--- Split between a lust for life and a craving for death ---

Astaroth. Motorcycle club president’s daughter. Virgin. Occultist.
Hunter. Outlaw biker. Loves a challenge. Ex-Christian.

Hunter knew he was in deep shit when a patchover went sideways, ending up with his prez dead, and him and his cousin becoming live-in hostages at the Coffin Nails MC clubhouse. What he didn’t know though, was that the girl he fucked just a few days before was the Coffin Nails club president’s daughter, set on having nothing to do with him after a creepy one-night stand in an abandoned church. Tough luck, because Hunter is not a quitter, even if getting involved with the prez's hot daughter could get him killed.

Astaroth is devastated after losing the two people closest to her. Unable to connect with her grieving father, she believes that a ritual described in her late mother’s notes might hold the key to bringing back the balance in her family. During the ceremony, she needs to get pregnant by the demon she summons, but why does he have to appear in the form of a handsome, long-haired, asshole of a biker, who just doesn’t know when to give up? She never intended to see him again, but there he is, a new member of her dad’s club.
And worst of all, the other man who appeared that fateful night, Hunter’s cousin, is also up for seconds.

Astaroth was supposed to die in nine months, but instead, she is only beginning to feel truly alive for the first time. But no matter what she feels for the man who crashed into her life so unexpectedly, if she ever wants her family to be whole again, she needs to finish what she started.

Kat’s the mean sergeant and survival specialist of the duo, never hesitating to kick Agnes’s ass when she’s slacking off. Her memory works like an easy-access catalogue, which allows her to keep up with both book details and social media. Also works as the emergency GPS. Agnes is the Merikan nitpicker, usually found busy with formatting and research. Her attention tends to be scattered, and despite pushing thirty, she needs to apply makeup to buy alcohol. Self-proclaimed queen of the roads.

I haven't read m/f romance in years. Needless to say, I was more than a little skeptical about this. But it's K.A.Merikan, it's bound to be different, and I said I would try.

This wasn't just different. It was out of this world! Don't believe me?

Satanism. Check.
Goth badass heroin with a split tongue that tries to summon demons. Check.
Occultism. Check.
A love story that begins in the middle of a satanic ceremony (and didn't THAT creep me the hell out). CHECK!

Asty. Wow...Asty is such a unique and original character. She's no damsel in distress. She's a badass, she's strong and fierce and so brave despite her young age. BUT she's not over the top either. Sometimes, in MF, authors try so hard to show that the female character is not weak and in the end, she turns out to be the asshole. Not here. Astaroth is strong, but she's also sensitive and vulnerable. And sweet....well, when she wants to.

Her religion is a big part of her and it shapes her actions. I tend to avoid books with religious content. But I really liked that this book and its characters didn't preach nor did they condemn. It was just there.

And yes, it was Asty that finally handed Priest his ass. Of course! I was cheering and clapping when she confronted him about his many fuckups. Someone had to!

A for Hunter...he was a big, BIG surprise. Yes, he was the super hot MC dude and yes, he had his sweet moments too. But what mattered the most to me, was the level of devotion and loyalty to Asty, even when he didn't understand what the hell (<---see what I did?) she was doing.

And for the Tooth and Luci fans...

Needless to say, I loved all the scenes that included them, but one particular scene....it warmed my soul!.

Overall, this was such a great addition to the series. It got me out of my comfort zone and it was so worth it.

NOTE: This book has no paranormal content.

The book was good enough, but I felt that there were too detailed descriptions for things and buildings, plus, the ending seemed pretty rushed. I wanted to see how everyone reacted to Ray's truth coming out, and maybe more about the baby... But there was a short chapter to mark the end...

I’m willing to bet you haven’t ever read a romance novel quite like this before…

When you imagine two people finding love I’m pretty sure you don’t imagine that happening during the middle of a satanic ritual, but this is exactly what happens in Split.

Asty is lost and reeling from the loss of the two people closest to her. In an attempt to restore the balance to her family that death has thrown off kilter, she sets in motion a ritual to become pregnant by a demon. The person who shows up however, is her father’s live-in hostage, Hunter. Asty is ready to forget the hot interaction since her objective has been reached but Hunter is utterly possessed by the lust and curiosity he feels towards this strange girl he found in an abandoned church. Asty plans on killing herself in nine months, so what happens when this cocky biker manages to force himself into her life?

