Sometimes the person you need is the last one you expect…

When the Albanian mob shows up at her door, Cate Biscayne knows her father is up to his old tricks. Determined to force him out of hiding, the criminals he conned take her hostage. Brutal by nature, Scottish dragon-warrior Rannock has little patience for humans. But when the woman he longs for goes missing, he flies halfway around the world to investigate her disappearance. With few clues to follow, he infiltrates a network in the criminal underworld, only to discover a magic more sinister than his own.

First Impressions
Fury of Isolation is the fifth installment in the "Dragonfury: Scotland" series. I was really stoked to try this book because this pairing was teased so well in the previous book and it was a blast of a good time. If you love paranormal romance with sexy dragons and a bit of kidnapping, then yes go with this one. There is some fantastic laughter and a thrilling plot with so much fun suspenseful times.

First Line
Her cell phone rang, dragging Cate Biscayne from a fitful sleep.

Summary
Cate and Rannock have been sharing phone calls and text for quite a bit and keeping it hidden from their family and Rannock's pack as their relationship wouldn't be encouraged. But when Cate's father gets into trouble with some dangerous immortal demi gods, she is taken captive and Rannock brings some of his pack to help rescue her. But what he finds is a different situation than he expected to find. But now he will have to go on a dangerous mission in order to save the woman he loves...

What I Loved
This is a story that has the whole protector/damsel in distress vibes. Even though the heroine isn't a true damsel in distress, she is a mere human in comparison to these immortal beings so yes the power dynamic is NOT on her side haha although she is fiery and passionate when she needs to be. I really adored these two together. Their connection was intense and dramatic and really kept me captivated. I kinda was also cheering for these immortals. *I may be reading too much of dark romance* but I also really couldn't get enough of how the plot was incorporated with these beings. It also delivered some powerful humor along the way and if you love some great spice....this author delivers on that!

What I Struggled With
It was a solid read, but it didnt quite make me fall in love with it. But it was entertaining from beginning to end.

Narration
Fabulous narration. She really handles the Scottish accents just right.

Overall View
Fury of Isolation was a fiery passionate romance that delivered on the suspense, spice and plot building!

Recommendation For Reading Order
You can read as standalones if you like or read in order if you want the serial plot to make more sense

Steam/Spice Explanations

Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.

I love all of Coreene Callahan's dragonfury book series - so I was really excited to read the ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. It was really great until the end - is there a new editing staff or what occured? Definitely buy this book.

Disclaimer: there are some Spoiler Alerts here.

I was really into the story of how Rannock connected with Cate (Nicole's sister from "Fury of Persuasion" book). He goes to American to save her (along with other dragons from his Scottish pack). Great storyline, movement, and a fantastic introduction of some new characters called Shadow Walkers. I really hope the author creates another series based on these three (Rathbone, Noble, and Dillinger). But the ending should've incorporated her sister Nicole somehow - a conversation, maybe Nicole traveling to the funeral - just something when the father died (but absolutely nothing was mentioned about Nicole). And then what happened at the very end with the father made no sense. I think the 3 shadow walkers would have identified what he was before the burial.

Overall I liked the storyline and would have liked more about the 'mystery' dragons detected around the Savannah area. Hopefully we'll hear more about this American dragon group in the future. But definitely want to read a new book series with the three Shadow Walkers!

Corrine Callahan has done it again! Her new book, Fury of Isolation, starts out sizzling and left me in an A/C'd room with 40-degree Texas weather outside. If you are familiar with the series, you're instantly connected to the characters....Get ready for a WILD ride baby from the 1st word! If you're new, strap in for an action packed story. The books have 3 things in common: Dreamy, battle-tested males, strong females who know their value, and fully-developed storylines. Oh how I love a great series! If you're looking for a great read, THIS IS IT!!

The dragons of the Dragonfury series are in-your-face, bad%&&, males that are often described with words such as toxic and lethal. They all love to trade insults and are always looking for a fight against foe or friend. Basically, they are dragons that would probably annoy me. But then, they meet their mate. And….they get all gooey. Which is kind of delightful.

At the beginning of Fury of Isolation, Rannock has already met Cate who is sister to Nicole (see Fury of Persuasion). On the phone. They’ve been talking regularly and have become quite close. The book does not give the backstory on how they ‘met’, but that does not seem to be important to the story. They’ve become close enough so that when Cate is in trouble, she calls him rather than the police. And Rannock is an ocean away.

