H3RO #6

Idol Lives

Rate this book
Like its namesake, Atlantis is sinking.

The damage has been done and Atlantis Entertainment is barely hanging on. The police and prosecution are now regular visitors at the company, stocks have taken a hit, and anti-fans are now lining up outside the building.

Sejin might finally be getting what he deserves, but now my main job is to salvage what I can. The idols and actors at Atlantis need their careers protecting, and the public need assuring that what Sejin did will never be repeated again.

Only, my attention is on H3RO.

Tae has enlisted, and Kyun's struggling without him. Nate's busy in a drama, but there's something happening on set which is making him come home and hide in his room. Jun's still recovering from his injury, Dante's back and forth between China, and Minhyuk is... one of the people the police are interviewing.

Can we keep our heads above the water or will the final attack from Sejin be the blow that finally destroys everything?

IDOL LIVES is a full-length novel. There are steamy scenes and super-hot Korean idols which Holly doesn't need to choose between. This is the sixth and final book in this series and you will need to have read the previous book to understand this one.

Under the name Ji Soo Lee, you will find YA contemporary romances, with romance levels like a K-Drama.

Under J. S. Lee, Ji Soo writes steamier stories, mainly of Reverse Harems.

Idol Lives by J.S.Lee

I Give this Book a 4/5 Star Rating

HEA(?): Feels more like an HEA but with a Highly Anticipating Cliffhanger.
Relationship Type: RH>Reverse Harem: MFMMMMM
Heat: 4/5
Pacing: Mid overall, there are time jumps but fit the storyline.
Drama: 4.5/5
Suspense: 3.5/5

I sincerely hope the HERO series continues, at least for one more book, while I enjoy the ending I do feel like one more book it make that series feel truly complete.

It was good, there was a HEA but since we know the nephew was at Kate’s wedding in the end of the Onyx series it almost feels like it needs another book to fully see how the future unravels for HERO and Holly. Otherwise 4.5, i love how the story wrapped up the demon spawn and Holly drama

Well, I've finished the series, and I'm both glad I stuck with it and happy it's over. Shall we begin then?

POV: First person
POV Character(s): Holly Lee
Verb Tense: Past
Trigger Warnings: attempted murder, violence/gun violence, sexual harassment accusations
Content Warning: again--though you should know by this point--this is a reverse harem story, so the FMC is romantically involved with six men
Spice Level: a few explicit scenes

So, here we are at the end of the saga of Holly Lee and the K-pop band H3RO. I'm glad I read the whole thing, but it didn't end quite how I expected. I mean, it didn't end with as much spice as I anticipated, which was fine.

The through-line of this story has been the rivalry Sejin felt toward Holly. That's been the true pulse of the story as Holly navigates her newfound family, a sudden role in a K-pop entertainment company, and responsibilities she never asked for. Sejin's hatred of her has been the one nagging sore spot in a story riddled with sexy heat and equally dangerous scenes of things that stretch credulity but add great drama.

If the author hadn't tied up the loose end of Sejin with this book, the results would have been a number of disappointed readers, but thankfully she did tie up the loose end rather clearly.

This story was a direct continuation of the last, in which Holly was left holding the baby carrier of Ruby, the K-pop idol who had delivered her baby and decided to drop it on Holly's lap because of her issues with her ex, Sejin. I'm glad it picked up from there as Holly had to navigate caring for her nephew until Ruby came around to claim him, and we learned a bit more about her dynamics with the group and her desire to never have children. In a group with six men, you'd expect some pushback about that, but these men won't argue with her, even those who might have wanted children.

So I was glad to see this story had a concluding arc that centered around the issue of Sejin and his constant hatred and threats towards Holly. This book amped up the tension with Sejin and made it clear a choice would have to be made by Woojin before the end of the book.

I suspect after reading this series it's difficult to really write a reverse harem. There are so many intertwined relationships it's tricky to give everyone the kind of page-time they deserve, and I think this book and the previous ones suffered a bit from the issue of not having enough page-time for each individual relationship as it blossomed. But I don't have much experience with reverse harem books, certainly not enough to say if it's an actual issue across other series.

I was happy with the concluding arc of the story. It wrapped up most of the loose ends and gave me a conclusion I could be satisfied with. I would have taken a little more, but that's okay.

And so ends the H3RO saga, and I'm glad I read through it.

1.5 really. I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am in this series. And yes I do mean this series as a whole. The last 3 books were kind of the chance at a redemption arc, and I still find myself thinking Onyx series is far better.

I don't think this author should write reverse harem/why choose romances. The reason I think this is because there was no balance in romance for the characters. As a reader we all have our favorites, and I'm sure the author does too. However, the author has to realize that their favorite isn't always going to be the same as the reader's.

Here's where I will be going into spoilers. So, if you want to avoid those you might not want to read on. My favorite character, and don't ask me why because I don't always go for the softest character, is Minhyuk. Minhyuk got crapped on in these books story wise. I didn't appreciate his big story arc at all, and his closeness with Holly was crappy! He had one spicy scene with Holly, and many planned romantic scenes and everything in all those moments constantly fell apart. I went into the last 3 books hoping that Minhyuk would have some kind of redemption, because he had next to no moments in the first three books. No, I feel like the opposite is true and I'm completely annoyed by it.

Kyun was my second favorite character, and I'm not sure I was fond of his big story arc in the fourth book either. I don't even want to call it cliché, because at least with cliché its often over done because it's enjoyable.

I almost put this book down and didn't finish it several times. I just kept hoping that the redemption and more loving moments would happen, but no this book is mostly about her job, and while I get that was a major plot point I honestly don't think this book had any romance plot points to balance it out. The spicy scenes weren't bad per se, but they weren't good either.

So...I did love this series until this book. Tying up the arc with the brother was a great part. Not sure if it was intentional, forgotten or if the author didn't want to follow through with what seemed like a very important plot thread, but the Minhyuk plot from the prior book got dropped. I get that there was a lot of other drama going down, but Holly was with the others easily. Didn't get why/how the character would overlook something so important as following through with her promise to carve out some time for him to make their second intimate time something he felt more secure about and comfortable with. Major missed opportunity. I was so distracted by this thread that I kept going, okay any page now she's going to remedy what she promised. Then oh okay so she doesn't at all with him? Would have given five stars but it's been a while since something in a series that gets dropped as a emphasized plot thread bothers me.

After how much the finale of the Onyx series did not impress me, I anticipated this wouldn't either... and it definitely did not...

This installment seems mostly to just wrap up all the various plot threads that were left hanging. Things felt rushed, more implausible than ever, and just... boring. Let's be honest, not really reading this series for the industry manipulations and literally unhinged criminal relations. What little romance there was felt largely tossed in to maintain genre.

Anyhow. Still enjoyed the series over all, just not a particularly enjoyable finale. A little "jumped the shark"ish.

I want to like this last book, but it's not for me. I was so bored in the first 80% and it just picked up when Sejin showed up, RIP devil spawned. But, I'm so annoyed with how this turned out. I also got tired of the spicy scenes as well. I like parts of it especially that last bit between Holly and Seungjin. Jisoo, congrats on wrapping up this series. I look forward to reading the new Zodiac book, I loved that series. Oh well, thanks✨

This is a good series. I loved being drawn into the K-pop world. You had angst between the main characters when they were forming relationships, suspense from the evil brother, and lots of drama along the way which all add up to an enjoyable, unique read! I look forward to reading more from this author.
