Lois P. Frankels tekst leest enorm vlot.
I really enjoyed the examples through out the book. I just don't really agree that more than half of the "female" related problems are things I relate to. I work in an industry that has more women than men so our opinions are much more valued than in others.
‘Nice Girls Don’t Speak Up’ by Lois P. Frankel is a feminist book filled with tips to improve your communication strategies in a male dominated business world. Guilty of being too much of a ‘nice girl’ sometimes, the tips in this book gave me a different perspective on how to clearly communicate, while coming on strong, and remaining polite. Although somewhat dated, techniques like DESC are still useful.
Note: I listened to this book on Audible. What stood out to me here were the practical examples that Frankel pairs with her advice. However, some example scenarios were too long for their own good, and their point could have been made more efficiently, imo. I also agree with what she says early on in the book at the content should be used as a reference depending on what you need at different points in your life. Some info/examples were a little dated, but overall, I would recommend.
Overall, the tips in the book are common sense. There are some tips I could really use. I liked the way the author wrote examples to explain what the tips meant. Also, I liked how she wrote very informal, just like she was having a conversation with me. Nice structure of the book; at the end of every chapter there’s a summary of the tips given in there.
Dr. Frankel in this book gives concrete examples of how to navigate not only the business world but also the personal world of friendship and relationship. She has outlined methods which with practice can lead to smoother communications with those around you. I am so glad I bought this book so I can refer back to it over and over
