From USA Today bestselling author Glynnis Campbell...A beautiful and deadly warrior lass tracks down a savage Highlander and targets him for assassination, until she learns he's not the villain he seems, but a noble laird desperate to win back both his tormented clan and her precious heart.

After a Highlander savagely attacks her clan, mysterious and elusive Feiyan la Nuit knows she is the only warrior lass with the skills to track down the villain—and the nerve to assassinate him. But when she flinches at coldblooded murder, he seizes the advantage, unmasking her and taking her hostage. The son of a laird, Dougal mac Darragh never intended to wage war with the infamous Rivenlochs, nor is he the kind of man to hurt a lass, but now his only hope to keep his clan safe is to ransom his beautiful captive. Soon a brutal secret comes to light, one that threatens both their clans, and they discover that only by joining forces—and hearts—in a desperate battle will they truly prove that love conquers all.

‘Bride of Mist’ by Glynnis Campbell is the third installment of ‘The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch’ series. This book, set in 12th century Scotland, features Feiyan la Nuit and Dougal mac Darragh.

Feiyan sets out to assassinate Dougal, believing he is a ruthless murderer. From the moment the two have their first encounter, the story just takes off. Nothing is as it seems; the lies and betrayals lead straight to battle. This book was action packed and was never ‘slow going’. Both Feiyan and Dougal are strong characters whose budding relationship was so fun to read about!

This was the first book I’ve read by Glynnis Campbell, and I truly enjoyed every last page. This book can be read as a stand alone, however there is no doubt I will go back and read the first two books.

A solid 5 Star book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Book: Bride of Mist
By Glynnis Campbell

Series: The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch, Book Three

Overall Book Review Rating: 5 Stars

Blog Review Rating: 5 Saltire Flags

A decade ago, the depraved and resentful teenage brothers, Fergus and Morris mac Giric were exiled from their clan. It was for the horrific beating of an innocent ten year old orphan, Colban ( Bride of Ice) who was under Laird’s protection. This crime was reported by the laird’s son Morgan, (Bride of Fire). This was all due to their petty jealousy of Colban’s close friendship with the Laird’s son, which would remain true through adulthood. As even in their future as men, Colban will become Morgan’s right hand who will eventually be the mac Giric Laird. Now since these two black hearted brothers were exiled from the clan forever, the brothers plan to get their revenge one day and destroy Moran mac Giric, this also includes the entire mac Giric clan! So to hide their true identity they now call themselves the Fortanach brothers planning to take whatever they desire whenever they can!

Dougal mac Darragh does not know why his father made his brother the Laird. As his brother Gaufrid is useless he can’t read, do the accounts and knows nothing about leading a clan! Now it seems Gaufrid has put a price on his own brother’s head! This mac Darragh Laird also enjoys drinking spirits, bullying people, seducing innocents and keeping company with those depraved Fortanach brothers! Fergus and Morris who were definitely a bad influence, not that his useless brother needs much help in that area, yet they lead him further down the black hole of dishonor, debauchery, and destruction! As they only gamble, cheat, steal, fight, womanize and abuse clan members every chance they get! Plus everyone from villagers to servants fear their Laird he wasn’t a man to honor and protect his clan as he should!

Soon the Fortanach brothers fabricate a story, leaving false evidence that makes it look like the mac Giric clan did this horrifying crime! When Dougal sees his entire village was slaughtered in the most diabolical and atrocious way possible he goes totally Viking bezerk with insane anger! He runs over everyone in his path, making him go bezerk thinking it was the mac Giric clan not realizing it was the Rivenloch Warriors! When he realizes his mistake, as he realizes he has just murdered a lass thinking her a man. He is now filled with so much guilt and remorse feeling like a depraved monster as he would never ever raise his hand to any woman ever! Had he known she was a woman he would of backed away immediately -of this he has no doubt! However, things are not the way Dougal thinks and he is filled with so much hatred toward himself he is not thinking straight. This includes not realizing the lass he thinks he just killed that her tracker and weapons expert cousin is now following him!

Feiyan la Nuitfey has murder on her mind! She is the smallest of the Rivenloch maiden warriors, and is used to going unnoticed which makes her a grander tracker and spy. In addition she has an arsenal of weapons on her person which is like a second skin to her. However she has a difficult time completing this task, as she even kills her prey with honor! Dougal has very little options, he soon realizes his mistake so he must take Feiyan and hold her for ransom as his captive as it’s the only way to save his clan.

For Feiyan she delayed killing him not because he is the bonniest lad she has ever seen in her whole entire life! The true reason is she doesn’t understand him as his personality is a total contradiction! Dougal mac Darragh seems to be a kind, caring and honorable man, not the hardened-cutthroat she was expecting which is very confusing to Feiyan. Dougal soon realizes he has very little options and soon realizes his mistake. Realizing he must take Feiyan and hold her for ransom as his captive. It is the only way to keep his clan safe. Eventually Feiyan realizes the truth and why he isn’t a mass cutthroat at all, but a braw, honorable, caring and protective man with a broken heart. They soon realize they have to remain on the same side of the battle to win this war with their true enemy, not only the Rivenloch’s but her cousin’s husbands of the mac Giric clan too, who is the true target! Yes during this time two hearts open, but is it a short lived fleeting love or one that will last forever? Read and discover the fates of Feiyan la Nuit and Dougal mac Darragh!

