A Real Cowboy for the Holidays by Stephanie Rowe Wyoming Rebels book 9. Contemporary western romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. Quentin is a Smokejumper. Was a smokejumper. A severe break and four surgeries later he goes home to the family ranch for Christmas, hiding from life decisions. At the local tree farm, he meets the woman he used to call Nerdy Girl and the two reconnect with the help of her son.
Emotional and heartwarming. These cowboys had a difficult upbringing and finding the right woman to love helps settle them into family life. They are renewed and rejuvenated and doing good in the community. The books are filled with love, support, happiness and some tears on the journey. Heart filled. I adore this series and these cowboys so much.
Excerpt: “Quintin knew how that worked. He'd long believed that if he'd been different, better, then his dad wouldn't have been such an a$$. He knew better now, but even so, the shadows still lingered. He wanted better for every kid on the entire planet. He wanted better for that little boy who had looked up at him with those dark brown eyes and held out his arms for the firewood today. He wanted to help Ethan.” Excerpt From A Real Cowboy for the Holidays by Stephanie Rowe
What can I say. Stephanie Rowe has done it again. This was such a fun story to read. I laughed and cried all at the right times. It was such a feel good story. The longing for love you didn’t think you could have but it found you. I truly love these HEA books. The holiday twist to it always adds to the joy and helps bring in the holiday spirt. I just wish this book could have been longer but I think I say that about all of her books. Wyoming Rebels are a fantastic series. This was just another wonderful book to add to the collection.
There's nothing I enjoy more than a story about someone who comes from a rough childhood, makes something of themselves, and then finds love. Add in the Christmas setting, and I’m half in love already.
Emma Rollins returns home with her son Ethan to help her parents with their failing Christmas tree farm. She's still a bit bruised and dented from her divorce, but she's not looking for a relationship, no matter how compelling and appealing Quintin Stockton may be.
Quintin knows the value of family, especially since he and his brothers had to rely on each other growing up. Fire jumping is his life and his reason for existing, so being sidelined with an injury doesn’t sit well with him, even if it means being home for the holidays. Now that Emma is back to help her parents, Quintin is eager to help out the family that was so important to him growing up. And spending time with Emma and her son is no hardship.
Prepare your heart, my reader friend, because this story is all about the feels. Quintin and Ethan are oh-so precious and sweeter than candy canes together, and seeing two slightly damaged people find love is better than a visit from jolly old St. Nick himself. Sweet, humorous and heartfelt with a side of steam, this one is guaranteed to capture your heart and put you in the holiday spirit.
Quintin "Rebel Boy" Stockton, enjoys his career as a Smoke Jumper. Raised by a neglectful mother, and an abusive father, Quintin only feels a sense of peace when he's on the job. On his last jump, his parachute is damaged, and what follows is a rough landing and a shattered leg. What will Quintin do, since his life is all about fighting fires, and not family?
Emma "Nerd Girl" Rollins, divorced returns to the Rollins Tree Farm hoping a visit with her parents will make her six year old son, Ethan happy. While Emma was pregnant the ultrasound showed that Ethan would be born with half a leg, and he'll need a Prostectic leg. Emma's wealthy husband demanded she abort the child, because he didn't want a disabled child. Emma refuses. Her husband promises support of Ethan if Emma agrees to a divorce, says she had a one night stand, says that the baby isn't his, and leave the father info blank on the birth certificate. Emma agree to a life of never dating or remarriage to support the financial needs of her son.
What follows is two school friends reconnecting, and finding what's missing in their lives in each other, as well as an adorable, heart sore six year old that finds something he needs...acceptance into the blended families of the Stocktons, and Harts.
Such a feel good read! Emma and Quintin were friends as teens that turned to love when they saw each other again. Emma doesn't want a relationship again after a failed attempt but Quintin isn't allowing her to say no. Laughs, tears and happiness is what this book is.
As seen on my blog (Jessie's Reading Corner): This is hands down going into my favorite reads of 2021 list; I loved everything about this book! This story gave me all the feels and left me smiling!
