Bestselling author Hildie McQueen loves unusual situations and getting into interesting adventures, which is what her characters do as well. She writes romance because she is in love with love! Author of Romance in Highland historical, Western Historical and contemporary, she writes something every reader can enjoy.
Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from deliverymen while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.
Hildie's favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.
She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt, an unruly boy Chihuahua Pepito and a spoiled rotten girl Chiweenie named Lola.
The Eagle by Hildie McQueen Clan Ross of the Hebrides series #3. Historical Scottish romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but characters from previous books do make an appearance. Cait Brown is a commoner. She doesn’t believe that Stuart Ross will be allowed to marry a mere servant girl though she does love him. He proposes and assures her he will make a good home for her, then travels to his remote estate and proceeds to rebuild the crumbling fortress for his love. Time and distance takes it toll and Cait thinks she may have succumbed to his pledge of love a little too easily.
Poor Stuart goes through a lot to earn the love of his heart. She loves him, but is afraid of their differences. Sweet, sexy, and satisfying romantic.
This was very bland and boring to me. I didn't actually feel Stuart's love for Cait. He was pretty odd sometimes. Like when he thought there were three wives to choose from and he wasn't her about Cait but then he was, and the writing felt quite juvenile in this story and the other two were excellent. There is not much story. Founders maid, thinks she's pretty, then decided he wants to marry her. Off he goes to his lands to make her a home and encounters an evil constable who is overtaking his town and holdings. They end up with an HEA but I honestly didn't care. I can't believe this was the same author that wrote the first two. Just completely inane and way less passion. Free, safe and in KU.
The Eagle, by Hildie McQueen. I loved everything about this love story. I thought that the author did a wonderful job of giving the readers an intriguing plot, that had them wanting to know more about the story. I loved the few action moments in between the emotional connections that involved Cait and Stuart. I found the entertainment very exciting, and heart pounding on the few occasions where opponents clashed with Stuart and his family. The romance between Stuart and Cait was pure and sweet. They also had some steamy moments that left much to the readers imagination. The characters personalities were funny at times and other characters left the readers, hoping that character would get theirs in the end. I think that the writer did a brilliant job in the way she told the story. The book captivated me and had me wanting to read more at the end.
If you’ve not been reading this series, WHY NOT! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR GOODNESS SAKES?
That out of the way.
These books are awesome, Tense Angst filled Adventurous Thrilling They tick every box there is. The writing is just brilliant, Hildie has excelled with this and the prior series of the Ross’s, that this leads from. She keeps you thoroughly involved in the adventure from beginning to end, I’ve adored every one.
Stuart Ross’s book is excellent reading too. He’s an archer, a third son, and a favourite with the ladies. When he leaves his betrothed to set his own lands in order, she feels betrayed, can he get back her affection and trust.
I can’t wait for the next book, These brothers have me totally hooked that’s for sure.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
I hate to do this but I just cannot get into this story. It reads very choppy to me and the actions of some of the characters were ridiculous - I seem to be the only one who feels this way.
His is the third in this series, I thoroughly enjoyed the other two and was not disappointed in this one either.
Stuart Ross is brother to the laird but feels like he has no role. Cait is a serving girl who works for his brother to provide for her mother and brother. His attraction is instant and although she finds him attractive she tries to avoid him as does not want to used by him. Stuart does not give up and proves to her that his intentions are good and intends to marry her. But once he leaves to make right the land his brother has give him their relation is pushed to the limits. This book has it all love, drama, and a lot of misunderstandings. Once again it is beautifully written and kept me gripped to see how their story would unfold. I received a copy from the Author and leave my review voluntarily.
Tournaments, Feuds, Romance This amazing saga of the Ross clan continues with an intriguing plot and wonderful characters. Stuart is the third brother and Cait is the new kitchen maid for Clan Ross. We follow their emotionally turbulent romance story until the very climactic ending. There is plenty of strife and politics between the clans along with a rags to riches love story that makes for a very fast paced enjoyable and exciting story. We have reoccurring characters from the previous books which is a treat to see them again. This book had me feeling completely satisfied and looking for forward to the next book. A stand alone story with no cliffhangers. I did receive an early copy for my honest opinion.
