An English translation of university lectures (1930-1945) that give a tightly formulated introduction to Calvinist philosophy. Translated by John H. Kok. Introduction by Anthony Tol. Preface by Calvin Seerveld
About a thousand times easier to understand than Dooyeweerd, but for the gain in clarity and brevity, there is a loss in penetrating insight. I think it is a helpful introductory exposition to the theory of the modal law spheres, amongst other things, and the schematic diagrams of the horizontal and vertical relations are nice. But I find myself missing some motivation and depth as I read. Perhaps it is unfair to compare Vollenhoven's introductory notes to Dooyeweerd's magnum opus. Doesn't change the overall impression.
