Travis Bryant, known in the biker world as Curly, spent thirteen hard years behind bars for a heinous crime he didn’t commit. When the truth finally sets him free, nothing remains of his previous life. Curly doesn’t know how to live without the brotherhood of a club. After visiting the Hell’s Handler’s MC, he’s given the go ahead to open a charter in his home state. Claiming an ol’ lady is the furthest thing from his mind until he meets Brooke, the beautiful, hardheaded, dog trainer bent on ending a violent dog fighting ring near her home.
After ten long years married to an abusive narcissist, Brooke vowed she’d never live under another man’s thumb again. Accepting help doesn’t come easy, but when abandoned dogs begin popping up with fatal injuries, she’ll do anything to put an end to the fighting ring responsible. Even enlist the assistance of the most attractive man she’s ever met, and his outlaw MC brothers.
From her feisty, independent spirit to her shapely legs, Brooke appeals to Curly on every level. He can’t keep himself away, but he’s been burned before, and has no plans to tie himself to a woman. Brooke is in the same boat, having promised herself no man would ever have control over her life again. Unfortunately, she can’t kick the curly-haired man in the biker boots out of her head or her bed.
As Brooke and Curly grow closer and danger strikes, will they be able to overcome their past traumas and find strength in each other? Or will they remain stubborn and stick to their guns as their lives crash and burn?
I had been hoping Curly would get his own book when he was first introduced in Little Jack because this man deserves a happily ever after and I am sooo thrilled that he is finally getting it and not only that we also have a New Chapter of the Hell's Handlers to fall in love with as well!
Travis, aka Curly, spent thirteen years in prison for a crime he didn't commit now that he has been out for several months he feels he needs to head back to Florida and with the Hell's Handlers standing behind him he's confident he will be able to start the new Chapter and find the brotherhood he had always wanted.
Brooke left an abusive marriage and has been getting her life back on track, she fosters dogs that need a little extra TLC and helps train them so they can be placed with a loving family. Needless to say when Brooke finds out about a Dog Fighting Ring close to her home she isn't happy about it and wants it stopped.
Both Brooke and Curly have been hurt in the past so they have each vowed to themselves that they will never fall for someone again, and you know that idea is thrown out the window when they meet. I loved Curly in Little Jack and now that I know more about him I love him even more! Brooke is the perfect woman for him, she's feisty and independent, she has a loving heart and is kind to everyone...unless they cross her. The chemistry between the two was smokin' hot.
This was an excellent intro to the new series, I look forward to watching each of these new MC Brothers find the perfect person for them. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense, MC Romances, or are looking for a Steamy read that features a Bad Boy & Good Girl, this is the book for you.
Curly was the first book in the Hell’s Handler’s MC Florida Chapter by Lilly Atlas. It was a spin off from Atlas’ original Hell’s Handler’s MC series. Although enjoyable, it wasn’t necessary to have read the original series first.
We met Curly in the original series as serving many years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit and then was eventually released. His backstory can be found in Little Jack, Hell’s Handler’s MC book six.
The author set the stage well at the start of the series by highlighting Curly’s past, developing the bridge between the original series and the new series, introducing each new MC member in detail and then tying it into Curly’s past, present and future.
Simultaneously, Atlas introduced Brooke, the strong and independent dog trainer. Brooke also had baggage that Atlas unraveled and wove into a story between Curly and Brooke.
I enjoyed the start to the series. And although the main MC conflict was (semi) resolved, I felt like there was more that could be done with the story so hopefully we’ll get a deeper dive as the series continues. I’m not sure who’s next, but there are several great possibilities and I can’t wait to see how the series develops from here!
As per usual Lilly Atlas has delivered an amazing story that made me laugh, got me in my feels and ultimately made my day better.
A start to a new chapter for the Hells Handlers, this time in Fl was a tall order but it was delivered. R met our new family, we got to fall in love with a new pairing and the seeds of greater adversaries have been planted to grow within later books. As usual the writing is quick and easy to read. (I did have an ARC copy though so I don’t note any spelling or grammatical mistakes.)
