Although I wasn’t familiar with Julia before, I enjoyed learning about her with my daughter! I liked that the book mentioned her autism, but didn’t make it Julia’s main feature because she’s much more than that. I will look for more Sesame Street books for us to read together 💛💛
Another edition of Sesame Street Friends. Very briefly touches on Julia's autism, and contextualizes it as just one part of her broader personality and life experience. Photo quality in this one isn't as good as in the others of the series.
I love these Sesame Street introductions. And I like that we are introduced to Julia's autism, but toward the end, so the reader may have already identified with some of Julia's many other relatable character traits.
This is an introduction to a newer member of the Sesame Street gang. Julia has autism, but it's not the defining feature of her personality, as this book explains.
A sweet book that introduces diversity within our world in subtle ways to children. Books like these help normalize differences and promote kindness. Kudos Sesame Street.
A very simple early introduction to autism through an autistic Sesame Street character. This is a very simple board book for very young children, and it feels like an age-appropriate introduction to the idea of autism (more for non-autistic kids than autistic kids, but I think it would work for either -- just note that they could have questions or not fully understand the concept at the end, as it really is just an introduction). This is sweet and well-done, and I think one of the only, if not the only, board book depictions of an autistic character that exist, which is very cool. As always, Sesame Street rocks!