I really like this heroine. Cate has a delightful direct attitude. Like when she says things like “Ran gives me orgasms. I’m much nicer to him.” And when she considers being called “odd” a compliment.

This book introduces some new supernatural beings. Fae Shadow Walkers are the ‘Albanian mob’ mentioned in the book blurb. They are evil, but not really, dragon-like in temperament and make a great adversary in this story. It seems like they could be part of the ongoing Dragonfury story.

While Cate’s dad is sort of a background figure, it becomes obvious that there is much more to him than the story reveals. More possible Dragonfury fodder? And speaking of unfinished stories, at the beginning of the book, Rannock is hunting rogue dragons in Scotland – but that part of the story never progresses beyond his unsuccessful hunt.

Readers of the Dragonfury series recognize the long story arcs that are present. While you can read each book as a standalone, it can be a bit frustrating if you are a stickler for wrapping up loose ends.

The verdict: Fury of Isolation is what I call a palate cleanser. Light and romantic, with just the right among of danger. Great between heavier novels and always fun to read.

Thanks to the publisher who provided a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Fury of Isolation continues the series with the Scottish Dragonkind pack. Cate is confident, feisty and loyal, everything you would expect as the main love interest of a Dragonkind Warrior. She finds herself in some trouble when she is kidnapped so Rannock rushes to America to find her and make sure that she is safe. This book will keep your interest with the blossoming love story, the action and the mysterious supernatural beings that are introduced in the story. I think if you are new to the series it might be helpful to read at least one other book of the series as I don't think the important supernatural elements of a relationship between a dragonkind male and human female are as clearly explained as they are in this book but it will still be a good read.

In this most recent novel in the series, it is all action for the main characters - Ran & Cate.

Initially brought together by something simple as answering a phone call meant for another, then continued phone calls bring the pair closer and closer. Ran becomes frantic when Cate goes missing on another continent.

With his brothers in arms Ran flies from Scotland to Northern America to search for Cate. Twists & turns galore before they find their HEA.

Not to give anything away, but what an Epilogue!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest adventure with the Dragonfuries. The book was an enjoyable mix of familiar characters and worlds, but also new and interesting allies or enemies! Kept my attention throughout, and unlike some books where I take a break partway through to read something else, this one I enjoyed without getting sidetracked.

*SPOILER* Loved the twist at the end!

I loved the connection and vibe between Cate and Rannick. These Scottish dragons are so fun to read about. Add in new magical beings called Shadow Walkers and you have an interesting twist that will keep on the edge of your seat. I’m looking forward to learning more about the trio of brothers.

Well this was...

description

The romance was mostly okay, though it was even more instantaneous than in other books, and was not much of a focus on it.

One of my biggest problems was that the plot kinda felt like Swiss Cheese, with lots of gaping holes that I personally feel like should not have been there, and that made the storytelling very clunky. For example new supernatural races are "introduced" in this installment of the series, however not much of actual introducing is going on, because barely any information is actually given to the readers about them. Just a few details casually mentioned, and the characters talking like whatever they are talking/thinking about should be well-known to everybody.

To further/somewhat illustrate the no details problem - and because the case particularly annoyed me -, the situation with one particular object that could have used a lot more detailed description, and a lot sooner than it did:

New character at the very beginning: "Dragon go get back my stuff!"
*Dragon proceeds to first plan, and then go get new character's stuff.* (Suggesting he has, at the very least, a good idea what he is looking for, however until the plot gets to the point when the dragons are right in front of it, neither he, nor any of the other characters mention much more about it than the things name.)
Meanwhile me: "Book you keep mentioning [stuff's name] this, [stuff's name] that, the whole plot of yours mostly centered around the thing, but what the heck is it?!? Stop being so gosh darn cryptic and give me details what you are talking about! Or am I supposed to have some basic idea?" * Gets to the point that googles the thing's name thinking maybe it's from some kind of myth/legend/something. Gets nothing. * "Nope, I am not supposed to have any idea!"

description

There is the thing when readers not get all the information right away on a silver platter, and there is when they get so little info, that they are confusedly scratching their heads what's going on. Unfortunately, for me it was the latter throughout a good chunk of this book.

