Ghosters #4

Ghosters 4: Mysteries of Camp Spooky

Rate this book
Camp Sapuki looks perfect with all the normal outdoor stuff: swimming, hiking, toasting marshmallows by the campfire, but when you’re a Ghosters kid, normal is hard to find.

Theresa, Kerry, Joey, and Elbie arrive at Camp Sapuki excited to be in the great outdoors: trees, a lake, cabins, archery, canoeing, swimming, hiking . . . They're not so excited about seeing the sad spirit of a girl standing in the distance watching them. They discover, too late, the place is called Camp Spooky. “Great. There’s like a million campgrounds in the country, and I pick the one that’s haunted," Theresa says with a sigh.

Come gather around the campfire with Theresa, Kerry, Joey, and Elbie as they roast marshmallows and hatch a plan to release the ghost girl from her hidden grave. With the aid of a trickster tree spirit named Bad Jack and a mysterious Native American ghost, their quest takes them through a beautiful forest and through a cave with wondrous discoveries underground lakes, waterfalls, and ancient drawings. Camping will never be the same without a few ghosts to liven things up.

Love, love, love to write. Especially stuff that's scary, tense and freaks people out. Doesn't have to have ghosts. The funnest scenes to write are the ones that hold the reader tight and stops their breathing. So fun.

I just finished reading this one, thanks to Diana Corbitt for my copy.

Although is meant to be for children I'm actually quite fond of this series! It can catch your interest no matter what age you are, and that alone seems like a massive achievement.

In this book we have our heroes again just minding there own business, in this opportunity going for summer camp, until a ghost is in the need of help. I don't want to spoil the book so I won't tell you more than that.

I like how the story progresses, not too fast but not too slow either. In this one there's the addition of a tree spirit, the only thing that bugs me is that we never know what happened to it after.

It was great having the different POV in three different timelines until they all join together giving sense to the story, it was a nice way of getting to know the characters.

Overall is a great story, and it managed to get me out of my slump, and for that I'm really grateful!

This was a nice quick read and was the perfect amount of spooky for the intended audience (middle grade). I reviewed Ghosters 3 last year which I really enjoyed and this one did not disappoint! The setting of a summer camp made it the perfect book to read on my recent camping trip! Although this is the fourth book in the series it very much reads like a stand alone.

My Rating: 5/5 stars
Release Date: June 13th, 2021
Genre: Children's | Middle Grade

Campfires, creepy cabins, and ghosts...the perfect little read in time for the fall season! Mysteries of Camp Spooky, the 4th in a series of middle grade novels, was a cute, inclusive, and fun read. And maybe I'm a weenie, but spooked even me a little. Thank you for the kindle edition of this book in exchange for my honest review!

I'm not normally one to read middle grade level novels, but I enjoyed this one. I will say though I was initially confused by the switching perspectives, but it all came together in the end, in a really great way too. The book was a standalone but did have a few references to previous books but didn't disrupt the flow.

Overall I enjoyed the story and characters and the twist at the end actually really caught me off guard. Would definitely recommend for kids, and thanks again for the copy!

I had fun reading this fun and spooky/mystery story. Though, not that spooky for me, I feel like in that middle-grade age I would have absolutely loved this series. It's right in my wheel-house that introduced me to so much more as an adult. Horror/Scary/Thrillery type reads will always be my favorite go-to's.

Something I can really appreciate with Diana's writing and story-building is her ability to be inclusive to a wide variety of individuals and really represents them well throughout the story. I love Joey, who is Theresa's autistic brother. He's always so to the point and kind of funny at the same time.

Kerry and Theresa's relationship is so wonderful too. The are so different, which makes it a nice look into how we can all be friends, regardless of how different we are.

Thank you Diana Corbitt for sending me a copy of this. I really enjoyed book 1 and book 4 was just as fun!

This has been such a fun series. No matter what age you are, these are perfect for the Fall and Spooktober season.

I love the friendship between Kerry and Theresa. They are different but enjoy the same things and so they go well together.

I equally love, if not a little more, that Joey is such a huge part of the storyline. It's good for kids to see a main character with autism getting involved, and being a huge part, in solving the mysteries.

This is a series I definitely recommend for MG kids. I think it's fun, it's perfectly spooky, and flows well that kids would stay interested.

I sincerely appreciate the publisher for providing me with a review copy. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.

I read, and thoroughly enjoyed, Ghosters 1 so I was thrilled when Diana asked me to read Ghosters 4. These books are about a group of young teens and their adventures which always end up finding and helping a ghost or two. They are middle-grade books but I enjoy reading them just as much. I hope there are more stories to come!

