Both men had pretty much given up on finding their forever, but fate was just waiting for the right time.
Charlie moves to small-town Briarton with plans to live his quiet life as a writer. He’s resigned himself to being alone and isn’t expecting anything different from his new home. But a coffee mix-up brings him face-to-face with a man Charlie had decided didn’t really exist.
Nixon is grateful for a new job in a new town. He’s ready to leave the past in the past and settle down. He’s not actively looking for a relationship—that’s never worked out for him before—but he can’t deny the instant connection he has with his newest patient’s nephew.
Is it too late for Charlie and Nix to find their happily ever after? Or will they accept fate’s gift and allow themselves a love they thought they’d never find?
**Perfect Timing is a steamy, M/M romance with an introverted, demisexual writer and a big, soft teddy bear of a nurse trying to navigate a love they’ve always dreamed of but most definitely weren’t expecting.**
Escape into addictive, sexy, emotional queer M/M romance. A.D. Ellis is an Indiana girl, born and raised. She spends much of her time in central Indiana as an instructional coach/teacher in the inner city of Indianapolis, being a mom to two amazing teens, and wondering how she and her husband of over two decades haven't driven each other insane yet. A lot of her time is also devoted to phone call avoidance and her hatred of cooking. She loves chocolate, hot tea, sweet wine with friends, pizza, and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework. Who would pick cleaning the house over a nap or a good book? She uses any extra time to increase her fluency in sarcasm. A.D. uses she/they pronouns. Perfect paradise living in a small town where you can discover your true mate, great family of friends, happy cats, good food, great coffee, good housing, wonderful walks, and even non-milk cows.
There are always some things being stirred up or gentle teasing to keep life interesting, but the writer can edit out the bad stuff to keep you smiling. The tales that the cats could tail are worth the petting and hugging. Just watch where you step.
Perfect Timing is the second book in A Small Town Briarton romance by A.D. Ellis. This is the story of Charlie and Nix. Their story was sweet, sexy, hot, full of feels and very well written. I loved it. This book can be read as a standalone but the characters from the first book come around often.
I was given a free arc copy from the author for review.
This can be read as a standalone but there are many names dropped from the book Perfect blend. There is no need to read it first and u can get by without knowing their back stories but they are also great characters and reading this will make u want to read their story as well so it would prob make more sense to read them in person if u choose to. I have not read that book yet but I'm definitely going to now.
Charlie is a quiet, shy, Introvert writer. He would love a relationship but is Demi and prefers not to date random people and has given up finding the one. He was disowned by his family but in the end inherited everything from them with the stipulation he care for his uncle who is a naughty humorous handful.
Nixon is a home care nurse much to his high class, conservative, political family's disapproval. He also wants a relationship but hadn't had luck with people taking one look at his big bear appearance and having expectations of him being all stereotypical toppy when he is a softy at heart. He happens to be Charlie's uncles new nurse and their new neighbor.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a quick, sweet, fun and steamy read with some humor thrown in. It was quick paced and the plot stayed interesting the whole way through and this was definitely a book I couldn't put down. I loved both of the MCs and the uncle was hilariously naughty. Nix and Charlie had great chemistry from the start and were the perfect couple balancing each other out. There is very minor angst and it is quite steamy in the second half. I liked that it built up to that but then once it got to that point they were all in.
The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is cause for me this was OTT Hallmark level cutesiness and instalove and was a bit much at times for my liking. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes super sweet romance with all that soul mates and instant sparks kind of stuff.
3.5 Stars - This book is so sweet it will rot your teeth. Charlie and Nix are both new in Briarton. Nix is working as a home health nurse, and Charlie is continuing his writing career while caring for his uncle, Otto. The two men meet when they order the same coffee at the local coffee shop and immediately hit it off. Charlie has never made friends easily, and is amazed at how much he enjoys spending time with Nix. Both men are at the point in their life where they want to truly get to know their partner and develop a true relationship.