I really like this series. I love series that are based on family and how they all are involved in each book. This is Stuart and Cait’s book. I liked both characters and their story is sweet. My main issues with the story was Stuart’s bout with self doubt. I didn’t think it went with his over all character. It just made him seem weak when I felt he was much stronger in self. Cait’s issues were mostly because of Stuart and her place in society. Over all I can’t wait to read the next book where Caelan finds his HEA.
I being generous in my review stars. What little character development is juvenile. The pacing is horrible. The attempt at writing the dialogue in a Scottish burr is abysmal. The plot is negligible. The editing nonexistent. I had hoped these books would get better as the series progressed but that has not happened. I see no improvement in the author’s style or skill. The only positive is that I get them for free with the hope that they will get better as the series progresses but I wouldn’t stake my life on it.
Not my favorite in the series. I was looking forward to Stuart's story based on his appearances in the first two books but this book was underwhelming. The story between Stuart and Cait isn't very memorable. Maybe since part of the whole problem is that they don't spend enough time together. It's weird. I don't know why Ross men make dumb choices lol. Hopefully the rest of the series picks up again.
"The Eagle " is book three of the "Class Ross of the Hebrides" series by Hildie McQueen. Cait and Stuart's story was a joy to read. My favorite thing was Cait protecting and not giving up on Stuart. I would have to say that this is my favorite book so far in this series by Hildie. I look forward to reading the next book because they just keep getting better and better.
my personal markers for a great read...1. smart and engaging writing, 2. Humorous, 3. sexy interactions 4. stories with family/friends
The development and interest in main characters and secondary characters was enjoyable. I really did like the H/H for this book.
I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series). You get series book characters, nicely written and enjoyable.
I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me). Badass women rock.
Movement of the book flowed for the most part. Book writing/conversation engaging. The Scottish dialogue wasn’t difficult to follow and there’s also modern vocabulary. Action packed.
Laugh out loud humorous moments.
Romantic /sexual content (kissing, oral and love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top, some ‘dirty’ words intertwined rightly in the story telling. Short story 2.5/5 hotness and steam.
Totally recommend author.
Will read the next book by the author.
You don’t have to read the book in order however I think you miss the true story of it’s not read in its order.
side note…i find there are missing/conclusion storylines in each book which can a little ‘sooooo what happen’.
Stuart & Cait. He's the 3rd son and is feeling like he doesn't have a purpose. He was gifted some land near the sea and was suggested that he go to the house and the nearby village to build his home and a life. She is a maid at the Ross keep and caught his eye. He was kidnapped and taken to a nearby laird to be married to his daughter (their betrothal was broken off by the laird) but his brothers and warriors showed up. The laird killed himself to save his sons. Another laird decided to send his daughter to the Ross keep to start a courtship with Stuart to unite their clans. But he had feels for the house worker. Even after he told her brother and his family that she had agreed to marry him, she was insecure about their relationship (people in the stations did not marry). She was accepted by his family, no questions asked. He went off to his land to set up everything but was gone for months w/o going back to see her. Again the insecurity thing had her thinking he didn't want to marry her and in an attempt to protect herself, she called off the wedding. He came running back to win her back and he did. The return to his land which is all set up. A huge storm hits and the village is destroyed. Stuart was missing and when found he was almost dead. It took him well over a month to wake up. Once he did, she told him they were expecting.

Stuart is different from his brothers and feels he has not suffered as they have after an unnerving attack left him bruised battered and rescued by his brothers. This was after meeting and attempting to woo Cait. Stuart was a very popular man there were 3 women 2 wanted him to marry them and only 1 he wants to marry! After being rescued Stuart became restless and insecure! Cait insecure and still in disbelief a Lairds brother would be true and marry her!? Cait has low self worth at a time Stuart needs to take an interest in his lands as there is a constable taking unfair advantage and mistreating the villagers! Stuart does inform his family of his choice of bride and they install Cait, her mother and brother in the keep. Stuart stays away months rebuilding and beautifying the home and lands. Cait begins to doubt that he wants to marry her and releases him! Stuart must figure out a way to regain her trust. When that happens tragedy again strikes the young lovers! This time its almost fatal! Can their love truly triumph?