In this installment, Theresa, Joey, Kerry, and Elbie head to summer camp. It was a perfect read for this time of year. Theresa knew as soon as she saw the little girl’s ghost on their arrival to Camp Sapuki, that camp wasn’t going to go exactly as she had planned.

I liked the cast of characters. Joey, Theresa’s autistic brother, is always a favorite. I love his straight-forward, no-nonsense way of looking at things. He surprises us with his sense of humor sometimes. I think there is one of each of these characters at every summer camp. The descriptions of the camp itself and the interactions between the characters brought me right back to my own summer camp experiences. What fun!

The backstories of some of the characters was a great part of the book. I think my favorite character in this book is Bad Jack. He is ornery, mischievous, and comical. Who says the “bad guy” can’t be loveable too?

There are adventures, close calls, laugh-out-loud scenes, and some good scares all along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

I gave it 4 stars and highly recommend it to any fan of middle-grade, ghost stories, and camp stories. I will read anything else that comes from this series.

I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author for the gifted copy to review.

The ghosters series is adventurous, mysterious, funny, and have just the right amount of spookiness for kids. They feature a group of young teens who always seem to find themselves someplace haunted.

Mysteries of Camp Spooky has Theresa, Joey and Elbie going to summer camp. But right away, upon arrival, Theresa see a little girl's ghost. Oh boy! What is that going to mean for these kids?

Joey is an autistic young man, who has aa no-nonsense style that I love. His humor is smart and sharp and he brings this reader the most laughs. I love that his sister, Theresa, is both protective of him and exasperated by him. The sibling dynamic is very real. And, their friend Elbie, fits perfectly into the group. One of the best characters is Bad Jack. The guy is silly, ornery and laugh-out-loud funny. He is such a likable bad guy.

This book has all the things a kid should want. Silly characters, kids that seem real, great descriptions of place, witty dialogue and clever moments.

Ghosters 4 : Mysteries of Camp Spooky was such a fun middle grade spooky read. Even though I did not read the first three books here, I still enjoyed this one so much and it worked well as a stand alone. I would love to know more about the backstory too though.

The premise is a young teenage ghost hunters vibe and I was there for it. I loved all the characters in the group, and they were all diverse and had distinct voices here. Upon arriving at camp, almost immediately a ghost makes contact and asks for help. What’s a ghost hunter to do?

Corbitt does a great job here giving just the right amount of spooky for the right age range. I LOVED that the storyline went back and forth through time and told the story of Nancy’s death and how she came to be a ghost in need of help.

I’m not usually a middle grade reader, but this one really was an awesome read. I now need to read the first three and it’s the perfect time right?

I highly recommend this one - for the younger crowd that enjoys mysteries and light hearted ghost stories. There were some pretty creepy moments too and all the camp feels. It reminded me of my younger days at camp, minus the ghosts (thank God).

Overall I think this is great middle grade series for spooky season!

Check it out for sure. So much fun!

This is the fourth book in the childrens Ghosters book series. I have not read the previous books, but this did not matter. I found it can easily be read as a stand alone story.
This I would say is suitable for 10/11yrs plus. If your child likes to read on the spookier side then it is worth giving this series a try. It's quite a long book and plenty going on.....over 50 chapters worth of story.
Set at a childrens summer camp, which are familiar places in America. I did find some of the language and phrases used a bit annoying but that's mainly because I am old and grumpy.
The book also time hops into the past this does help you understand what is going on in the now.
We see Theresa and her brother Joey and their friends Elbie and Kerry get sent away to Camp for the summer there they come across all manner of ghosts and mysteries.
It's full of adventure, thrills and ghosts. A spooktackular read for children who do not scare easily.

Ghostbusters meets The Famous Five in this upbeat, fast paced adventures of the Ghosters at summer camp.

I was asked by the lovely Diana Corbitt to read a copy of Mysteries of Camp Spooky in exchange for an honest review.

Having not read the previous three books in this series I was unsure of what to expect. Having read this book, I do wish that I has read the previous books to understand and get to know the characters a bit more and to get to know what exactly the 'Ghosters' are.

However, this book was easy to get into, gripped my attention from the start and sucked me in. Great characters and back stories. Many twists and turns to keep you entertained and on your feet and a super sweet ending.

I would highly recommend this to a middle school child who is interested in Mysteries, thrillers and the odd jump scare. A great introduction as well to teenagers that are interested in solving crimes and murders.

