When a career-ending injury sends NFL-player Deshaud Pierce into a downward spiral, his friend Grayson Edwards is the person on whom he relies. Deshaud bounces back, starting up his own talent agency, and he is happy to do a favor for his friend Grayson when he asks him to give his girlfriend Kendra Knox a job at the Pierce Agency. Grayson and Kendra’s relationship crumbles, but Kendra flourishes in her position.
It seems that nothing will stop her from building the life of her dreams, until it all turns into a nightmare. Someone is leaving notes and gifts for her and declaring his undying love with every token of his affection. He already has access to her home, but he also wants access to her heart. Deshaud leaps into action, once he finds out that his star employee is in danger. In his effort to protect her, he finds it harder and harder to think of her as “just” an employee or his friend’s ex. He’s starting to see his future in her.
Will Deshaud and Kendra’s bond survive, or will the looming threat put an end to their story before it truly begins?
Whew Chil, I need a bottle of wine! Can't wait to get home from work🤦🏾🤣
Queen A.S. Wilson had to have been stressed tf out writing Kendra story cause Bay-be there were sooo many times I wants to reach through this tablet and slap the sugar honey ice tea out of her and tell her to get a damn clue😔. Grayson was a P.O.S. spoiled entitled narcissistic f'boy who wanted to control everybody around him. Although they waited late asf to cut the cord, he needed that reality check from his parents. I loved, loved, loved Deshaud fine sexy BDE a**😍!!! That man was about his business and protecting what he deemed belonged to him. He really went above and beyond to try and ensure that Kendra was safe. The man practically moved in just to ensure that she was comfortable as well as safe. 82% in and I was over Kendra and really wanted to slap tf out of her dumb a**🙄😒. Sorry not Sorry, cause I don't usually feel this way about our main female characters, but dammit man🤦🏾😔. On her quest to feel independent with her "I'm not letting another man control me" attitude, she did what we as women do and boxed Deshuad in w/that f'boy Grayson. SMDH😔. Neicey was a real one and had no problem calling Kendra on her ish. I pegged the stalker from go, but then Grayson started to just pop up everywhere she was, so I'm like "maybe you're wrong this time". Nope, idk why my second choice just screamed stalker. It could've been him mysteriously popping up right when her car broke down. Or the way he seemed to just pop up all the time pretending to just be assisting her. Now the book did start off kind of slow, but it was so worth it in the end❤
I enjoyed the plot of this story but I felt like it could have been organized better. Kendra was a strong female character, which I like, but I was confused at her level of push back when it came to handling her stalker situation and Deshaud. We don't find out till later in the story that the reason she is so resistant to being with him is a product of Grayson's treatment of her and the issue she faced in college. Without that context she just seemed mean, pigheaded, and annoying. I felt like that information would have made more sense being introduced in the beginning and allowed readers to like her more because they understand her pain. I was annoyed with her most of the story and didn't care for how she was behaving because I was missing that information. I also would have liked a little more information on Dean. He seemed to just pop up and have a storyline, he should have been included more in the story if he was going to play a role in the end. I enjoy this author so I will continue to read her work but this story was missing a few key items that would have made it amazing.
Ms. Wilson I have to start this review just like this, the way you executed the suspense in this book was genius. I was debating between a couple of people who was behind the stalking. It was one of the ones I thought. Deshaud and Kendra was kindred souls all the way down to their careers. They had so many similarities along with the chemistry they were bound to be together. I was glad Deshaud was able to restore love in Kendra again. She needed a real man in her life.
This was a great read, I most definitely recommend it. I loved the relationship Deshaud had with his aunt. She was his mother figure. I also loved how Deshaud biological mother wanted to heal and build a relationship with him. Ms. Wilson did well in creating a dope storyline, character development and climax. She made sure to get rid of any ground zero that was of no substance.
The story wasn't terrible, but it lacked passion and real character development. The main character was Kendra, but we were fed bits and pieces of who she was. She was an artist that abandoned her dream for stability, but never once shared this with the man she loved? It was odd. Then she was so nonchalant with the way she handled the stalker and her reasoning for that came out of left field. We were supposed to understand her drive, but this story did not make me buy into Kendra as a person. Rashaud was likeable, driven, protective, and family orientated. He was drawn to Kendra, but tried to fight it because their history was complicated. Rashaud was an ex football player and wasn't really looking for a relationship until....Kendra.
