Christian self help book. It gives some insight on how you were parented may affect your relationships today and gives activities to help grow from what you learned in childhood to change how you act and react today in present relationships. A lot of scripture verses throughout.
I read this one twice. It was very good. (Very powerful). The basic gist is to see how you can make peace with your past, with the demons who make it up. Incorporated are spiritual principles which must be used to make the principles in the book effective. Things like think of Jesus when you are healing yourself of past hurts. It is a very tender-hearted book, with graceful writing and a pleasant, palatable writing. It is very agreeable, and I tried to take some of the advices to heart. A lot of it seems like common sense, but it is pleasant to read, so it’s like Chicken Soup For The Soul to read. - I read this book in the ..... My father was here a few weeks ago after 6 mos. of absence. He got into an argument with me and I had to go. This was one of the few books they had that looked worth reading, any good. It was about making peace with your past, special techniques that you can employ to do so. Particularly a troublesome childhood, and the effects of an inner childhood that lingers. It is pretty profoundly inspirational stuff. Written from a balanced christian perspective. - a perfect advice on how to make peace with a quarrelsome past. Told from a reasonable, rounded, Christian perspective.
Dr. Wright in his insightful manner probes the depths of a dysfunctional experience in childhood. And in so doing shows the impact that the dysfunctionality in the past can have on the present. He helps one accept the past and all of its pain, but not remain battered by its terror. He shows that forgiving your abuser does not mean that you give them a pass for their abuse. From his Christian perspective of writing, he demonstrates that when you find it difficult to forgive, by looking at the cross, you too can forgive.
I highly recommend this book which may now be out-of-print, but is worth finding.
This is a very interesting read that probed deeper into my mind and past than I had anticipated! And that can be a bit off a putting and scary! A couple chapters seemed to drag me to a mirror and hold my nose to the image and say: to you realize now?!?! I sensed a bit of over play to recall early childhood memories, slights, and parental flaws; but yeah, I get it. Maybe I should probe more into my reluctance to speculate each emotion and memory of my childhood; but I've got enough "today" problems to bridge! Each the chapters had plenty of definition, symptoms, behavioral analysis, and steps for working through the issues of that chapter to truly be helpful (NOT that this is a self-help book to eliminate counseling and therapy). But the greatest help was the author's insights on God's presence and grace in Christ to keep living life abundantly despite all emotional/behavioral hardships and challenges! I do reckoned this book, especially happy knowing that I will return to it again spending more time dealing with some of my past!!
This book is very informative as well as filled with details on how to make peace with your past. It is a well balanced book. The author infuses Bible scripture with sound psychological knowledge-based information to help one, literally gain healing and peace from negative past experiences that continually hinders the present and future life from being fruitful.
This book a must have, i have read it for a number of years now and will be rereading it again again. To me its a real counselling manual. Thank you and God bless you the more.
Very good book if you are having issues with the emotional baggage of past sticking with you. Good practical advice and some very good strategies on how to deal with those issues.
