About the author

Caroline Plaisted is a British author and editor with a deep passion for children's literature. She grew up in London and initially pursued a career in ballet, attending the Royal Ballet School. However, her love for books led her to work at a charity promoting reading across the UK, followed by a role at the House of Commons. She then found her true calling in children's publishing, later moving to the BBC where she managed both children's and adult books. After the birth of her first child, she became a freelance book editor and started writing children's books. Caroline also edited a magazine for English teachers and a regional publication about Kent, where she now resides.

Kalian pernah merasa keluarga kalian memalukan? Amaryllis feels like that. Ayah yang eksentrik dan ibu yang terlalu tua dengan pekerjaan yang berbeda dengan orang tua umumnya--dan itu tentu saja dianggap memalukan. Semua keluarganya ia anggap annoying, awkward, absurd mulai dari kakaknya Ben, Adiknya Hugo serta Bibinya Melissa. Semua dia rasa memalukan. Andai saja ia terlahir di keluarga 'Normal' seperti keluarganya Xanthe. Andai saja ia tidak berada diantara orang-orang 'aneh ini'. Andai... andai... andai.
Tapi... bagaimana jika keluarga 'normal' yang diinginkan Amaryllis ternyata tidak seperti yang dibayangkannya? Bagaimana jika ternyata pekerjaan ayahnya yang ia anggap 'memalukan' itu malah membuat ayahnya semakin terkenal? Apakah pendapatnya tentang keluarganya yang "memalukan" akan berubah?

Amaryllis Rosanna Lillian Flowerdew is an almost-13-year-old girl who lived with her weird family - Dad, the owner of healthy shops named "Flowerdew, Son and Daughter" (what kind of name is that???); Mom, work-at-home counselor, loves to wear swaying-earrings; Ben, the eldest, drop out before graduated from high school, he called himself street poet, rock musician, drummer in GOB (Get Out of Bed); Hugo, the youngest, wiseacre boy who acts like he knows everything; Giggles, the dog, that never giggle at all; Frank, the cockatoo, that curse all the bad words all the time. She has a best friend named Xanthe, the perfect girl who has everything - perfect body, fashionable mother and father, boobs, awesome house, and phone! Don’t forget to mention Nono, her grandma, the only normal family she has.

This book tells her story; her weird family, when she becomes bridesmaid in her aunt's wedding, dad's painting, when her dad goes to America to paint the president, and her 13th birthday party. The book is really amusing me because of the funny illustration also the "teeny" language style. I like the font style that suits Amaryllis so much. Although Amaryllis always thought that her life is such a bad luck, the moral story is that no matter how weird your family is, they will always on your side when you need them. So, try to appreciate their effort to make you happy; you don’t know what have they passed to make it all happen.

I loved this book when I was younger! The story is so good and funny, I’ve been trying to find this book for months because I wanted to read it again.

Buku ini menceritakan tentang kisah seorang remaja yang merasa dirinya aneh dalam keluarganya Karena alasan orangtua dan saudaranya. Ayahnya merasa dirinya adalah seniman hebat dan selalu memakai topi baret Belum lagi kemana-mana. Ibunya adalah seorang konselor yang lebih sering menghabiskan waktunya untuk mambuat puisi yang aneh untuk ayahnya. Belum lagi ke 2 saudaranya yang aneh perilakunya. Saudara pertan=manya yang bernama Ben, ia selalu menghabiskan waktunya dalam bawah tanah bagaikan tikus tanah. Saudara laki-lakinya yang terakhir bernama Hugo, ia selalu menghabiskan waktu-waktunya dengan eksperimen-eksperimen yang aneh.

Suatu ketika lukisan ayahnya dipilih untuk mengikuti Pameran Musim Panas di London. Ia sangat terkejut mendengarnya. Ketika ayanya pulang dari London ia hanya memperoleh oleh-oleh jas hujan yang dianggapnya konyol. Datanglah ulang tahun Amaryllis yang ke13. Ia berharap keinginannya terkabul untuk memiliki ponsel. Akhinya apa yang ia inginkan terwujud karena kado yang dibawakan neneknya berupa ponsel yang ia inginkan.

Dari novel tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa keluarga adalah segalanya. sebaik buruknya keluarga adalah tempat berbagi saat suka maupun duka. Maka sanyangilah keluargamu seperti mereka menyayangimu.

Nice book sih sebenarnya. Tapi karena tokohnya dibuat mengeluhkan apa aja, jadi bingung nih cewek sebenarnya punya masalah apa sih? jadi pas selesai baca, cuman bisa mengumpat, wtf?!