The other half of my issues are a simple matter of taste, the most notable one having its roots in my childhood.
To put it very simply I am from the generation that grew up on Harry Potter, and so the traditional inherently evil witch of fairy tales lands somewhere between a incredibly hard sell and absolutely no sell for me.

description

Anyways, even though this one was not for me and I'm a little unsure about the direction things are going - mostly due to these new races in this book -, I really love the Dragonfury universe and will definitely check out whatever the author comes out with next.

mixed feelings about this book -- 2 1/2 stars -- the romance, though insta-love of sorts, still feels comfortable and you do get a sense of the deep affection/connection that Cate & Ran have for each other. Cate (another dragon mate's sister) "met" Ran when he answered a phone call meant for the sister. Since then they have both felt drawn toward the other and have semi-secretly been speaking on the phone daily for a month, getting to know each other, building a rapport/connection. Just before Cate is to fly to Scotland to visit her sister (and meet Ran), trouble happens. Her instinct is to call Ran for help, his is to head to the US, with several of his packmates, to help. I enjoyed how the chapters in this part of the story where done in countdown fashion adding a nice added touch to the story. Alas that means that you're about a third of the way into the story before the 2 actually meet in person for the 1st time and as Ran is required to handle a supernatural matter with his packmates before he's able to take Cate home there is a significant portion of the book that the 2 are apart. though, as mentioned, the author does do a good job of showing the true affection (not just lust) that has developed between them during those portions of the story where they are together. The author expands her world to introduce some new supernatural types (and hint at others) that are separate from the dragons. although interesting and heavily involved in the story, we are only given a hint of who/what they are and what they can do and left with lots of questions (some of which Ran thinks of himself though answers never seem to have been looked for much less provided) which leaves a sense uncertainty/confusion/dissatisfaction to the story. A sense that something important (separate from the romance) was missing. a sense that the final scene of the epilogue did not help but only made worse. in summary, while I liked the romance and the characters, part of the plot felt missing or limited and ended on a scene that felt unnecessary and soured the ending happy wrap up.

Coreen Callahan writes some of the best dragon adventures. I was exhausted when I finished this book! Her dragon battles are vivid, action packed and fabulous. Her stories would make great movies. I can just see them on Netflix. This is Rannock's story in the Scottish Pack. Her dragon series' are interconnected and with this one the world she's created is getting bigger. We meet new magic beings that I'm sure we'll see more of and learn about a previously unknown dragon pack in the US. I can't wait to see where she goes next.

Rannock finds himself talking on the phone with a woman in America accidentally the first time, a wrong number. They spend a month on the phone getting to know each other. When she's kidnapped, she calls him, knowing he'll find her. Cate Biscayne is the sister to Nicole, Vyroth's mate (#4 Fury of Persuasion). Cate knows exactly who he is quickly as she and Nicole share everything. Their Dad is a con man, thief, who is always in trouble. Their family life has always been on the run, one step ahead of getting caught. In adulthood Cate has made a name for herself restoring classic cars. When the shop she works at is broken into and she's taken, she knows it's about her Dad who has gone dark. She calls Rannock instead of the police as it's happening because she knows he'll believe her and will come for her. This starts a chain of events that brings Rannock and three of his pack mates to Savannah Georgia to find her. It is quite an action packed journey with several surprises.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow! What a great book! I really like the two strong individuals, Cate Biscayne and Rannock, that the story revolves around. Cate, an exceptional human automobile mechanic, and Rannock, a metal dragon, have been talking on the phone morning and night for about a month, but they have never met in person.

Cate is kidnapped and Rannock and his Dragon are ready to go after her. He gathers his dragonkind packmates, they leave Scotland, and fly to the US .having no idea where Cate was taken. As they are arriving, a Shadow Walker contacts Rannock giving him directions to meet with him to receive demands for Cate's release. So, while Rannock is off on a quest to fulfill the Shadow Walker's demands, Cate and Rannock relationship and bond are growing stronger.

As we get to know Cate and Rannock while we go through their love story with them, we are introduced to Witches, Shadow Walkers and other Dragonkinds. The book moves quickly, but keeps your interest. You will encounter as you read action, adventure, suspense, murders, strategies and planning, heated discussions, quest, plots, twist and turns, family and friends trust and loyality and, of course, romance and different levels of love.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys paranormal suspense romance, paranormal shifter romance, dragonkind romance, paranormal fantasy and paranormal action and adventure books. This book you don't want to miss. It's fun to read!