I found Charlie completely adorable. He’s got some anxiety, he’s totally inexperienced, and his reactions, especially to Nix, made me giggle. The book mentions Charlie’s father had issues with his quirks several times, but I kept wondering what these supposed quirks were. Nix is definitely a caregiver, but I didn’t feel a strong connection to him like I did with Charlie. Not sure if that’s just my personality, or if we didn’t get to see as much of Nix.
Their relationship develops pretty quick, which I found a bit odd for a demi character. I guess I was expecting more of a slow burn and this came off a bit like instalove. There was some fun banter between the characters, but also a lot of repetitive, serious, and frankly unrealistic, conversations. I found myself skipping over some of the dialogue in several places.
Overall this was a very quick, sweet read. It had a little outside angst, but the characters were pretty happy throughout the entire book and of course got their HEA.
(I received a free ARC of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.)
These two just melted my heart in the best way After the death of his father that really took no interest in Charlie he moved to Briarton with his uncle (who is a scream he should have his own book) Charlie is a writer and he just wants to live a quiet life. He struggled with his sexuality for a long time until he found out what he was. No one had really interested him but that was until he met Nixon. Nixon just wanted to slow down he had a very active family in the world of politics and he wanted none of it. And they really didn’t except him being gay you know they said the nice comments but deep down he knew so he was happy just to move away to Briarton and work with the local doctor as his home visit Nurse that would go out to see his patient. When he bumped into Charlie at the café there is an instant Attraction but he can tell that he will need to go really slow with Charlie so he hopes that they can become friends And that will lead to so much more. Oh my gosh the story is just Uber cute I want to know these two men because they are exceptional people who will help anyone around them. I understood the struggles of Charlie around people and thought that Nixon just bought him out of his shell so well. And the uncle oh my Dear! do not even get me started with the uncle he is just brilliant I don’t know if I’d wanted him to be my uncle because he would just take joy in embarrassing me all day but oh dear he’s just lush. This series just keeps getting better and better a really enjoyable book and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

This is the second book in the small town Briarton Romance series. It is not essential to have read the first book in order to fully enjoy this book. This is the story of Charlie and Nixon. Charlie is a writer who has moved to Briarton to enjoy the small town feel and look after his uncle Otto. Nixon is a home nurse who has just moved to Briarton to start his job. Charlie is shy, socially awkward and demi sexual. He has trouble meeting new people let alone looking for a relationship. Nixon is a big bear of a gay man who is constantly pigeonholed into roles that don't reflect who he truly is. The two meet over a misunderstanding over a coffee. It turns out that Nixon is Charlie's uncle Otto's new visiting nurse. On top of that they are backyard neighbors. Good thing that they get along from the first or life could have been very awkward. I really liked that the men were in their 40's and finding their special person. They already had time to become the people they were meant to be by the time they meet. Due to Charlie's demi sexuality, he is having a problem dealing with Nixon. Being the smart guy he is, Nixon offers friendship to Charlie first. He explains that he hopes it will grow into more but he is happy being Charlie's friend first. The two of them have wonderful chemistry. I enjoyed this story.

This was a sweet M/M middle age romance. The characters were realistic, showing their flaws, vulnerabilities and dreams. The story had all the feels. Highly recommend.
Charlie Hillion is a writer and author. He suffers from extreme social anxiety and depression. His father did not emotionally support him growing up and they were estranged for two decades. He and his irreverent uncle Otto live on the same property and he helps care for him. Otto has always supported him. They are new to the small town of Briarton.
Nixon Riley is a geriatric home health care nurse. He is a soft spoken, blonde bear of a man. His family did not support him being gay and pressured him to confirm to their career expectations for him. He recently moved into the house behind Charlie. He is hired to care for Otto.
They meet at the local coffee shop and hit it off. Nixon is warned to take it slow with Charlie and he does. They are both looking for a committed relationship but Charlie needs to know someone very well before he gets involved with them. Charlie also has little to no sexual experience, Nixon has experience but has never been in a long term relationship. Their relationship grows over time and they fall in love.

