I must admit that I was in 2 minds about finishing this series of books. For the first time I took a dislike to the main character. I found her annoying, a bully and she does whatever she wants without a thought for who she is trampling over. I continued as the country, customs and food described were all new to me and I thought the writing to be descriptive. However I will not be buying an more books with this character in them. Although I may check out any other books by this writer.
She woke up her two young boys before dawn to do their homework, then takes them to her mother's for a few days. Mother gave boys one cookie, Celia said they will get fat. Makes her mother and young boys take a cab home from restaurant so she can deliver makeup. Over inflated ego. Just did not like main character.
The books were fun & interesting. Held my interest. Loved the ending. Glad I could read the whole series. I don't like when they end & I have to wait for the next to be wtitten.
This series kept me intrigued. I read them pretty much straight through. I liked that it was set in South Africa, the foods and speech was interesting. I was wishing for a visual. She always catches the baddies but at her great risk. Anyone who likes a good who-done-it will enjoy these books. I got as frustrated with her as her boyfriend though.
Difficult to solve the mystery. Good length. Great continuity between books. Very likeable characters with interesting interactions. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys light and short stories.
I enjoyed reading this series and learning about South Africa's culture. Ms. Owens is a character. I love the way Cece grew. I hope that there will be more books either by this author or in this series.
Like many cozy mysteries, this one features an amateur sleuth who has more curiosity than common sense. She's clever, though, and persistent. And probably very lucky. A well-written example of the genre, the series doesn't embody all the clichés, but comes close enough. Good light reading; I enjoyed it.