In true K.A. Merikan style, Miss Merikan does not shy away from the uncomfortable details of the subjects they explore in their stories. This is a truly original book with it’s strange plot and twisted characters and while you may not always relate to them, it will make you wish your friends weren’t quite as normal. Asty had me enthralled with her originality, she was a strong character but at the same time she was so sad and lost that my heart just bled for her. Hunter was one smooth motherfucker and completely perfect for Asty. He flirted ruthlessly with his filthy words and fearless ways, he was so very sweet to her at times but he also called her on her bullshit at every turn.

There are many twists in this story and it develops at a fantastic pace. It leaves enough room for some crazy hot sexy times, amazing romance and moments of hilarity whilst also running various subplots perfectly. And did I mention the sex? Because it was filthy and nasty and delicious! The chemistry bet. There isn’t a stale theme or contrite thought in this entire book but it ultimately is an incredibly sweet romance.

“I’ve been possessed and bewitched. I had no say in falling for you.”

What a weirdly-sweet book. I have to say whenever I jump into one of K.A. Merikan's books I never know what I'm going to get. The Sex & Mayhem series as a whole has been really hit or miss for me. However, there was something about this book that made me want to pick it up! I sure am glad I did because despite the batshit crazy meet-cute our MCs have this story was actually, very sweet. The romance between Asty and Hunter is actually super wholesome and beautiful, and I was very much NOT expecting that. Even though this book has a literal satanic demon ritual at the start it was actually pretty tame. In fact I loved the way authors K.A. MERIKAN treated Asty's beliefs with respect and dignity.

Her life was being turned into a joke, and the perspective of death suddenly felt too far out of her grasp. Why couldn’t the final ritual happen now when she felt so deeply unhappy?

Ultimately, Split is the story of a young woman dealing with the grief. Over the course of SPLIT Asty realizes that it is okay to live and be happy despite experiencing such pain and loss. However, because this is a K.A. MERIKAN story of course there's gonna be some crazy shit - which is half the fun - to go along with our romance.

Hunter nodded with a serious expression, and even though this ritual was a test, something to prove or disprove her beliefs once and for all, having him so engaged in it, not mocking or annoyed, meant the world to her.

Another excellent installment in the Sex and Mayhem series!!

Asty was introduced earlier in Tooth and Lucky's book. She is kind-hearted and unique. She doesn't judge others and she is set in her beliefs regarding religion. She loves animals and under no circumstances does she want to date a biker. She is still mourning the loss of members of her family and by chance she meets Hunter.

To say that their relationship started off a little backward is an understatement. First comes love, then comes marriage....you know the story, but that wasn't the case here. After they first meet, Hunter is definitely drawn to Asty....but the feelings aren't necessarily mutual in the beginning.

They are both dealing with quite a bit in their personal lives. Hunter is in a new MC and he isn't really getting along with his cousin. He doesn't really associate with his family and he has some unique interests for a club member . He is doing his best to fit in and win over Asty, but Ray (his cousin) seems to be an ever growing thorn in his side.

Not only is Hunter trying to get with Asty, but he has to do so in secret as her father, the president of the MC, doesn't let her do anything without his knowledge. This makes it harder for them to really explore their feelings as they have to sneak around to make sure that no one finds out. And lord, do things keep happening that just throw wrenches into keeping them a secret. But that's the fun part of the book!

For all of you Tooth fans, there are some great parts with Tooth and Lucky. Oh how I love these two! Never dull on the action and Hunter and Asty were pretty hot together. All I can say is bring on the next book!

Jen's Review

This is the first time I’ve read an m/f from these authors and I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. Well actually I kind of expected them to feed my addiction and I’m happy to say they certainly did that. If you are a fan of these authors, and are even a little bit obsessed like I am, don’t let that this one is a m/f deter you from grabbing this one. Like their m/m books, these characters are rough, gritty and a little bit insane but their storylines are always an experience. Now, I’ll will say that this one wasn’t my favourite Merikan book but it definitely is one that compliments this series well.

