I know—it sounds stupid to me also. I'm a psychologist (sort of), so you'd think I'd be able to reason my way out of this mess. Except the reality is that I've been abducted to become their breeder, and it doesn't take an advanced degree to recognize this is all sorts of jacked up.
But I digress.
Apparently, these aliens are on the brink of extinction and need me and my fellow captives to repopulate. Yay us. I guess it's time to figure out an escape plan before they knock me up. I'll be back later.
Hopefully.
House of Kaimar Series: Book 1: The Commander's Captive (Lia & Varek) Book 2: The Monarch's Mate (Morgan & Zaden) Book 3: The Bodyguard's Breeder (Eleanor & Kade) Book 4: Kolton's book Book 5: Braxton's book
Miranda Bridges began sneaking romance novels as a teenager and did not confess to reading them until she became a legal adult. After years and years as a voracious reader she woke up one day with a story in mind. She decided to write it down in order to silence her imaginary friends, but they’ve grown in number and have gotten louder. When she is not reading, writing, or drinking coffee she is taking care of two princesses who are of a reading age. Needless to say Miranda is still hiding romance books around the house, but now some of them have her name on the cover.
I keep getting this series recommended, and it always sounds interesting. Unfortunately I just can't get past the authors total lack of a basic understanding of human biology. Seriously, I was totally yanked out of the story multiple times and finally gave up when the male lead tells the female lead that he always knows when she's horny. Because her boobs swell. I have no idea where some people get these ideas. Boobs do not swell a woman is horny. You can't prevent STDs and pregnancy by splashing cold water on your bits. Humans don't work like that! Good God romance authors, get it together!
I’m not sure why I picked up this book. I was in the alien mood and thought why not. It’s a very light and quick read. I wouldn’t call it smutty, but with the amount of verbiage, it was just enough (although I think it could have gone smuttier).
There’s a lot of secondary character building so it really gets you in the mood to read future books because you want to know what happens to the character. Even though each book is on a different couple, I think you need to read them in order because it would be confusing to understand where the next character is coming from.
Not a bad intro to the series. Let’s see what happens next.
Cute and funny and fairly smutty with a heroine who (I thought) made rational choices. Definitely about to gobble up more of this series.
FYI it's an alien abduction romance, so there is always going to an element of questionable consent. That might piss some ppl off, but I personally like this trope and thought the author addressed the issues enough so it didn't bother me.
Truly awful. Woman is with her kidnapper for 2 minutes, says something mildly rude and then gasps! 'I shouldn't be rude, I should be grateful he isn't "trying anything on"' (i.e. raping her). Then he says that he doesn't "stick his d**k in unwilling women" (i.e. rape them) but his computer tells him she is aroused, which obviously means she can't be unwilling (fyi you can be aroused and unwilling), then they get it on (i.e. he rapes her). All the while she's repeatedly narrating in her head about being a virgin, oh but "what I lack in experience, I make up with enthusiasm". Barfville.
I have read many (many!) books of this genre with similar or even the exact same themes and I enjoyed them. I am totally capable of escapism in these books and happy to enjoy them as they aren't real life. BUT I have never come across one that deals with such harmful ideas around rape in such a dismissive way. I think any author playing with themes like this has to be smarter than this. Badly done

