Oh what a beauty this one is! So much, said, felt, and seen with the heart in so little words. My thanks to Cheri once again for enriching my life with in expected beauty.
A short story by Caitlin Hamilton Summie, an author who has a gift for bringing her lovely short stories to life in a way that few people can do. Whenever something I’ve read reminds me a bit of the way she infuses her stories so subtly, but with an honest emotion, as well as an understanding of people that these stories, although fiction, feel more like they were found in a journal of someone’s real life.
This story begins with a father waking his eight year-old son in the middle of the night so he can watch the birth of a calf, but this is only slightly more than 20 pages, so I will refrain from sharing more than that. It is a moment that he will remember, a bond with his father that he will never forget.

A lovely short story, one I first read as part of the collection found in To Lay To Rest Our Ghosts. Caitlin Hamilton Summie has the wonderful ability to create a scene and bring it to life with very few words. She infuses her characters with life and depth and as a reader I always find them highly relatable.