I didn’t really get Asty at first, even though you can read this book as a standalone I felt a little lost for a good portion of the book. I haven’t read the first 3 books in this series so I hadn’t heard of her up until this one. At least that I can remember. So when I was first introduced to her I was a bit taken back. My honest to god impression of her was that she was bat shit crazy! There is something seriously wrong with her. She was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. As the story progressed she started to grow on me and I began to understand her. I really admired how strong and independent she was for the most part throughout the story and she really wasn’t crazy. She is just a very religious person who was deeply connected to her faith. A gothic chick who likes to perform satanic rituals because she is trying to summon demons… Why not? Definitely a first for me.

Hunter, well he was a different story for me. I loved everything about Hunter. I loved how much he felt a connection for Asty right from the beginning. Yes they most definitely had an insta connection but it wasn’t insta love. It was insta want, insta need, and she was most definitely someone Hunter couldn’t and didn’t want to shake. I loved how patient and understanding he was while he stood by her through everything. The sex between them is pretty dirty and scorching hot. Asty really owned her sexuality and wasn’t afraid to explore it with Hunter. Hunter was such a standup guy and always wanted to do what was right even when faced with so many roadblocks.

Fans of this series who have read from the beginning will be really happy to see quite a bit of two past favourite characters. Even though I haven’t read their story yet, I do remember hearing about them from past books and they’ve always intrigued me. I’m so glad that we get to see a whole lot more Lucky and Tooth in this one. Those of you who fell in love with their story will be so happy to see how their lives have progressed from their book. I am definitely going to go back to read where it all began for them. I found that this book was a bit different from the others, but it still held a lot of elements that we’ve come to expect from a Merikan book. While I didn’t Love Atsy like I loved some of their other characters, I’m glad I got to read her story. She was weird, and really different from any other heroine I’ve read before but I appreciated getting to see her and Hunter’s love story. I can’t wait to see what these authors will have in store for us next.

Astaroth has lost a lot in the past few years. Her brother and mother are both dead now, her goat isn't acting right, and she just wants to make her dad happy.

Hunter was kicked out of his family home 10 years ago for questioning the existence of God. He was taken in by an uncle that got him into the MC world. His uncle is now dead and Hunter, along with his cousin Ray, are not so welcome patched members of the Coffin Nails.

Asty makes some very questionable decisions in this book. At times I wanted to smack her. Hunter was just what she needed. He was freakin adorable!! Their ride is anything but easy. Misunderstandings and attitudes make for tough times.

This book is not a light read but I loved it! Life in an MC can't be all rainbows and gummy bears right?

Another great addition to the Sex and Mayhem series! I want to thank the authors for giving me an advance copy in return for my honest review.

Hey, they did it again. They made me an m/m lover love an m/f book. I was on the fence about when they announced they would start writing m/f books into the series. This is my third book under the Miss Merikan name, and it is my absolute favorite out of the three. They have grown in how they write m/f. I appreciate their effort and growth in becoming stronger writers in this genre. I have been anticipating Asty's book for about a year. It was so worth it. I don't want to give the book away too much, but Asty took her mother's advice to heart and resulted in some weird, sad, and unbelievable situations. But ultimately, it leads her to a happy life with Hunter.

This was a great/hot book to start the new year. I totally couldn't stop reading once I started. I love Miss Merikan's characters because they are human. They are fallible. But they never stop trying to be anybody but themselves.

Lastly, that cover is everything. Don't let the makeup scare you off. It is a romance—a good one.

Good

3.75 stars

I’ll be honest this one started on rocky ground but recovered by the end.

I like Asty but at the start I was thinking girl what are you doing, so many things could have gone very badly wrong with the scenario. I understood her reasons for it, but it was stupid on so many levels. but I did like the way she was once she started to get to know Hunter.

I loved Hunter even if he was just as stupid as Asty was in the start, but he owned his stupidity and tried to do the right thing, even if Asty blocked his attempts. I also liked the hidden aspects of this personality, it gave him something he could share only with Asty.

I actually really liked the showdown with Priest and Tooth. I find Tooth funny at the best of times, but when he really didn’t want to be there, that whole scene worked for me. I enjoyed seeing Asty stand up for her man and let her father know he was crossing the line.

