Be patient, for surely it is only a few days. You are only stationary riders. Each of you will soon be called and you will respond without delay. Your souls have already announced your death. Death will grasp you and there is no way around it.

Books like these should be read once in a while to remind ourselves how temporary and illusory this world is — the very worldly life we crave for, fight for, and live for. Yet the only thing that ultimately satisfies the belly of a human being is death, and death alone. No one has ever lived in this world permanently; even those who were once powerful and wealthy have turned to dust.

We are all so attached to worldly things that we often forget death is closer to us than anything else. We keep hoarding material wealth as if we are going to live here forever. However, the reality is that we are only travellers on a journey that will soon come to an end, and no material possession will save us from the grip of death.

A beautifully constructed book on the comparisons of the dunya and its reality compared to the hereafter. It brings forth a realization that if one doesn’t stop chasing the dunya, one will be in great loss.

I know that chasing after worldly life doesn't make one happy, but living with that awareness every day is truly difficult. That's why we should regularly remind ourselves why we are in this world, that death can find us at any moment, and prepare ourselves for the afterlife.

"Shall we abandon what we see for that which we don’t see?"

"A kernel received in the hand is better than a promise tomorrow."

"Take what you see and leave what you heard about."

"We are the children of today and this present life. How can we abandon this for an unseen life in a far-off land when we don’t know when we will arrive there?”

A book filled with much wisdom and reminders regarding the pursuit of materialism and the dunya. The above points are thoughts we've all wrestled with at our lowest moments. The question is, do we stop and entertain such thoughts or move on to our true destination? May Allah guide all of us.