A Real Cowboy for the Holidays is Stephanie’s ninth book in her Wyoming Rebels series and stars Quintin Stockton as our hero and Emma Rollins as our heroine. While this is a part of a series, I feel like Stephanie gives you enough of the backstory that you will be able to understand what has happened in the previous books.
Quintin Stockton is a smokejumper; it’s his job and it’s how he quiets the demons inside him. When an injury on the job sidelines him, he returns to the family ranch for the holidays. Emma Rollins is finally returning home to help out on the family Christmas tree farm after living in NYC with her 6-year old son, Ethan.
Quintin and Emma were childhood friends; Quintin used to help out at the Rollins Family Farm and they developed a friendship. They reunite when Emma literally crashes into his truck in the Rollins Family Farm parking lot. Quintin always considered himself to be anti-marriage but when Emma runs into his truck, he starts to reconsider; especially after meeting Ethan.
This story had it all; it was tender, heartwarming, steamy, and fun. My heart broke for both Quintin and Emma. Both have been through a lot and I loved watching them fight for each other. I loved getting reacquainted with the Hart and Stockton families and I loved when they rallied around Quintin, Emma and Ethan.
Stephanie Rowe continually impresses me with her level of world building and story telling. She is definitely one of my favorite authors to read. If you are looking for a steamy holiday read that plays out like a Hallmark After Dark movie, I suggest you pick up this book when it comes out on November 16! You can pre-order it now on all platforms!
Thank you Stephanie for the opportunity to review this as an ARC!
This book is a roller coaster ride of feels. The pain and despair of Quintin and Emma’s wounds is a living, breathing palpable thing but so is their love and hope. This was at its core a heart warming story about love, loss, family, and damaged but not broken people. This is book 9 in the Wyoming Rebels series. Quintin Stockton is a smokejumper and uses the high physical demands of the job to outrun the demons from a horrific childhood with an abusive alcoholic father. Unfortunately, a failed parachute results in a career ending injury, his one leg is broken in 4 places. Emma Rollins is a single mom raising a disabled child and she has a secret which would cause devastation if revealed. Quintin and Emma were friends in high school when Quintin would work at the Rollins Christmas tree farm. The story begins when Quintin comes home to his family’s ranch six months and four surgeries post-accident with his leg still not healed. Emma and her son Ethan are back at the Rollins farm thinking of moving back to the small town. On their way to their HEA, Quintin and Emma grow and strengthen beautifully as individuals and as a couple by learning to let go of their pasts in order to embrace a future neither one ever thought they’d have. The book has a little bit of everything just like you would expect from this series - sweet moments, strong family bonds, sexy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, and so much love. All the books in this series have a central theme of family - those we are born into and those we create. This book is no different. The Stockton family loves hard and they love by surrounding you with goodness and strength. I wish I could be a part of this family and I cannot wait to read the story of the last Stockton brother.
What’s better than a Christmas romance, for me it would be one that’s with a cowboy on a Christmas Tree Farm and honestly when you add in a single mum you get the perfect holiday read. This is single mum Emma Rollins and smoke jumper Quinton Stockton’s story and boy do they have a captivating tale to tell. Quinton is receiving from an jury that has possibly ended his career and looking for something to keep himself motivated he is persuaded to help Emma as she struggles to keep the family farm running. Back home with her son Ethan it’s not just the farm that’s struggling, her son is struggling with his new home and it’s Quinton that comes to everyone’s rescue. This story touched me on so many levels, I smiled and I swooned as I turned the pages but it was the relationship Quinton built with Ethan that took this book to another level. The characters are easy to connect with, the family bonds and loyalty will have you wishing for an extended family like thus one and I guess my final words are please one click this magical read.

5 star review of A Real Cowboy For The Holidays (Wyoming Rebels #9) by Stephanie Rowe
My favourite holiday of the year is Christmas, a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate. I cannot think of anything more fun than to own a Christmas tree farm. I love single parent stories and quickly became invested in Emma Rollins and smoke jumper Quintin Stockton’s story. Recovering from a potentially career ending injury Quinton is convinced to help Emma as she struggles to keep the farm going. From the moment they met I felt as though these two were meant to be together, add in Emma’s young son, Ethan and I knew we were in for an entertaining read. The relationship between Quintin and Ethan just about melted my heart. The characters were easy to relate too and it was heart warming to watch their relationship develop. Could Emma finally have found the happiness that has evaded her? Has Quinton finally found a family to love? One click and find out.
