When my French Bulldog gets sick during an unexpected snow storm, the town’s new veterinarian offers to come to my secluded cabin to check on my ailing pooch.
Expecting a middle-aged woman, I’m shocked when the most stunning beauty I’ve ever seen knocks on my front door.
One look at the curvy beauty and my brain cells go on strike.
Like an idiot, I let my mouth run away without consulting my mind and I end up insulting her.
Luckily for me, the weather cooperates and makes it impossible for her to leave.
I plan to use the time wisely. Winning over the girl who stole my heart won’t be easy, but I’ll do whatever it takes to convince her to forget my Chilly Reception and take a chance on forever with me.
The days in Polar Bear, Alaska, are short and chilly. And the nights. Well, they’re long and frigid. The small, isolated town known for its yearly icy swim is overflowing with hunky, lonely men. These Mountain Men are waiting for their special soulmate to come along and heat things up.
Chilly Reception is the first book in the Polar Bear, Alaska series. It is a series of nine books, each by a different author. This one is by Loni Ree and it is my first book by her.
Rand Ryland is a successful author and a bit of an introvert. He lives in his cabin outside of Polar Bear, Alaska. He lives with his spoiled little French Bulldog, Odin. When Odin gets suddenly ill, in a panic, he calls the new vet in Polar Bear who agrees to come up to his cabin, not thinking about the terrible storm blowing in.
Devin has only been in Polar Bear for a few months since she took over the veterinary practice. She didn’t even think about the dangerous roads when the panicked man called about his sick dog.
As soon as these two see each other, it’s instant lust. The snow makes sure that Devin won’t be able to leave for a few days and Rand is dedicated to making her his while she is stuck there.
While this was a super sweet and sexy story, something just didn’t work for me. I can’t really put my finger on what it was. It kind of jumped around a little bit and as much as I wanted to, I just didn’t feel any connection to the characters. There was no swooning. It was a very quick read but just okay for me.
Welcome to Polar Bear Alaska and get ready to heat up with Rand and Devin. Rand is a famous author that has moved from the hustle and bustle of the city to rural Alaska. It is just him, his thoughts and his cute bulldog Odin. Devin is the new town vet. She is a former big city girl that has just made her home in Polar Bear Alaska. She has heard rumors of the mysterious author on the mountain but has never had the pleasure of meeting him. So, when she gets a call that her furry patient is ill, now seems like the best time to make a house call and meet those two men! This is an instant attraction that knocks them both off kilter and takes them more than by surprise. Neither one is expecting to get snowed in, but mother nature has other plans for this couple ! A quick, steamy read with Rand and Devin. ~~Michele McMullen ~~
I thought that this was a hot yet sweet book. I really like Rand and Devin together. These two get off to a really rocky start but neither of them can fight the intense feelings they have for each other. Thanks to fate bringing in a blizzard, these two are able to get through their initial introduction and able to get a really sweet HEA. I can't wait to see what Ms. Loni has has in store for us next! I would highly recommend this book and Ms. Loni as a must read author.

This is my first time reading this author and I thought the book was okay. My only issue with the story was that I just couldn’t connect with the two main characters at all. They just didn’t speak to me. Overall the story was cute and I’ll definitely give the next book a try. Hopefully we’ll see a better result.
'Chilly Reception' by Loni Ree is the first book in the multi-author series 'Polar Bear, Alaska' and tells the story of Devin, a veterinarian, and Rand, a famous author. Rand moved to Polar Bear, Alaska from Florida two years ago after his mystery book hit the best seller list and he got inundated with fans showing up at his home. He had only planned to stay a few months but really liked the solitude and tranquility. Devin moved to Polar Bear four months ago to take over the vet practice. She used to live in the desert so this is the first time she's experiencing snow to such an extent. Rand's French Bulldog, Odin, is sick and has him worried. He rang the emergency number for the vet and the service said she would be there soon. Devin can not believe how bad the snow has gotten on the way to Rand's house, she hopes she gets there in one piece.
When Rand opens the door and sees Devin he snaps at her for driving in that weather while noticing how gorgeous she is. Devin never realized that the author was so built and attractive. Rand apologies to Devin for snapping at her and showed her Odin. Luckily, there was nothing seriously wrong with Odin and Rand felt bad about making Devin drive in that weather for nothing. Devin said that it was OK, it's better to be safe than sorry but she had better get going. However there is no way there was no way that Rand was going to let her drive in that weather and insisted that she stayed. Now he just has to figure out a way to keep her there permanently.
Ms. Ree has written an engaging and charming Christmas romance with likable characters. The chemistry between Devin and Rand is sizzling. Odin was an interesting twist as a Cupid. The story has laughs, passion, and plenty of steam. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes some Christmas with their romance.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.
I felt like the title of this book should have been Inappropriate Reception instead of Chilly Reception Rand has a little French bulldog, Odin that becomes ill, worried he calls the only vet in town Dr Devin Hughes. Her service promises she will come by to see Odin soon, a bad storm is making the trip out to Rand’s remote cabin difficult. When she arrives he opens the door and immediately says: “Why the hell are you out in this fucking storm?” he growls. “I should spank your ass for being so reckless.” See inappropriate, who tells a stranger that they will ‘spank their ass’? In an established relationship I find it sexy when the hero says it but to a woman you’ve never met, no. He apologizes and his excuse is he thought she would be an older woman, so what, he would not have been concerned for an older woman’s safety but a hot young thing he’s worried about? Devin stays professional and brushes his apology off, since we’ll, he’s gorgeous, and treats Odin. The bad weather causes her to have to stay the night, Rand gives her the guest room, she does catch him masturbating while saying her name that night. They give into their attraction and have sexy times, I love yous are said. Once the roads get cleared Rand isn’t ready for her to leave so they divide their time between her house and his. A pregnancy, a wedding, and an epilogue five years later with a daughter and Devin pregnant again.