All in all a good addition to the series.

I have been following this series from the very beginning and can't explain how awesome the whole thing has turned out. We first met Asty in an earlier book so I was so excited to read her story. I was a little worried that it would be too much with her hardcore beliefs but damn, Merikan knew exactly how break it down and make it all work out. This story was amazing.

Asty has had a lot of loss in her life and wanted to finally feel useful. Like she could finally contribute something and doesn't look back one she sets her mind to it.

Hunter has always had an internal battle going on with himself. He comes from a crazy religious background. He made up his mind about that as a kid and chose to live with his uncle and cousin which turned into a disaster, that has now landed him and Ray as part of they Nails MC.

When Hunter first met Asty it was such a wicked surprise, he clearly has other things on his mind that he didn't even get to get her number. But to find out she's his new Prez's daughter is like fate. He wants Asty and will do anything to have her. Even if it means shedding a little blood after her daddy finds out he's fckin his little girl. I absolutely love Hunters dedication and persistence of Asty. He never judged o laughed at her beliefs, even if at times he thought they were absolutely crazy o plain creeped him out.

I was so happy to see Asty come to terms with her own beliefs after seeing several things just weren't adding up. She was still able to find all her security and happiness with Hunter and her loved ones.
A great read, recommended. Can't freakin wait for the next biker book. GRIM. He who is into everything dark and amputation.

Asty, twisted confused, believed she was doing what her mother wanted her to do, her destiny, not realizing it was her mothers illness feeding this delusional fate. Until she realizes she found the one she was meant to be with, the one who accepted her fully. Hunter, his intentions were not the best at first but one look at Asty, and everything changed for him. No longer did he feel disconnected, unwanted, lost...what he found with the Nails and Asty was love, loyalty, his soul mate....family!!
This was fantastic!!!
Best series ever!!!

This is a breathe of fresh air. It's so taboo and I love taboo. I haven't really read anything like it. I don't condone Satan or the demon, but it's pretty nice to read about it. It feels awesome to step out of the box and learn about people out there who have beliefs illustrated in this book. The authors did a fantastic job. I enjoyed it very much. I love the feeling of getting twists from the genres that I enjoy - this book is very hot and heavy, virgin heroine, alpha biker, and a HEA. What else can I ask for, it had pretty much checked off most of my "must have" boxes.

Not sure what happened to my review of this one but Holy Hell! People ask for diversity in their MF romances and this one nails that and then some.

I'm going to need a reread to remind myself of all the things I loved about it but I will say, Astaroth is one seriously screwed Goth girl and I absolutely adored her!

Sex and Mayhem is right. That couldn't be a more perfect title to this series, and Asty's story is no different. I want to also give props to this cover. They couldn't have gotten a better model. perfection.

I read online they, Kat and Agnes, got most of this idea walking through a Polish forest. They should do that more often, because this is seriously some of their best in the series. It's also my first het book I've read by this author. Normally its kind of hard for me to fall into a het after so much MM, but I immediately connected with Asty and her story. I didn't want to put it down.

Asty, daughter of Detroit Chapter prez of the Coffin Nails MC, is a demon worshipping 19 y.o. who believes death is following her. Before her mother's life is taken by cancer, she's written down in notebooks a ritual she "wants" Asty to do. Going on this journey with her is something I've never read in a book before. It's intriguing to see this side of religion. It's also eye opening to see both sides, and when Hunter comes into the picture, we get just that.

Hunter, abandoned my his Christian parents for not conforming to their beliefs. Taken in by his uncle, The Rabid Hogs MC prez. When things go south and he and his cousin are to fold into the Coffin Nails MC, they get an unexpected surprise on their way there.

Their meeting was very, uh, strange to say the least, but I think that's what makes this story so unique and kind of magical. Well except for Ray, he's a character you love to hate.

Both Asty and Hunter have these exteriors and expectations of what others think of them, but inside both have a sensitivity to them. They're alike in so many ways, with each of their mothers being fanatics of their religions, even if their on opposite ends of the spectrum. It makes their chemistry that much hotter and more connected, being able to be themselves together. It's such an intimate thing and a joy to read.

