simple needs. He just wants to run his restaurant, get his little sister prepared for her freshman year of college, and pull up on his FWB when the need arises. After a bad breakup five years ago that cost him his NFL career, Gray does his best to steer clear of all things drama. But, all bets are off when the shortie at the bar disrespects his most popular menu item. Gray said, “Aht! Aht! You betta put some respect on Gray’s Bar & Grill and the Gray Burger!” And, just like that, a simple disagreement sparks an unexpected love story. We love a MMC that falls first, and Gray had no problem tumbling headfirst for the sports attorney with the slick mouth. I loved how he pursued her with intention and how quickly his protective nature kicked in. Now, Skylar was a different story. Girlfriend straddled the fence damn near the entire time she and Gray agreed to date exclusively. But, in her defense, she was still a lil’ tender from her recent breakup and needed some convincing she wouldn’t have to rinse and repeat the same behavior she had to put up with from Conrad. I loved Implied Consent. It was sexy and funny with just the right amount of drama. I’m keeping my fingers crossed KC will eventually spin the block on this series and give us a book on Sailor. My good sis said she’s ready for her own HEA and I’m ready for her to find it.

I really enjoy the sort of enemies to lovers kind of vibe…Grey & Skylar had chemistry from the time the two met…I love how he wanted to look out for her almost immediately…This was a really cute story….Always love Winston narrating, the female narrator was new to me and I really enjoyed her…looking forward to more narration from her.

Skylar was stubborn as hell but I’m so glad that didn't stop Gray from pursuing her. The book opens with Skylar being fired from her previous job where her boss is now her ex-boyfriend. Mistake number 1 for Skylar. Mistake number 2 was trying to disrespect Gray’s food establishment lol. The cat and mouse between Gray and Skylar were fun! Him showing her a side of him that was different and vulnerable was beautiful. Gray's mess-up was not being upfront about his past and having Skylar walk into a situation where another woman had the upper hand! I'm glad Skylar stood her ground and Gray had to come correct. While Gray had to sort through his drama, Skylar's family drama was a lot! I’m so happy for her brother by the end of the book and I'm excited to read about him next! Overall I enjoyed this book and the narration by Christy Clark and Winston James was nice!

This amazing, laugh out loud story, hits the haters where it hurts the most. This book deserves 10 stars. Unfortunately, the spelling errors, the grammatical errors and the confusing words totally decimated the rating.

Skylar and Gray were perfect together and totally supported each other when their sleazy ex-lovers got busy causing trouble. Loved how Gray stepped to Skylar's backstabbing ex-boyfriend and demonstrated how a REAL man protects his woman! I also loved how Gray looked out for Jenna, his younger sister.

This is the type of story you want to read over and over but the lack of editing is a complete turn-off!

Getting Sloppy

Hey K.C not sure if you read these reviews but just in case you do, there were quite a few too many distracting wrong words, spelling, grammatical errors present in this book. As an avid fan of your work wanted to make you aware because those distractions take away from quality content.

Skylar x Gray

I'm a little conflicted leaving this review. Ok, this was a good story. It had family, a bit of drama, it had banter and laughter, and it had love; my favorite part 🥰🥰. It had one more thing I wasn’t expecting. One more thing I wasn't expecting to get so much of: Grammatical and spelling fůckiņg errors. Why were there so many errors? I was willing to overlook them, but there were a myriad of them. There were so many, it became distracting. I’ve experienced that with all of her books. The author’s bio says she’s an international best selling author and she was featured in Essence Magazine. So, I don’t understand those errors. It doesn’t make sense to me. I enjoy her stories, but those errors are turning me off. If I'm being too weird about this, someone kindly let me know, cause I don’t understand. But enough of that.
Skylar and Gray were extremely cute. They had a semi meet-cute and the chemistry was palpable right there and then. I really liked Gray. He wasn’t arrogant per say, just cocky. Like, he was quiet, but he was cocky. But, it worked for him. I think it made him sexy AF. His story saddened me a little, but he was managing pretty well. Then there’s Skyler. I loved her. She was a sweet soul. She was so hesitant before jumping into anything Gray, but he’s already stake his claim on her. She was timid, smart, and oh so loving. I truly loved her. I would’ve loved to have gotten closure on her and Langley Associate and Carson after all that happened, but oh well. She got her HEA. So I would recommend this book if you can power through those errors cause it was overall cute 😍

