If you like the idea that paranormals are completely driven by animal urges than this is the book for you.

If you expect characters with higher level thinking that are not driven by primal needs fed to them via pheromones then this is not the book for you. Driven by desire is fine, but this paints paranormals as controlled by their desires with no more free will than a beast in heat. That removes most of the fun of reading a book. This is a concept amped up to an eleven when a six would have been just fine. When all the men are trying to kill you and all the women are trying to bed you and NO ONE HAS ANY CONTROL OVER IT, that is no fun to read. That last bit is the nail in the coffin.

Liked it more than I thought I would

I will admit I was skeptical of this one, but I was hooked after the first chapter. It's not often you find a decently written book based in your home town.

Is the third book from this author that I am reading and the first I fully enjoyed, it could have definetly done with less mention on how big MC junk is but the rest was actually enjoyable.

Typical LJ fun

So nothing new here. Paranormal awakening. Werepanther that is uber powerful but vulnerable. Of course he is a babe magnet now pheromone's and all.Typical of the truth but a lot of fun to read. Good guy alpha male beats up bad guys and saves women. Doesn't seem to get old. However there will be progression as his abilities seem to be able to scale with experience and growth. That said the Werepanthers generally don't survive long so they have no idea what powers he will gain or inherit. This should be fun as it seems to be a lot of discovery on the part of the MC and even some of the secondaries. Looking forward to the next book.

Too fun for its own good…

Quite possibly one of the most cringeworthy books I’ve ever read. Ada is *beyond* annoying and Janine is little more than a trophy wife, but somehow, I enjoyed reading this.

Needs a bit more editing

The characters fell a bit flat with the poor dialogue and worse pacing in the plot. Good try for getting a novel out but overall needs a to be refined and edited a bit more. Good luck with your future books.

A Wild Romp Through Urban Fantasy That Doubles Down on the Harem Trope

Ever wondered what happens when a normal college guy gets kidnapped by moon-god cultists and ends up becoming the apex predator of the supernatural world? If that premise sounds like a wild ride, you've got the right book. Werepanther: Paranormal Hunter kicks off another of Logan Jacobs' popular series, dropping you headfirst into a secret world of monsters, magic, and mayhem. It’s a fast, fun, and unapologetically pulpy urban fantasy that delivers exactly what it promises: plenty of action, a super-powered main character, and a generous helping of harem-style romance. For fans of Jacobs' signature style, it’s a solid start. For newcomers to the genre, it might be a bit of an overwhelming introduction. I’m giving it a 3 out of 5 stars—entertaining, if you’re in the mood for it.

Key Themes:

The Reluctant Power Fantasy: Carter’s journey from clueless history major to feared "apex predator" is the core of the book. The theme explores the sudden burden of immense power and the instinct to survive and protect, even as he’s thrust into conflicts he never asked for.

Found Family Through... Attraction: A strong theme is Carter assembling his team. However, this is explored heavily through the series' prominent harem mechanics. His unique nature as a werepanther makes him incredibly desirable to female fae, shifters, and other paranormals, with relationships often forming quickly around this supernatural allure. It's less about slow-building bonds and more about power-dynamic wish-fulfillment.

Hidden Worldbuilding: The book spends a good amount of time unveiling the rules and hierarchies of this secret paranormal society. Readers get a sense of ancient conflicts, different supernatural factions, and the constant danger Carter is now part of, which provides a solid foundation for the sequels.

Character Analysis:
The main draw here is Carter Hatfield. He’s your standard "good guy" alpha-in-the-making—decent morals, quick to adapt to violence to protect his own, and believably overwhelmed by his new reality. His development is straightforward: learning to harness his power and accept his new role as a hunter.

The female leads, Ada (a changeling) and Janine (a succubus), are where opinions sharply divide. They are fiercely loyal and bring their own powers to the table, but many readers felt their characters were underdeveloped outside of their romantic and archetypal roles (the "abandoned" one, the one who "wants a baby"). They are fun and add to the action, but don’t expect deep, nuanced backstories here. As one reviewer bluntly put it, the paranormals are often painted as being "controlled by their desires," which drives much of the interaction.

Writing Style & Pacing:
Jacobs' prose is, as always, direct and propulsive. The tone is lighthearted and focused on delivering a good time. The pacing is breakneck—the action starts almost immediately and rarely lets up. This makes it a very easy, bingeable read. You’re propelled from one supernatural confrontation to the next with minimal downtime. The world-building is woven in during these lulls, but the priority is clearly on movement and spectacle. Some readers noted the dialogue could feel a bit flat and the plot occasionally relies on convenience, but it rarely detracts from the forward momentum.

What I Liked/Disliked:

Liked: The core concept is genuinely fun. The blend of a modern setting with Egyptian mythological elements (cults to gods like Kek) is a cool twist. The fight scenes are satisfyingly brutal and creative, and seeing Carter discover new abilities is engaging. It’s a perfect "turn-your-brain-off" adventure.