Loni Ree joins the multi-author Polar Bear, Alaska series with Chilly Reception, an absolutely wonderful steamy short instalove romance. Rand is an author who has escaped to the mountains near Polar Bear, Alaska for solitude. When his French bulldog Odin gets sick, he puts a call into the new vet in town. Devin, a young blonde bombshell, is still adjusting to the move from Arizona to Alaska after taking over the lone vet practice in Polar Bear, and meets Rand for the first time when she makes a house call to check in on Odin. From the moment Rand opens his front door to Devin, he knows she is meant to be his - and when a blizzard makes leaving impossible, he plans on using the time they are stuck together to prove it to her. This is a high-heat, low-drama, entertaining quick read that will certainly warm up your holidays!

Rand used to be a English teacher before his writing career took off, the notoriety made him move somewhere remote. He and his French bulldog live in Polar Bear Alaska. When his little dog is sick, he calls the new vet's service and is told she will come to him. It is the start of a big snow storm, when the doctor arrives, he is kind of rude all because she stirs something in him.
Devin is a little surprised by the grumpy reception, but she is her to check out her furry patient, not his hot owner. The snow really comes down while she is there and she ends having to stay with them for a couple days until the roads are cleared.
That should be plenty of time for Rand to convince the cute doctor to be his.

First things first; I like the cover of this book! Chilly reception is a novella in the ‘’polar bear, Alaska’’ collection. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Rand is a successful yet reclusive author living in Alaska. When his dog gets sick he doesn’t expect to find love with the new vet. The chemistry between Devin and Rand is clear to see and I loved them together. I thought they were perfect for one another. I liked the ending and the epilogue for this story. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.
Her first snow. Great book. Rand has a sick dog on his hands so he puts in a call to the vet he uses. When Devin arrives he doesn’t give her the best welcome because he’s floored by her beauty. As she tends to his spoiled pooch the snowstorm gets worse Rand refuses to let her drive back to town. They end up stranded for a while and get to know each other. They begin to fall in love but, what happens when the roads are clear and Devin can leave? Will they find a way to make the distance work? Come play in the snow to see.

I really liked this short instalove story. It was entertaining and enjoyable while being pretty sweet. The characters were interesting and likable. Odin was a funny dog. He seemed to understand what was going on between Rand and Devin. Rand's initial reaction to seeing Devin cracked me up as did Devin's reaction to Rand. Their relationship develops super quickly. There wasn't any real drama or angst which was nice. Devin was sweet. Rand was protective, possessive, and a big softy. I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.

This short and steamy book introduces us to the world of Polar Bear, Alaska and characters Rand and Devin. Rand is an author who prefers the quiet and solitude of Alaska. Devin is the new town vet and former city girl. When Rand’s dog gets sick, she makes a house call to check on him and ends up snowed in. When they first meet he is less than welcoming but he quickly warms up to the curvy doctor. Things get really steamy the more time they spend together. So what will happen when the snow melts and Devin is able to go home?

Rand is a writer up in the mountains to get ways from everything, when his dog gets sick, he contacts the town's vet. Devin is fairly new in town, just taken over the vet practice. When she gets a call, Devin heads up to the mountain to check on the patient, only to get trapped by the owner. Rand has lived by himself for a while, so when he saw Devin, she was not what he was expecting.
This is a hot and amazing story that is perfect for the holidays or just when you need to escape. Rand and Devin have an electric chemistry that pulls you in and wraps around your heart from the first line.