And as for our couple? Brooke was smart strong and broken in ways she couldn’t see. Curley was sweet, loving and damaged in a way that made total sense. Given his past him being jaded made sense. So seeing these two people find each other really did make my heart so happy.
While this is a new branch of an old tree it reads easy and I think anyone jumping into this world at this point will be able to follow along. Of course doing that and not going back means when old friends are mentioned or shown you don’t get that same impact. Still Lilly Atlas and her MC worlds are worth the investment no matter which book you jump in at.
Gist: Two people deeply betrayed, fighting for their new future, fighting for their independence; but would they choose love or their freedom.
I forced myself to keep reading. It started off good. I really liked Curly as a character and I felt for him tremendously. I was intrigued to see how exactly his version of the club would turn out. By the time we got to Florida I was hyped to see who he would be paired with. Sigh.... I should have stopped reading at 20% of the book but I didn't because Brooke had a fascinating intro but that slowly dissolved as the book progressed.
SPOILERS
Brooke was in an emotionally and mentally abusive marriage when she was younger. The abuse lasted for 10 years.
Joy: I loved that the older male love interest was in his 40s and so was Brooke. It was fitting
Loathe: Brooke needed to still be in intensive therapy because she had the "I'm-an-independent-woman-and-I-don't-need-a-man" syndrome. She was so independent she would literally risk dying than getting help. She was beyond juvenile and annoying with her immature stance on men. I swear it came across as "boys drool, girls rule" weirdness. It started small, not wanting Curly to open a cabinet door, not liking Curly to open a car door for her, ordering (he asked before hand if he could order the meal because it was his favorite restaurant and she had never eaten there), demanding she is apart of a risky potentially life threatening operation, not telling anyone about the threatening letters she received, demanding she goes over to the final sting, an intruder on her property and she goes out alone to get her dog, etc. So many things that kept growing
Pet Peeve: I love yous come st 90% of the book, she still denies that they are in a relationship up to 84% of the book. Whhhyyyy???🤦🏾♀️. Agonizing waste of time to read. Her reasoning remained the same with zero nuance. "Her husband was an abusive jerk so ALL relationships are bad and NO man is worth it" 😬😒. Like sis, get more therapy. Not all men are the same, will treat you the same and even with large proof of Curly's worthiness she was spurting immature mantras. Even in the face of imminent danger.
No sexual relations until 64/70%. I don't mind slow build but this book just dragged. No momentum no feeling of urgency. Just slow pace. I know down South is slow but not that slow.
What a great start to a brand-new series, we loved Brooke and Curly's story. As always, Lilly Atlas made us fall in love with her characters once again.
This is the kind of story that has so many things that you love it had angst, love, compassion, growth, independence, suspense, and a lot more.
Brooke was a strong character full of love and compassion and was doing something she loved. We loved her sass and determination, and also she was fiercely independent to the point it was that she put her safety at risk. Brooke is a bit broken and a bit rough around the edges from having never really healed from her past, so she is perfect for Curly because she has risen from the ashes and knows that there is not only black and white areas but, that gray areas that blur the lines.
We loved Curly from the moment we met him. Spending half his life in prison, you would have thought it would have broken the man but, it did just the opposite. We loved that he was not full of hate and full of revenge but, just wanted to get on with life and get back into MC life that was about the brotherhood and making taking this new MC of the Hell's Handlers Chapter the best it could be.
Overall, we loved the story cover to cover. We loved the characters, and Brooke was a pleasant surprise with her sass and kindness but, what we loved most about her is that she was not judgmental, and she didn't judge Curly for his past. We loved how hopeful open and honest Curly was with Brooke from the very beginning about his past and the life he had led once upon the time and the fact that he put it out there that he would never live a squeaky clean life, so take me like I am, whether in just friendship or romance.
Just loved Brooke and Curly as a couple and even friends, there was sizzle and chemistry that always just bubbled beneath the surface. We loved that love was found when neither wanted it nor was looking for it and that they were both a bit broken, making them perfect from one another as they have experienced life at not being the greatest. The story had suspense and more than a few surprises, making it a perfect mix of all the things we love in a story, making it a great start to a brand-new series.
