I know it says novel but I'm using this edition to review the graphic novel copin version.
The premise gives us this noble girl Regina caught in a predicament after witnessing a murder. In the original novel her character was destined to die to move the story. But in the isekai version the Duke proposes to her instead. This new version of Regina opened up to new developments that were not in the original like .
I finished season 1 and currently on season 2 ep 53 I gave it three stars, but this is still ongoing so I might change my mind about. It's not actually a 'page turner' but we're still in the middle so let's see. I hope that we can get over Regina's sweat of anxiety because that's all it offered for the most part of the narrative,(can't blame the girl though) In the recent chapters, she's gaining a little foothold on things so good for her, I guess.
19 Jul 2021 @ch22 of Manhwa. Rating may change in the future.
1. Girl transmigrated to early death canon fodder ends up being engaged to get murderer instead.
2. So this wasn't bad, exactly. It was definitely enjoyable and once the magic powers plot came in the the protagonist got some much needed agency and characterization thank fuck. It's still a fairly cliche romance and political plotting story though. It's told well, and it's funny and the characters are likeable, but it's not really saying anything that interesting?
3. Of course I've stopped fairly early on in the story so this opinion might change eventually.
4. Regina spends most of her time with a deer in the headlights expression on her face. Which is... understandable, but also not that fun in an Isekai protag unless they are doing other fun stuff or having unhinged inner monologues? Her feat, and how she has no choice but to go with the flow dur to her lack of personal power is most of the early part of the book and it gets a little tiring. Particularly since her love interest is just the Most Powerful Most Competent etc. person. It's not a very good match, and it also makes Arsene immensely boring.
5. Things get better later on in the story where Regina starts planning and doing things on her own and not as a Arsenes' puppet but it takes a while.
6. Reginas' two friends are fun. I think my biggest soft spot is for them. The dowager empress looks like an evil femme fatale but at least her son is adding actual tension to the plot so yay?
goddamn, i completely forgot about this one. i’m happy it’s back, though!
edit post-completion: well, it’s been a pretty sweet book! predictable, but sweet nonetheless. there was nothing particularly noteworthy about it, though… however, a fairly decent read. ;)
