This is the biographical story of Deborah Sampson Gannet, a young woman who dressed up as a man to serve in the American Revolution, told in small chapter book format for elementary/middle school students. Some parts of the book didn't come across as clearly as other portions but all in all an entertaining and educational read.
Get stepping off point to learn about ths brave woman in the Revolution. Deborah has a har life as a little girl, but for the times it was the best it could be. Deborah has a fire inside to learn and do more than is the 'norm' for the 1700's. Soon she is wearing mens clothing and learning the way of the male life. This leads to a desire to be in the war.