This one was fun. A new author for me and I made an intentional choice to read an author of color this month.
I really liked Skylar Addison for sense of independence and sassy mouth. She was trying to establish herself as a lawyer outside her father’s legal practice and name. She met her match with a self made man Jordan Gray. They gave as good as they got with banter, romance and eventually love. There was past hurt that made them hesitant and cautious but it was a great ride and a sexy one too.
I loved the sibling dynamics with Jenna Gray and Skylar Addison. I can’t wait until those ladies get their own book

I’m sitting here feeling so warm and happy inside. 😍 This story really touched my heart, and I found myself rooting for the characters throughout. The relationship between Grey and his sister was so beautiful, and I truly felt the bond between Skylar and her siblings. Auntie brought so much joy and laughter as well! I loved how everything came together, and I could really visualize the emotions and scenes. This was such a wonderful story, and I can’t help but look forward to the next installment!

I love grown people romance! Gray and Sky are drawn to each other purely based on physical attraction. They find that not only are they extremely sexually compatible but they also enjoy each other’s company. There are multiple complications and stumbling blocks but everyone behaves like an adult so they get through it. They subtly remind us that vulnerability and submission aren’t a problem when trust and respect have been earned. I enjoyed this couple!

Beautiful romance

This was an excellent storyline. I loved how Gray and Skylar met. I was cracking up at the hamburger scene. Sky definitely gave Gray a run for his money. This story was light on the drama and heavy on the romance and I enjoyed every bit of it.

3.5/5 I enjoyed this one and loved their meet cute. The heroine was a badass, and I loved their dynamic. I do think the sex talked a bigger talk than it delivered, and it was just a bit lackluster.

Pen game

Let me start off by saying this book was a nice change for me. I get so caught up in my thug drug dealing books. So to read this is different. I know Tj book is coming out next but I would like to see him boss up on his dad take the bar exam and go help his sisters, are start there own family business. But I'm glad he is starting to come back around cause family is important. I know you have a book coming for Sail she just keeps it real and she needs someone to match her fly and they don't have to make as much as her just bring something to the table is enough. Know Skyler and Grey they needs twins to keep him busy before he goes crazy because Jenna aka Jenny lol is living her best life. I would like to see her in Journalism and enjoying her fruits of her labor.

3.5⭐️ Implied Consent was one that I really enjoyed!

Gray is a former football player who was caught up in a scandal with his last relationship. Skylar is an attorney who doesn’t date celebs or athletes because she knows first hand the kind of mess they get involved in. But somehow, she can’t deny Gray…

Sparks were flying, consent was given, the banter was on point, and drama was flowing!!

I also loved both characters’ backstories and their love for family!!

The narration was great! As much as I love Jakobi Diem, Winston James may have taken that number one spot because his voice is husky and as smooth as honey!

Sky and Gray love story was yummy.

Skylar is an overthinker, a great lawyer and a family girl. She wants the best for all of her family: She was mistreated and her jerk of an ex thought he would get the upper hand. I related to Skylar a lot.

Gray was also family oriented and about his sister. You saw the love all in their relationship but she needed female attention other than her aunt. Gray ran his business and minded his business. I love their relationship. I hope we get to see a little more in the next book since she was so close to TJ.

*Audiobook Verison*
The audiobook is amazing, I love its from both Skylar and Gray's POV.
This story is everything I needed in urban fiction. I enjoyed both MC. The development throughout the story is also really good. Skyla is one of the best sports attorneys in the city. Gray is a former Chargers quarterback and franchise player, learned a lot of tough lessons throughout his career.

This was a really good book. Idk why it did drag out a bit but I liked it. After they started their little relationship I didn’t hear anything else about that little restaurant until the end lmao. Conrad was a jackass and really weird.

I am plowing through the catalogue of K C Mills and I’m not ashamed of it. Her books are addictive and impossible to let go of. Implied Consent is a good read. I will admit that it started out slow but it gives “Grown & Sexy” vibes. Gray and Skylar are both recovering from personal hits and aren’t looking for relationships. One hilarious situation at Gray’s establishment starts their journey to forever. Surprisingly, it didn’t take Gray long to accept his feelings for Skylar. I love his protective nature and his ability to persevere through adversity. Skylar on the other hand, put me THROUGH IT! Even when they decide to date exclusively, she still has one foot outside the door. Oh this woman frustrated me almost every page. Regardless of Skylar’s antics, I still rooted for this couple every step of the way. I love how both characters value and respect family in this book. I cannot wait to see more of Sylar’s sister Sailor. She is a hot mess and needs to be protected Lol! The author focused on some heavy hitting topics in this story. I love the way she handled mental health and family expectations. It was done well. Overall, this book didn’t disappoint. There are lots of grammatical errors that became annoying but I enjoyed this book. I look forward to TJ’s redemption story in the near future