Let me start by giving a virtual standing ovation and happy giddy dance to the return of the Hell’s Handlers MC 👏🏼🙌🏼 I LOVE the original MC, so when I saw the author was releasing a Florida Chapter of the Hell’s Handlers I was ecstatic 🤩 I got my hopes up, my expectations were high….and Lilly Atlas smashed them out the park with an epic start to the new series!
We have a new group of bikers to fall in love with, in Curly we are introduced to what I believe will be the core group of the Florida Hells handlers. I liked the glimpses into some of their personalities, and the banter was a great comfort, I’m looking forward to following their antics, their troubles and of course watching them fall hard.
I thought Curly and Brooke were so well suited, although neither were open to a relationship due to their similar heartbreaking backgrounds. Curly was locked away for a crime he didn’t commit and Brooke’s ex husband controlled every aspect of her life, both were lost souls trying to find a place to call home. Curly needs his MC brothers and Brooke was happy with her dogs. When they begin to open up to each other…Oh My!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 *fans self* (especially the pool scene 💦)
This was everything plus more, we had plenty of heat, deep feels, edgy storyline and tension to keep you gripped into turning the pages. I feel my heart is yet again going to fall hard for the boys & gals of Hell’s Handlers Florida MC ❤️
“Needing someone else once in a while doesn’t make you weak. Letting a man help you, participate in your life, and share your burdens doesn’t mean you are giving up your independence or losing your identity”.
This was such a wonderful story about starting over and taking chances with a dash of suspense that keeps you hooked till the end! Lilly is an awesome storyteller - the book is fast paced, well written, and has such wonderful characters! Both the FMC and the MMC are over 40, have tons of baggage. Both are starting over, looking for no one, but manage to find each other and a chance at happiness if they’re willing to give in to their feelings. Brooke is just a perfect compliment to Curly and who he needs by his side while he leads this new club. She has a strong personality, quick witted, and a total mama bear for those she cares about. Curley is a bit of a short tempered, dirty talking grump, but is all gooey center for Brooke unless she’s in danger. Curly is the long-awaited first book in Lilly Atlas’s the Hell’s Handlers MC Florida Chapter. Curly was initially introduced in Little Jack and it was just wonderful to see him get his own story. I can’t wait to see who gets their story next!
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: Instalust to love Angst: 😰😰 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Triggers: none
It pains me to rate this so low. Anyone who knows me knows I love Lilly Atlas’s books. This one wasn’t bad. When I seen she was making a new charter I was STOKED!! The Hell’s Handlers was one of my favorite series. Then I started reading the book and I was so disappointed by the end. This book is so unlike Lilly. I’ve been reading ARC’s for her for over a year now and I don’t think I’ve ever had one this bad. Not sure if she just didn’t send them out for this book or what but the errors in this book were not like her AT ALL!! I’m use to one here and there but this one seemed like it was every other page a word missing or the sentence just not making sense. Then she kept changing the names of the characters not just one but several characters and multiple times. Hopefully she fixes this soon cause this wasn’t a bad book at all. I enjoyed it just have to get past the errors I feel bad rating it so low but if she fixes these things I will definitely change my rating. Hoping she sees this and fixes them ASAP!
4.3 stars. Loved this. Both of them were frustratingly stubborn and refused to acknowledge their feelings for each other for waaay too long. But I loved the growth and the way each of them lifted the other up when they could.
The sex was hot and I loved the way Curly brought Brooke out of her shell, and his dirty talk was fucking smokin’.
Make sure you check trigger/content warnings before diving in here, too. Brooke was in a really shitty, abusive relationship for over a decade before meeting Curly and it is talked about quite a bit because she’s still healing after everything she went through. Plus the whole time, they’re going after a dog fighting ring, so there’s animal abuse, too, which is always hard to read for most people.
Still, I loved it. I’m so glad I picked it up. Their relationship, the new found family that they slowly build together. That ending was just perfect.