This book settled a completely different scene and I really loved it. Nicole’s sister Cate is living in the US and has been talking to Rannock each morning on the phone since he answered it one day instead of Nicole. As time passes, they grew wary of each and they can’t wait to meet when Cate will fly to Scotland.

However, Cate’s father brought trouble again and she got kidnapped. Rannock goes to her rescue and then discovers the Triad brothers who want something in exchange for his mate !!
Rannock is haunted by his past and the death of a woman, combined with rage and violence, as a Bronze dragon he has a pretty strong personality. Cate is the illustration of the twenty-first-century woman, strong, independent, fierce; she knows everything about cars that will permit her to bond with Dillinger. They make a cute couple who rapidly understand each other and got in sync.

It was really interesting to have a new species introduced, we know that they are Shadow Walker without understanding what it clearly means which opens further possibilities. As the plot continues, I kind of want to know more about Rathbone, Noble, and Dillinger, they seem to have seen a lot and to be kind of lost, or just blasé. And of course, I can’t wait to read more about the other one of the Scotland Pack.

After pre-ordering the book, I was provided with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. And, honestly, I am in love with this series and each book gets better!

Ms. Callahan has created a unique world filled with dragons and an unknown number of other magical, mystical creatures. This newest title in the series introduces us to one - Shadow Walkers.

Cate is a well-rounded character, but directly impacted by the nefarious activities of her less than honest father, who has always been one step ahead of disaster, until now. Luckily, Cate has already been in contact with their savior, Rannock, a Scottish dragon shifter with the strength, intelligence, and drive to save them all.

I don't want to give away too much of their adventure, thanks 100% to Dad, but suffice it to say, you will not be able to put it down once you start. Non-stop action, coupled with a bit of dragon romance, will not leave you disappointed.

But, if you are new to the Dragonfury series, you must stop now and start at the beginning. This is book 5 about the Scottish Pack, but I highly recommend you start with their American brothers in the primary Dragonfury series! You can thank me later:-)

All I can say is Wow! Didn't think I'd grow to love the Scottish pack so much. But each story gets better. Ran is my favorite...so far. (Waiting anxiously for Temple's story)
I really like Ran's connection with Cate. Their chemistry is awesome. Cate has just enough attitude to be cool and just enough vulnerability to make you want to hug her. Ran is the bad ass with the heart of gold and enough compassion to want to help those in need. I've been hooked on the Dragonfury series since first meeting Bastian in "Fury of fire." With each book we learn more about the different dragons and their packs.
With this story, we're given even more knowledge of the various packs and their history. While drawing the reader into the characters we've grown to know and love, Ms. Callahan also manages to introduce a whole new magical realm. I personally can not wait for the Shadow walkers stories.
I'm waiting for the next book with bated breath.

Good story but something missing in the delivery....

A feisty mechanic has been kidnapped by the triad to be used as leverage against her father for something they need. Instead of her father they get the dragon who she has been having a long distance phone romance with. He will do anything to get her back but they will pay.
There are some interesting characters introduced and I wish I got to know more about the dragons and the Shadow Walkers. I really wanted to like this book but I had too many questions after reading it. For example, the two main characters have been talking on the phone for a month. They met because he answered the phone when he shouldn't have. That is all we are told. Why was she calling? Why shouldn't he have answered the phone? The reader is left with questions like this while reading the entire book. There is no back story or explanation for a lot of the events and characters in the book.
It also needed a proof reader. There were a lot of missing words that distracted me while reading.

When Cate Biscayne is kidnapped she knows it is because her father has done something really stupid and she will be the one to pay the price, if there isn't a miracle. The miracle is a Scottish dragon-warrior named Rannock, who doesn't care much for most humans but Cate is the exception. She is his and those that dared to take her will pay dearly.

Thus begins Fury of Isolation! It will literally blast you right into the action and you will be flipping pages at hyper speed to get to the end. Then you will really wish you had read slower to savor the danger, drama, romance and just listen to the Scottish brogues that come from these dragon.