Glynnis Campbell pens another riveting, page turning, action packed, romantic-adventure, that kept me up late into the night. This one is filled with so much betrayal , deception and revenge, my head was spinning! Again Campbell’s storytelling ability just blew me away, with so many twists and turns that had me gasping with delight, yet never knowing what was about to happen as I turned each page! Again she kept her brilliant charm and wit in the story, something I have learned to recognize over the years reading her marvelous books. A book I absolutely highly recommend as she truly is a rockstar author!

This is a thrilling, fast paced story of correcting the wrong and learning the truth. Not going on first assumptions and making quick decisions. We learn in the introduction who the two brothers were who almost killed Colban from a previous book.
Feiyan la Nuit is the smallest of three cousins. She usually goes unnoticed by all. Still, she is a warrior of Rivenloch. She has special knowledge of exotic blades and special weapons.
When a crazed man enters a friendly tournament and start savagely wounding and slashing everything in his path. After he flees, Feiyan knows she must go after him and kill him in the name of her clan. The three cousins usually always go together, but now two have husbands and other duty.
She knows she must prove herself to her people and do this alone.
Dougal mac Darragh is son of the late laird of clan Mac Darragh but his father made his brother Gaufrid the laird. Why ?? he can't figure out, Gaufrid is a horrible laid, cares nothing about the people and follows two brothers in everything they say. When he finds a horrible act against his clan, he leaves in a mad dash to punish the one responsible.
Well now things really heat up, there is so much unknown to either Daugal or Feiyan. Lots of misunderstanding on both sides. While she tracks him, and he thinks he knows what happen both are so wrong. As they try to kill the other secrets come out and plots of evil.
Oh, what a great fast pace story of right and wrong , evil and good and the characters are great.
You will never forget Urramach the Destrier !!
There is so much going on in this book, telling anything else would ruin the story. You need to get a copy to see how everything happens and why and in which order. The ending will leave you speak-less. Wow what a story. I hope you grab a copy and get started. All the books in this series are wonderful and can be read as standalone.
I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it....

Bride of Mist by Glynis Campbell
This story is Feiyan’s and Dougal’s. Dougal is a son of the previous laird but for some reason his father made his brother Gaufrid the laird. During the introduction you meet the two people who hurt Colban and were exiled from their clan. These two became stalwart friends with Gaufrid. He’s a terrible laird who rules with directions from the two brothers and he’s a drunken sot. They have plans of their own. The two brothers tell a tale of death and destruction of a nearby village naming The Mac Girac clan as the guilty party. Dougal rides out to the village and is horrified by the senseless deaths of the entire village and rides out to avenge them and attacks the Rivenlochs as he believes it’s the hold of the Mac Giracs as he has been told. He comes at them during a mock competition and attacks while the other party has blunted swords for their mock battle and are unprepared for his swift brutal attack. Dougal has a regular sword and during his blind rage attack believes he killed one of the warrior maids. He’s shocked and plagued by horror at the fact he killed a lass. He flees and leaves behind evidence of his identity. Feiyan was horrified seeing her cousin felled by his blade. The fact that her cousin almost died and she swears to avenge her and sneaks out chasing his trail. She’s determined to kill him for what happened and make a name for herself in the clan. She feels invisible and not worth much to her clan. I’ll stop telling you the story but soooo good. I love seeing the sparring and back and forth between the main characters and how the rest of the story turns out. My favorite in this series so far. Pick up your copy and read! Soooo looking forward to next installment in this series. Brava Glynnis!

Brilliant. The author is getting better with her descriptions of fights etc.

This is the best yet. The twists and turns of the clans, the fight scenes and being able to imagine it all with the details that are given on the pages. There were a few typing errors, but if you speed read you would 't notice. Brilliant. Cannot wait to read the next book.

Bride of Mist by Glynnis Cambell is a thrilling tale that was simply irresistible. This is book 3 in The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch series. She was a bonny, wee thing, with chestnut hair and shimmering silver eyes. But Feiyan was no pushover. Agility, evasiveness, speed, and flexibility served her well as an assassin and she meant to use them against the monster Dougal mac Darragh. But life is messy and things don’t always go as planned. The skillful character development and the intriguing, page turning plot, made this a book that I simply devoured. Glynnis weaves together conniving fools, massacre, romance and revenge with an awesome cast of characters in a tale that will keep you captive. I am looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Dougal Mac Darragh is so horrified by what he found in the village,  he rides off to enact vengeance. Our hero has a tendency to act first and think later.  That can easily get him into more trouble than he expects.