A single mom returns to Wyoming to save her family Christmas tree farm…with the help of a reluctant cowboy who just might be the dad her little boy needs.
★★★★★ " An epic heartwarming story." ~Vicki R (Amazon Review on A Real Cowboy for Christmas)
After a shattering divorce, former NYC ad exec Emma Rollins moved back home to Wyoming to give her son a better life. But with her family Christmas tree farm on the brink, she needs help fast, or the three-generation business will be gone forever…and all the memories with it.
Sidelined from Smokejumping with a devastating injury, Quintin Stockton is struggling to deal with the fact his career might be over. But when a family situation drags the former cowboy home for Christmas, he finds himself haunted by the shadows he's never been able to escape.
When a desperate single mom barters for his help hauling Christmas trees around, it's the distraction Logan needs. But when the loner cowboy discovers it comes with her parents and a brave little boy, suddenly he has a chance to for the Christmas love he didn't even know he wanted.
Can Christmas magic bring love to two hearts that were once closed forever?
Loved Quintin and Emma's story. It was beautifully written and heartfelt. This was my first book from this author and it won't be my last. Their journey wasn't an easy one. I loved seeing how Quintin's family rallied behind him and especially when Emma was in need. This was a heartwarming holiday story!
Cowboys and Christmas...Yes, Please!!! I don’t recall reading any of Stephanie Rowe’s small-town romances before, and after reading “A Real Cowboy for the Holidays,” Book 9 in the Wyoming Rebels series, I’m wondering how I let myself be deprived! Holy crapadoodle, those Stockton and Hart boys! Quintin is about as sexy a sin, a smoke jumping firefighter who has such a capacity for love but is afraid to allow it for himself, and he is blindsided when a Christmastime reunion with his high school friend, Emma (aka Nerd Girl), has him rethinking things a bit. Emma is as beautiful and strong as she is a devoted Mama Bear to her adorable son, and that kickstart to her libido - courtesy of “Rebel Boy” Quintin - is such an amazing, sweet and steamy holiday story. The entire cast is so real and beautifully broken that I’m absolutely in love, and now, I need to grab all of the earlier ones and catch up! New fan right here, Stephanie Rowe!!!
This was a wonderful friends to lovers romance! Funny how easily things fit together when you just stop trying and let things happen! Quinton thought he knew what he wanted until it was taken away. Chasing the thrill, playing the hero, working until he was too exhausted to think about anything. One bad jump and his life changed. Emma is coming home to pick up the pieces of her life and start over with her son Ethan on the family’s Christmas tree farm. When she runs into Quinton’s truck, things really start to happen. Watching these two, no three come together and find themselves is so adorable. Full of humour, drama, love and a bit of hubba hubba ... While it is part of a series, there is just enough backstory explained that it reads very well as a stand-alone story. For those that have read the rest, it’s nice to catch up with the rest of the family. You won’t want to put it down!
I love this series and am thrilled another brother is home! Rebel boy and nerd girl were friends back in high school, now they're all grown up and meet up again at her family's tree farm at Christmas. They have pasts to get through to get their HEA but with Stockton and Hart's a HEA is all that it can be. It's a great holiday love story that you must read, even if you haven't read the other books. Now to wait for the book we've all been waiting for!
Such a wonderful book! I haven't read any of this series, but am going to have to go back and read every one.
Loved Emma, her son Ethan, Quentin, the broken man who managed to bring everyone together. I giggled a few times, and I cried a few times. HEA books don't get much better than this!
Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read and review what may possibly be one of my favorite romances of all time!
Fighting to replace the hurt and shyness her little boy feels, Emma brings them both home for the holidays. She doesn't expect to run into her old friend Quintin, and she surely doesn't expect to fall for him, knowing she isn't free to love him.
Quintin is struggling with the fact that his career as a smokejumper is over. The loss is acute and threatens to overshadow his life. But when he sees Emma again after so long, he wonders if his life can't be rearranged just a bit so that he could be free to love her.
