Mackenzie's podcast career is taking off! She encourages single women and men in self love, but has yet to fix her own love life. Her typical picks with men include doctors, lawyers, and even professional athletes. Mackenzie frequents a coffee shop every morning with no clue that the waiter behind the counter has his eye on her. He's not her preference, but is he what she needs?
When the moment of truth presents itself, Mackenzie must choose. What's worse? The pain of regret or giving something new a chance?
Daria has lived in Texas most of her life. She never enjoyed reading as a kid. In fact, she almost hated it. However, as she grew up, that all changed. Though she received her degree in healthcare management, Daria kept her writing as a hobby. She meant it to be private and her own way of expressing herself. It never crossed her mind to publish until she was in college. She took a chance and published. It worked! As a multi-genre writer, she truly writes what comes to mind. She currently lives in New York with her husband. Learn more at dariawhite.com.
One of the shortest pieces I've read. MacKenzie has kissed too many frogs, and she's over it. What she didn't expect was the barista who made and served her coffee. First read by this author. I'd love to check out more of her shorts. Extremely shorts
Very Sweet! This short story introduces entrepreneur Mackenzie and her quest for a mature relationship. She's not interested in playing dating games and perhaps there's a gentleman who feels the same way.
A realistic storyline and good writing. I hope the author continues to write more about Mackenzie's love journey. 💖
This was a really cute short story. I always enjoy Daria White's writing and the characters she brings to her readers. I want to read more about these two characters. Lovely story.
What Mackenzie Needs is a charming and empowering short story about confidence, self-respect, and the importance of recognizing what—and who—is truly worth your time. Daria White delivers a sweet, feel-good romance in just 16 pages, but she still manages to give us characters who are self-aware, emotionally mature, and easy to root for.
Mackenzie, a confident and successful podcaster, knows exactly what she wants in a relationship—and more importantly, what she won’t tolerate. When her date, Daryl, stands her up at her favorite coffee shop, she doesn’t make excuses or chase after him. She trusts her instincts, sees the red flag for what it is, and immediately deletes and blocks him. A queen move, honestly.
Enter Damien—the observant and thoughtful barista who’s been quietly paying attention. He knows Mackenzie’s daily coffee order, her favorite cake pop, and that her recent coffee shop dates didn’t go so well. Instead of rushing in, Damien patiently waits for the right moment to make his move. When he does, it’s nothing short of romantic. He closes the coffee shop early and sets up an intimate dinner and dancing for two—a beautifully executed gesture that makes you wish the story lasted longer.
The chemistry between Mackenzie and Damien feels natural and genuine, and the writing is clean, crisp, and refreshingly free of unnecessary drama or explicit content.
The only downside? It’s over way too soon. At just 16 pages, this story leaves you wanting more of Mackenzie and Damien. Still, it’s a satisfying bite-sized romance that proves short stories can still pack a punch.
First let me say, I do not mind reading a short story, this one was suppose to be sixteen pages...it was really ten. The story line was excellent, but for me it really was just something like an essay, and the ending, so what's for dessert and there it ends. I thought this could have been a great short love story if the author would have used the full sixteen pages. I will see if any of her other works catch my eye.
I love a good short story, but this is supposed to be a “short love story,” and love story it is not. I don’t feel like anything really happened. The characters met and then it literally ended. There was no love, the only thing there could’ve been in this very brief development was a basic like when you don’t know anything at all about the other person. I was disappointed at the emptiness this held.
This was a major tease! That Cheesecake Factory girl could NEVER!
This is a very short story of a woman throwing out her list of expectations and taking a chance. There are sooo many juicy details. No spice but instead a desire, connection, and intimacy I believe most people wish for.
I can only hope that we get a full-length story in the future.
This is a really cute story, though I wish it were a bit longer. This would allow time for MacKenzie to discover who Damien really is and allow the relationship to grow a bit deeper.
Need something short and sweet, and this was perfect.
This short story dropped some gems, depending on if you're receptive. Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zones and try something new. Great little quick read.
This was so cute. I love short stories but at the same time always end up wanting more. ☺️ Mackenzie and Damian are out there living their best lives together I just know it.