Odin the dog (and his upset stomach) deserves a lot of credit for bringing Rand, the recluse author and Devin, the veterinarian together. Devin may have arrived to care for the dog, but she stays for the man. Nothing like a snow storm to set up two lonely people for seduction and love.
Rand is my favorite kind of book boyfriend. He’s a grumpy, solitary alpha male who turns into a mush-mush every time he sees his girl. Did I mention that he’s hot too?
I enjoyed this instalove romance as I always do when I read Loni’s books.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Rand and Devin are brought together by Odin and Mother Nature. Neither are natives of Alaska but find that it suits them. She is the new vet that comes to treat Odin when he gets sick. Her mistake was that she misjudged the weather. That mistake changed everything for them because love is hotter than ever in Polar Bear. I enjoyed the story and characters. Plenty of laughs, chemistry and love

What started as a chilly reception quickly turned into a hot romance that is sure to warm you up fast and satisfy all your insta love needs. Rand & Devin had such intense chemistry right away and we did not have to wait long at all for them to give into their need for each other. This was such a steamy story you can read in no time, there is an epilogue five years out, and there’s an adorable pup named Odin who was basically the one to get Rand & Devin together!
I really enjoyed reading the love story between Rand (an author) and Devlin (the town vet). Oh can't forget Odin, the dog that brought them together. Rand had to call the vet because Odin was sick and vomiting. Devlin drove in a snowstorm to check the dog. She decides he had eaten something and his stomach was getting rid of it. Due to the storm, she gets snow in. We all know where that is leading (lol). It's actually a sweet love story. If you read the book, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. Written by Cindy :)
Awesome story. This is a short sweet story that kept my attention until it was done. Rand has a French Bull Dog who gets sick. He calls the new vet and Devin drives in the snowstorm to check on the dog. Rand opens the door to an angel but has to apologize for his chilly remark. He is so glad that Devin gets snowed in with him cause he's ready to make her his in every way he can. Steamy alpha male is ready to start a family and he's keeping Devin busy making that family. Who knew a spoiled French Bulldog was such an effective matchmaker! He times his "illness" to perfection to draw Devin in just as the snowstorm begins and strands her in Rand's cabin! This is a funny, flirty, feisty and freezing visit to Alaska, but thankfully Rand eventually manages to thaw Devin's icy walls and secure her heart. I enjoyed this short escape to Polar Bear and look forward to meeting more of the growly, possessive guys who call it home. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I like the potential of the story. I think it needs to be expanded, switch around a few sentences and then republished. It has great bones - but at one point it felt like the story was being rushed. It felt like one hearing the "this-is-how-we-met" story: major check points that led to them getting married, with several stories being detailed to make it sound like we were still READING a STORY and not a checklist. I hope this gets a revisit by the author and republished after expanding and editing.
Chilly Reception is a delightful InstaLove romance read! Rand is a sexy, tatted author and devoted dog dad. Devin is the town vet. A freak snowstorm and a sick pup bring the two together and their off the charts chemistry promises to keep them warm through the storm. A quick and easy, read in one sitting romance. I’m giving Chilly Reception the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
This was a wonderful story and a fabulous introduction to Polar Bear, Alaska. I can’t wait for more! Rand was sweet and sexy and a little gruff (in a very hot way!!) Devin was beautiful and caring. Brought together in a snow storm by the lovely dog Odin they were a wonderful match! Instalove, instalust and a whole lot of HEA

I just love their first interaction and what Rand says to Devin. This was such a sweet and fantastic book. I could not help but fall in love with these characters and Odin. Destiny and a poor sick puppy along with a snow storm brought them together. They were ment to be. Both felt Instant chemistry and attraction towards the other. Rand knows he will do everything he can to make Devin his forever.
This quick read has protective mothers, new starts, a sick pet, a chilly reception, best intentions and lots of snow which forces two people to spend time together. I liked that both of them were strong characters, that they had believable connection and chemistry and I enjoyed seeing them together.

An adorable little dog brings Devin and Rands first meeting during a monster snowstorm. A sweet storyline with great characters and a Frenchie with personality. Enjoyed this quick steamy romance that goes off without a hitch when stuck in beautiful setting in Polar Bear, Alaska. Loved the ending as Rand is reminded of his first impression when meeting Devin.

I can read an Insta love book for the most part on occasion. This one had too any things going against it. The story was very short, I read it in under two hours kinda short. The I love you was in the first few chapters, that is a bit much for me. Too short for me to be invested in the characters and not believable, borderline laughable. I am one and done here.
This was a quick steamy holiday read. I enjoyed the characters and seeing where the story took them. The plot was short, sweet, and to the point. The short story was well crafted and a great break from chaos that is the holiday season.
Five out of five stars.

The Chilly Reception soon heats up. Fir such a short story it felt like most of their life is written here. There have been jumps in time but the story still flows smoothly. The author has anticipated the readers quests to know their life after falling in love.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Rand is thrown by how young the new vet is when she comes out to check on his dog. However this passes quick. It is love at first sight for Rand and Devin aided by a storm and being stuck in the cabin for a few days. Time to get to know each other only makes their love grow.
