A week ago, all Gabriel wanted was to graduate and settle into a boring but safe job. Last night he tore a man's soul out to save a gorgon.
He's never felt more alive.
But their victory over his longtime bully provides only a short reprieve. There are darker threats than greedy adventurers hidden deep beneath Lostbarrow, and more enemies await in the city above.
Gabriel's new life as a Dungeon Master has been filled with violence. But after bonding two incredible monster girls, he wouldn't dare change a thing. With their help, he might be able to last long enough to settle into his role, if he can recover the stolen crystal before it's too late.
Can Gabriel and his bonded defend the Core and track down the sorceress who betrayed him?
Dungeon Bound contains casual nudity, crude humor, explicit sex, sexy monster girls, a growing harem, a fantasy world with magic, game mechanics, violence, revenge, profanity, Dungeon Cores, Dungeon Masters, magic, home invaders, an exhibitionist, and a dungeon.
I really like the book, it's a strong and consistent sequel that is both amusing and enjoyable to read. Honestly, my only real problem is the fight at the end. I swear his intelligence felt like it went negative, it was actually the type of scene where I honestly hoped the mc suffered painfully for his glaring mistake. However, I do like the main characters a great deal and am otherwise happy with how things went and that everything has a happy resolution (heh...).
What makes this series better than standard harem fare is: 1) the strong female characters who have strong skills and personalities of their own, and 2) the strong emotional interactions between all of the characters. Yes, the magic, world, and plot are all very good too (love the technical aspects of casting spells), but the defining element in the story is very much “the feelz”. Action and sex take a back seat to the reasons *why* magic and sex occur, and while that all gets a tad weighty at times, it’s mostly a very good thing to see. Much too often fantasy action harems are just pulpy “wham-bam - lets go kill that man” stories. They have their place, but it’s nice to see an entry in the field where there’s time spent showing some real caring for each other. More than that, we see the weaknesses in each character, and why they need each other so much. It invests you in them, and in their story. We even see the flaws in the adversary characters. Nice. (I wouldn’t mind seeing Gabriel grow a little faster emotionally though.) Good humor throughout eases rough spots, and repetitive humorous topics reinforces the character personalities. I can see the growth - er - growing, as the characters advance. Good foreshadowing clues us as to what’s coming (sometimes) and the main personal conflict is very interesting. The sex isn’t fade to black, but it isn’t a page-filled painful gout of turgid detail either. It’s a fair balance. The battles (and wounds) are the same.
Overall, I’d say this is a nice (manga-like) fantasy-action drama, with humorous dark and harem elements. It doesn’t shy away from sex, pain, or personal demons, but it doesn’t wallow in them either. I like it, and I want to see more.
Book two ended up being less of what I enjoyed about book one and so much more of what I could have done without.
Having gotten to chapter 16 in book two I got tired of the endless descriptions of the girls. In the first book it was kind of fun to have the Gorgon be exasperated by the Hell Hound. In book two there was just so much that it stopped being funny. Same with the MC. In book one I could forgive him for being a bit of noob, now he just comes across as a moron. He continually obsesses over how sexy his girls are, but doesn't actually do much about it. When he actually makes decisions, they are usually snap decisions, because thinking hard. Usually though the Gorgon does most of the brain work.
I really enjoyed the second book in the series. The main character is strong and yet has weaknesses that he must overcome. As he grows closer to his companions he learns more and more about the world and learns that he has much to still understand. there is evil in the world that goes by the name of the swarm and it is not just this world but in many worlds. Will he become stronger emotionally physically and as well as mentally or will he fall into oblivion only time will tell. I hope I get to chance to read the next book soon keep up the good work.
I quite liked Book 1, and Book 2 is...more of the same really.
The plot continues to be a bit of a weak spot - we make very little progress, and keep diverting into big set piece battles that don't really seem to advance the larger goals.
However, the characters continue to be great, and the setting is getting fleshed out a bit with some interesting mysteries. I still wouldn't quite call this a great book (hence my 4 star rating), but it's very good, and I think heading in the right direction.
If you want to read a cheerful little story about a guy who got betrayed and is now kicking ass, and you aren't going to be too annoyed by the plot sort of ambling along and not making a ton of progress, then I absolutely recommennd this book.
The author´s inclination to write incomplete sentences grates on my nerves.
The protagonist still is sex obsessed moron and the book focuses too much on oral or carnal activities while lacking in real progress. The bitch in heat character is hard to stomach and the new foulmouthed character does not improve the quality of the story either.
I stopped reading when i came to the point when in the middle of a fight the protagonist wonders if the nipples of his companion grew firm...
I really needed the recap because it's been forever since I read book 1. What I didn't like is the story tells you there's a timeline and a mission objective but doesn't seem to get there. However the story does move quickly after the first 3rd and the characters are very likeable. This is a very good read and only one step in the series.
I really like the aspects of this world and dungeon. The story has a good feel and flow to it. The characters aren't unique, but they're fun and interesting. The main protagonist is someone I like, and he does stupid stuff for good reasons. Well, mostly. ;)
MC is an average joe who works hard and creates his own luck. He and his bonded are complex characters in what I believe is a computer game universe...don't know what the bade universe is like, but it seems it is ours according to the slang that the characters don't understand. Steady plot progression. Waiting on the next installment...
I love how much character development Bastian works into his writing. It's so good to see character relationships being the primary focus. Yeah, there are a few editing issues, but both this and the previous one are far from being unreadable (unlike the second Diablo: Sin War novel).
Great to see this series continue!! Awesome adult fantasy action well mixed with a really enjoyable fantasy adventure story!! Can hardly wait to see who or what gets added to his bonded next
I gave up on this series. Then reread the first one.It was okay. The second really picked up and the author knocked it out of the park.Cant wait for book three! Push through book one if you didn’t like it.The second book is really worth it .
This series dungeon bound. Is a fantastic dungeon style story. Gabriel and his harem of monster girls are great characters. Who's storylines make this book an outstanding example of it's genre.
Enjoying the series. The story is engaging, without the dry, stilted writing style that quickly gets boring. Nor is the story drowned out my overly involved game mechanics or over-the-top erotica. Looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoy this series and can’t wait for the next book. One of the big things that I like are the interactions between the characters and how they are both learning about each other.
This was a well thought out story. Great characters with excellent back stories to read about. Love the newest bonded Reyna. Love her personality. Keep up the great writing.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. Once I started reading it was difficult to stop. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth reading.
I gave up on this one after making it through the first book. MC either gets lost mentally or is stunned speechless every other paragraph because he's not emotionally equipped to handle any situation more complicated than "are you hungry?" or "what's your name?".
If you enjoyed book 1 I have no doubt you will have fun reading the second tome in the series. Some problems get resolved while we meet some new friends and enemies. On to book 4
Really enjoyed the book and was already a fan from book 1. Great pace and a lot of fun mixed in with some well written adult content. Looking forward to book 3.