Let's talk about the hotness level..its definitely a 5. These ladies paint a picture with their words that will leave you fanning your face grabbing for a cool drink of water!!

I loved everything about this book. The originality of the story, the characters, just everything. I do believe you can jump right into this book without having read any of the other books, though I highly encourage you try them, I don't feel you would be lost.

I absolutely cannot wait for Grim's book... maybe we'll get 2 weddings??? hmmm.... ((P.S. Grim isn't mentioned in this book, but its next and it will be glorious #eggplant #GrimisComing))

My Review of Split by Miss Merikan
My Rating 4.5 Gothic-Biker Stars!

When I began to read Split, I have to admit I was excited to see just what was in store for me. Asty and Hunter’s story was so well written and had just about everything I was hoping for. Action packed fast paced storyline, hot and steamy sexy scenes hellacious humor and the drama we all crave when reading anything from the Merikan team.
This book isn’t just a story it’s an intense adventure, one I’m happy to have taken.

One of my favourite books in this series.

Content warnings include:

I remember being vaguely intrigued but wary when I first saw Split about 2 years ago. Now I finally got around to reading it and I wasn't disappointed.

Asty is a wonderful character and I adored reading about her as a secondary character in other books already, and having her as main and POV character made it even better, even if she's dealing with quite a few things.
Hunter was.... not bad, but not standing out in any way either. The book could have been a 5 star read had he not done some creepy shit in the beginning.
Ultimately I wasn't too big a fan of how they got together/the very early stages of their relationship, but once that was passed I liked them together.

I loved meeting well known side characters again, especially Tooth, and I adored reading about Lucky and Asty's developing sibling relationship. And we got to meet David, who'll be a protagonist later in the series in Heart Ripper.

The plot around the ritual/baby was done nicely, the tension around Asty's father controlling her dating life was done well and resolved nicely, and the conclusion of the asshole cousin story arc was great.

"Death was following Asty, as if he chose her for his bride and wouldn’t take no for an answer."

Since I discovered the M/M genre a while back I don’t often foray into F/M but Miss Merikan books drag me back like a kid to a candy store.
I’ve come to expect something new, exciting and eye-opening every time and I never leave disappointed.
This time we got to catch up with a now nineteen-year-old Astaroth from previous editions of the Sex and Mayhem series. Asty has lost both her brother and mother in the last few years, and also it seems a bit of herself and her sense of worth in the process.
Determined to bring her brother back from the dead, to stand beside her father once again and lead the Coffin Nails MC, Asty forays into the dark arts with instruction from her recently departed mother via a set of scrawled notes, prepared to sacrifice her own life in the process so Bell may be reborn.
Enter Hunter and his cousin, Ray, who stumble upon Asty and become unknowing participants in a ritual to impregnate Asty so that she can complete the initial steps of her plan. To Ray she’s just an opportune lay but Hunter is caught immediately in her spell and she becomes more than just a vessel for his seed and he does everything he can to give her the best sex of her life, unaware that she was a virgin before that night.
Fast forward a few nights and Asty discovers that the demons who came to her that night were in fact newly patched in members of her father’s MC club, and Hunter and Ray, that they’ve been with their president’s daughter, and for Hunter in particular, that he’s still spellbound by her.
The pursuit of Asty by Hunter begins, with him having no idea of her plans, her pregnancy, the end result of the ritual she is determined to complete. Hunter was raised in a religious home and although he has left the flock to live his life as a bad-ass biker he still has deep-seated fears and thoughts about Asty’s darker beliefs and calling. Open-minded and wanting to please he goes along initially with it all until things come to light and he switches to full protective Hunter.
I love the journey that these two take together in this story. Merikan men are always that intriguing mix of good and bad, cocky but also with moments of vulnerability, hard, but also soft when it counts and fiercely loyal when they’ve given their heart to someone. Hunter is no exception and I fell in love with him and he stole another chunk of my heart, which always happens with their characters, more so this time, though, because cello! Asty took a good chunk herself and I just wanted to wrap her up in a hug and mother her and tell her that she is amazing and that everything was going to be okay.
I was so happy to see Tooth and Lucky featuring so much throughout. I miss those guys and love seeing how they are and that they’re still going strong and so madly in love. Every addition to the series just gets better and better in my opinion. There’s a great cast of characters and situations and each is a perfect standalone read but the way they’re tied in still gives series followers the continuity and cameos that keep us coming back.
I hope these two pop up again somewhere down the line and remind us that love can happen between anyone, at any time in your life, through any circumstances, no matter how unplanned, unconventional or unusual. There’s no age, religion or beliefs, family or those determined to keep you apart that can hold you back from each other once your heart finds its other half, and is no longer split, but one.
Can’t recommend this enough, even if you don’t consider yourself a fan of the darker side. There’s so much more to the story.