Stephanie Rowe's heartwarming take on a second chance, holiday-themed romance is sure to melt your heart and make you feel that anything is possible - even Christmas miracles.
I definitely recommend it.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
Of course the Stocktons are one of my favourite families. Quinten and Emma’s story is such a heartwarming holiday story with all the feels.I honestly couldn’t put it down. It’s about two people who were the best of friends as teenagers. After many years they reconnect and realize they were actually in love with each other. They each come with their own baggage but together they find a way to overcome adversities. Emma quietens the darkness that haunts Quinten and he finally feels at peace to come home to the ranch Chase built for his family. So much chemistry between them and so much love, sweet moments and holiday spirit. The way the families rally around them is so touching we all want to be part of either the Stockton or Hart families. A definite holiday must read!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and I can honestly say I loved this book. Each and every one of the Stockton stories grabs your heart.
Quintin and Emma have known each other since childhood and they reunite each holding secrets that define their lives. Neither wants or thinks they need love and worry about its effects on their lives.
This is the story of family, friends, challenges accepted and taken. Its a sweet read that makes you believe in the power of love and family.
A Real Cowboy for the Holidays is a firefighter, single parent, small town Christmas romance told in dual, alternating 3rd person POV. It is the ninth installment in the Wyoming Rebels and can be read as a standalone without struggling to follow the plot (I go into this a little further below).
The premise and tropes of this story appealed to me lot. I love single parent romances, and Ethan especially was one of my favorite kids in a romance novel. His subplot of regaining his self-confidence moved me to tears! Christmas tree farms are also my absolutely favorite sub-trope of Christmas romances.
Despite some very interesting storylines (from Ethan's condition, Emma's complicated ex, and Quinton's injury), ultimately this book did not captivate me like I expected it to. It felt too wordy at times, and despite some emotional depth in the writing, I didn't feel connected to the main characters’ romance. I especially did not like that originally, the hero and heroine's past was described as a light friendship isolated to the times they were both working at the tree farm, but once they got together they romanticized their past as if they have loved each other all this time and saying things like "it's always been you." To me, that made it feel phony in the end.
While I liked many of the Stocktons and Harts that we met, sometimes it felt like they were only there to promote their books and not really contribute to this story. I am a huge fan of band of brothers series, and understand the reality of marketing other books to readers, but I prefer when authors stick to a handful of previous characters who play a role in the story I am reading, instead of a roundtable of the entire family with a summary of each love story.
I enjoyed but did not love this story. I may consider trying one of the earlier installments in the series at a later date, because the teasers included in this book did appeal to me.

A Real Cowboy for the Holidays by Stephanie Rowe is a part of her Wyoming Rebels series featuring the nine Stockton boys and their sister. This book focuses on Quintin, who is a flame jumper and loves it. The only time he feels peace is in the moment after he jumps and before he lands. Now all of that is in danger when a small rip appears in his parachute. He watches as it gets larger, alternating between that and the fire below him. He landed away from the fire, but shattered his leg in so doing. Now, his brother Chase has nagged him home for Christmas. He'll go but he will not stay. He can't. Emma Rollins is home, too, at the Rollins Tree Farm, where he's known her years ago. Working at the farm had been lifesaver for him. Her parents had been great. She's been a great friend. She didn't look like a friend anymore, though. And what about this little boy? Ethan. He had a limp. Not exactly like Quintin's, but close. All three fell in love, but there were complications.
I love this series and I love this book. It took Quintin a while to realize he'd always loved Emma. Like many men, he couldn't visualize it. He was too busy being depressed about the end of his career. All it took was someone else needing him, and they did. They also fit right in with his family. Emma is a strong woman. She's had to be, what with Ethan's leg and her ex-husband being such a jerk. Quintin was strong, too, between facing his father, abusive and alcoholic man he had been, and facing the fires. They both recognized it was time to move on, but didn't exactly agree on what that looked like. Quinton had the "bad boy" Stockton reputation to love down, too. Between love and money they could both move on. What a terrific story. And right at Christmas. Perfect.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of this book by the author. All thoughts and comments are mine. #stephanierowe #arealcowboyfortheholidays
Wow, this book really hit me hard. I was only 32% in and I was balling.