When Charlie Hillion’s father died, having never provided emotional support to Charlie growing up, Charlie moved with his Uncle Otto to Briarton. Charlie is an author who wants to enjoy a quiet life now and take care of his eccentric uncle.
Nixon Riley likewise lacked the support of his family. He moved to Briarton and got a job as a home-visit nurse with the local doctor. As Nix and Charlie meet at the café and bond over the confusion of a coffee mix-up -- where both of them ordered a unique mix of house roast, three creams, three sugars, one pump of vanilla -- the two seemed to like each other from the start. But Charlie is quiet and shy, so Justin’s advice to work on their friendship first was a good idea. Nix ends up as Charlie’s neighbor and Otto is assigned as his patient. Nix and Charlie are a perfect combination, Nix being kind and gentle and mixing right in to make people comfortable. You have to love a man who isn’t afraid to sit on the floor and play with a neighbor’s two cats!
The characters are really likable in this story. I think both of them are easy to love because of their gentle natures. Will the two of them decide to try a relationship? Or did Fate decide that for them back at their first meeting at the coffee shop?
Perfect Timing was such a sweet and fun book! The MC's, Charlie and Nix are both 45 years old and connected immediately over their unique coffee order. Both had given up on finding the perfect someone - Charlie because he was an introverted demi-sexual who had never had a strong romantic connection to another person and Nix because the guys he went out with used him for sex and didn't want to get to know him.
Charlie and Nix had so much in common and both complimented each other perfectly. Nix was so patient and respectful of Charlie and Charlie was exactly what Nix needed in his life. I appreciated the lack of drama in their relationship and liked that they communicated when they had a problem.
The supporting characters helped make this a great story. Charlie's Uncle Otto made me laugh out loud and I loved seeing Morgan and Justin (and Harley and Jo Ellen) from The Perfect Blend. I highly recommend reading The Perfect Blend first. Perfect Timing could be read as a stand alone book, but was more enjoyable after reading The Perfect Blend.
This second book in the series was a good one. I'm beginning to love same age romances especially when the guys are older. Less drama...no game playing. Charlie and Nix hit it off immediately. They had sooooo much in common right down to same type of pets....amazing. Both were coming to the friendship/relationship wanting the same thing...someone to connect with and love. Charlie being demisexual was explored and it was oh so important that Nix understood and was on board. Nix knew this was his person and was willing to wait for Charlie...so sweet. Everybody was cheering them on. So it was nice to see the characters from the previous book in the story...it's almost like a continuation but not really...just a new couple. Oh and I can't forget Otto...he was a hoot...he's an uncle everybody would want and love. Briarton is a special place and I hope there are more stories/romances coming from there soon.

I love Nix and Charlie together. Charlie shows a side to people that we never get to see. I love that Charlie knows who he is and finally has learned to accept what he needs to feel whole. He shows the battles that many people go through but are not willing to walk about because they think that no one will understand. Nix is such a easy going and social person but I love that there is a side to him that we people would never see if they did not get to know him. Each of them had to overcome people in their lives expecting them to be someone other than they truly are. I love that they each found the strength to be who they are and not allow themselves to just confirm to who others wanted them to be. Together they make a great couple because their personalities seem to even one another out while their history gives them a understanding of each other. It is almost truly like a ying and yang theory when you look at their relationship.
Charlie moves to Briarton to write. He has deadlines to meet and the small town is the perfect place for peace and quiet. Charlie is single and not looking to mingle. He is caring for his elderly uncle and writing and is content with that.
Nixon just bought a house in Briarton. He is working as a nurse for the local Dr's office. Just like Charlie, he's not exactly looking for a relationship.
You know the saying- The One for you will show up when you least expect it? Well let's just say both of these men are blindsided by the instant connection they feel for one another and they aren't sure how to deal with this revelation.
