Okay, so the main story is shaping up to be Legoshi's relationship with his grandfather and his grandfather's former partner, the current BEASTAR, a sort of vigilante superhero in search of a sidekick. Hmmmm. I wonder where he might find one?

The majority of the book is filled with nice character development moments and a fleshing out of the residents of the apartment building where Legoshi now lives.

Seems like the scene is all set for some more action and adventure.

Gosha and Yahya’s backstory is being tied into the plot. Segwan becomes a bff at the beast apartments. These cliffhangers are too fun

After his grandfather Gosha’s surprise visit and we learn more of his past with horse beastar Yahya, Legoshi settles well into his new life with a new job and even makes a friend in spotted seal Sagwan. Later after getting into a scuffle with illegal drug sellers, Legoshi gets a new view on herbivores after he opens up to his neighbors and also gets a mysterious surprise. A (100%/Outstanding)

Another solid installment in the series! I continue to enjoy each volume. I loved getting to know Legoshi's background a bit more, and it makes more sense now why Legoshi is the kind of wolf he is. We see some characters that we haven't seen for a while, and I honestly love the new character that will be playing a bigger part here soon. He has been hinted at in the last couple of volumes.

Thank you to NetGalley, VIZ Media, and Paru Itagaki for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Legoshi dropped out of his school and now lives on his own, making a living working at a ramen bar while learning how to live life as a registered meat offender. Legoshi lives in an apartment complex that isn't exactly in the best of neighborhoods, and being a registered meat offender, is stereotyped often and thought to possibly be at a higher risk of a new drug going around affecting carnivores. BB is made of the blood and bones of herbivores and drives a carnivore's desire for meat. At least with Legoshi, the authorities find themselves in a place of surprise.

We also get a bit of back and forth between Legoshi and his grandfather, showing a little bit more of the history there, as well as his grandfather's connection to the current BEASTAR. What will the BEASTAR think of Legoshi?

And there is an interesting aspect involving marine animals in this volume, something that has not yet been explored in previous volumes.

Another fine installment, and auto-buy, and I can't wait for the next one! A worthwhile series for anyone interested in a truly intriguing world and story.

This was probably my favorite of the volumes this far. It delved into the personal lives of the characters more and even expanded the world again. If you were wondering whether or not this world had aquatic life and how they fit into all this, this volume finally starts to bring that into view. It’s so amazing to me how this manga keeps growing bigger and bigger without losing the depth of its satirical scope. The evolving discourse on racism and xenophobia isn’t something I’m used to seeing in this part of the comics industry and is really refreshing. I’m reminded of the interview Itagaki gave where she said that the publishers agreed to pick up the series if Itagaki agreed to make it more focused on engaging the teen boy demographic, and was musing one how she juggles that agreement with staying true to her original story. I think you see that a lot in this volume, Itagaki focusing on the introspective thoughts of the teens, and the adults around them, that motivate the actions they take and also cause them to seriously question how they participate in their society in ways that either support it or work to change it. I think this volume really reflects the diligence that Itagaki and her assistants put into this series.

Listen, this series is my guilty pleasure. It’s just so goddamn weird and yet probably the most compelling and emotionally invested I’ve been in a series in ages.

Legoshi is adjusting to his new “adult” life since he’s stuck in a run-down apartment following his criminal record. This is mostly a volume that introduces new characters, all of which I love so far. Legoshi has been working at a noodle shop since he was kicked out of school, and his boss sends him to the sea to deliver some noodles for sea creatures in the community. Here he meets Sagwan, a spotted seal, and I can tell you right now I would die for him. Sagwan teaches Legoshi a bit about the life of sea creatures and how they fit into the Beastars world and touches on religion for the first time because sea creatures believe in reincarnation. It’s quite beautiful and Sagwan will be an excellent mentor or guide figure for Legoshi in the future.

We also get more snippets of some of my personal favorite characters, including a conversation between Gosha, Legoshi’s grandfather, and his ex-partner/best friend Yahya, the current Beastar. Yahya is a freaking god; I love every time he shows up. The art for his character RULES and he is so fascinating to read about. We also get to see my one true favorite, Louis, return to see Legoshi after he busted up a crime ring. In my opinion, Louis is THE BEST character in the series. I don’t care much for Haru and Legoshi as a romantic pairing, I just want more Louis and Legoshi friendship moments.

This volume walked the line between giving us enough of the older characters to keep us interested while introducing a slew of new characters within Legoshi’s apartment complex. It rules. I want to get to know all the new characters and their experiences within this world. This volume also goes into a lot more of the racism and xenophobia aspects of the series, which I love that the author inserts and doesn’t shy from. The world-building is so brilliant I think I will start buying this series now rather than just getting it from my library.

I like how Legoshi is discovering more about the real world and its beasts. I never thought about aquatic beasts being out there and having their own lives, especially fish! Sagwan is a fun new character, it’s nice to see Legoshi meet new beasts like him.

Poor Haru though, the one time she shows up in the volume and it’s her catching Legoshi talking with Seven. Probably thinks he’s moved onto a new herbivore girl now.

Really loved the Louis and Legoshi reunion! It’s nice to see them be proper friends now after all this time. Leave it to Louis to get Legoshi to realize that he’s obsessed with herbivores lol. I hope we get more scenes of the two of them together in the future.

I’m very invested in Gosha and Yahya’s relationship with each other. Yahya seems to have a grudge against Gosha, meanwhile Gosha still seems to care about Yahya. After the end of this volume I’m curious as to if Yahya will be a villain or a mentor for Legoshi, does Yahya want Legoshi to be his co-Beastar that Gosha never was? Or does he want to hurt Legoshi since he’s a carnivore and a meat offender?

I wasn't very sure about this one at the beginning, with that short and unsatisfactory Haru's appearance, and too much focus on Goshu and Yahya's feud... but I was glad to see Louis back and the tender side of Legoshi's love of herbivores fully exposed.

We also get some more glimpses into the Beastars' world, with the introduction of the marine creatures and some of Legoshi's neighbors.

This series sure is changing and evolving, and though I'm not sure that I liked it now better than I did at the beginning, with all the high school drama, it certainly keeps being interesting, entertaining and more profound that one can imagine.

L’introduzione di nuovi personaggi ha portato al manga quella ventata di aria fresca di cui aveva bisogno. A volte prevale il nonsense, come all’inizio del volume, ma mai quanto in passato
