If you like your romantic suspense fast-paced and laced with humor, try award-winning author Jennifer Skully. Jennifer adores quirky characters. The whackier the better! And you’ll find a whole cast of them in each and every Jennifer Skully book. Of course, being in the same body with alter ego Jasmine Haynes, she doesn’t let you down on the hot, sexy love scenes either.
After a trio of disappointments Rose's world falls apart. A new job creates a new lease on life. You'll love Rose and Decan's love story with Agnes as the ultimate matchmaker. The story is well written with great characters and a fun story line. Emotional and heartwarming. A great read that I read as an advance copy via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
It is not often that you read about a 50 year old caretaker heroine taking care of an 87 year old former teacher of a 55 year old hero. So, this grabbed my attention with that setup piquing my curiosity. What I had not heard of was ‘The Quiet Man’ movie that inspired the visit to Ireland.
Declan started out as the grumpy boss workaholic who doesn’t take time out to relax, but who is endearing because of his caring for his former teacher who is an adorable matchmaker.
Rose is sympathetic with her guilt and regret with her mother whom she cared for until she died. She had gone from divorce to the death of her mother to taking care of Agnes. When Agnes insists on visiting Ireland and bringing Rose and Declan with her, the romance soars.
There are steamy, sexy scenes as well as romantic ones. Being away from America allows them the freedom to explore the blossoming relationship. The descriptions of Ireland are entrancing. As they let down their guards and get past old wounds, they are drawn to each other. I love that it was more of a slow burn than insta-love.
Instead of Agnes being in the way or a prop, she is very much a part of the story. Proof that Rose and Declan have many years yet ahead of them if they are willing to take a second chance on love. I recommend this Once Again series which has featured mature couples in their 50s, which is not that common in the romance genre. With Gen-Xers in their early to mid-50s, and Boomers in their late 50s, there are readers who will welcome this mature romance series.
Note: I received an advance reading copy. This is my honest review. I own several e-books and books that I purchased by this author.
Declan & the 2 ladies in his life: sweet caring with steamy bits🛫🌄🛬
I've been enjoying this Jennifer Skully travel romance series and, like the earlier books, the main characters are middle-aged and grief has a major role in the actions of one of the leads. Skully is a dab hand at realistically portraying the hurt and guilt that often accompanies a loved one's passing.
Rose, a divorcee who lost her mother to Alzheimer's in the previous year, is hired by Declan to care for Agnes, his octogenarian tenant. Rose uses her time with Agnes as a do-over opportunity to make Agnes safe, comfortable and happy in ways Rose could not achieve with her mother. She's the consummate caregiver and hesitant about letting her attention stray from Agnes even when romance comes knocking and Agnes stirs the pot to promote the happiness of her two favorite people!
Declan gets more sympathetic chapter by chapter as he indulges Agnes' every whim and lets himself soften toward Rose. Their trip to Ireland is a highlight though I did find Agnes' bouncy enthusiasm a bit hard to align with her age and frailty.
It's a good story, steamy in bits, nostalgic at times, but filled with characters who deeply care about each other. The epilogue seemed to meander somewhat until getting to the happy conclusion but it did not ultimately dampen my enjoyment.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Honestly, boring and too fast paced for a guy who says “she’s my employee “ to letting a kiss transition from just a kiss to him touching her to her sucking his dick.
I would have enjoyed this more had there been more resistance and then a better transition to why he decided to go for it. I mean, it was understandable why Rose took that step to kiss him. She was in an incredibly vulnerable position, which he was good about but let it go way too far for where she was emotionally. A good man would have backed off and given her time. Not being cold and distance like he was at other times but just kind in general throughout their touring. He was CONSTANTLY saying that having any encounter with her that was more than professional was a bad idea and then there was a switch flipped that left readers in the dark.
Agnes was a delight. I loved her. Sex scenes well written. The champagne obsession that I also read through Book 2 of this series ( didn’t read Book 1) was an odd annoyance to me only because I kept thinking, I’m these woman’s age, champagne was a 20 year old’s drink. Everyone I know in 40s/50s drinks red wine.
Jennifer Skully is knocking it out of the park with her Once Again series. Book three, DANCING IN IRELAND, is just a delight.
Rose Christopher, divorced and still hurting from her husband’s desertion, becomes a caregiver to eighty-seven-year-old Agnes.
Declan Delaney hires Rose to care for his old schoolteacher and second mother. Declan married a much younger woman, and after their bitter divorce, he swore never to fall in love again—until he meets Rose. She’s beautiful, sweet, and caring with him and with Agnes. How can he not fall in love with her?
With a little matchmaking from Agnes, she gets them all to Ireland where romance is in the air. This book has it all—love, romance, and a matchmaking octogenarian.
Swept away, once again, with this new addition to the series. I love that the story is realistic. I love that the characters have a more mature thought process and have a great story to share with the bonus of a new chance to find love. Not even a boring sentence, entire story is full of heart and soul. Declan and Rose are perfect together and Agnes is feisty, all very lovable characters. I enjoyed the opportunity to visit Ireland through their adventure there. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to read and leave a review.
This will tug at your heartstrings... I won't outline the story itself as that's been adequately covered by the blurb & previous reviewers. I got so invested in this charming story I didn't even want to take a comfort break. Beautifully crafted, it was intimate & heart healing. I love Ireland & the charming folk, the men especially are gifted flirts, even when holding the hand of their cailin, (colleen). The three main characters were quite unique but so credible & relatable whilst still flawed like most of us. Highly recommended, I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.
Agnes was shrewd and ruthless in her matchmaking efforts, but Rose and Declan had scads of chemistry to enhance her efforts. I shed a few tears when Agnes asked Rose if she'd stay until the end. Bittersweet. I wish Rose wouldn't have been such a martyr and so guilt ridden. Poor Declan worked his backside off trying to win her over. What a man!!!! I liked that Agnes made it into the epilogue. She was too essential to miss. The end to a great series
Another great read. Finding love after you think you are too old and have nothing to offer. Finding that connection and exploring the possibilities only to deny that connection through guilt These authors are adept at creating wonderful characters facing real life, later life challenges and insecurities well done!!
A tad overdone on the sex for me - both my hubby and I are mobility challenged! But wonderful stories! I’ve read the Italian trip and the Irish trip and have the rest on my Kindle to keep on reading!! Please keep up the great story telling ladies!!
I am completely binge reading this series and this was the third book this week. Rose has been hired as a full time care-giver for 87 year old Agnes. Agnes is a feisty lady and is living in the home of her family friend Declan. Sparks fly between Declan and Rose as they head to Ireland with Agnes. Will they give in to their temptations, as Agnes hopes, or not? Fun and easy read!
I enjoyed this romance between Declan and Rose. It’s a wonderful story of two people getting a chance to find love again. Love these endearing characters especially the resident matchmaker, sweet crafty Agnes. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This novel was a fun read. The plot was endearing. The characters were people you would want to know. I liked that these were older adults who still had dreams.
Fantastic book. I was hooked from page one. Rose was such a great caretaker of Agnes. Really loved how much Declan cared for Agnes, she’s been like a grandmother to him. He gets talked into taking them to Ireland and it’s charming how close the three of them become. It gets so hot and steamy once Rose and Declan finally kissed. Does he really only want a fling? There’s a bit of heartbreak at one time. But thankfully there’s a happy ever after. It’s a really cute ending. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.