Stuart becomes smitten with one of the servants, Cait, that is new to their castle. Cait is very befuddled by his attention and doesn’t quite know how to react to him. Stuart has been struggling with creating something of his own. He decides to head to the properties he owns after hearing things haven’t been going well. Before he leaves, he proposes to Cait and asks her to wait until he has their home situated – but his takes much longer than anticipated and Stuart hasn’t been very communicative with Cait. I appreciate the way the family supported Cait and didn’t discount her feelings. So many times, men’s behavior is explained away without consequence so it was lovely to see that not happen.
So I realized this was the 3rd in the series and had to read the others first. I have devoured them all in less than a week. At some point I thought how stupid men were in each book so it’s definitely relatable. All can be read as a stand-alone but I enjoyed reading them in order.
Stuart and Cait have an interesting relationship, a very strong attraction in a short period of time with some complications thrown in. This book made me laugh and even cry a bit. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I love the Ross Clan! Stuart and Cait’s story keeps the reader intrigued and wanting more. While they are from different social classes, Stuart and Cait find each other. They are both stubborn and focused on their families. Cait’s determination to provide for her family shows her strength, caring, and focus. Stuart is focused on protecting his brothers, but he is lacking something and is determined to find his destiny. When their paths cross, the obstacles that seem insurmountable also make them stronger.
The bond between these brothers is unbreakable but Stuart Ross has come to the decision to go his own way. With the help of his brothers, he will build up his lands and take care of his people. In the mix, he forgets the woman waiting for him to return for her. These brothers may be loyal but they don’t always make the right decisions when it comes to the women in their lives.
What a beautiful, touching story! The cover art is absolutely amazing and influenced me to buy this series! The Eagle is book # 3 in the Class Ross of the Hebrides series! You have a gorgeous brother of the Laird, a spectacular archer, who feels like he is less than his very muscular, large, brothers. Cait, a new servant captures his notice but will she allow his attention. Easy to recommend! Can’t wait to read the next one which is the jaded half brother. 😍
Stuart and Cait. Stuart is the 3rd son and brother to the new laird Ross. He feels somewhat adrift and can’t seem to find his way. Cait is a kitchen maid in the clan Ross keep and he is quite smitten with her. Cait is also smitten with him but feels unworthy. This story has everything you would want in a historical romance. A kidnapping, a rotten constable, storms, sickness, romantic complications and of course love. So far this is a great series.
This story is really good and captivating. Too bad the author didn't proof her story before publishing. There is a reason we use commas in grammar. They make all the difference between "let's eat grandma" and "let's eat, grandma!" One is a meal and the other is a statement. Other than the grammar issues, these are amazing stories!
This was a nice sweet little romantic story without a lot of drama. I did like the fact that Stuart fell in love with a servant girl. In those days most marriages were arranged and people did not often marry outside their station! It’s good things have changed since then. I could only marry for love! On to the next story. Enjoy
Loved this story! I was sorry when it ended. This was the story of Stuart and Cait and the rebuilding of Eilean Daes. Looking forward to Caelan and Glynis’ story!
Great story about a warrior who falls in love with a maid. Initially insecure Cait questions if Stuart could really love her. Through some tribulations they manage to find their HEA
It’s so nice to see when an entire family comes together in time of need. This story was one inner turmoil by both and filled with love. Great read, can’t wait for the next book.
Cait is a servant working at the Ross castle and takes care of her younger brother and her mother. She meets Stuart Ross in the woods while walking to the castle to work. This is where their story begins.
Though there are a few type-os, including the wrong date on the first page, these books are hard to put down. I've become a fan of Hildie McQueens book, & the series is a good follow on from the Clan Ross series.
I was waiting for a story to develop. It never happened. It was a story that started and stopped. The big drama was the main characters angst over trying to decide if they liked each other and what to do about it. Not anyway as interesting as the first 2 books.
What I love about the Ross brothers they marry for love. They all make some silly mistakes before they married their wife's. I loved Caits & Stuart's love story. I never expected the Constable to be so easy to get rid of. I was grateful it had a happy ending.