Disliked: The harem elements are extremely front-and-center and may be a turn-off if that’s not your thing. The romantic connections can feel rapid and superficial, driven more by supernatural pheromones than genuine chemistry for some readers. A few minor continuity errors (like a lost phone suddenly reappearing) can briefly break immersion.

Conclusion/Recommendation:
Werepanther: Paranormal Hunter is a book that knows its audience and serves them exactly what they want. It’s an action-packed, steamy, and straightforward power fantasy.

You’ll love this book if: You’re a fan of Logan Jacobs' other series, enjoy fast-paced urban fantasy with minimal filler, and don’t mind (or actively seek out) prominent harem romance elements in your stories. It’s a great start to a long series that fans have clearly embraced.

You should probably skip it if: You prefer slow-burn character development, deep romantic plots, or are irritated by tropes where every supernatural woman is instantly drawn to the protagonist. The "all-id, no-ego" portrayal of paranormal drives mentioned by some reviewers might also frustrate you.

Final Verdict: A solid, entertaining entry in Jacobs' catalogue. It won’t win awards for literary depth, but it will keep you flipping pages. I blazed through it in a couple of sittings with a grin, even while rolling my eyes at some of the more over-the-top moments. If this is your genre, it’s a worthy addition to your TBR.

A entertaining Urban paranormal story

I really like this urban fantasy it has good story elements and I like to direction the story is going. The characters are interesting and I like the way they interact with each other. The main character was kind of interesting he's strong has good moral fiber but he's not afraid to take care of things when he needs to. Although I thought he was a little bit slow and understanding some things that were going on around him. But the story was still a good read and I would like to read the next book hope it comes out soon.

Different supernatural take

Jacobs has written a different take on the supernatural world. Interesting and fun read with the protagonist starting out clueless, but somehow survived. Of course now he's god givens answer to females. The adventure gets him to face off against monsters and bad guys and survive while evolving. Easy and fun read again, sequel should be interesting.

Fun Read

Carter Hatfield is a college student just getting along when he is kidnapped and brought to a remote area to be sacrificed. At the last minute, he transforms into a werepanther and decimates his attackers. While in a daze trying to figure out what happened, A beautiful classmate who he has a crush on shows up to help him. I like the action, humor, and love/lust. I look forward to the next book.

Warepanther is Revealed

A ware-animal that has been hunted and killed since Egyptian times has been found by cultists and prepared for sacrifice to their God, but he gets free and kills them all. Now he's being hunted by several groups, but with the aid of a fairy and Succubus he is ably to 'rise' to the occasion and kill each of his pursuers.
Fun read after it got going and the sex was fun, but not the main focus of the story.

Fun and exciting!

A great start to an amazing and action packed new series by Logan Jacobs!

The blend of supernatural elements with the modern world is a nice touch. I've always enjoyed urban fantasy, but this book kicked it up a notch.
And you get a sense of the stake almost right from the start.

I can't wait to see how this develops!

Another great series by Logan

I swear Logan's writing gets better with each new series. I am hooked. As to be expected the world building and character development are excellent and the story is really cool. A different take to what Logan normally does, but still very very cool. Lots of action of all sorts. Well worth the read.

Love this new series

I was hesitant to start a series about the paranormal but this is easily one of Logan Jacobs best series, and it's just the beginning so I can't wait for the next.

Did not think I would like it, but....

When I first picked this up, my first thought was that it was gimmicky and would not be interesting. Thank God I was wrong! I fond it to be a fast paced, attention grabbing read that I cannot wait to see what happens next

Pretty decent

I know most of the readers are really into all the graphic little details of the amorous activities. Guess I am weird as sometimes too much detail distracts from the plot. But still, not a bad read

Fantastic Shifter Story!

This is a great albeit unique story about Shifters. Which was very fun book to read. As it has all the things that make a story a wonderful read. Such as plenty of action, sex drama, a great storyline, etc.

Mostly good.

A little uneven . But entertaining. One thing this author does well is creating characters that are likeable. I won't read anything without likeable characters. His female lead needs some fleshing out though. Looking forward to the next one!

Starts nicely but turns into just another Jacobs coitus fest.

Jacobs has a style and unfortunately it's overused. The werepanther idea started well, but it turns into another harem novel before the end.

I just started reading Logan Jacobs... I loved Backyard Dungeon. This was my next try. It was written well, but the story seemed drawn out without smooth movement. I just got board. So I am on to another of his series and I just started and I am loving so.

If you are looking for a romance book, that is not this. This is a horny teenage boy’s fantasy of what college would be like… Complete with a giant magical penis, impossibly beautiful woman who can’t get enough of him, and bad ass super-strength. Frankly, it’s ridiculous.