I love this author’s writing style… the book sucks you in and takes you on a wild ride with our H curly and his Mc. I love the romance it wasn’t easy but their love was real
Oh Brooke... I liked you but you were annoying sometimes. I get that it's exactly the image Lilly Atlas wanted to portray so it is fine... But boy oh boy did I want to shake you sometimes... And gurl, being 41 is NOT the end of the world!!! LOL
Curly oh Curly... A bit impulsive sometimes?! But its ok I guess. We love moody unpredictable alphas.
For me, 1st books of series are always a bit tough to read. There's so much info and new characters to process as well as the storyline...
I was hoping to see more of the other Handlers, specially at the ceremony. Holly called and said everyone would be there... I was so excited... I also would have loved to read about the new guys getting branded... Did Ty cursed like there's no tomorrow? Did Scott take it like a champ?
So, it was good... and I can't wait for the other stories!!! :)
I have enjoyed so many of her books and was excited to see a new release. I am disappointed in this story in that she seemed to use a lot of filler repeating through out the book each of H/h past. Ended up skipping through pages of dialog that added nothing to the story. Story had promise, just missed the mark for me.
The hero Curly was a fun guy to get to know despite his shitty past. I liked him a whole lot and liked seeing him get his HEA.
I enjoyed meeting the new MC guys too. I'm hoping their books are good.
The heroine Brooke was okay. I'll be honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of hers but I think some of that blame lands on the author.
I appreciated that Brooke had been through some shit. Married ten years to an emotionally and verbally abusive man before finally breaking free. Learning how to trust her instincts and be self sufficient again. Trying to regain confidence in herself and allowing others into her life. Trusting others in general. I got it. I did. I respected her journey and I did admire her strength.
But.. and there's always a but here...
I had issues with a couple of things, and specifically in regards to the heroine Brooke... She was a little too stupid at times for my liking.
As I said, I understood her past and why she had such a hard time trusting others and put so much importance on being independent and relying on no one. I really did. What I didn't like or appreciate was how stupid she acted because of her silly pride and her ridiculous insecurity about losing her independence. She absolutely did not want anyone else having a say or any control over her or her life. And I understand where she was coming from but and this is a big but... The fact she put herself in danger because of her need to do every damn thing herself and her choosing to sit on her throne of denial thinking the situation wasn't as bad as it seemed and she had it under control infuriated me.
I absolutely loathe when heroines do dumb shit like this. For as intelligent as she came across it made her look really fucking stupid. I hated it tbh.
But I will admit what saved the book a bit for me with that stubborn independent streak of Brooke's was the fact her best friend Nancy laid into her so hard when she found out she was being threatened and hadn't told anyone about them but especially Curly. I adored her bestie for that because she was telling her everything I wish I could've. And Brooke hated being put in her place. I loved it. 😂
And best of all was how Curly handled it all. He lost his mind when she nearly died and he was understandably angry and upset when Nancy told him about the threatening notes. And honestly he deserved to yell at her about it too. But he did it because he cared about her and he told her that. I love how he explained it once he calmed down before he left after that.
So, because Curly and Nancy spoke some sense into her I felt it redeemed her a bit in my eyes. Even if it took too damn long to happen.
Now another issue that actually nearly ruined the book for me was authors need to have the heroine hyper fixate on her age. She was forty-one y'all. She wasn't ninety. But the way she spoke of herself you'd think she was the crypt keeper!
I swear, we couldn't go one chapter without her dropping another dumb line about her forty-one year old body this and her forty-one year old body that. She always used her age in an insulting manner too. And almost always used it as an excuse like "oh I'm forty-one!" Like that was it. That was the excuse not to wear a bikini her friend suggested How incredibly dumb to have the heroine so hyperfocused on her age being some sort of issue when the hero was forty-six himself.
I hated it. What was the point of having her fixate on her age like that?? Such a double standard too! Because you can bet we sure as shit didn't read about Curly doing the same with his age. Nah, not the fit, handsome and tattooed biker. Never that. He can't be insecure about his age the way a woman is. 🙄
I also wasn't a fan of her making assumptions about Curly. Imagining him with some young twenty something with perky tits and smooth unblemished skin etc. Thinking no way could he be interested in her and her few stretch marks, thigh cellulite or her "forty-one year old tits" 🙈🤦🏻♀️ But if she wanted to just assume he'd be chasing women half his age after just meeting him I guess she deserved to be insecure about it.
