A waitress. A warrior. Two women. Two worlds. One goal: to stay alive.
All Fara wants is to earn enough tips to pay the bills, somehow learn to stand up for herself, and eat a good cheeseburger. What she gets is a federal agent who is convinced she is hiding a dangerous device in her tiny apartment; and a new and unexplainable ability that she really could do without.
All Blu wants is to restore democracy to her world, preferably without dying in the process. What she gets is the unwanted attention of two of the most lethal leaders of Jurisdiction; one who wants nothing more than to kill her, and the other…well…it’s complicated.
Neither woman had ‘run for my life’ on their to-do list, but you don’t always get what you want.
Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska as an only child of parents that, between the two of them, had multiple degrees and professions (including, but not limited to: FBI, Priest, and College President), was actually cooler than I thought at the time. But being a child consumed by wanderlust, I left as soon as the ink was dry on my scholarship. I made my way to New Orleans for college, which instilled in me a life-long love of the city, beignets, and being overly suspicious of hot dogs you can buy at 3am from a cart.
After learning a little bit about school, and a lot about life, I left New Orleans and made the decision to attend law school. I wanted to save the world, and being without any actual superpowers, it seemed like the best way to go about it. That hasn’t quite worked out as I planned, but one can always hope.
I started writing novels as a way to pass the time during the pandemic, and stem the creeping existential dread of approaching midlife. I found that I love writing, which (according to my sons) makes me an author with a lawyering problem. That description fits somehow. I also help a couple of non-profit organizations in my community do their thing - saving the world in my own small way.

“Have you ever looked around and thought, how did I get here? Like, life has so many possibilities, but each time I make a decision, one path is closed off to be forever, and the older I get, the narrower my paths become.”

Y’ALL I FOUND A HIDDEN GEM!! This novel completely blew me away!! I found this novel because the author & I both live in the same small city so I wanted to support a local author… and I’m so happy I did!! The plot is so original and creative with engaging characters and was absolutely hilarious! This book is a beautiful combination of science fiction and action in a contemporary setting with a sprinkle of comedy and romance!! I don’t wanna say too much cause I don’t wanna spoil!!
This is the first book in a series and I can’t wait until the next book comes out cause I have to know what happens next!! Go check out this hidden gem of a novel!!
I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy a mix of genres and lovable characters, fans of “Quantum Leap” or “An Absolutely Remarkable Thing,” or those who love to support new & incredibly talented authors
This book took me on an adventure from the first page. The author has a unique way of moving the plot along while simultaneously making you feel comfortable and invested in the characters. I truly enjoy the relationship between the two main characters and each of their lifelong friends. They keep it real, keep each other sane and stand up for each other. The are the kind of friends we all want to have!
The two main characters share similarities that clearly intertwine with the plot, but also demonstrate how the environment impacts confidence and contentment. Blu is strong and self confident. She believes in her own abilities. I can't wait to see if Fara grows into that headspace. I'm excited this is the first in a series, so I can continue on the journey. :)
I received this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. I really enjoyed the fast-paced action with every page. Feisty, sassy women who stick up for each other with men as supporters bring a modern-day freshness compared to the women in distress type books. The writing is smooth and very well transitions that bring 2 storylines together. THIS BOOK IS AWESOME. I do not want to give too much away in my review but just imagine you are a waitress and one day you learn your mother blessed you with an ability that will change your life forever. Then in a different universe you are a solider fighting for a cause then your worlds collide. How are you connected? Read and find out.

An original and creative plot line. Great characters! They are so well developed that you are invested in their lives. This book is impossible to pigeon hole into a genre. It's a little bit sci fi, a little bit adult contemporary, a little bit comedy, and a little bit romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and can't wait for book 2!
A really interesting sci-fi story ... well, really two stories that merged at the end. Lots of fascinating characters, an innovative plot, fast and furious action, a budding romance and an ending that makes me want to read more. What more could you want? I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
Two women, both running for their lives in parallel universes. How many different choices does it take to totally change your life? The concept of the book was interesting but unfortunately I never really connected with the characters so I never felt that involved with the story. Also, the book is open ended and continues in book 2 which isn’t out yet.
Great read! Faced paced, strong female leads, great character development, a little dystopian, a little Sci Fi (but doesn’t make your head hurt), suspense, and a dash of romance makes this an entertaining read that you won’t want to put down. I love that it’s a series, too. I’m looking forward to Book 2.
I really wanted to love this book because I love the author as a person. I was nervous I wouldn't love it, until the last 30 or so pages, which have me completely sucked in and anxious for book 2! This isn't my typical genre read but I'm so glad I enjoyed it! Yay Kara!!
What a ride! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am glad I ventured outside my typical genres to read it. I liked how the author balanced the two storylines and how the storytelling was structured. Looking forward to the next installment!
It was one of those books that you keep thinking about once you stop reading and can't wait to find out what happens in the end! Anxiously awaiting book 2!
Well, that was fun! The title and the blurb hint at parallel worlds so it’s no surprise to have them appearing in alternating chapters. Both stories unfold with deft pacing, with action, explanation and discovery woven neatly together to keep the readers’ attention and keep them guessing. I enjoyed all of the MCs but was initially very irritated by Fara’s wimpishness, until the reasons for it were revealed and it made perfect sense in context. I was also irritated that all the male MCs were ripped in different ways, and the females beautiful in their own ways (and of course, the main female MCs don’t believe it of themselves). Hey, I know romance is a powerful selling point for many. I prefer a strong storyline first and foremost, and fortunately, this book delivered in spades. I definitely want to know what happens next.
Running in Parallel by Kara O’Toole Treece ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Reaching out a bit and reading a bit of sci-fi thriller. Dual POV but parallel timeline/worlds. An interesting and intriguing novel for me. I found myself really enjoying the building of the two stories that will clearly collide. Reading each POV back and forth started to give hints as to where the story is headed but the twist comes perfectly in time to set you up for the next in the series.
An interesting, fast paced book by a new-to-me author. Danger, suspense, a little romance, and more taking place in two different worlds. What happens when those worlds meet? The book ends in a cliffhanger, but I am interested enough to purchase book 2 in the series.
I know there is more to come from this story, so I am pleasantly disappointed to have finished this book. Great story concept and characters. Once I hit a groove reading it I look forward to my next sit-down to read, and read, and read.
