Chase Wilde Comes Home

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Ryan begins a brand-new series with a western set romance between a former soldier and the mother of his child. Perfect for fans of Diana Palmer, Linda Lael Miller, and BJ Daniels.

They're tough, tender, and sometimes tormented; they're the Wildes of Wyoming, three brothers whose family ties are as strong as their wills.

Chase Wilde never expected to fall in love, especially with Shelby Payne. Years before, one passionate night had drawn these two lost souls together. Then Chase left on deployment with the Army, while Shelby raised their baby alone. Now he's back, a wounded warrior determined to turn his life around. Shelby knows what it's like to lose everything, including her own family. So she offers him a bargain: if he can prove himself to be the man he says he is, she will let him into their daughter's life...and maybe even into hers.

Chase knows it will take a lot to prove to Shelby that there's more between them than the single night they spent together. She's everything he's ever wanted, including the voice of reason he needs to reconcile his past and be the man he wants to be for them both. But just as their lives come together, she's torn away from him by a dangerous person from her past, and saving her means saving himself . . . because he can't live without her.

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Wyoming Wilde series. I really loved this book. I love seeing the characters learning to love themselves, and Them overcoming their past. I loved the storyline in this book, and the characters where so well done. The suspense in this book slow grow through out this book which I felt was really well done. I loved the ending so much. There was some twists and turns in this book, but I did guess one of the twists way before it was revealed. I do not think guessing that twists hurt my love of this book. Note: This book covers some topics that could upset some readers, so I would say if you get upset by this you read look into the topics this book as in it before reading it. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Avon) or author (Jennifer Ryan) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I love this author, and am excited for the new series. This story is pretty heavy and not sunshine and roses. Chase has a lot to deal with and maybe make up for. Shelby is strong. Together they make a great couple. HEA.

Chase Wilde Comes Home is the first book in the NEWEST series that Jennifer Ryan is releasing and every time I see a new series from this author, I just want to dance a jig of joy because her books just work in every way for me. I will say that technically this isn't a new series, it is connected to the previous series. In the last book of the Wild Rose Ranch series, where our hero barely survived and is best friends with Drake. And I have been wanting Chase's book for quite a few years and I am so happy that Jennifer Ryan was able to write his story. So Jennifer Ryan fans especially will be thrilled with this latest release and seeing this tortured soul's story come to life.

Chase Wilde Comes Home is a heart wrenching second chance romance that features:

Chase Wilde -Ex Military, Scarred and in Drug recovery dealing with PTSD, single father

Shelby Payne-single mother, shy but strong, abused

Chase Wilde Comes home, starts off with seeing our hero, Chase Wilde, on his last day in rehab. He has been battling PTSD and struggling with drug addiction, and was almost recovered when he risked everything to try to save a young woman, his best friends woman's sister, but she overdosed on purpose and as a result, he almost lost his life in trying to save her life. And now he is in recovering and ready to take back his life, the woman he loves, and his precious daughter. Chase is a man that has sacrificed so much for his family, and his country and is still suffering from that sacrifice. He met Shelby, one night at a bar, and he was attracted to her sweet yet shy personality that drew him in like a bee to honey. They shared one beautiful night together and then he went to serve in the military and a child resulted in that one night. He had to spend years being away from his daughter, Eliza. He hasn't been the man that Shelby or Eliza deserves and he is more determined than ever to prove to them that he is back for good and willing to fight for them, no matter what it takes. Shelby has been in love with Chase for years, but will also protect their daughter. She has suffered much in her life but has a spine of steel because of it. And her dream has always been to have Chase Wilde in her life, but wonders if he could ever truly love her as she loves him?

I've wanted you every day since that night, I'm not going anywhere, Chase, because the only place I want to be is with you

Chase Wilde Comes Home is a story that I simply fell so hard for in this one here. I couldn't get enough of seeing this story unfold in the sweet deep ways that it was penned. I have always been a solid fan of Jennifer Ryan, and I am be a bit biased as I love everything she writes, but I do try to be as honest as I can in how I look at her books. This story is one that I have been waiting years on and it definitely was such a solid romance and it filled me with such love and sweetness and it was everything that I was expecting and more. We don't see as many shy heroines in romance as we used to and I really loved seeing this heroine. I truly adored her so much. She is a fighter though, she may be shy and reserved around Chase, but she will protect and defend those she loves. I love how dedicated she is to her family. She has been treated so horribly by her own family. She is the result of her mother being kidnapped, abused and raped. And now her birth father is released from prison and wants her in his life. And now Chase is coming home and back into her life, As Chase and Shelby reconnect their love and friendship, learning to adapt to the new change in circumstance and building some new but also dealing with the threat of Shelby's birth father. I really adored seeing all the characters come together in this book. We get some fun interactions with Chase's family, and seeing them reconcile was delightful (and I can't wait for his brothers to have stories)

That night, you made me feel beautiful and special and wanted and needed. For the first time in my entire life, I felt like I was enough. You didn't know anything about me, except what you saw and what we shared. I thought it would be quick and you'd be gone after the first time. But you stayed, and you wanted more, and I didn't want you to go, because you saw only me....and that was the best gift

Chase Wilde Comes Home features a romance that I recommend checking the trigger warnings on. There are some aspects that may be challenging for some to read. This is a romance that was so heartfelt and it will evoke feelings deep within the heart and soul. This is the talent of Jennifer Ryan's writing, I love how her books can be full of so much intensity but at the same time have a cozy feel to them that you just want to soak up as much as possible. You find such reliability with Chase and Shelby in the small moments that will leave you embracing this story to the depths. There is such sweetness delved into this story to balance out the more serious tones of the feels of the story. We do see a serious elements of PTSD and drug recovery, and the damage of emotional abuse. We also see the complexities of unrequited love. Both Chase and Shelby have been in love with each other for quite a long time, but a relationship hasn't been possible until now and they also have a daughter that is a vital art of the equation. I just loved seeing how this author brought this story together and it was told in such a way that will captivate the heart of her readers in such delicious ways.

