Tendring series book 2 - WOW GRIPPING!

This is a long awaited book 2 of the Tendring series and it didn't disappoint, a fabulous read it was too!
Just as book 1, took us back in time to the 70's a nostalgic vision of life and somewhat simpler life in many respects, but a much more difficult one for law enforcement looking at it from today's perspective with DNA profiling, mobile phones, CCTV cameras and the internet to name a few modern day additions that help in modern policing!

Distressed - takes us to 1977 Clacton-on -Sea, DI John Barton (Dick) and DS Cyril Claydon are just two of the totally believable characters who are struggling to dig for evidence on recent murders, past lies and cover ups. Trouble is evidence is pointing to DI Barton being involved in this latest murder, and the addition of a new department for sifting out corrupt police officers, seem to be out to get him, come what may!

Sheer determination, tenacity, intuition, leg work and sifting through reams of paperwork are the only things the team has at their disposal. This is clever and deeply moving writing which was obviously very well researched. Which begs the question 'are good policemen born or made'?
There's hold your breath moments, shocks, anger, irritation, smiles and for me tears along the way, by far the most poignant I think is the honesty that's needed at weeding out the lies to get to the truth. The author really bumps up the tension as the story unfolds which resulted in me being totally oblivious to what was going on around me until the shocking revelation on the last page. I didn't anticipate that ending!

Attention to detail is astonishing in bringing everything together in this wonderful gripping crime novel from days gone bye!

Nostalgia at it's best, and characters you're best to remember!
