Welcome to the Purple Sky World and 20,000 years of history in the Starfall Empire!
Verse's memories have been unified. He does not know why he has been reborn in this world, but the future is his to shape. He has to increase his strength as an Imperial Squire and achieve the full title of Imperial Knight, defend his city against the encroaching forces of darkness, and unravel the mysteries of the Kin, the ancient race that came before human settlement in this world.
Will he grow strong enough to save his city and his friends from destruction?
*In this story, you can expect Xianxia-style immortal cultivation, reincarnation, a focus on jade and sunset magic, sects, alchemy, formations, ancient races, and a hero who is evolving and changing to become more than he was before.
Our cultivation epic continues in this sequel and we see a kind of overhaul of the main plot. It is a much better rendition. The world-building, writing and characterisations all see a remarked improvement.
Books starts a bit slow but be patient. Around 40% of the book there a big increase in the MC’s power curved and a lot new secrets revealed to significantly increase the scope of the series. You will find out who the third soul is and you will be amazed. Want book 3 soon.
I have read both books the first was ok but nor written well the second book was like a different writer wrote it!! The series is very enjoyable to read hopefully it will continue!! I would recommend this book to anyone!!
A great follow on to the previous book. Author drives the story quickly, and you get a little more on other characters. Only complaint is that perhaps the protagonist gains power a little too quickly. As is the authors style, the book is well edited, and full of great descriptive writing. Would definitely recommend
In book two Verse is dealing with the aftermath of the fight with Autea and the Black Hand clan. Lord Jao is injured but still wishes to train Verse despite the pain he is in. Verse's friends -- Amari, the twins, the monk and all the rest -- are still with him, but everyone is licking their wounds before fighting again.
They don't have long. Lord Jao sends them out on another mission. There is a city to the south that is losing thousands of people a year. No one seems to know why, and the city lord there has asked for help. Lord Jao of course sends Verse and his team.
I'll stop the recap there. A lot happens in this book, maybe even too much. In most cultivation books the MC will gain some insights and progress before going off to do work or whatever else that is required of them. That's the formula.
Here, the author throws the formula out. I won't go into how Verse increases, just that he does. There are more battles to fight, and he needs to be ready, as these battles won't be anywhere as easy as in book one.
I enjoyed following Verse. He's a strong MC who can take charge of a situation while still allowing others to add to the strategy. On the other hand, the bad guys aren't fleshed out very well. Soren, who was in book one, seemed to me to be more of a placeholder for a bad guy than anything else. The two elders who travel with the group for the first half of the book rarely say anything except to stop when something is dangerous. I'd complain but I doubt we'll see them again.
The editing is good to very good, and while there aren't any explicit stats they are implied in a way. I'm looking forward to book one to see what Verse can do on his own (sort of -- read the book and you'll understand)
First book started fine until it started mixing in too much. There is mention of reincarnation, demon, devil , beast kin, elves, nanotechnology, dragon, ghosts etc etc.
There is no progress in cultivation and character, just some random events and stuff with spell and items that’s are more ridiculous than the next.
Book 2 even steps everything up with a even more ridiculous thing about the MC that just makes me not care at all and I DNF the book and gonna drop the series. Just hate when a cultivation series start with a ok plot that just grows likes chaos.
David north is my favorite writer. Between this series and aster fall, he makes me want more. In 2 weeks I've read all he has, and I'm left with a pit in my stomach wanting more. He's descriptive, has more metaphors tucked up one sleeve than you have hairs on your head, and builds rich and compelling worlds with fun and interesting magic systems, elder races, and explosive progression of his characters. Since I've read everything he has, I'm going to reread aster fall series before book 5 is released. Aster fall is the best litrpg you'll read and river of fate the best cultivation series. Do NOT miss out!
Cultivate, as in to elevate desirable growth and cull the undesirable. The process of winnowing, discriminating and analyzing, alongside preparing, growing, and increasing. Using select resources to channel and focus energy towards a goal, usually higher and more valued. Often healthy, durable and sustainable growth while discarding undesirable elements. Highly dependent on higher order characteristics, strengths, and wisdom. Semi-autonomous, for better or worse. Choices.
A highly entertaining installment in this very rewarding series. I started reading the first book in this series as I was waiting for the next book in David North's Guardian of Aster Fall. I did not expect it to equal the Aster Fall books, but I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in some ways enjoying this as much, and in some ways more. I was a bit disappointed in the abruptness of the ending of Sunset Knight, but hopefully there will be more books in this throughly engrossing series.
This story is well written, the characters are believable, the protagonist and his backstory are interesting, and the pacing was good and adjusted as needed. There were some minor grammatical errors, but they were rare and did not detract from the story.
end of the story? Not cool. Too many threads left hanging.
Now that the story is getting interesting, the book ends. Left a lot of situation opened and a lot of threads hanging. Enjoy the world building and character development. Not too happy that I’ve read the book and there will not be any more to continue. Got me hooked, but now I have to go through withdrawal.
I found about two thirds through the book, that it got really bogged down in cultivation detail and just when I thought I was through it. Bang, another major incident with what seemed like endless and not very meaningful detail that did very little to progress the story. However, with the exception of the above it was a good and enjoyable story.
I like the world and the mythology of the other races. I would have liked to see skill grinding or ability training but with so much packed into the story I could see why that didn't happen as much. Looking forward to the next book.
Ok, so a great series, with interesting, character development. A wonderful take and twist and a relatively standard format for the genre. The only issue I have, is now I have to wait for the next one.
I like Mr. North writing style, and the action of his story telling. I love reading stories that have MC with sense of character. It's a good series so you should check it out.
Really enjoyed the first 2 books. If you do get the chance to read the other series by this author do so. Hope the next books in the series comes out soon. Thank you.
A really good cultivation story with an MC that can be ruthless but looks out for those important to him. Lots of development and plot progress making an overall enjoyable book.
They second book continues the growth of the MC with a few revelations on himself. It is an easy read and an enjoyable story in the style. Looking forward to the next book.
Recap: MC finds out he's a dragon in a human's body. Old Yuan, his ghost in a seal is dead and he gets a new AI... It's a friendly artifact spirit. City Lord gets killed and the mercenaries have taken over the city. MC finds out the CL has named him his heir.

This turned out to be a very decent improvement over the previous book. Looks like it’s going to turn out to be a very interesting book series and I look forward to many more books along this one line.
Good sequel. There was a lot of action on this book. The dragon twist was interesting but a little much. The MC was already OP from his cultivation technique. A little of plot was covered in the book. Good read.
Damn one hell of a ride, the story just gets crazier and wilder as it goes. It was nonstop action and pure adventure at it finest, look forward to reading more from the series 😀