Fantastic read, heart pounding action, twist and turns, a steamy, fun romance and a lot of intriguing characters fill the pages. Really even some of the bad guys aren't quite so bad and the Shadow Walkers author Coreene Callahan has come up with just might make a great series. Is there a hopeful hint here? Well ... yes.

This mating match is between Cate, the sister to Nicole (in book #4 - Fury of Persuasion) and her mystery caller, a Scottish dragon Rannock. He has a few hang-ups about getting involved with a woman, but he and Cate have been playing phone chat games. He's trying to deny the mate vibes. Well Cate and Nicole's dad is a piece of crap and his criminal actions gets Cate kidnapped and it's Rannock and the dragon warriors to the rescue... The good: I liked Cate's character, the idea of her being a top notch mechanic that refurbishes classic cars was cool. The way she was patient with the salty old dragon, Rannock helped. I listened to this in audio and I'm a sucker for a narrator that can roll her "rrrrrrrs" and bring all the feels of a Scottish clan. Plan to continue with the next book in the series.

From the moment I started reading I became absorbed in this story. There was quite a bit going on to keep me reading. The warrior creatures were interesting as well as the larger plot beyond the scope of this novel. The romance was there between Cate and Rannock but I didn’t feel it was the dominant thread in the story. They were kept apart by the circumstances around them. There was no real conflict between them as far as needing to work through any personal issues to be able to be together. The epilogue has an intriguing event and left me wondering where the story is going to go next.

This was an entertaining, fast-paced story with plenty of action and interesting developments throughout.

I've read all the books in this series so far and I have enjoyed reading this one too. Great intrigue, intro to new characters (Shadows Walkers) which hold promise for a new series. Rannock and Cate were just made for each other. The fact that Cate was the sister to Nicole (mated to Vyroth [Book #4 Fury of Persuasion]) was an impetus to this story. The allure of only phone conversations between Rannock and Cate was an allure for reading how these two would ever connect face to face. There were great secondary characters with Rathbone, Noble, and Dillinger making up the Shadow Walkers. As for a villain, that will come as a surprise near the end of the story. And the switch to this unsuspecting villain will surprise any reader. This is my review via a Booksprout ARC.

Really?

I do enjoy reading these stories, mostly. They are exciting. Full of action with just enough romance to make things interesting. In this one a couple of new powers were introduced. Good? Bad? Well, that is still the question. I see another spin-off series in our future. We got to the happy for Rannock and his mate, but were left with a plethora of unanswered questions. Fair warning, these are not stand alone stories. Each are built on the others. I'm kind of okay with this because I have been reading from the beginning. But, as this world grows and becomes more complex, will we ever see any resolutions? I am beginning, maybe past beginning, to become frustrated by no resolutions this far into the series. Just more bad guys? Really?

Good series but...

An interesting series that keeps you glued to the story... except when you have to wade the chapters of turgid uninspiring writing about how each character thinks, feels, dreams, fears...on and on.

And then there's a fight followed by chapters of turgid uninspiring writing about how each character thinks, feels, dreams, fears...on and on.

And then they have sex followed by chapters of turgid uninspiring writing about how each character thinks, feels, dreams, fears...on and on.

And then there's another fight ad nauseum. You end up literally skipping 2 or even sometimes 3 chapters just so that the story can continue.

But aside from that.... it's a good series. But be prepared to skip chapters to get to the story.

Cate can take a beat up, old vehicle and make it brand new. While working one evening, three guys get out of their car and kidnap her. The first thing she thinks is her dad has got in trouble again. Next she quickly call Rannot, a man she's never met but has been talking on the phone to for a month. Rannot lives in Scotland and is a dragon shifter. The kidnappers think since they have Cate, her father will bring back the item he took. Witches have it now and only the dragons can get it back.

Good story. Cliffhanger. Sex. Action. I'm not really for sure what Rathbone ( kidnapper ) is. This is a different type of dragon that I have ever read about.

Absolutely fabulous. Coreene really expanded the Dragonfury world in this book, introducing three new and intriguing characters that i cannot wait to read more about in the future (they need mates of their own). Along with the introduction of an evil coven and the blind witch.
The only problem i had with Cate and Rannocks romance was that it felt kind of like insta love, but that was only because we didnt really get to see much of their nightly phone convos they had been having for the last month.
Other than that it was brilliant, filled with heat and passion, excitement and suspense.
Cannot wait for the next book in this world.
