Just Champion : The Stories Behind Rangers' 2020/21 Title Triumph

Rate this book
Just Champion: The Stories Behind Rangers' 2020/21 Title Triumph tells the tale of a league title win against all odds. Rangers were ridiculed in 2018 when they appointed rookie manager Steven Gerrard. But slowly, and methodically, he transformed the side into a machine, and one that would completely dismantle Celtic's hopes of landing an unprecedented tenth successive title. Now, 25 members of the Rangers family - from ex-players to loyal supporters - tell the story of how the title came home to Ibrox. Mark Walters, Marco Negri, Ally Dawson and Lisa Swanson are among the players featured, as is former director John Gilligan. The impressive cast list also includes comedian and broadcaster Andy Cameron MBE, former MP Sir Brian Donohoe and even one of Her Majesty's Ambassadors. TV stars, restaurateurs, coaches and entertainers all share their stories, and what connects them is an unequivocal love of Glasgow Rangers. You will laugh, cry and marvel at each of the unique tales in this book.

This book takes a sideways look at Rangers’ title winning season of 2020/2021 by having each chapter written by a fan of the club (from former players & managers to politicians to regular fans) explaining exactly what the 55th title and Rangers as a whole means to them whilst also commenting on a particular game from the season just gone.

I really enjoyed hearing all of the different stories and I thought it really showed what a broad church the Rangers support is. It zipped along really nicely with short chapters meaning that more contributions could be fitted in.

A great read for Rangers fans, written by Rangers fans. Basically a collection of memories about Glasgow Rangers famous 55th title victory. Funny, sad and poignant. It does get a bit repetitive in places due to the similar recollections the contributors are giving, but on the whole a very good book.

I am a LFC-fan and bought this book as I have followed Stevie G's managerial career. I think this book would we be worth 4/5 stars if I actually knew or cared about previous Rangers managers and players. I don't, so the viewpoint of the people interviewed in the book could be the viewpoints of any random fans. Also, a lot of them say the same things about the season, manager and players which is pretty dull to read repeatedly.
