Lornyc is good at keeping secrets, because secrets can get you killed.
Lornyc hates politics. The small talk, backstabbing, and the attempts to undermine his marriage make his blood boil and his head ache. But what he really hates is someone kidnapping his husband. The suspicion that the Valen are somehow involved is confirmed when the truth about Methian’s real parentage is revealed.
But there are other fights ahead, this time with the mage when Lornyc discovers that they were not only behind his mother’s family being stripped of their magic, but have been trying to limit the Reagalos family powers for centuries.
REBECCA COHEN spends her days dreaming of living in a Tudor manor house, or a Georgian mansion. Alas, the closest she comes to this is through her characters in her historical romance novels. She also dreams of intergalactic adventures and fantasy realms, but because she’s not yet got her space or dimensional travel plans finalised, she lives happily in leafy Hertfordshire, England, with her husband and young son. She can often be found with a pen in one hand and sloe gin with lemon tonic in the other.
Book Three sees things take a turn into unfamiliar ground as Lor suddenly finds his husband missing.
The sense of danger and the idea that there are far bigger plottings going on than either Lornyc or Methian could ever have imagined make their presence felt in more than one direction.
Lornyc discovers secrets long held buried and while he searches for Methian, his husband is also finding out elements in his own family that will change everything.
The pacing in this instalment really kicks up a gear and the narrative explores more about the Valen and the world they occupy.
It becomes clear people have been hiding some revelations that will have far reaching implications for all the cities on the lake.
One thing that doesn't change though is Lornyc and Methian's devotion to each other. They come to rely on that even more and realise that petty squabbling will not get them anywhere.
I absolutely love what Rebecca is doing with this series and seeing Lornyc grow into his role is so enjoyable.
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.
AVARICE is the third book in the Reagalos series and we begin where we finished the last book. Lornyc is bogged down by the minutiae of ruling multiple kingdoms, Methian is stepping into his role more as Heir (still want more of him stepping up though), and things are about to get complicated.
I'm going to be 100% honest here - when they arrived in Beher, I thought we were in for a bit of the same old, same old. Methian pretends to like other people; Lornyc doesn't like it. Methian had a multitude of lovers that Lornyc has to deal with; Lornyc had one and Methian can't deal.
INSTEAD, what I got swept me away, and I loved that! I was taken by surprise with the direction this book took me, and I can't thank the author enough! Methian has proven his loyalty to Lornyc beyond a doubt. The Caveer Guards are something else, and I am enjoying them more and more. The story develops even more, giving me twists and turns that fully kept my attention. I was absolutely engrossed with how this one went, and I honestly can't wait for the next one.
This series just gets better and better. Highly recommended by me!

Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Nov 4, 2021
“Avarice” is book three of the “Reagalos” series and it’s just as exciting as the first two novels: “Servitude” and “Idolatry”.
Lornyc has continued to prove himself as a great leader. For the youngest High Lord he has used his intelligence, integrity and honesty to improve and help those and the Cities around him. When Lornyc thinks he has one problem solved there’s another one springing from somewhere. Some think and will treat Lornyc as a child, never believing in his abilities. Some want to destroy the relationship between Lornyc and Methian. But the non-believers don’t know what they are up against and Lornyc holds his own secret about his heritage.
Unfortunately, some never believed that Lornyc and Methian were ever in love and look at their marriage as arranged and/or political. Lornyc and Methian have been warned that something could happen as Arial Charta, Supreme Mage and ruler of Beher has called for an L5 summit. She is devious and a force to be reckoned with!
Lornyc and Methian knew of the trouble that could occur at the L5 and decide to pretend and play the game. As they arrive in Beher, Lornyc is told by Methian what he sees of the city and the palace is only glamour. Nothing is what is seems.
All the while Lornyc has made discovers about the caves and the orbs and how they connect to the Cities. As Lornyc is tired of all the social activity at the ball, he retires early, but sneaks out to see if he can pick up on conversations. When he hides in the garden, he faces something he doesn’t want to see and runs from Methian. He discovers a cave under Beher with dormant orbs. Can the dormant orbs be awakened and what will happen if once they are?
What of the room of Artefacts from different dimensions and what secrets lie there?
Just who is Brethen Council member Stellaro dead for 400 years? Is he Taran Tellara, lover to Bartemus Hadral and father to Methian. Is Methia a Valen? Why has he been kidnapped? How far will Lornyc go to get his husband back?
What is Brethren Council leader Kalec and General Treal stirring up with Liall Head of Audits and how does the Emaus Protocols fit with their plan?