This was literally the whole package because it added every dirty gritty darkness of pleasure this world has to offer. It's my first occult book, but because the writing drew me in, it wasn't at all as hard as I thought it'd be getting into it. I immediately fell for Asty and Hunter, both so set in their own ways and at the same time just as lonely despite their strong exteriors.

Asty annoyed me a little in the beginning with her treatment of Hunter, but at the same time, I was fascinated, because all the things she thought of him were normal thoughts that usually don't get shown in books, which pretty much intrigued me with the new perspectives of such normal interactions. I especially loved seeing her attitude change towards him, seeing her open up and fall without realizing it until it was too late.

The only time the rituals freaked me out was when she cut herself a rune, so really it was more the cutting than anything to do with her namesake, Astaroth. I'm a pretty open-minded person otherwise, so her satanist belief was pretty cool to read, having a different side to show how she felt about her religion. It was nice, actually. lol And I loved Hunter's opinions because he was an ex-Christian. Just seeing all of their struggles with religion in general was cool. It added to the depth of their attraction to each other and what made them, them.

MC Romance is always awesome so the other characters made the reading more fun and personal. Lucifer aka Lucky and Tooth were ridiculously cute and I'm so gonna read their story. Their father, Priest, brought on the scary, good and bad, and Hunter's cousin, Mr. Sunshine (that's not really his name) brought on the crazy, despicable and ugly. This book is a high recommend for those who love romance, hot dirty sex (yaaaaas) and interesting characters with their own personal growth and maturity in very abnormal situations.

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH.

When I was asked if I would be interested in reading this book my initial reaction was: Yes. Yes I will. I had never read any of the other books by this author but as soon as I read the blurb I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I was definitely not let down. As a matter of fact, I have gone on to read a few other titles by these talented ladies.

Now let me just say this one thing before I continue: If you are at all put off by the occult, virgin sacrifices or have a closed mind to religions that you might find offensive (btw this is one of the best story that i have read that accurately describes this religion...Cudos ladies) this may not be the right book for you. If you love stories from the fringe then buckle-up baby, because you are in for a ride.

Astroth's family is in ruin and she needs a way to heal the wounds that have been left. When she calls upon a demon to sacrifice herself to she never expects the strangers that wonder into an abandoned church on Halloween night to be the one to accept her virginity sacrifice in return for demon seed. Never in her life did she think that she would see them again until they show up as the newest members of her Fathers Coffin Nails MC.

This is my confession: SPLIT is a tale of love, heartbreak, betrayal and putting so much faith in written words of someone that turns out you never really knew.

(4 stars)

Well, first I need to say this is technically Book 7 in the Sex & Mayhem series but it doesn't matter. Each book is a standalone, and some are M/F under the author name Miss Merikan, and some are M/M written under K.A. Merikan.

When I started reading Split, I have to admit I was a little wary of what was going to happen when the opening chapters involved a demonic ritual. If you think the same way, then please trust me when I say... Keep going, don't worry, just keep reading because Split turned out to be nothing like what I thought it would be and by 50/60% I was just turning page after page to see what happened.

Asty and Hunter's instalment in the series was well written, and had action, drama, humour and some quite hot sexy time scenes. For me, it did take a little while for me to get into it, but once I did I really liked it. Split gets 4 stars from me.

This book is a rough one. Like, I love the characters but this story just didn't work for me at all, and I acknowledge this is a totally ME problem and not really anything necessarily to do with the book? 1.) I don't do pregnancy storylines, and 2) deeply religious stories just take me out of the book. I read Heart Ripper before this book (book 9 in this series) and that book does get into religion, but it was less about David's conviction in religion and more about what's caused him to move away from it. This book is about Asty's dedication to her religion and what that means for her and her family. It's just a lot, and I wasn't a fan.