Absolutely loved it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

KC is the mfn goat periodttt. It’s her ability to take you on a journey with the characters for me. I always feel like I’m there and always overly love the male characters. Whew from Fray to East to Gray 😍 and those before and in between like seriously who wouldn’t want an alpha male like these that aren’t afraid to show love and share emotions. Gray was everythannnggggg and I so loved him and Skylar together. They both deserved their happily ever after and I’m so glad they’re having a baby🥰I can’t wait for TJ’s story because mental health is real and often gets swept under the rug in black families so I’m definitely looking forward to that and also because I just know we’re gonna get a snippet on what’s been going on with Gray and Skylar and the baby. Also Sailor too she was hilarious and I loved the relationship the sisters had. I’m such a sucker for love so this was absolutely perfect in my eyes. Amazing job queen 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾‼️‼️‼️

This was my first K.C. Mills book and I really enjoyed Skylar and Gray's love story. Black romance and healthy love in books and the media is not represented enough.

Skylar was a successful sports attorney and Gray was a fine successful business owner and ex-football player. The love Gray had for his little sister Jenna gave me all the feels. There is something about a self assured confident black man that gets me every time.

Gray was a man's man and fully aware of how black women have to always be strong. Gray showed Skylar that she didn't have to carry the weight of the world because he was there to be her protector and allowed her to be soft for once.

However, there were a lot of grammatical errors as another reviewer stated. This was a good book but it could have been great with better editing. K.C. Mills definitely has a new fan.

Gray Jordan & Skylar Addison ❤️‍🔥

KC Mills does not and did not disappoint with this man! Her male leads are the types that leave you singing " 🎶 What a man, what a man, What a man, What a mighty good man"!! Cause, Honey!

Skylar was not trying to give that man, no play at all to the point of comedy. She was about her business and trying to get her life and firm together.

It was refreshing to see that even though her professional & romantic life were in shambles. She wasn't sitting around like Cinderella, waiting on a man to come and rescue her.

Gosh, I loved how Gray loved up on her!!

📚Genre: urban romance
🎭Trope: meet-cute
🔥Spice Level: 🔥🔥

I said what I said and as always: don't take my word for it. Read the book, form your own opinions, and support your authors! 🫶🏿📖👏🏾

The writing wasn't as good on this one. There's instalove and then there is "love" that's so fast it doesn't even make logical sense. Like we met at a gas station and by the time I had a full tank, we are now exclusive.

Winston James' beautiful voice couldn't even save this one.

Also, as a lawyer, they whole non-compete plot line was complete bullshit, and so poorly done that I felt like even non-lawyers should have been scratching their heads. Skylar, for a supposed bad ass lawyer, was just too damn soft. Crying behind BS. Jealous anytime another female sounding name is mentioned. Letting her ex talk to her crazy 🙄

This is my second K.C. Mills book. I really enjoyed this one - I think even more than the first one I read. I’m going to definitely read the next story in the series.

The good: Gray and Skyler’s chemistry was top notch. Loved every moment of it.

Why a 4? There were a couple of moments where I think some additional editing would have helped. For instance, Jenna comes home from college. It felt like filler. Same with the dad just popping up on Gray. Fuller moments.

But overall a good read and I’m definitely a new fan.

Very light bondage play.

Skylar and Gray

I absolutely loved this one! KCM killed it! The story is woven together well and both Skylar and Gray are complicated people with complicated pasts. They make it work. With all the moving pieces, their story was beautiful. I still wanna beat Shelby down a little bit…and Conrad….THAT JOKER…I wanna hear more about him because I need to see him turn to ash….but you know who else I wanna hear more about? Jenna….I want her to get an HEA too! Anyway…on to the next!

Such a cute strangers to lovers story. Skylar woke up and find herself fired from her job after she broke up with her boss. And then meets Gray the owner of the restaurant bar she entered. The banter between the two is cute. They both had exes that were trash which made moving on a slight struggle but they worked through it.
I’m looking forward to continuing the series to learn more about TJ and Sailor.

This was really good. I rarely like reading about lawyers. It’s too much like work but this story was worth it. Gray and Sky seemed perfect for each other with their past experiences and present skill abilities!

I love her books including this one. However, I am not sure if they accidentally put out the first draft but this book clearly did not have a proofreader before it was put out. So many errors. Pray she sees this and re-release a better version.
