Why didn't I realize who he was before I got blindsided in his bar? We have history. I need his help. He wants me gone.
And he hasn't changed in fifteen years. Still that cocky, sexy-as-hell jerk who calls me cupcake. I want to damn his eyes. Damn the way he sips whiskey like it's a proposition. Damn that I need his help and he isn't offering.
Yes, I'm Hollywood's darling. Or I was. Until I wrote that tell-all book. Now I have a freak after me. Scary enough to make me call my twin. Ask for help. And she sends me to him. Says I can trust him. When he walks up to a line and won't cross.
If there were two people who shouldn't work together - we're that pair. Garrett Kincade makes me crazy. I make him crazy. We've always been combustible. We still are. But it isn't because he calls me cupcake. It's the way I catch him looking at me. The way I'm looking at him. Wet and naked from the shower, stalking toward me with that look in his eyes.
Reckless is a full-length, second chance at love that could burn just as destructively as the first...
Reckless is Soleil St.Clair's story and it follows Luna's story in Scandal. While both books are stand-alone, there are spoilers in Reckless that add suspense in Scandal, and you will enjoy both books more if you read Scandal first.
Sue Wilder first discovered the power of story as a child living in California, when she was caught starting a grapefruit war in a neighboring orchard. She managed to absolve all her cohorts from guilt and has since moderated her behavior. She now writes New Adult romance and Paranormal Fantasy romance with hunky heroes, independent women, and twists, suspense, spice, and HEAs.
She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and a yellow lab named Maxine.
The mystery/suspense was interesting but the main characters left me not really connecting with them at all or their romance.
SPOILER AHEAD!!!
Reason being is that heroine was portrayed as someone who had slept around a lot before meeting Hero & had been a cold, self centered type. It took close to the end for me to sort of like her. Then there was the Hero. He didn't come across as a player but in the story there were 3 OW in his life that I didn't care about.
One was Angie, his masseuse & friend who kept calling him "Babe" and who stripped him naked in in front of heroine to give him a massage because of the pain he was suffering on his back. In that initial scene, she came across as possessive & "familiar" - aka familiar with touching him & seeing him naked. I get he was in pain and needing a massage to alleviate the pain but why couldn't the scene have played out with heroine giving the massage? Why did OW have to undress give completely (aka nude) to give him a massage in his back & thighs? Their relationship/familiarity with each other was never addressed and it left me wondering if they had been more than friends/masseuse.
The 2nd OW was a woman he was sorta dating by the name of Maggs who was the town pharmacist and it was a platonic relationship where he only took her to dinner from time to time to stifle his "loneliness". He had no romantic feelings for this one and I was okay with that.
But then there was the 3rd OW who was a widow of his dead friend and a few yrs older then him. He was helping raise her teenage son of a sort by being a role model for him. He had a very close relationship with Missy and it was hard for this reader to figure out if he had any romantic feelings for her in past or present other then as a friend. Initially, Missy flirted/came on to him but he shot her down. But then in the end, she states she loves & sees him as a friend. We never got his thoughts about her but you could feel she was important to him. So it left me wondering, if heroine had not come into the picture, would he be with her? I just wished author had clarified that he didn't see her in a romantic sense, then perhaps I wouldn't have had an issue with it.
I also have an issue with 2nd chance romances as this was where an x amount of years go by (in this case 15) and we are told that they "always loved each other" or "never stopped loving each other?. Uhm... you had other relationships in all those years and never got in touch or thought of one another! Plus, this couple did not have any past relationship to have "loved" one another. They were in HS and all we got is that they played pranks on each other. How is that being in love when you don't even know each other?
As for everything else, it was just an okay read. It didn't make me want to DNF but it also made me skip pages (especially the sex scenes) to get to the end.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Soleil and Garrett. The author does a fantastic job developing the story and building their relationship. She brings danger and suspense and keeps you on the edge reading. Her scenes are painted vividly and the story flows fluidly. It's a slow burn romantic thriller and is a great read!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This is a romantic thriller with slow burn and good twists. Soleil and Garrett are great! The author does a great job developing their story. The story is captivating with suspense and danger. I love the characters and the chemistry between them is off the charts. Although this is the third story in the "With Me" series is stands alone.
Reckless (With Me, #3) by Sue Wilder – So I won an advanced copy of the second book in this series, and that is how I discovered Sue Wilder. Fully expecting to not like Soleil as much as I loved Luna, I was pleasantly surprised! An emotional and satisfying adventure with a sweetheart of an ending! Happy Reading!
I really enjoyed this book! The storyline was well developed, the characters were complex and well developed and the story world was detailed. The writing drew me in and I felt immersed in the story! I always look forward to more books by this author and would recommend this book!
A good read. This is the third book in this series and my first. I am looking forward to read more from this author. The story flows well, the characters are engaging and have great chemistry.
Really good romantic thriller. I enjoyed the story of Garrett & Soleil’s relationship and how it develops against a background of danger. Soleil is an actress who has become the victim of a stalker after writing a ‘tell all’ book; Garrett is a former security expert who has survived near death trauma. They are both damaged in their own way and, as a result, find it hard to trust each other; working out a way forward whilst fighting their undeniable chemistry that started in high school fifteen years before. The story is well written and follows on from a previous book (Scandal) about Soleil’s sister, Luna. ‘Reckless’ is a stand-alone book, and has a nail-biting pace culminating in a HEA. I will definitely be ‘back tracking’ and reading ‘Scandal’ now as I enjoyed Sue Walker’s writing.