The adventures of ghost hunting with the fun crew continues in Ghosters 4: Mysteries of Camp Spooky. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I can still remember the spooky fun I had while reading the first book by Diana Corbitt. ⁣
Theresa, Joey, Kerry and Elbie are back and this time, their intention is not to hunt / help ghosts but to have fun at Camp Sapuki. ⁣⁣
Of course, things don’t always go as planned. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The setting of this book really gives me the campfire and also a bedtime story kind of vibe. I’d totally read this before bed if I’m still in middle grade. Actually, scrap that, I’d still read it before bed while I’m in my 30s. 😂⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This was a nice quick read. ⁣⁣
I especially enjoyed reading about the Ghost of the Bloody Finger (one of the stories in the book) and chuckled to myself. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I love that besides it being about spookiness and mysteries, the book also teaches the reader about the importance of friendship, family and forgiveness. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Always a pleasure reading the Ghosters series. I wonder where the ghost hunting crew will bring us next! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I received a free copy from author, Diana Corbitt and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.⁣⁣⁣

The Ghosters crew is at it again, this time at summer camp! Theresa, her friend Kerry, her little brother Joey, and Joey's friend Elbie, are settling in for some fun at Camp Sapuki when Theresa spots the ghost of a little girl lingering under a tree. Over the next few days, the little girl as well as a few other spirits will give and receive help from the group of kids. Flashbacks to the 1700s and the 1960s help tell the story, and a pitch-black cave sets the stage for the final reveal.

These books are written for middle grade readers, with just the right amount of spookiness mixed with fun and humor. I do feel this particular book is best for the upper end of the middle grade range, describing a camp counselor as "boob heavy", talking about a male and female counselor sneaking off together at night, and mentioning the girl counselor's thong. Pretty sure my eight and nine year olds will have no idea what any of those things mean.

This whole series is great, covering ghosts and ghost hunting but also sibling relationships, friendship, and inclusion.

Gifted to me by @ghosterswriter in return for an honest review.

This fourth instalment adds even more spooky goodness, adventure, mystery and intrigue to the team of ghost helpers' world.

Theresa, her autistic brother Joey, and their friends, Elbie and Kerry are going to Camp Sapuki for a fun summer. But, as always, it soon turns into a mission to help a ghost cross over and find peace.

Thing is, there is more to the story and learning the truth might not be as easy as they thought. After lots of sleuthing, they manage to learn who the ghost is and from which time period, but how did she die?

We get some other points of view, which enriches the reading experience, from "Harry the Magnificent" and "Bad Jack". Learning how they fit into the story was so much fun!

An engaging read for young minds who enjoy a good mystery and some ghostly wholesomeness.

A big thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this book.

I am voluntarily writing a review to be posted in a bit. I'm still gathering my thoughts.

Update (07/15/2021):

Ghosters 4: Mysteries of Camp Spooky is a middle-grade novel that was released last June 2021. I'm thankful to the author for sending me a copy and now I'm volunteering to review the book.

First of all, I want to say just how perfect this book is for intermediate readers with its use of language and imagery. The plot is easy to follow and fun to unpack. The mystery is enjoyable to unravel and I like how the previous books are referenced.

Second, I like the representation in the book. Some characters are ones of color while others have autism or ADHD. The younger protagonists are delightful to read about with their bubbly energy but I wish the older ones held the same level of interest and growth for me.

Third, the book is quite a page-turner with its mysterious nature but I wish the story paced itself a bit faster and had more unpredictable resolutions.

Overall, Ghosters 4 is a fun ride and I hope there are more installments to this series because I want to read more of Theresa and the gang's adventures.

Thank you once again to Diana Corbitt for sending me a copy of this book.

Theresa, Kerry, Joey, and Elbie are excited to spend time at Camp Sapuki, ready for a week of outdoor adventure. But as soon as they arrive, something feels... off. A pale girl in an old-fashioned uniform watches them from the shadows, her feet not quite touching the ground. It doesn’t take long for them to realize that Camp Sapuki has another name: Camp Spooky.

Determined to uncover the truth, the Ghosters team investigates the haunting and stumbles upon a long-buried secret. With the help of a mischievous tree spirit called Bad Jack, and a Native American ghost with a cryptic past, they embark on a thrilling journey through hidden caves, shimmering underground lakes, and eerie ancient carvings. The deeper they dig, the more they realize that this restless spirit needs their help to find peace.

Mixing humor, heart, and spine-tingling suspense, Ghosters 4 takes readers on an unforgettable adventure where friendship and bravery shine in the face of the supernatural. Camping will never be the same again.

The ebook was emailed to me in exchange for an honest review.

I love how each book feels different and brings new concepts into the series. The books are about a group of children who can see ghosts and they try to help them resolve their issues for them to move on. It’s a middle grade series, not scary at all. This fourth installment has definitely been my favorite so far.

