A beautifully redesigned edition of the only authoritative guide to the most traditional form of yoga that teaches poses, breathing techniques, and meditations to bring bodies and minds together in a healthier, balanced union.
Americans have adopted yoga as one of the most effective and enjoyable ways to stay healthy. But yoga isn’t only about increasing flexibility and holding onto that youthful glow. As yoga becomes more popular, much of its original spirit is disappearing. While every yoga class includes a period of meditation, the majority of classes focus on learning postures to tone and strengthen the body. The Kundalini Yoga Experience teaches practices that equally target the body, the mind, and the spirit to improve every aspect of your health and tap into your own unique stores of healing energy.
Professional Kundalini instructors Guru Dharma Khalsa and Darryl O’Keefe offer a balanced step-by-step program based on breathing, poses, and meditation to help you become the best person you can be—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Beautifully illustrated with more than fifty full-color photos and line art, The Kundalini Yoga Experience reveals the purest form of yoga—one that combines physical fitness with emotional health and spiritual satisfaction.
This is such a well explained introduction to energetic concepts and Kundalini Yoga. I found the explanation of the glandular system and the chakras to be especially helpful, and the chakra questionnaire is great, even for those who are familiar with these concepts.
The introduction to The Kundalini Yoga Experience says: “Do the best you can.“ This is advice I did not heed when younger, particularly when it came to yoga. Why not just do the best, full-stop? Though I’d been practicing yoga for many years, my flexibility and strength had waxed and waned with various injuries and the inexorable progress of aging. Case in point: a few years ago I grew envious of a certain yoga instructor’s Instagram feed, which routinely featured her doing impossible-looking handstands in exotic locales. So that year, I resolved to nail handstands. Then came carpal tunnel syndrome, locking my wrists. Even a simple down dog was much too painful to practice. Distraught, I gave up yoga entirely.
Then I found The Kundalini Yoga Experience. Like your very own personal yoga instructor, this book unspools centuries of yogic wisdom, the basis of which is knowing yourself from within. That means listening to your breath and your body and adjusting your practice accordingly. This book is all about balance: emotional, physical, and spiritual. It’s both a comprehensive look at the history and pillars of yoga as well as an illustrated guidebook for posture and breath. Anyone practicing yoga—from newcomers to regulars—can benefit from its wisdom.
I read a little - put it down and find practical application. Then I pick it up again and want to start all over from the beginning. IT's hard to get through the book because I want to absorb everything it has to offer.
This informed me on my recent pratice. Kundalini is to be experienced, not learned. This book expanded my knowledge, especially numerology and chakras.
I thought there would be more of the philosophy of Kundalini yoga behand this book. However, it was more practical information, such as yoga poses, etc.
This book has a nice balance of read now pages and mark for later pages, each easy to distinguish. As a newb to Kundalini this book was immediately useful and also worth keeping next to my yoga mat.