I was bored with what I was reading and downloaded The Commander's Captive for some light reading before bed. It's now 4:21 a.m. and I'm going to have to drink a 12 pack of soda to get through work tomorrow! It's so worth it though. Wickedly funny, sharply paced and incredibly hot, I'm tempted to call in sick and read the rest of the series tomorrow. Thanks to Miranda Bridges for writing my new obsession series! The insane level of chemistry and wit in this book had me alternately chewing my bottom lip and laughing out loud. I can't wait to read Morgan's story. If you like romance, this book will make you love it!
Terrible book, they catch women, a lot of them, put a chip to measure their horniness and give them juice that makes them horny. Because they can only "breed" (rape) them If they're excited enough...
Yes I know this is how most of the alien books works, Stockholm syndrome, but this one was 0 sugar coated, full rapey and kidnappey~~
Heading towards the light is supposed to be a good thing, but if I survive, and if someone asks me, I will tell them it’s a bunch of bullshit.
This was way funnier than I expected. And yes, it’s another alien series on kindle unlimited, don’t judge me. I know what’s going to happen and I’m here for it. They get kidnapped and have sex with alien males. I knew this coming in.
I liked the MC’s very much. Especially Lia. Varek grew on me. He was intense and your typical alpha “stay by my side mate” guy. You know the type. That was him. I kind of expected more from the story though. It seemed kind of slow at times and there was so much side character action. I know it was building up to the rest of the series. But I wish this would have focused more on Lia and Varek.
An interesting read but I hate to say Lia kind of irritated the crap out of me with her needy insecurity crap I mean the guy tells you that you are his whole world but just because he didn't say I love you it causes you to go all depression mode get real anyways if you're a KU subscriber check it out
Lia and other human women are kidnapped by elfish aliens and kept captive on the aliens' spaceship. These elfish aliens, AKA the Dravians, are on the brink of extinction because there aren't many women left in their world. So now they're looking to breed with human women. As for Lia, it turns out that she's the ship commander's mate.
Okay, first of all, this book is hella problematic. It dances around serious topics like rape and Stockholm Syndrome. The female characters are very self aware, despite giving in to the aliens. What I'm trying to say is that you must suspend disbelief. The consent is dubious — yes, Lia willingly sleeps with Varek and she feels arousal and pleasure, etc. But at the end of the day, she was kidnapped and she's his captive. If you can't suspend disbelief and go along for the ride despite the problematic themes, then this book isn't for you.
I went with the flow and surprisingly enjoyed the story. Despite being a short book, The Commander's Captive packs a lot of action and emotion. I'm interested in continuing the series because Morgan is next! And I think we'll finally get to explore the Dravians' world, which should be fun.
This book had many things wrong and just not enough right to finish it, let alone read any other books in the series!
The books premise sounded awesome.
Then I began to read.
This is a rape book. Pure and simple. Not only that, but it’s one pov only! The heroines pov at that and she’s .... annoying!
These women are taken from home, all are being built up to be very intelligent collegiate’s who are going for masters degrees or something to that effect. But not one, none, even stopped to ask how much time passed on earth since they left... time flows differently away from our system, at least that’s what scholars think.
Not only that but the three women in this book are like, well yeah we know that these men are making sex with us all the tome but it’s so good, but it’s tape!, but it’s good. Gah! And the one who hasn’t been taken and mated or breezed is pissed that she’s the only one whose v card is secure.
Perhaps if we had another pov other than this stupid h we would know more but we don’t so forget it.
This book is very frustrating, especially when you think that lia is supposed to be on her masters in psychology? Really?! Ugh
It's not the best "alien smut" I have read, it's not the worst either. It's just hard reading this right after the semester ended because I just want to enjoy some mindless book to clear out my head, but that SW brain keeps kicking in... The reason I couldn't get into it and let my mind turn to mush for a while was because the story wasn't interesting enough in this first book since there is no world-building, the sexual tension is non existent (although, once you read one sex scene in a smut book, you've read them all), and there is really nothing happening. I am going to read the second one to see if the problem was that they were in the ship the whole book.
I just want to add that if you ever find a man who treats you like that ( possessive, commanding, and tries to isolate you from your friends and all you know) in real life, PLEASE RUN. It's not romantic and you shouldn't let yourself be treated that way.
4.25 Stars I really liked this book. The world was really different and unique. The aliens were very intriguing as well and I spent a lot of the book really curious about their culture, their mannerisms, abilities, and their way of dealing with things.
I enjoyed the love story between Leah and Varek. They were really cute together and I liked the progression of their story. It was a little bit faster paced than I would’ve liked though. If there would’ve been just a teeny bit more development there I think this would have been better.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I will be continuing with the series. I am very interested in seeing how all this plays out because I feel like we’ve just barely touched the surface with where this universe is going.
Cons: - Stilted dialogue - Female MC's relatively 🤷♀️ reaction to being kidnapped - The women are definitely raped, but the aliens are hot and get them off, so it's cool, I guess? Sorry, not my thing.
Ew. I feel gross after reading this love letter to toxic masculinity and rape culture. Also, you are not a psychologist after taking one semester of grad psych classes! Even the smut parts of this supposed "smut" book were not great. Ice Planet Barbarians is much better written and way less rapey.
Light and enjoyable alien abduction romance. I only wish we got Varek's point of view as well. But I liked this book. I liked Lia and Varek but I have to admit that it took a while for me to warm up to both of them.
In terms of my food rating analogies --- this one is a doughnut and coffee book. It's a satisfying snack-level kind of a read but it doesn't give me the same degree of yumminess and satisfaction as say a Shack Stack (which is Shake Shack's cheeseburger plus their 'shroom burger in one) with fries, which would be a 4-star book for me; or a gourmet meal from one of Joël Robuchon's Michelin rated restaurants, which would be a 5-star book for me.
I'm going to pick up book 2. I want to read about Morgan and her prince.
I really enj6this book, both the world building and the relationship between Lia and Varek. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. I fully recommend

This met my need for a simple, sweet, and sexy romance. The story flowed well and mostly kept my attention. While I did roll my eyes a few times, it was pretty good overall. I'm glad I gave it a 2nd try.
The sex scenes are fairly detailed and steamy. I disliked the few uses of the word c*nt.
★ What I Liked Best: The alien hero. He's a hunky alpha who falls fast for his mate. He'll do anything for her, except let her go.
😬 What Annoyed Me: The women frequently use the F-word. Then the aliens start using it.

