This is a companion piece to H.P. Lovecraft's "Pickman's Model." Richard Pickman is a Bostonian artist of the grotesque, seemingly incapable of making the simplest of human connections. But can he make one with Abigail Peters? (Short story, roughly 8 thousand words, one full-color illustration.)
Moe Lane is a stay-at-home father who has been self-publishing books since 2020. He likes fantasy, science fiction, roleplaying games, a judicious amount of horror, and both general and alternate history. Eduard Karl Joseph Michael Marcus Koloman Volkhold Maria Habsburg-Lothringen (Ambassador of Hungary to the Holy See and the Sovereign Order of Malta) once remarked of him, "Rarely anybody has grasped that well what the Habsburgs are up to." He is the most interesting man alive, at least to himself.

Moe Lane has another hit with this atmospheric horror story that leans heavily into the difficult-but-rewarding creepy without relying on the lazy-and-overdone gory. An enjoyably self contained tale, it walks the delicate line between pastiche and originality ably. It also hints at it's larger world without leaving dangling plot threads or boringly obvious sequel bait. (Take note, every one of you ingenue authors who announces their first novel is 'The Start of a New Trilogy!' - - that's not a selling point, it's a warning to the public that you have no ability to tell a concise tale like Mr. Lane consistently does).