The siblings Theresa and Joey with their friends Kerry and Elbie all go to Camp Sapuki where stories through time tangle with each other. The ghost of a girl is stuck in the camp and their plans to help her always twists into the unexpected.

I love the setting and the multiple point of views, I really enjoyed the whole narration, it was quite different than the past books. It’s such a fun series, I especially recommend it for people who want to read something spooky but not scary this October.

I was so excited to pick up “Ghosters 4: Mysteries of Camp Spooky”! I absolutely love Corbitt’s Ghoster books! I am always instantly invested and transported into these stories, they really are such wonderful reads!

Corbitt’s characters are always so quirky and personable! Something I really appreciated in this adventure was all of the new characters/campers! I loved how unique each cabin-mate was, every character is so multifaceted and added to the plot. The dialogue is also SO great, I’m constantly laughing along with Theresa, Kerry, Joey, and Elbie!

I highly recommend this spooky read, as well as Corbitt’s other three Ghosters books!

I had a blast reading this book. It took me back to my childhood memories of going to camp and telling ghost stories. I can easily see my daughter reading this book when she gets older. Diana wrote a cute middle grade camp story that kids will love, but can also be enjoyed by adults. I can't wait to read more books by this author!!!

This was a wonderful end of summer story. The classic camp background with rivers, cabins, campfires, and ghost stories brought back all of the nostalgia of summer's magic. The author does such a great job with bringing her characters to life. They are vivid and energetic and make you smile, especially Elbie with his antics. I like seeing that Theresa and Kerry are growing up and a bit more mature in this installment. It's the perfect balance to the boys mischief. The spooky ghost mystery and multiple perspectives kept the story interesting without being too scary. I'd definitely recommend this for readers who love Nancy Drew, The Boxcar Children, Goosebumps, and Encyclopedia Brown.

This is a wonderfully sweet and slightly spooky middle grade book, perfect for a spooky October read! Kerry, Theresa, Joey, and Elbie are four friends who are also ghost chasers. In Ghosters 4, the friends are at summer camp and encounter the ghost of Nancy, a young girl who died at the camp decades before. Nancy wants the ghost chasers to help find her remains so that she can finally rest.

The four friends, with the help of a trickster tree spirit, Bad Jack, work together to determine what happened to Nancy and help her Rest In Peace. I love that the characters are such a diverse group and the multiple timelines and perspectives really enhance the story!

I read the first in this series last year when the author reached out to me, so when she reached out about the fourth book, I was excited to read it!

I received an ebook copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Again, I wish there were half stars with Goodreads. This middle grade book definitely earns 4.5 stars! This story follows some of our favorite characters from the series and some new characters to help tell the story of this camp’s long history.

I couldn’t have wished for a better story! Now that I have middle schoolers, and one of them being interested in spooky things, I think it’s time to introduce her to this series!

The friends are back in this fourth installment of Ghosters and what better place to get spooked, but at camp! Siblings Theresa and Joey, their friends Kerry & Ellie are dropped off at a Camp Sapuki. They’re looking forward to all the fun activities, but that changes when they see a sad looking girl. Of course their ghostly adventure begins when they help release her spirit. This is a quick and entertaining read! Thank you to the author for providing a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

🌟Ghosters 4: Mysteries of Camp Spooky- Diana Corbitt
🌟 Rating- 9/10
Ghosters 4 is the fourth installment in the series. The author was kind enough to give me the ebook copy of her book to check it out.So, here's my review.
Even though this book has 3 prequels,I had no difficulty understanding the characters or plot. The characters were well-explained and also had good depth. Our characters Theresa,Kerry,Joey and Elbie are kids who are going on a camp to spend their summer. Now, They can see and hear ghosts excluding Kerry. They try to help ghosts with their special ability. So,the book's plot mainly revolves around them trying to help a little girl's ghost.
All of their characters have distinct features and I liked how they showcased Autism Spectrum and ADHD through Joey and Elbie respectively. Each character is fun to read and their adventures are enjoyable. These books are mostly for middle graders. So, it was too young for me.I enjoyed it but I would've liked more if I was an young reader. The writing is easy and simple as per the target readers. The whole story was actually enjoyable and fun.It showed friendship, sibling relationship, forgiveness, kindness and bravery. It was a quick and fast read. So,I would recommend this book to middle graders(10-14) mainly but others can enjoy it also.

What would a camp fire be without a ghost story? In Mysteries of Camp Spooky the characters actually get to meet a real not-so-live ghost and have fun and adventures helping her achieve her goal. The story, the fourth book in the popular Ghosters series, is entertaining and very readable. It is most likely to appeal to middle grader readers.
