Jaded and still recovering from a broken three-year engagement, Bri Davis decides to go on an annual girls trip in the hopes of burying her heartache in the sands of Miami Beach. The trip takes a turn for the better when she meets the charismatic and flirtatious WNBA player, DeeDee Renier who immediately makes her rethink her life choices.
As they find solace for their personal pain between the sheets, Bri dives headfirst into a fast and confusing toe-curling romance she hopes won’t leave her stranded.
A creative soul, mother of three, wifey, and professional daydreamer, Deja was born and raised in a land of pristine beaches and palm trees called Miami. Her love for all things books started early. At eight, she wrote her first short story on a typewriter her mother gifted her so she’d stop writing on the walls.
Being able to share her stories has always been a dream and today, she writes steamy stories featuring queer and bi-curious women of color in various stages of love and relationships.
She writes strong characters who are unapologetically black, openly discusses trauma and HEAs are not guaranteed.
When she’s not dreaming up alternate universes, she’s hanging out with her little tribe, watching something where the world ends or restaurant hopping.

3.5 stars. A fun start to a series, sexy and with just enough of an emotional hook to get me to pick up the next one. Bri goes on a girls trip to Miami with her besties; she's reeling after a tough breakup and is determined to have some fun. She meets DeeDee, an injured WNBA player, and even though Bri has always thought of herself as straight, sparks fly, and she can't deny that she's catching feelings. This just had such a cute, flirty feel to it. So much about it made me smile; black love with queer women always gets me. I loved the banter between the friends; I loved how dashing DeeDee was with all her teasing; I loved the smut. It could have definitely used a better edit, but there was nothing major that pulled me out of the story.
Slow-paced, low-conflict romance. Felt a little like Brittney Griner fanfic, which is not a criticism. I love vacation stories, and this had a chill vibe but it was a bit boring. I wish the dialogue felt less flat, and we’d heard more about the heroine’s feelings.
This was so well developed. I love a good love story nd this one was refreshing and beautiful. It’s hard to find black lesbian books theat don’t uphold stereotypes but this one is beautiful
I had a good time reading this book. I found that it was well written and had good dialogue that flowed. The tension and chemistry between Bri and DeeDee is believable and sexy. I found myself wanting to see them in person. The sex scenes are steamy, sensual, realistic and hot as hell. I found the scenes to be detailed and orchestrated pretty well. I love the scene where Bri and DeeDee have a deeper conversation surrounding "touch me nots", it's a discussion that needs to be heard and talked about more,e as sometimes it's more than "touch me not". So I appreciated that there was a discussion surrounding that. All in all, I am looking forward to reading part 2 for the drama and what next unfolds for Bri and DeeDee. I'm hoping her friends make another appearance along with DeeDee's friends as well, and of course, more intimate and sex scenes :D This should be interesting
This book was amazing,. The writing was so clear, it felt more like a conversation than a story. Everything about this book is believable and true, even down to the love scenes. I can personally relate to Bri, the main character, because I went through the exact same experience, it was like I was living it all over again. The author really got it on bullseye with the details, emotions, and everything in between. I'm about to read the next 3 books in this series, I literally could not put this story down!
The story moved well. Miami girls getaway was a great setting for this special all ladies version of Stella got her groove back. It was a good touch to end the story the way it did. Definitely looking forward to the next one.
Such a wonderful story. I like characters and plot. Deja writes well and the story flows well. There is a good amount of heat as well. Read it, you’ll enjoy it!
This was a cute story, trying new things, creating a bucket list. I like that Bri was willing to get out of her comfort zone. Looking forward to more reads from this author!!
Loved every second of it. The chemistry, the spice, the friendship. I’m rooting for this relationship to go far. Ole buddy can kick rocks though. Sorry not sorry.
Every time I read Deja Elise I'm consumed by her story telling. I couldn't put this book down and can't wait to read part 2. Sweet and romantic. Highly recommend!!
think this is my last lesbian read. very vanilla and flat out boring to me. then the sprinkle of trauma should the end just seemed weird and forced. just not the read for me.
Bri needs a break, especially from her now-ex, so a vacation in Miami comes just as the right time. The connection between Bri and DeeDee felt really natural and I liked the culmination of the story that promises more. I was less enamoured with the exploration of Bri's sexuality. She is not completely unaware of her interest in women and is also not hiding her inexperience from DeeDee but some of her thoughts frame her actions as just born out of lust and convenience at times that left a bad taste in my mouth. And while it makes sense in context, it still squicked me out.
