America stands in tatters. A decimated Congress scrambles for control, but the people aren't listening. Instead they're battling in the streets over 'X', an Internet conspiracy theorist preaching hellfire and lies.
Now reality itself is in the firing line.
Only Christopher Wren can stop the killing tide of lies, but Wren is broken. Battered physically and emotionally, he faces crushing questions from the past. X may hold the answers, but in a country rapidly burning itself alive, X is the one pouring on the gas...
The enemy is within. The cure is death.
★★★★★ "Every bit as gripping as Reacher, Bourne and Rapp - I've read the entire series twice!" ★★★★★ "Love Chris Wren! I want more." ★★★★★ "John Wick meets Jason Bourne, I read it in one sitting!"

Mike Grist is the British/American author of the Christopher Wren and Girl Zero thriller series.
For 11 years Mike lived in Tokyo, Japan, exploring and photographing the dark side of the city and the country: gangs, cults and abandoned places. Now he writes from London, UK, about ex-DELTA operator Christopher Wren - an anti-hero vigilante who brings brutal payback for dark crimes on an unprecedented scale.
Mike also writes science fiction and fantasy as Michael John Grist:
Christopher Wren is a a great character and larger-than-life hero. He's twisted by his family background, but rather than being like his relatives, he is trying to make up for all the evil that exists in his family. Sometimes the action scenes stretch credibility... but it's an action story, so roll with it and just enjoy. There are other fun characters as well, particularly the techno-geeks working with Wren. In spite of all the tension, there's a fair amount of humor. This is the sixth book in the series, and the author fills in enough of the background so you probably don't have to read them all. But I would recommend starting at the beginning and reading every one. You're going to want to anyway, so why not just binge read them from the start? Once I start reading one of these, I hate putting them down. There were a couple of great twists at the end that I didn't see coming. Mike Grist writes a series the way it is intended. There aren't cliffhangers, but there's more of a story still to come and I, for one, can't wait for the next book! I was given a copy of the book, but this is a voluntary review and my honest opinion.
CW injured and in need of some support to get him back in the fight. The Apex is brainwashing the U.S. by means of an app that promises freedom and his familiar mantra is being repeated country wide, from all types of people. CW struggles to get a handle on it and has to use all his wits, to try to get in front of it all - hard to do with a concussion and a double cross that has spanned decades.
This fast paced book had me reading all night, I loathed to put it down! The twists kept me trying to figure out, what could possibly come next but I was really unprepared for what happened and who it involved.
CW is a great character, this is a great series and Mike draws you into his great, thrilling and slightly disturbed mind, with every CW book he writes!
I received a review copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.
What a long and winding road this series has been. The deceit, misdirection and the absolute depravity of the villains in these books point directly to the depths that humans can go to just to satisfy their warped minds and egos. I was sorely bothered by the acts committed herein upon souls who would seek some meaningful life by following cultists. The writing was superb and compelling often causing some very unpleasant feelings and reactions to the violence and depravity. I guess that's a good thing if that's what you're going for. And knowing this author can achieve those reactions is a testament to the author's talent. I seek reading material that can run me through the gamut of emotions and thoughts. I get that here.
Fast-paced, tons of action, old characters return, a fast, fun read.
Several twists and turns in this one. It was great to see some of the old characters return and help Chris in this latest thriller.
Best of all, this is a stand-alone work. No need to read the others if you want to start with this one. But, I've enjoyed each of the six Chris Wren novels and highly recommend you read them. If so, start with the first!
I did receive a free pre-publication review copy of this work, however, this did not affect my review.
Gripping storyline following Christopher Wren back to where it all began.
Excellent storyline leading up to the confrontation with his father and unknown to him at the time his sister, which has brought him full circle back to where it all began. From book one to this book six,the author has brought to life an amazing character in Christopher Wren and his trials and tribulations in searching out the truth about his father and all the cults that he influenced, one of the best series of books that I have had the privilege of reading.
This was a fantastic read, tying up all the loose ends with a real sting in the tail, however I always thought something wasn’t quite right. Think other readers will find the conclusion to be somewhat of a shock. Glad to see that books will continue
Loved this whole series! It took a little while to get into the character, but 1/3 of the way through the first book I was hooked. I could not wait to see what Wren had next. This is a must read Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch on steroids. The tunnel rat detective rather than the painter. Looking forward to many years of Christopher Wren!
This was a great series. If I could have I would have tried to read all the books in one setting. It had every element you could put in a series. Terror, hate, love, friendship, very very bad people, pain gore, surprise, redemption. Looking forward to reading more Christopher Wren books by a really good writer, author.
This one was a real page turner and is a well written story. I admit this series started off slow and I was not sure of what was going on with the main plot line. I almost put the books away. I am glad I stuck with it because as the slow developing story matured it got more and more interesting. I recommend this series.
Is this the end of America? Can Wren Save us? Racing to find the heroes, and the enemies, lickty-split reading. Terrorists in charge, and no real leadership, realistically portrayed, scary future. I pray it's fiction....read and digest it. A thriller in the true sense of the word. Enjoy.....
The headline says it all. For me, there are no other words that can adequately describe the storytelling in this book or in the other Christopher Wren thrillers that preceded it. I simply could not put them down!
I like my reads to be at least a bit believable but the incidents this guy survived , come on. Full of Hollywood cliches. I made the mistake of buying all six and the bigger mistake of reading all six. I wanted to mark as zero stars but was not allowed to
If you like surprises, you have come to the right place. You already know that the action never quits. Family reunion and not in a good way. The X is on Wren's back and he is free game for anyone. People believe what you want them to believe if you tell them the right way.
Wren has lived through hell on earth but, his family and friends are what he cares about. He tries his hardest to save them. This series just keeps on going. Please read
Wren faces the past of betrayal for people he thought were dead to the biggest betrayal of all. A false identity is disclosed and finally the end result of this long journey to new beginnings.
I’m new to Mike Grist but not the genre. This was my 6th book and once again captured me from the first chapter. I’d easily recommend his books, well the ones I’ve read that is!!
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
Wow, this starts fast and keeps on going right through to the end. This has to to be Wrens best book yet. What on earth can we see in the next one I wonder. Highly recommended.