Content notes includes homomisia, violence, death, mention of a family member dying of cancer, satanic/religious rituals, pregnancy, abandonment, pet death, blood letting, cutting, torture, having sex with more than just the love interest, unprotected sex, sexual assault, and contemplating suicide.

This book is about Astaroth, also known as Asty. She is the Coffin Nails MC Detroit chapter president's daughter. We first met her in book 2 in Tooth and Lucky's book, The Devil's Ride, and she was younger then. I thought she was innocent and sweet - a younger sister. But a lot has changed for her since. Her older brother Bell died, and then shorter after, her mother. On her deathbed, her mother left Asty her journals, and in them, they contained writing about how to bring back Bell. Asty takes this to heart, and starts to follow the rituals her mother wrote down. The thing is, Astraroth and her family (well, besides Lucky) are Satanists. But Asty and her mother believed it more so than Priest, her dad. Asty found something to cling onto in the wake up her mother's death, and when the start of the ritual is about her having to get pregnant, fate brings her Hunter and his cousin Ray.

Hunter and Ray were first introduced to readers in book 4, No Matter What. They were part of a rival motorcycle club called the Rabid Hogs, and the events at the end of the book led to the MC patching over to the Coffin Nails and Hunter and Ray given over to stay at the Coffin Nails club as collateral. Ray was the Rabid Hogs's president's son, and the president had been Hunter's uncle who had taken him in after he ran away from his ultra conservative religious family.

Anyways, this book starts off with a Satanic ritual and Asty losing her virginity in a church to the cousins. It's WEIRD. It's Halloween and Asty doesn't recognize Hunter and Ray through all the makeup, and they don't recognize her either. There is a whole ick factor simply because Hunter and Ray are cousins? And because Asty does have sex with both of them later on in the book, for the sake of the ritual once she IS pregnant. If Ray had been a one and done at the beginning, that would've been something but there's one more scene afterwards that's very uncomfortable to read, and I could've done without all of it.

Then there's the part where Priest loses all sense when he finds out Hunter is the father of the baby (they hide the part about Ray and presume it's Hunter's) but it's ridiculous. Hunter can't catch a break. I know he loves Asty, but would it have been weird if he ran? No. The whole thing was over the top, and not in a fun way. I feel bad for Hunter, and I think Priest could've been a bit more chill about it all. And then we get a showdown at the 94% mark? That's...so late in the book? Overall, this book is just super weird for me and I did not have a good time.

I love Asty and Hunter, but maybe more so in other people's books and not their own. I loved what they do for Hunter's little brother David in Heart Ripper, when he needs a place to stay and essentially runs away from their parents. I liked that we see some of David here in this book, even if it means seeing Hunter and David's parents again.

It was fun to read the easter egg mention about Ghost, even though it really is like he's a ghost because the series never really mentions what happened to him and Luca after they had to skip town at the end of book 4. Don (Ghost's dad and one of the oldest members of the Detroit chapter) is mentioned a little bit here, but not a lot. So that was kind of weird after seeing how much he shows up in book 4.

And weird tidbit is that I think it's strange how many characters are named Mark in the authors's books? This series ties in a lot with the Guns n' Boys series, which makes it even weirder, but now we've had Mark (who is Hunter and David's dad), Mark (in book 10 in the Smoke Valley MC who is a prospect's friend), and then Mark in the GNB series (who is quite literally a main character). Have there been more Marks in the authors' book and I've just never noticed??? It might just be a favorite name for the authors to re-use, but now I'm wondering if I've missed a mention fo a Mark character in every single book they've written.

One of my major dislikes for this book is the pregnancy and it does take up the entire book. Asty doesn't have the baby until the epilogue, and it really does feel like the pregnancy is never-ending because I was so done with it. The ritual relied so much on her having the baby and what she was going to do with it and how that played a role into getting Bell back, and it was just super, super not my thing. I liked Stripped Raw, which is another m/f book by the authors, but this was a miss for me.