Honestly, I just didn't understand the focus on her age. Given how women obsess over their age more than men anyway I didn't find it relatable or humorous. I found it tiresome and I wanted to smack her. I couldn't understand why she tried to use her age as an excuse like that'd be why he wouldn't be interested in her.
Especially because of how during any time spent with Curly, particularly when things turned more intimate, how Brooke would ruin the entire scene. I would roll my eyes and pray for a POV change asap because I was done with her whining about her body. Oh it wasn't just because she had normal insecurities that all women experience but that she'd phrase it like it was her age's fault. My forty-one year old breasts will droop in his face. My forty-one year old stomach pooch. That despite my forty-one year old body he still acted like she was the best thing he'd ever seen.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
This crap happened all the way till the epilogue. Ridiculous!
Sure, maybe if this had been a younger man/older woman trope I'd have understood that particular way of thinking and the extreme fixation on her age. But it wasn't.
And yeah, as I said with how her ex-husband abused her I did understand why she was insecure about her looks or her stretch marks because she could never satisfy him no matter how she changed her body. And because of that I could excuse SOME of her behavior or thoughts but the age thing...nah. The author needed to lay off. It was overkill.
Plus, the having Brooke use her "need for independence" as an excuse to make stupid choices was so painful. Yes, let's have a grown ass woman not once, but multiple times choose not to go to the hero Curly when she got her first threatening note but also when she got them for multiple days in a row including them smashing her new security cameras.
I mean...wow. I seriously lost so much respect for her and her intelligence. Who does that?
Yes, going to the cops was out of the question because they were crooked and in on the dog fighting but to outright put herself in danger by not seeking help? All because wittle old Brooke didn't want to rely on a man again? All I thought was: Good for you dumbass! I hope your "independence" is worth leaving yourself open to be harassed by a nut job and possibly hurt all for your precious independence. 😂
And y'all wonder why I have so many issues with how heroines are written by these authors. This is why.
Maybe I’m just not as much of an MC fan as I used to be… Not sure if I’ll carry on with the series.
Tropes: MC romance
Triggers: Mentions of dog fights, violence (but nothing too hardcore)
Liked: I loved how the FMC wasn’t 19 years old! It was great to read a romance between two 40+ characters! Plus some of the spicy scenes were spicing!
Disliked: I’m getting really bored of manwhore MMCs and FMCs who have only had terrible sex and are on a long term dry spell. I get MC romances tend to have very experienced MMCs from all the club women, but can’t we have a badass FMC who’s also experienced?! I can get over Curly’s pre-jail manwhore-ing, but I really wish he’d been celibate in the short time since he’d left jail. It would have made the connection with Brooke feel more special.
OW/OM: MMC used to be a huge manwhore when he was in his old MC gang. Mentions he has slept with a few OW since leaving prison (which I could have done without). FMC celibate for 5 years and terrible sex with ex…

I am so excited for this series now. The original Hell's Handlers was pretty good, but I think this series will be even better. I'm glad Atlas did a spin off series of Curly, and his life after the false imprisonment for the murder of Holly's twin.
I've read a lot of MC books, but I haven't read one that shows the start of a new MC club from scratch. This one shows the whole process of starting new, finding a club house and finding members. I loved reading Curly's process. Brooke and Curly were the perfect couple. Their past traumas melded well. I'm also a dog lover, so this was especially entertaining.
I loved it and I can't wait to read about the other members.
Being that this is the first book of this series, I'll have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. However there were some minor inconsistency throughout this book that can use some major proof reading. Other than that the storyline was on point even with the inconsistencies that you still fell in love with these characters through their ups and downs. I loved how the author developed and steadily built up POV for both MFC and MMC of their perspective lives and backgrounds. Good job Lilly Atlas!
This was such a good read that I will venture out to read the second book of this series.