Once again, Rebecca Cohen expands her creative imagination with secrets and reveals in this third installment of the “Reagalos”. The world building is always descriptive and there’s no end to the adventure and excitement that comes with each novel. There’s also the power of orbs and magic and what part they play in Lornyc’s life. No matter how many situations are going on in the story they all come together nicely and have me yearning for the next novel.
Besides the usual characters there are some new ones in this novel. Dr. Jimma, Heba, Sia and Fioal all are involved in the Triation Department. There’s more of an in-depth look at Arial Charta. Urla Hadral also get’s more of a role in this novel. There’s still many emotional, dangerous and humorous scenes with many of the existing characters.
I highly suggest before starting “Avarice”, “Servitude” and “Idolatry” must be read. There’s just too many secrets and there’s no way to even guess what will happen next in this series! “Restitution” is the fourth book in the “Reagalos” series, coming in December.
The Valen discovered something unusual in Xenetra’s history, the place where Methian is the heir. Meanwhile, there is an expanding kingdom to run and, after the betrayal at court, there are few who Lornyc trusts with helping. Political alliances, back door negotiations, kidnapping, assumptions, and a whole lot more are part of this story.
Avarice is the third book in the Reagalos series and my favorite thus far. To date, the books have seen Lornyc dealing with a slew of dramas, mainly due to his reprobate grandfather. His shenanigans remain in the background, but this novel sees Methian share more of the limelight.
The novel is written in the third person, from the viewpoint of Lornyc and Methian. I received a copy of this book early – likely before the final edit – because I found a number of grammatical errors, e.g., transposed and erroneous words. I hope they are missing from the last version. As for worldbuilding, more of the surrounding cities and peoples involved with the Reagalos are revealed.
Avarice has its own drama to be solved. But, there is also more about characters from previous books and the continuation of certain arcs. The Caveer Guards have a greater involvement which gives the reader a greater understanding of their world.
The series wouldn’t be what it is without a few shakeups and there are a few. Although Avarice is a more structured and less busy read, it still conveys a sense of anticipation and provides more questions than answers – the majority of which are solved by the last page.
This novel contains magical as well as political maneuvering. Earlier books were more a case of Lornyc and Methian understanding the world in which they were hurled before their time. There is a greater degree of organization and understanding in this one, which leads to other revelations. And let’s not forget that the blurb states that Methian gets kidnapped.
Methian is an absolute sweetheart and shines. Lornyc is protective, and the Caveer Guards are actually helpful instead of sarcastic observers.
In all, Avarice was more my cup of tea. I found the story easier to follow as the couple is not running from one grandpa-induced disaster to another. Yet, it contains plenty of temptation, magic, angst, and surprises for me to be thoroughly entertained.

Avarice is the third book in the Reagalos Series and previous installments should be read before diving into this book.
Methian and Lornyc are caught in the middle of a huge plotting that span decades and involves far more people and dimensions than they can imagine. Add in the political machinations, backstabbing and all the attempts to undermine their marriage things almost get out of control. A disagreement ensues as a result but is eventually resolved resulting in a deeper understanding between them.
When things were turning for the better, Methian gets kidnapped. While Lornyc and his guards search for his husband, he uncovers long buried secrets. Trapped in a place so far from his home while awaiting rescue, Methian learns of elements in his family that will change everything he has known.
Avarice is a much faster paced book in comparison to the previous ones. There is more action in this installment, more intrigue and mysteries that hooks one in. There is wonderful worldbuilding done here and the narrative explores the Valen and the world they inhabit in extensive detail. Some of the loose threads during the first two books were tied-up nicely while providing a better picture on the over encompassing enigma surrounding the organization that governs dimensions and other species. There's also good number of unrevealed things that seems to have a bigger implication to the characters and the world they inhabit.
In the entirety of the story, the one constant thing is the devotion of Methian and Lornyc to each other. That no matter what is thrown at them and despite the fights they might get into, the couple remains steadfast and strong. Their relationship has grown so much from the time that they got married. They've learned to rely more on each other in facing all the obstacles that has been thrown their way.
I am liking the direction this series is going to and I am looking forward to the next book. Avarice is a strong 4.25 stars out of 5 stars,
I received an ARC of this book via GRR and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.
Note: this is book three in a series— for context and clarity (and because the previous books are also awesome) start with book one!
In this book, the rug is pulled out from under Lornyc in a really dramatic way when his husband Methian goes missing. The search for Methian turns up yet more secrets and reveals things that some people definitely don’t want revealed.
