¿Te has preguntado alguna vez qué pasaría si tu organismo estuviera protegido por células humanoides?
High points in this volume: --Really creepy cold germs. --Fantastically simple and effective depiction of how vaccination works. --Tear-jerking pathos of follicle laborers enslaved by evil acne.
I'm still impressed by the sheer inventiveness of the concept. Just when I thought I'd seen all the variety that manga had to offer ... Silly me.
One thing I notice with this series is how self-contained the various chapters are. There's no overarching story, just isolated incidents. Characters recur, and volume 1 introduced the basic concept, but, that aside, these can really be read in any order. That's not as much of a handicap as it may seem. Despite the lack of ongoing plot development, it's still fascinating to see the interesting ways in which Shimizu portrays the details of the circulatory system within the context of his anthropomorphous metaphor.
And the cover of this one makes me grin. I love the contrast between the sweet platelet and the frankly dangerous white blood cell. Recommended!
Ahhh. This is good. The art seems to have been rushed, and therefore worsened in some spots. The story is so amazing and I'm finding it super enjoyable! The characters are the best. White blood cell is so sweet!!!
Really 3.5 because it's finally gotten to a point beyond the anime and I loved how drammatic Shimizu made a zit. The unexpectedness of it is what's great about this series.
Chapter 12 Sel Timosit Menceritakan masa lalu sel-sel timosit sebelum berkembang jadi sel T pembunuh, sel T pembantu, dan sel T regulator. Aku suka chapter ini karena lucu banget. . Chapter 13 Imunitas Perolehan Ini menceritakan tentang vaksin.
STOP!!!! When he helped her to not get super lost throughout the body or when he helped the little platelets AAAAAAAHHHHH WHITE BLOOD CELL IS SO NIIICCCEEE!!!!!
bruh, the manga is so much kinkier than the anime 😅 i'd be in so much trouble if i were a white blood cell because literally all of the germs talk like sadistic doms.
In this collection of immune system adventures Red Blood Cell tries to finally make it through a circulation cycle without help, the body fights off a cold virus, we learn how T cells mature and are chosen for roles, when mumps attacks Memory cell & B cell must come to the rescue, and the body fights off acne.
I know I say this each time I review one of these books, but wow do I wish I had these back when I taught Biology and AP Bio and Anatomy! They do such a great job of explaining how the immune system works in memorable ways. This one also goes over the path of blood through the heart and lungs and the circulatory system. And teens pick it up just because it is manga probably not even realizing how educational the series is. Highly recommended to Biological science teachers and students, and teens looking for more manga.
Notes on content: About 7 minor swears. No sexual content. There are battles between white blood cells and bacteria or viruses with black splatter after the battle (it's an anthropomorphized depiction of what really happens...your good cells will hopefully kill off bad invaders).
This got bumped down because I needed more Red Blood Cell. lol The Third book in the series is great and still funny! Check this out if you enjoy this series and want to know the rest of the story.
RATING: 5/5 If you like Acne, the Common Cold, and IN VIVOULTIMATE SECRET TECHNIQUE! ANTIGEN SUPER PUMMELING SMASH-INTO PIECES FIST!! you may like Cells at Work! Vol 3
QUICK REVIEW Volume 3 basically brings more of what I love about the series a hilarious, cute, and sometimes creepy collection of chapters. I really do appreciate the interaction with the other cells and makes it hard to believe this is all based on the human body. This is a must read for fans of this series!
REVIEW If you are following the series then it is no surprise that this is another hilarious volume! It's more of what I love in this series. I do like every major cell character gets a spotlight and we learn more about them and their relationships. I honestly forget that this is all based off of the human body but it works and the fantastic artwork makes you truly vested into this. I also enjoy that this volume has a cute-sy art style but can be quite creepy (see Chapter 11: The Common Cold & Chapter 13: Acquired Immunity). I must read for fans of this series! Also this has my favourite cover art so far!
This was a pretty fun collection of stories of adventures around the cell, but I was also a little disappointed at how they were all just one-offs with limited connection between the tales. So this volume felt a lot more like an anthology of isolated stories instead of really being part of an ongoing series. It's not bad or anything, just a little weird and maybe I was hoping for stories to somehow progress or become more complex similar to the cancer adventure in the last book.
That said, a lot of fun things explored in this book ranging from a story about the red blood cell fully traversing the circulatory system to the randomness of hair growth. Hard to choose a truly standout favorite, so maybe it was the circulatory one and how there were so many creative analogies needed to depict its different aspects.
Also, White Blood Cell is really growing on me as being rather attractive? Which is funny given what most gives me that vibe is the view of his single eye. Funny how art works out that way.
Red Blood Cell-san is determined to make it around the entire respiratory system without the help of other cells. After numerous times getting lost and having a guardian angel in White Blood Cell-san help her from the shadows, she finally makes it all the way around for one cycle! Then, we go to a different cell who is in his apartment, dividing himself to make another cell. He finds another cell who is playing practical jokes on white blood cells and Killer T cells. The practical joker turns out to be a rhinovirus, wanting to infect all the cells and cause the Cold. Later, White Blood Cell-san fights tirelessly to help the cells of a hair follicle fight off the bacteria that causes acne. Lots of other white blood cells have tried and failed, but White Blood Cell-san isn’t a quitter!
Yet another outstanding volume in this explanatory manga series. Each chapter is pretty self-contained, but it's nice to see some of our major characters continue on and grow as characters. The chapter on the hair follicle is one of the best so far. Reader beware - you're going to feel feelings for skin cells. The bacteria enslaves these skin cells, and they've pretty much given up by the time White Blood Cell-san comes along. He gives them an inspiring talk that could definitely apply to everyday life, so readers can leave that chapter feeling uplifted after all that emotion.
This third volume is the one that I would recommend to biology students the most so far. It focuses on the effect of a cold virus, the circulatory system as a whole-especially the heart, vaccinations, pimples, and how t cells are made. I enjoyed reading the stories and the drama over even one little hair follicle makes you marvel at all the things going on in your body every day. I got a scratch from my cat and imagined all the reactions the platelets and white blood cells were having. :) I adored watching white blood cell stalking red blood cell to make sure she found her way okay. She will never know how close to death she came!
Content notes: some light swearing, the science is high school level, but middle grade students can enjoy this if they are interested because there is more to it than the biology.
Gosh this manga series is so fun and the different illnesses they focus on are fun to explore.
Again the action sequences are fantastically drawn with so much to pay attention to and follow. The introduction of the new characters that embody the germ or fighter cells are always creative. The intermix of instruction and education with action and adventure combine so powerfully that this is what STEM could/should be because it makes you think about things in a different way. Sneaky germs bent on destruction and the little cells that need to get it together to help. Either way, I am continuing to read all the books in the series that are published for the English-speaking audience. I don't want them to stop!
Artwork sensei tentu sangat oke. Namun terkadang saya merasa ini sangat bagus, namun pada beberapa figur tampak digambar kurang proporsional hhe.
This remains a fun and accurate (for the most part) way to learn about the cells in the body. In this one red blood cell has only a minor role, the trials of learning the route around the body.
White Blood Cell is there throughout but even he takes a back seat to the story of how Killer t and Helper T grew up and how they followed very different paths. The other memorable one is a freaking out memory cell who is having terrible visions.
It's truly hard to sum up this oddball manga. Just know the art is great and the storylines make biology fun