I read the first book in this series, thinking it was a standalone. I will just say I'm so happy it wasn't. I love the little town of Briarton and these 2 men were great additions. And don't even get me started on Charlie's Uncle Otto. That man and his meddling added the perfect amount of humor to the story.
This is an interesting and romantic story, but it's filled with too much info that is not needed for the storyline, and it's repetitive. When two 45 year old men meet in the small town they just moved to, there's an attraction and an ease between them. Charlie is full anxiety, and shy to boot, and he is still a virgin because of it. Nix is a man who is tired of one night stands, he wants to find someone to settle down with. They hit it off immediately and both want more, but Charlie's issues hold him back. But Nix can live with going slow. I enjoyed the general storyline, and I loved Nix and Otto, but Charlie comes off as immature and flaky. So it's worth reading if you can ignore the repetitiveness and unnecessary words. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
A good start as Charlie's uncle tells it like it is with not holes bard speech about being single. The story gets going and it's a great start when they meet at the coffee shop. A bundle of connections or coincidences they get to know each other. Oh god these guys are funny as they had me in stitches. Charlie and Otto has a dream but doesn't think it'd happen as well as fast as does. A great story to read for Charlie and Nixon to finally find love. I'm not a fan of coincidences in books which is why I didnt give a 5. Sexy scenes, humor and demisexual mc a lot more in this one. A standalone story as the second book in this series.
Charlie 45 yrs was a writer caring for his uncle in a new town for them both. Otto needed a health nurse which he hadn't met yet. Nixon yah you guessed it was the nurse and wanted to find love.
4 ¼ Stars Perfect Timing is easy to read with very little angst. I needed that. Charlie and Nix are appealing characters with good chemistry, and the road to their HEA was smooth and simple. I knew they would get together, but the sweetness getting there was lovely to see. I also like that they are not twenty-somethings. I enjoy those books, but I like seeing older couples get together too. The sexy times are well done, and their HEA is satisfying and believable. The secondary characters are well placed and support the storyline. Uncle Otto is a hoot and kept things interesting. I also enjoyed seeing the guys from the first book in this series, and I like the support the town gives its citizens. I look forward to more from this author.
Resigned to being alone, Charlie moves to small-town Briarton with plans to live his quiet life as a writer. But a coffee mi x-up brings him face-to-face with Nixon. Nixon is grateful for a new job in a new town. He’s ready to leave the past behind and settle down. He’s not actively looking but he can’t deny the instant connection he has with his newest patient’s nephew Charlie.
I really enjoyed this story with the two men who had an instant connection and then attraction (cheered on by the older residents around them). I loved that Charlie was demisexual and that Nix was prepared to wait for him to take the next step in their relationship. This was well written and it was easy to understand and feel the emotions of them both. This is an MM story with mature content.
This is such a sweet and lighthearted read. It has two wonderfully mature characters who have been unlikely in finding love. Being both introverted and demisexual, Charlie hasn’t ever connected strongly with anyone romantically. And Nix has never had anything good and lasting. These two are meant to find each other, and I loved their meet-cute over their unique coffee order. It really was perfect timing! They are supportive and so loving, complementing one another extremely well. There is just something about characters who have resigned themselves to being alone finding love that makes my heart all warm and happy.
I absolutely loved Perfect Timing. I love stories with men that are older and have a bit of life on them. These men were so enjoyable to read. I really felt like I was there like a fly on the wall, watching them fall in love (I fell in love with them too). These two were so hot and sweet and oh so sexy. I read this book up and will definitely be on my re-read list. Charlie’s uncle was awesome. I loved reading more about Justin and Morgan and all the people in Briarton. I totally recommend this book and the series and I can’t wait to read the next book.
I loved this story. It really drew me in from the first few sentences of the book. The story in general was very well written and just so great. Charlie and Nix both had different reasons for moving to Briarton. However, their meeting was most serendipitous. Their spark was immediate and only grows into some steamy times. Otto adds some comedy to the story too - he is a fiesty old man.