Feiyan la Nuit is one of the warrior maidens of Rivenloch.  She has very special fighting skills,  with weapons or without. When a berserk warrior invades a peaceful melee, then flees,  she goes after him.

Our incredible heroine is someone we all wish we could be.

This historical romance has more action and danger than most.  It's part of a great series.  The characters are unusual and very interesting. It's very easy to fall in love with them all. Each book can be read on it's own,  but the series is best read in order.

I loved it.

I love this series with strong warrior women and the men who capture their hearts. This is Feiyan’s story who is the third of the three warrior maid cousins. She is trained in the Asian arts of fighting and is supposed to be the most clear headed of the three. Dougal is a protector of the weak and theClan Laird’s brother. A terrible incident brings these two into each other’s lives. They story is brilliant in the way both characters develop. The cat and mouse game they play as they try to outsmart and protect each other was equal parts sweet and funny. The villains got what was coming to them and the couple got started on their happily ever after.

From the beginning, there is action and drama in this book. Dougal has his own battles to fight, while Feiyan brings her own set of vengeance against him. From the start, they are enemies, and yet, they are still attracted to each other. Through several trials, their love prevails. This story is another must read in this series. Well-written with great characters and even a little bit of humor, it kept me intrigued to find out what happens next.

Seeking vengeance, they found love

I really enjoy reading about the fierce warrior maids and their escapades that lead to love. The back and forth between assassin and hostage was fun. I thought the reassurances of each to the other about the things that caused the most self confidence issues, failing his clan and being the villain for him and being invisible for her, was poignant.

This is the third book in the series and wow just wow. If you enjoy strong female characters and historical fiction you’ll enjoy this series. She set out for revenge but ends up losing her heart to her target instead. I always look forward to reading the newest books from this author. Her story telling is amazing and her characters come to life as you read.

Thrilling fast paced medieval adventure novel where the heroine has amazing warrior skills and attempts to save the man she loves.

I reread this book in May 2023 because another book said that minor characters from this book are involved.

Fantastic

This last story in the series kept in suspence from beginning to the end. I would call this story a thriller. I couldn't put it down and read it one day. It had a lot humor in it which I enjoyed. Can't for Geller's story.

The Bride of Mist held more insight into the main characters. You really get more of both side of their psoralen qualities. The slow realization of their feelings for each other gave depth to their romance. I loved this book.

Kill or love

I enjoyed how the cousins were so different from one another yet so much the same. Feiyan didn’t know she was seen by anyone until Dougal. Dougal was intent on saving everyone until he needed saving.

his book is simply impossible to read. The heroine is the same arrogant fool as her cousin Jennifer. It all started with the hero causing a bloody mess at a peaceful knightly tournament, almost killing Hallie’s young brother, and even if it weren’t for her whole family intervening. And I believe that there is no justification for this; real warriors would send an entire army in pursuit. But this would be if we were reading a serious historical novel, and not a parody of it. And what we see is that one young upstart girl goes in pursuit without permission, who is convinced that she is the “most cold-blooded” of the sisters, that she will easily kill, etc. It amazes me why this young girl was taught military equipment and given weapons in her hands, because only conceit is in her head (like her upstart sister Jennifer), but in reality she is just as indecisive, unsure of herself and generally the same child, like Isabel. Let her stage plays with her and bat her eyes.
As a result, instead of decisive revenge, we see: “He is so young and handsome, let him wake up and then I will definitely kill him,” “Now I will eat his trout and then I will gain strength and I will definitely kill him,” “I have various weapons in my bins.” (and a listing of the entire arsenal) so I’ll kill him,” “Well, okay, I’ll follow him to the hotel and there he’ll try to rape me and I’ll kill him,” “Oh, he doesn’t rape, well then I’ll seduce him, and then when he attacks me I'll kill him" etc. in the same style. The heroine reminded me not of a warrior, but of a pathetic stray puppy who chases the first man who caresses him. And not only for me was she a jerk, the hero also perceived her as an unfortunate tramp who was ready to steal, kill or sell herself for food and decided to make her the object of his charity.
I didn't read further. This story is clearly not about a woman warrior, and certainly not about a “bloodthirsty and cold-blooded killer,” and the fact that the heroine is in illusions about herself is sad.

An extremely well-written Scottish historical book about the brother of a new self-serving laird, Dougal, who goes out to revenge the burning of a nearby village. Sadly, the culprits leave evidence blaming another clan belonging to Feiyon. Causing a row within, as a warrior she trails him for revenge, however is unable to kill him when the opportunity arises. Together, they seek out the true culprits gradually evolving from an enemy status to lovers. As with most Scottish historical novels, there is much gore and steaminess. Although the plot is relatively simple, the excellent descriptive writing keeps a reader mesmerized.

This was a great read, although I think the second half was more exciting than the first half. The hero, Dougal, was a true hero--noble, virtuous, kind, and generous. And of course strong and handsome. The heroine, Feiyan, was not your typical heroine. Half the time she was saving Dougal from death, sometimes from death at her own hand. Well-written, engaging, and at times poignant, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