Curly (Travis) has just spent 13 years in prison, framed for a murder he didn’t commit. Betrayed by his old lady, his club brothers and the corrupt police, the last thing Curly needs is a woman tying him down. He’s set to establish a Florida chapter of the Hells Handlers - after finally finding himself amongst a brotherhood than means just that! What he didn’t count on was Brooke - and her fiery determination and independence.
I love an MC Romance where the MCs are a little older in age - and Curly delivered an exciting and spicy story, with the most rewarding HEA. 👌🏻
It’s about healing, growing and learning to trust. Both Curly and Brooke hadn’t lived a good life, the last decade, betrayal and manipulation twisted up their pasts. It’s a slow burn to get them together but I loved how sweet Curly is with her.
I liked this book but it didn’t have the same feel as LA’s other books in the Hell’s Handlers series. Not sure what the whole thing with Evan was about. Didn’t really have a place in the story. Also there were some errors throughout the book. This definitely wasn’t up to par with the other books by Lily Atlas. Hoping to see more of the Florida chapter. I really did like these characters.
Okay so I love this author’s books. Her Hells Handler series are my absolute favorite favorite, so when this new book was announced I was so excited. Another Hells Handler story. But for me I was a little disappointed.
I love my MC books and the fast action paced stories. And definitely the action and suspense that goes with a good MC Story. This book was a good story. I loved Curly and I loved Brooke. If you read the previous books you will know that Curly “Travis” was wrongfully accused of murdering a 12year old girl. She was the twin sister of Holly. He spent thirteen years in prison for this crime and then it came out that her father (who was a police man) framed him. So now he is out and was spending time with the Hells Handlers MC and then he asked Copper (my man 😊) permission to open a chapter in Florida (his hometown)
This is where he meets Brooke. Brooke had a not so nice past with an abusive husband. Now she is free from him but (annoyingly) independent and don’t take no nonsense from anyone and wont let a man control her life. All she lives for is her dogs and taking care of dogs who was rescued from terrible circumstances. Both Brooke and Curly are anti long term relationships. So when she finds out that there is a dog fighting ring right in ther backyard (so to speak) she dives in head first and gets herself into trouble. This is where Curly and his new MC comes in. And this is also the little bit of suspense as she gets threatened to stay out of it.
All in all this was a good story, I loved it. My problem though was there was too much inner dialogue, I felt that the characters were thinking too much on their own. I didn’t like that Brooke was so independent that she willingly put herself into danger. I liked that Curly was patient with her and he understood her need for that. But there comes a point where you are independent and bad ass and then you just putting yourself in danger because you don’t want to ask for help. Like I said loved the story. This was the only thing that annoyed me. I wanted more suspense more action, more drama. They had amazing chemistry and you definitely felt that they were good for each other. I am looking forward to the next book in this series, as I feel that the other MC guys stories are going to be awesome. If you love this authors books then definitely give it a go. This is just my opinion and I look forward to reading other reviews 😊 ♥
P.s Sorry for the long review ☹ and I might just be talking gibberish and everyone loves the story lol

Curly is the first book in the Hell’s Handlers MC Florida Chapter series by Lilly Atlas. I made a little mistake and started with this series first before starting the original series.. My bad but it doesn't matter you don't have to read them to keep up.
Curly is out of prison after 13 years for a crime he didn't commit. He's set to start his own chapter in his home town. A town he thought he'd never return too. With that in mind he hasn't got time for relationships or love nor does he want any of this in his life.
Brooke has had a hard life, after years in an abusive marriage she will never rely on a man for anything. She can do it all herself. When she meets Curly she doesn't except to feel things she hasn't felt in years. He has awoken things in her that she thought where long dead.
“I have a passion for rescuing abused and neglected animals because I know what it means to be one.”
While both try to uncover a dog fighting ring they grow closer and the sparks that fly from these two are of the charts and I couldn't put this book down. I loved both characters and all the secondary characters. As this is the first in the series we have a load of new faces and characters to get to know and it was very enjoyable. I really hope there is more in this series, soon. One little thing annoyed me and that was the author called on of the characters by the wrong name a few times towards the end. Editing is not something I generally care too much as long as the mistakes are few and far between but this was a big things in my opinion.