This is such a great love story. Emma and Quintin are so cute together. I was smiling the entire time I wasn’t crying lol
But Quintin with his past, much like the other Stockton guys, it really messes with him. His view on all of it is different. And then what happens to him. So many emotions.
Then you have Emma. Such a wonderful stubborn woman trying to do what she thinks is best. Then she also is wrung out and has so much happening to her too.
When they are together though, the sparks fly. The feelings are really and you fall in love with both of them and are rooting for them.
Of course you get the Stocktons and Harts there too which is always a nice treat. You really want nothing more than to be part of their family. It makes me want one of the guys for myself *swoon* lol 😂
But really the main part that got me was Quintin and Ethan and the understanding between the two with what that they are going through.
I had something very similar happen to me and the things that Stephanie Rowe writes about both of them is right on the money. Hence the balling on the first part of the book. I have read so many books in my life and to finally see someone touch on this and say things that I’ve said to myself over and over again, it just hits you hard.
To say this is an amazing heartfelt book is putting it lightly. Quintin and Emma’s chemistry and just everything between them really shines. Read this one guys, you won’t regret it! 😊
Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review
“He smiled. “I’m not kind. I’m aloof, socially stunted, with a hero complex, a thousand emotional issues, and a bum leg,”” (Quote from ARC)
3.5 stars. A wonderful story about family, love, and overcoming trauma, “A Real Cowboy for the Holidays”, by Stephanie Rowe, features a tortured hero who finally finds peace and a strong heroine who’s been dealing with too much alone for too long. I loved the intensity of these characters, particularly the hero, Quintin, who is the quintessential brave alpha male – he’s a smokejumper – yet also shows a sweetness and tenderness that make him a very attractive character. I liked that Quintin and Emma, who were teenage friends, are now adults behaving accordingly and attracted to each other. I also appreciated seeing them explore their shared past and try to deal with their troubles, insecurities, conflicted feelings and fears, all in a believable way. The interaction between Quintin and Emma’s son, little boy Ethan, is adorable. I thought there was a bit too much family interactions and talk about family and feelings, which is understandable in a way because of the hero and his siblings’ traumatic childhood.
I was slightly iffy about this book just based off the blurb. I'm not always able to get into books that seem like a Hallmark movie. Boy am I glad I was wrong and took a chance on this book!!
Quintin Stockton is a smokejumper who has come home after being injured while on duty. He has made his life around his career and now he is struggling with the after affects of his accident. Emma Rollins has come home with her son for Christmas. She has been living in NYC but she is debating on making a change in their lives. Hopefully, for the better. She loves her family's Christmas Tree farm but she has been noticing that things aren't quite what they used to be. She knows that her parents need help, and Quintin over hears and offers his. A lot of his good memories are from him spending time working on the farm. But when he realizes just how much Emma and her son are coming to mean to him, he has to decide whether he wants to go back to his career or to stay and try for something true and lasting. And when not only issues with the farm arise, but the truth about things in Emma's past come to light-can they both make the choice to fight for their happiness?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Like I said above-it almost sounded like this book would be too cutesy or sweet for my liking. And I was absolutely wrong about that! Quintin and Emma have this banter back and forth (the nicknames are great btw!) that made me love their characters. But not only that, they both have been struggling with things in their lives that keep them from finding true happiness. There are multiple things going on in this story that just kept me reading and needing to know more. And the things with her son? While absolutely heart breaking-they showed just how far a woman will go for the love of her child. And when they decide that what they could have is worth any fight? Absolutely beautiful!! My only question, was there more to the others on the helicopter in the beginning? Or are they going to be part of the Hart brother's story? And I really can't wait for the last Stockton book!!
There was a lot to like about this story of overcoming your past in order to love. I especially liked Ethan, the little boy with the prosthetic leg, and I ached for Emma's parents when it was revealed they'd lost the ranch. I never fully connected with Emma, though, and the change in Quintin was very extreme from the way he talked and thought in Chapter 1 (really a prologue, when he's injured on the job) to total devotion. (Yes, I know this is about how finding "the one" changes you but for me it's gotta be gradual and believable.) There were a lot of characters flitting in and out of the H/H interactions and inner thoughts and dialogue were somewhat repetitive. And this may sound odd, because there IS a happy ending, but I was disappointed with the quick-wrap ending. Basically, Quintin's friends and family solved all of Emma's problems (all in one day!) with money.
