Librarian's Note: An alternate cover/author for this ASIN can be found here.

Sometimes, when it seems there is no hope, fate has other plans.

Cassie Lewis is furious when she finds out that the endangered porpoise sanctuary she’s spent years planning has been scrapped. She’s spent her whole life dreaming of saving the small porpoises and she isn’t about to give up now. She heads to the pristine beachside community of friends and family to rally support and try to change the minds of the people in charge.

As the fateful meeting approaches, her joy in enjoying the sand and sea with her best friends and track the endangered species as best they can turns to sorrow when she discovers that the man she’s falling for over moonrises and margaritas is much more than he seems.

Alex has spent his life following the directions and desires of his family, creating a family business worth millions. He’s always wondered why his family has been so attached to this particular spot of exotic ocean on the Sea of Cortez—and has warm, sepia memories of the place from his childhood. Seeing it through Cassie’s eyes brings new appreciation for it and her love of the endangered vaquita porpoises captures his heart, too.

His instructions to crash Cassie's dreams are non-negotiable with his family. As his heart becomes entwined with hers, and old family secrets are uncovered, can a man charged with a mission and a woman determined to follow her passion find a way to meet in the middle?

As Deep As The Ocean is Book One of this heartwarming, sweet romance series. Cassie and her family and friends navigate the heartaches and triumphs of love and life in the small beach community on the Sea of Cortez. The series is the continuing saga of friends, families, and the people of the South Campos.

There was really nothing wrong with this story but it was very simple. No real development of plot or characters.

While I enjoyed reading about the sanctuary and preservation, this book was rife with errors. There were many missing words and clumsy sentences.

Saving the Porpoises

This is a light and breezy beach read on the surface, though it does actually look at more serious issues. The heroine struggles with the fact that her pet project to save vaquita porpoises is given the kibosh by the owners of the property it would have used. She is determined to talk with those in charge at the proposed to sanctuary spot herself. The hero, of course, is the CEO of the company that has abandoned the project. The meet-cute was fun, as she was in need of a little rescuing. Their first days together, when neither knows who the other is, provides a nice initial unfolding of the potential for romance. But, of course, that all changes when they find out who the other is. I like that the book actually went into some science about the main topic at hand and delved into the concept of what our roles should be as stewards of the planet, not just pillagers as we often seem to be. This is unexpected in an otherwise light read, but the author wove it in deftly.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This an enjoyable book & a great
start to the new series.
It's a feel-good, interesting & moving
romance.
Cassie, is a marine biologist. She fell
in love with Vaquita Beach, at a young
age. She has spent the last five years trying to find way to save the almost extinct vaquita. (porpoise)
Alex, is CEO, of his family's business.
When plans change regarding the
vaguita sanctuary, he heads to Mexico.
While on the beach, Alex, notices a woman in trouble. After he rescues her,
he learns her name is Cassie.
Attraction aside, what Cassie & Alex
don't know, is they're on opposite sides
regarding the sanctuary.
Must Read Story!!

This is a wonderful adventure and so different than the genre’ I usually read from this author. It’s rare to read about science along with a fictional story-line and keep fascinated in the book hour after hour, but, this is definitely the case with the read. The journey of Cassie at Scripp’s Institute of Oceanography in San Diego; the research of the vaquita porpoise; and, the added friendship of both young/old, rich/poor and a Mexican village, all make this book one that you must read. I loved the research it took to write this book and the heartfelt meaning about our environment. Yes, I did bring out the Kleenex. I feel privileged to receive an ARC copy from this author.

Two and a half stars, rounded up. This was a short, easy read with likable characters. I appreciated the premise of Cassie, a young female scientist working to save the small porpoises (vaquitas) from extinction in a secluded Mexican beach town near Baja. I was rooting for Cassie's efforts to convince the owners of a large, soon-to-be-built resort to include a sanctuary to protect the vaquitas. The romance was predictable, as was the novel's outcome. I was disappointed with the number of typos and other grammatical errors, which lowered my star rating.

In the four years since this book was written the vaquita have gone from “less than 100” to less than 10. This is so sad.
The book itself was lovely. A biologist, promoting a habitat to help save the vaquita porpoise, meets the developer of the new resort which has decided not to support the habitat. It is quite a gentle story, but engaging nonetheless. I seem, though,to have missed the whole section on Alex’s having been hurt at sea, as described in the blurb here (?!).
Some editing errors present.

Cindy Caldwell has given us a well written story with an environmental awareness. I love Cassie’s passion for her vaquita porpoises. Alex has passion for his family’s business even if he doesn’t understand his mom’s stand on no refuge for the vaquitas. The characters are well developed and the story line has more than a few surprises. I totally enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one.

Cassie is fighting for a sanctuary for porpoises, no not dolphins, when she meets Alex. During their first meeting he saved her life. But Alex is the CEO of the company that is destroying her dream. The first days together are as a dream come true both when they discover who the other is ......
I really loved this story, the description of the nature will make you want to join them exploring. Can’t wait for the next book.

A poorly written novellette to be taken on airplanes. can finish before the plane lands and you won't care if you forget to carry it off the plane. HOWEVER, it does introduce the public to the plight of the vaquita and today's estimates are only 30 remain. So, regardless of the poor writing/editing it has value. For more in-depth information watch the Nat Geo film with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Lovely read

So enjoyed the information on the sanctuary for the local wildlife. We can have modern facilities but need to always protect the wildlife while doing so. Nice read about family relations and how important they are.

Sweet story

A sweet story. Cassie is determined to save the Vaquita from extinction when a resort is being designed in Baja. Alex is trying to prove he is fit to be CEO and build a beautiful eco-friendly resort. Falling in love was not part of the plan

Intriguing story about the importance of saving a species that were becoming extinct. It also talked about a past the way some generations believe.

Summer Sand, Save the Porpoises, Meet a Guy

A fun beach read, but a little predictable. I know about sting rays, how to avoid them. Yummy Mexican food!

Lovely light read

This was a nice light romance story with environmental protection thrown in. Nothing deeper than saving endangered porpoises from resort development.