🇲🇨🇸:
Lia (25) is at Hays University in Kansas with her BFF Morgan, pursuing a master's in psychology. Her parents are absent, with no explanation.
Varek (age?) is commander of the Phoenix and of the Kaimar house. He has the gift of telekinesis.
Prince Zaden, Varek's cousin, is their planet's prince.
The Dravian, sexy elf-like aliens, suppress their emotions because they lead to violence. They discover that bonding with humans amplifies their feelings, fueling jealousy and aggression.
🇵🇱🇴🇹: Lia, Morgan, and twenty other young women are kidnapped and taken aboard the Phoenix. The Dravian, whose women have become sterile, desperately need human DNA for reproduction. Human genetics are most compatible.
To no surprise, sex with Dravian females is rarely enjoyable and primarily for reproduction. The human women are paired with Dravians to have sex with, which becomes an instant-mate bond. The Dravians cherish the women and give them the best sex of their lives, so the women aren't too upset by the situation. It's all lighthearted.
▪️ Morgan is paired with Prince Zaden in book two. ▪️ Brittany is paired with Arjun. She gets pregnant.
🎭 The Drama & Action: ⚔️
🔸Prince Zaden planned the kidnapping by himself.
🔸The Dravian venture into Yalat (reptile-like aliens) territory to retrieve the women, risking war when the Yalat discover them.
🔸 When Brittany learns she's pregnant, she panics. Lia calms her, but Arjun arrives, mistakenly thinking Lia is harming his mate and throws her across the room. Varek arrives, furious to find his mate injured, lovingly cares for her while dealing with Arjun.
🔸The Yalat invade the ship. Nine women are killed. The Dravian kill the Yalat and destroy their ship.
🔸Prince Zaden tells Varek that he must return to Earth to get more women, as their future depends on them. Lia, Morgan, and Joan hilariously try to escape by kidnapping the Dravian doctor they call "Bones." The doctor then tells Lia she's pregnant.
🔸Twenty more women are kidnapped.
😂 A Few Humorous Excerpts: I can do nothing but palm his cock, but I rub that shit like it’s a lamp that will produce three wishes.
If this is alien abduction, I understand why all of the people in the movie Independence Day stood with their stupid signs on the Empire State Building. Nothing on Earth can possibly feel this good.
▪️ “Why are you frightened, Lia? Do you think I will hurt you?” ▪️ I run my gaze over his baseball-bat-sized dick and nod my head. Hell yeah, I’m scared of that. I want him to hit a home run, not initiate manslaughter. I was excited about his cock when I was horny, but without the fog of lust, I see things for what they are. And that is a weapon of mass destruction.

🤗 Varek says to Lia: “I am mated to you, namori. My soul has intertwined itself with yours. Your longings and desires are mine to fulfill, and I will do so gladly. Everything I have is yours. You and you alone are now my life.”
A near-perfect Varek insta-bonds with Lia and shows her how much he cares. However, since he never says he loves her, she doubts his feelings. 🙄 Varek fights to prove his love and win her over.
Varek insists he’s made his feelings clear, but Lia doubts him, wanting love, not lust. Varek admits his emotions are so intense they scare him, claiming he’s faced enemies and destruction but fears losing her. He declares his feelings go beyond mere love.
❤️ Varek says to Lia: "You. Are. Everything.”
Lia is finally convinced. She gets a tattoo like Varek's, and they wear matching engagement ear cuffs. After their vows, they'll be replaced with marriage earrings. Varek will be the prince’s advisor to stay with her.
💞 FINAL WORDS: 💞 I place a hand on my flat stomach, knowing that there is life within. It was made from love, and each day will be an adventure with my baby as she grows. I look at Varek and then to the stars behind him, thinking about how I wanted to visit the world and experience other cultures. Meeting aliens checks meeting new people off of the list, and traveling to a new planet definitely counts as exploring something outside of Kansas. When I dreamed of those things, I never would have envisioned it happening this way, especially after being abducted, but now I have a new life and a love that is literally out of this world.

Short story with a simple plot. Completely forgettable. Nothing new or exciting. Standard "mars needs women" trope. Writing is okay. Sex scenes are disappointing. I did laugh at some of the humor in it, so there were a few good parts. Just wish it was longer and more detailed.
I'm not satisfied with most books in this genre because I like a well-written story that has depth, that actually invokes emotions when reading. With well-rounded characters that you come to know and care about. This falls way short of that.
Very interesting. I enjoyed this book. I liked the development of the characters. I liked how there may have been ista love-ish but everyone fought it and didn’t fully accept it. I’m curious about the planet that they are going to and what they will think of human woman.
