I read this on the plane to the BRK shareholders' meeting in Omaha. I was glad to have some personal accounts to know what to watch for and what to anticipate upon arrival.
I felt several of the accounts were a little long-winded, but the book served its purpose.

WHEN YOU LEARN SOMETHING THAT DOESNT CHANGE YOU CAN GET OFF THE TREADMILL OF KEEPING UP AND START TO COMPOUND YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

APPLYING TIMELESS CONCEPTS TO WHATEVER IS TOPICAL REVEALS A DEEP, MULTI-LAYERED UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE WORLD. IMPLICIT IN ALL OF THIS IS HOW TO WORK WITH THE WORLD RATHER THAN AGAINST IT.

Omaha sets a tone that's good for investing, away from the hubbub, separate from the wild schemes and rumours, without the pressure to go along with the crowd and believe the latest gossip.

Tom Gayner first attended a BH meeting in 1984 at age 22 after reading a Fortune article about him.

Investors receive one big break from the Government - tax deferral on unrealised gains.

One of BH's strengths is the ability to do nothing, and willingness to do anything when assessing investments.

Investing knowledge is cumulative.

One only needed a couple of smart ideas in an investing lifetime to be successful.

In science we look at exceptions to learn deeply.

Great professors like WB never tell the deep answers in formulas; they let the students discover the answers themselves.

The most common ingredient across BH businesses is outstanding management.

It is extremely difficult to get rich by investing in companies earning a low ROE.

Rub your nose in your weaknesses (CM).

Better to be vaguely right than precisely wrong. Having a margin of safety determines how vaguely right you can afford to be.

BH shareholders are interested but patient, sceptical yet patient and serious yet fun.

As a young person, this book was a great read. I have admiration for what Buffett, Munger and their cohort built. I am a bit biased because I live and grew up in Omaha. I liked the little tidbits of Omaha folks mentioned like Dr. Yong Shi (my teacher last semester), Todd Simon, Walter Scott and Phil/Beth Black. I visit the Black's bookstore, the Bookworm, regularly. This book is a good read if you're interested in learning about the Berkshire weekend and all contributing authors care deeply about this event and its shaped them. That's powerful.

My friend gave this one to me as a gift. Unfortunately it’s close to the most useless book I have ever read. But I have a habit of always finishing a book I started so I pushed on but it wasn’t easy. It’s an extremely low brain cell read. Mostly just guys singing praise on Buffett ( except a few true legends like jack bogle) and their experience in the shareholder weekend. i.e how amazing to ran into munger in the bookstore, how early they wake up for the meeting etc. Most of the writing are very bad. It’s a waste of time reading it.

This book is fine. I was liked that it is organized into groups of essays. So you can bounce around and read the authors or topics you are most interested in. Overall - the topic of this book - a certain shareholder meeting... kinda boring. Wouldn't say I learned anything special on this read. But if you were already a fan and interested in hearing what the meetings are like, this is a nice read.

A curated selection of essays about Berkshire annual meetings. There are feature some nice anecdotes about people's experiences at the annual meeting and also some nice stories behind the scene. A quick read - but if you want to experience the meeting, then go yourself if you can.