I say it every time, each new book in the Wyoming Rebel series is my new favorite! This installment did not disappoint! A Real Cowboy for the Holidays is a perfect Christmas time romance story. Quinton Stockton and his brothers didn't have a normal upbringing to say the least, so when, as a teenager, his job at the local Christmas tree farm every year not only gave him a reprieve from home life, but also a friendship with the smart girl/owners daughter Emma. Fast forward...Emma, divorced with a young son and a big secret is home for the holidays to see if being back, and possibly being able to run the tree farm, is just what her and her son Ethan need to be able heal. Quintin, newly injured doing the one thing in life that gives him peace, makes a visit home to distract him from the realization that his career might just be over for good. When they both run into each other (literally lol) they soon realize that there is something more there than just a long ago friendship. Both having sworn off ever getting into anything serious, find that they might not be able to resist. Quintin and Emma's son Ethan form an instant bond and Emma soon discovers he might just be what Ethan needs as well. Throw in some Stockton family love and instant protectiveness towards anyone they consider part of the family, and this story will pull you in from start to finish. Cannot wait for the next book!
Every book in this series is like catching up with family, and this book is even more so now that all but two Stockton brothers have found their true love.
The Rollin Tree Farm is a magical place and where Quintin first saw a real family show each other love. It’s also likely where he found a love and calling to protect forests which he has protected as a smokejumper.
Quintin is still struggling with the physical pain from the significant leg injury and four subsequent surgeries trying to repair it along with the frustration knowing he may have to give up his job which is his sole passion and what keeps him sane. He isn’t feeling the Christmas spirit and begrudgingly takes two of his nephews to see Santa at the Rollins Tree Farm which ends up being life changing.
Emma is home for the holidays with her 6-year old son Ethan. She’s trying to see if the Christmas magic of the tree farm, and time spent with his grandparents will help heal the emotional wounds he suffered from a horrible bullying situation when he started kidney in the fall.
Reading as little Ethan discovers a friend in Quintin and Emma and Quintin fall in love is so heartwarming as well as entertaining. Each of them is reluctant and hopeful, and wanting to run from the intense emotions they are feeling.
The Stockton/Hart clan is once again there to provide the love and support needed to bring home another brother and to help Quintin as he discovers the healing magic of love with the woman who heals his soul.
I love this series and am excited to see the final brother, Caleb, come home and to learn his story.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Once again Stephanie has hit it out of the park with book 9 in the Wyoming Rebels series. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the other books you are given just enough detail so you understand everything that Quintin has gone through growing up, who the other characters are in the book and how they’ve formed such strong family bonds. This book has all the feels! One moment I was crying the next I was laughing and then there were a few where I wanted to smack some sense into one of them. There are sweet moments, flawed characters and love both the family kind and romantic (with a little heat thrown in for good measure.) Both Quintin and Emma have been through a lot back when they knew each other in high school and in the years after. It takes a lot of thought and trust for them to work through everything and get the HEA that they deserve. It was nice to visit with the rest of the Stocktons and Harts as well. I always feel like I’m visiting with old friends when I pick up the next book in the series. One of the things I appreciate about Stephanie’s writing is that the characters grow throughout the book. They realize that maybe their perception growing up was not the same as how they see things as an adult and sometimes people only show the outside world what they want them to see. Once they let people in and allow others to help them everything falls into place.
Have your tissues at the ready as Stephanie Rowe is about to take you on an emotional magically Christmas ride. It wouldn't be Christmas without a Wyoming Rebels story and I have to say Quintin and Emma were the perfect pair to be our Christmas seasonal couple, but for me, Emma's young son Ethan stole the show, I dare anyone not to full in the love with this brave wonderful young man.
Nerdy Girl and Rebel Boy were the names that this couple gave each other in school many years ago and now for the first time since then they are both back in town for Christmas. Each couple is dealing with their own form of hurt and tragedy.