Overall, this is a great duo with great characters that make you just want to pick up and move to Briarton too!
Neither Charlie or Nix were not expecting at the point where they meet to meet someone. They are both good guys but neither has found it yet and living in Briarton did not seem like it was going to present Charlie with anything other than a good place to write. When he and Nix meet the chemistry is instant and their story was nicely told. They truly meet at the perfect time for each of them and brought acceptance, community and good things to one another's lives. Lovely low angst love story.

Large roast, three creams, three sugars and one pump of vanilla. Charlie's Dad, Orson recently passed and left the care of his younger brother, 80yo Otto to Charlie. Charlie, thought he was considered weird. But, he was just passionate about knowing who he was and who his lover/partner was. He was demisexual. Uncle Otto was more outgoing than Charlie and they got along well. Charlie, wanted to find love, but he struggled to intitiate conversations. Nixon, is new to town. He excaped a conservative homophobic family who wanted him to hide and stifle his preferences. Nix, was finally free! He is a home healthcare nurse and absolutely fulfilled and enjoying his life. When Charlie and Nix meet, there is an overflow of instant like. Will they get along with Uncle Otto being Nix's client? Can Charlie, let go enough to let Nix in? Great story. Nix and Charlie are absolutely likeable. Can Nix fill the holes in Charlie's life? Enjoyable read. Their journey is delightful and heart warming. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. Nice cover art!
Let me start by saying I love this authors books and this was no different. This story about two men, both aged 45, that meet by accident while reaching for the same cup of coffee from Piping Hot. Charlie is an introvert who came to Briarton to take care of his uncle. Nix is an care giver/nurse. Nix gets Charlie to sit with him and talk. They slowly start to have a relationship and they are perfect for each other. I loved it.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Charlie and Nix. It's a small town romance with an older couple. Neither were looking for a relationship and were surprised with their instant attraction. This is their story. The author brings a cast of strong characters and weaves a realistic story moving it fluidly with her descriptive writing ,delivering a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Charlie has a hard time connecting to people, Nixon is tired of being judged for his looks. Instant chemistry clicks them together. Will Charlie allow him close? Will Nixon get everything he longs for?
I absolutely loved these two! I loved how Nixon was this big teddy bear with a heart that was ginormous. Charlie definitely blossomed as the story went on and I loved seeing him be able to connect to people outside his small circle. Steamy read and can't wait for more from this author!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It’s one of those simple stories with uncomplicated themes and a couple of challenging characters to watch as they slowly find their center. Reasonable character development for the length of the story and a simple plot. The one bit of conflict introduced with the grandson Stephen felt unrealistic but it is what it is. The storyline survives, our couple remains together, and the story ends with the anticipated HEA.
Charlie and Nix found love at 45 after thinking that they were destined to be alone. Love how they met at the coffee shop reaching for the same coffee and both just moved there. Charlie was a writer and loved his uncle Otto, the way they met was just supposed to be. New author can’t wait to read more of her books!
This was a very cute enjoyable read! Charlie is quite an introvert and Nix is a big teddy bear of a nurse. Both of them are new to town trying to make a new life. These guys are so sweet! I loved watching their friendship grow! Uncle Otter was hilarious! This book has some awesome characters and a great storyline! Highly recommend! Received arc and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
This is a very fun read about two men who have both recently moved to town and have a chance meeting at a shop with each having the same coffee order. This follows the love found between an introverted man who is demisexual and feels like time is going by, then there's the extroverted man who feels like he's been used sexually for too long and want to find a real relationship.
I loved this book about two 45 year old men, Charlie and Nixon. This story is a sweet and light read reminding us that it is never too late for love and that soul mate's eventually do find each other. The two men are perfect for each other and the secondary characters are a lovely bunch. I wished I lived in Briarton. I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.
I really enjoyed both books in this series. Small town romance with older MC’s are rare to find and this author did such a great job with it. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and just generally enjoyed reading this. I definitely recommend this series.