There were some good moments as they decided to take their relationship to the next level. It was also weird because story line was odd. The reader doesn't really get a chance to fall in love with the main characters. It lacked overall cohesiveness.
All Kendra wanted was to become the best talent agent she can be and when she is given a chance by Deshaud, she does just that. The more time Deshaud got to know Kendra he started to have feelings, but wouldn't act on them because she used to date his friend, but when Kendra needed help, Deshaud was there. Sharing their personal spaces with each other, the feelings grew stronger and they finally acted on them. Kendra was determined to not depend on anyone but herself because of a past relationship, but Deshaud wouldn't give up. I really enjoyed this book about them Kendra was stubborn at times and drove me crazy, but when she finally realized Deshaud was what she needed. I wanted more and I would love a book about Neicy. Great read!!!
Read chapters one and two. Immediately figured out who the stalker was. Used the search tool to search the word “stalker”. Skipped to the last chapter. Confirmed the stalker was who I thought. Read the first two paragraphs of the epilogue. Then I was done. This book didn’t capture my attention at all. But I encourage the writer to keep on writing! Good luck on your future works!!
This book was good. I kept wanting to know who Kendra stalker was. I kind of figured it out. DeShaud helped Kendra become independent. Along the way they started feeling each other. Didn't like her ex Grayson. He was a user. Happy Kendra and DeShaud are a couple. We need a book about Niecey.
OMG!!! This book was definitely a page turner. At some point everybody needs somebody but will they realize it before it’s too late. The suspense had me holding my breath to see what would happen next. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Listen, I was hooked from page 1! This love story gave me everything that I needed! I loved the suspense as I read as well! I loved reading about Kendra and Deshaud… if you love a good love story that’s gonna keep you on your toes then this is it!! I highly suggest you jump right on in and check it out!!
This story was a page turner Had a lot of twists and turns you didn't expect First time reading this author and won't be the last She wrote an exciting story full of action love and family support Very enjoyable read
Kendra was a tough cookie. Who knew what all she had been through was exactly what she needed to get through her present trouble? It was fun trying to figure out who the stalker was!
That stalking stuff was real creepy! Lol. I loved ho protective he was, she needed somebody like that. Her ex was trash and he was a trash friend!! They both won in the end
I'm glad I tried something new and picked a book by an author I never read before, great read. I read it now you read it and come up with your own personal experience cause I can't help you.
The unknown can be frightening, but it can also make you recognize what's deep inside. This story was a suspense from the beginning to the end. I was for sure it was Grayson, but you twisted that thang to the very end. What great read.
So glad Deshaud gave himself another chance at a relationship with his mom and so glad Kendra understood she does not have to do everything on her own and she deserves all the goodness of a man like Deshaud.
Whew!!! My stress levels towards the end were through the roof! I love a suspenseful plot and this one was very well written. Deshaud broke the code but in this case it was worth it.
I loved reading about Kendra and Deshaud! This book keep you trying to guess who the stalker was and although it was short, it didn’t seemed rushed at all.
I really enjoyed this read. I love a good mystery and a cute love story added in makes it even better. Great work and I'm looking forward to the next book!
From the first page I was all in. Kendra irked me about how she was handling that situation she had going on. I loved Deshaud for her. Definitely kept my attention the whole time.
Is this suspense romance? I’ve never read this kind before but I really liked it. Any romance novel where we actually get to see the characters date and enjoy each other’s company, I’m down for. I will say from the start, I couldn’t put this down. I had to have the next chapter, it kept me on the edge of my seat and I really liked Deshaud, so I wanted to see him get what he wanted. I liked Kendra too, but she is the poster child for the fact that the idea of the “ strong, independent, black woman” is a toxic ideal. I gave this 4 stars because the ending and the epilogue didn’t answer all my questions, and it moved a little too fast. I wanted to know more about what happened with the situation with Dean, but overall I’m happy the way it ended.
I enjoyed reading On My Own and Deshaud. However I just did not care for Kendra. Her lack of action in light of being stalked is ridiculous! Someone popping up in your home at will and you don’t change your locks immediately! Seriously?!?!
The world is full people like Grayson. People who help others and constantly throwing it in their face what they did for them. He was pitiful.
Niecy was a true sister-friend to Kendra. And would love to know her story.