“I will never block the light that shines from you because basking in that light is where I belong.”
I will now go back and read the Hell's Handler series from Lilly.
4.5 stars I'm happy to see a new spin off series of one of my favorites from Lilly Atlas. I'm a huge fan of the Hells Handlers MC books and Curly certainly sets the stage well for the newest series!
As a man wrongfully imprisoned for over a decade, Curly has more than enough reasons to be bitter and out for revenge but really he just wants a brotherhood. After spending some time in the HHMC, Curly wants to set up shop but needs it to be on his own terms. Going "home" again might sound ill-advised but to set things right, he's got to reconcile the past.
Brooke runs a canine rescue and training program for one reason, she knows what it feels like to be broken. After a decade of being trapped in a gilded prison with a controlling, emotionally abusive and manipulative man, Brooke vows she'll never let any man have power over her again. Then Curly steals her breath and makes her knees weak. Even if she wanted to, (which she doesn't thank you very much) she has zero time to deal with her powerful attraction to the man, while she's trying to shut down a dangerous dog fighting ring in their town. When threats start arriving, she knows she's in deep but can't bring herself to give up her hard-won independence to ask for help.
Oh heavens, I loved this book. These two beautifully broken people fit so well together to bring about a stunning picture of HEA. The way Curly embraces Brooke's independence and sass was delicious and even as hard-headed and reckless as Brooke could be at times, he just loved her even more. Watching Brooke learn to love and trust herself enough to let Curly in was awesome. I adored the two of them and loved the start of the MC chapter. The guys are great characters and I cannot wait to see more!
4/5- Curly and Brooke are one scorching hot couple.
I loved that the couple of this book were in their 40s. I liked watching them grow from not wanting anything more than friends with benefits to learning to trust another person.
Curly was such a great guy. Everyone around him painted him as this cold hearted womanizing criminal ex-con. But I saw a big giant ready bear that loved his woman, made her feel important, and sexy and protected her.
Brooke was ok. She’s suffered from the I can do everything on my own and have self preservation. However she was relatable. Her character is my age. I have the same hang ups about my body and self esteem. I was able to sympathize with her. I understood some of the reasons why she was a bit OTT independent and closed off from people in general.
Lilly Atlas does an incredible job writing chemistry and building a believable relationship. The story was great but like I say about her books, they’re a bit formulaic. But it’s romance and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
One of my favourite tropes is MC romance. But something I love even more than that is stories about people protecting animals, so with the combination of those two Curly was always going to be a winner for me!
All I want to do is wrap Curly and Brooke up in cotton wool and protect them forever. Not too sure how Curly would feel about that but oh well! Between the two of them they have experienced enough trauma for to last a lifetime.
The chemistry between the two is so thick you could cut it with a knife and Curly’s protectiveness of those he cares about is so sweet and endearing. Brooke has a way of finding herself in trouble and despite her need to look after herself it’s nice to see those walls slowly lower and allow others in to help. This book is action packed with so many surprises and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I wish I could give it more stars!!! This book deserves 10 stars!!! Curly is the ultimate!!! I think everyone wants someone like him. He had me wrapped from the beginning. Talk about a sweet guy who turns his life around wow! Oh my goodness! And then Brooke, I love her and her love for dogs. With both of them and their past they just fit together so perfectly, if they can hold on through Prick & Evan. This book is so good. Now I can’t wait to see how this new MC chapter goes. I se a lot of interesting new characters coming into play here.
I get she loves to rescue dogs but being stubborn to the point of them all almost dying because she had to be independent was insane. She had a horrible marriage fine but don't let animals suffer bc you are too proud to ask for help. I am so sick of fmc that are supposedly strong/independent but really are so blinded by their own ideas of how they can handle everything that ends up with lives at risk and everyone overlooks the fact they can't handle it alone and thinks they are so great.
Thoughts on top of thoughts, with a side of thoughts, and thoughts for dessert. I know a book is doomed when I can't stand the h! I just can't enjoy reading a story where the h makes the new, good guy in her life pay for ALL of the ex-assholes mistakes.