All the things I love about this series can be found in this book. The world building, with its intricate politics, intriguing history, and incredible, dimension-bending powers, is immersive and compelling. The characters are interesting, and Methian and Lornyc are clearly evolving into their roles and their relationship (they can still be infuriating, separately and apart, but their imperfections are part of their charm). The plot didn’t go where I expected it to, and I liked that as well.
A great installment in a really interesting series, well worth a read.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lornyc is not fond of politics but know he must play the game. He finds himself underestimated and treated as a child. He also finds back stabbing, sly comments and attempts top undermine his marriage. It gets even worse when his husband is kidnapped and it looks like the Valen are involved. To make matters worse, he finds that the family who stripped his mother’s family of magic in the past may be trying to limit Lornyc’s own powers in the present.
There are so many surprises in this series. Once you start reading you do not want to put it down. It helps that Lornyc and Methian are endearing characters. The constant changes in the plot and new discoveries keep us intrigued as we are not sure what will happen next. There is more to come and we have an inkling of what is next but only an inkling. The next book will be just as incredible.
This third Reagalos book is fast-paced and action-packed. This is an ongoing series, so you need to have read books 1 and 2 first. This book has more intrigue, more secrets, and more mysteries. The world-building is fantastic, and the characters well-developed, especially MCs Lornyc and Methian. I love these two together. They have faced so many challenges together (and I'm sure there will be many more.) Each book provides some answers, more questions, and draws me deeper and deeper into the world and it's peoples. Eagerly waiting for book 4!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Avarice is Book 3 in the Reagalos series and needs to be enjoyed in order. This wonderfully written book is action packed and more secrets are revealed regarding Methian's parentage, especially when he is kidnapped. I love the world building and character development in this series, fabulous. I love Lornyc and Methian together, they are fun to watch. Lornyc's powers are growing and I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next book. This is a marvelous addition to the series and I recommend it, but start with book one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
What a great book. This is book 3 and continues from it left off in book 2. The love between Lor and Methian is great to see; they get stronger in their attractions by the day. Lots of political intrigue and action. Methian gets kidnapped and Lor needs to find him. In this, there are a lot secrets that get revealed. Loving this and looking forward to reading the next one.
You'd think with all the new information Methian and Lornyc uncover in this book, that they and we as readers, would know everything. Boy is that not true. There is more scheming and plotting of the political and magical kinds in this world than you can imagine and it's all marvelous. If you like your characters to be surrounded by treachery, danger, evil and fighting as a couple to stay together and survive, this is your series.
I absolutely loved this book! I love both main characters and I love the complex world they live in. This story had me hooked right from the first words written! There is so much more that I want to say about this brilliant story, but,I won't, as I don't want to spoil this for anyone. I received an ARC copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. Things are really getting heated up. More questions than answers and will they make it when all is revealed? I can't wait for the next book and see how it all comes together.
They never disappoint me. a bit slow at first until you start to remember each character and what role they play. But believe me that once you locate yourself you will not drop this book until you reach the end. and even there you will ask for more. You will be looking forward to the next book. Because this universe has a lot to give us.
I have been waiting to read this story for a really long time and finally, it's here and... it was totally worth it. I was anticipating reading this book ever since I finished my re-read of the first two books and I started reading it as soon as I could and I'm already finished.
It was such an absorbing read that I literally couldn't stop reading and there are so many new things that we learn about this world and its characters that I was bewitched. I had a really great time reading this book and just couldn't put it down.
Lornyc and Methian are just an amazing couple and in this book, they mature into one as well. I feel like in this book their marriage goes from strength to strength and there are many insecurities that they finally get to lay to rest. Also, Methian doting on Lornyc in public is the most adorable thing I have ever witnessed and can I please request more of it.
This book sees Methian come into his own as a character and I was here for it. There are a lot of secrets being uncovered and we learn more about who he is. Personally, I loved seeing Methian get acknowledged for his intelligence, he has been dismissed as a pretty face way too often.
But, this book wouldn't be complete without a Reagalos creating more trouble than they can probably handle and as the book closes out Lornyc has a whole new problem on his hand and I can't wait to see how he deals with it.
Overall, I had a great time reading this book and things are finally heading to a climax that I just can't wait to read about. I can't believe I'm in for another month of anticipation just to get a crack at the finale, although truthfully that would also end with a month of anticipation waiting for the prequel which gets more and more enticing with every new detail I learn about Methian and Lornyc's past. So, in other words, 28 days to go!!