Overall I found Chase Wilde Comes Home to be a superb story that fed my heart in all the delectable ways that this author is guaranteed to accomplish. You will feel at home with this endearing romance in its most precious intricate moments to guide you to an epic happily ever after that has been years in the making....

2022; Avon/HarperCollins

I am in love with Jennifer Ryan's Cowboy romances. They are a great escape, with endearing characters. This is the reason I read romances to have that predictable HEA, but having to overcome issues. This is a first in a new series, and if you are looking for a fun great romance this would be a great novel to pick out. If you have not yet read a cowboy romance, you need to! If you like Hallmark romances these are great for when you need comfort read.

A beautifully written love story of two broken souls finding each other and thriving. When their families and town had written them off, Chase and Shelby discovered their dreams and made them happen. We follow the journey of support and the shared love of a little girl that healed them both.

Shelby understands Chase like no one else. She sees his big heart with how he treats her and his daughter, she does what she can to make sure he has a chance. But, are his demons too big? She is not immune to her emotional baggage.

Add a few twists, slow-building suspense, and an ending to warm your heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Chase Wilde is finally home after going through some of the hardest years of his life. He gave his life to his country and his heart to Shelby and their daughter Eliza. While serving overseas he endured a lot of physical and emotional trauma and became addicted to pain medications, but now he's back and ready to put that part of this past behind him. Shelby is one of the most beautiful, understanding characters that I've ever read. Growing up, she's always been an outcast because of her parents. Chase is the only one who's been able to break down her walls and support her the way she deserves even knowing her history. His family is less than accepting of her and I love how Chase is all in and will put them first above all else. There is a few surprises that pop up throughout while the storyline kept me flipping page after page. Each of these characters come so far in their story and their development was beautiful. The world created with the Wild family has me excited to see the secondary characters get stories!

We have second chance romance between Chase and Shelby. It was a little slow for me and there was a lot , a lot of going on, there was times that it picked up but then it would be slow again, it was good but a little slower than I am used to.

Chase and Shelby have a one night stand that results in a baby. He's deployed and comes home hurt. He falls into addiction but gets help. It's a long road and Shelby never gives up on him (unlike his family). They have a long rode with some drama along the way to get to their HEA, but it's a beautiful journey to get there.

Chase Wilde Comes Home is book one in author Jennifer Ryan’s newest series, Wyoming Wilde.

****This review may contain spoilers — stop reading now to avoid them****

*****Before I start the review this book has several potential triggers including: substance abuse, addiction, and overdose; Murder of secondary characters off page; mental & physical abuse of a MC; Rape of secondary character off page; Mental illness including: Delusional states, PTSD, and psychopath; abduction of MC.*****

This story is one that is FULL of emotional baggage and follows two characters who are trying desperately to leave the past behind and live in the now. Shelby & Chase met one night at a bar, it was his last night home on leave from the military, they spent it together - had an explosive night of amazing sex — then Chase left Shelby behind to return to duty. Turns out he leaves Shelby with a piece of himself and 9-months later his daughter was born, he watched via a cellphone while sitting in a battlefield, his heart was claimed that day by Shelby & his baby girl Eliza. Fast-forward two years, numerous video calls, and many battle wounds (mental & physical) and Chase is coming home. Only he doesn’t come back to his hometown the same man he was when he left; he is addicted to pain medication and suffering from severe PTSD. Shelby has to send him away one night when he shows up high and out of his mind, she tells him “Get your shit together if you want to see your daughter” — Chase checks into rehab. Two months later Shelby is there to pick him up from rehab and all Chase wants is to start a life with her and their daughter.

Of course having their HEA was never going to be easy but the odds are even more stacked against them because Shelby doesn’t believe anyone could ever want or love her. You see Shelby is the consequence of her mother being kidnapped, tortured, and raped. Nobody has ever cared for her, not her mom who tried to drown her as an infant, not her grandparents who raised her out of duty then washed their hands of her, and definitely not the town she grew up in where people won’t let her live without ridicule and disdain. So she can’t understand why Chase would want her other than to see his daughter.

Talk about emotional baggage and angst — this story has it in spades!! When I was reading this story I just kept wondering how much more the author was going to put these two through. I just wanted them to find some happiness and fall in love with each other. These two deserve their happily ever after. The question is, do they have a chance with the deck stacked against them?

The chemistry and passion between Chase and Shelby was off the charts— Hot. Hot. Hot 🔥🔥 Jennifer Ryan definitely knows how to write some hot scenes. Make sure you bring an extra pair of panties because they are going up in flames!

Overall I am giving this story a solid 4 Stars ⭐️ | 4 Flames 🔥 and I hope the author remembers the epilogue next time!

Imperfections are what make us humans. No matter how far wrong we have gone, we can always turn around. Takes lot of courage, non-judgemental support and unconditional love to follow this path, and finding forgiveness from the places we hurt is the ultimate in redemption.

Meet Chase Wilde. A warrior at heart, but fighting demons of the unthinkable. With stilted family dynamics, and trying to make a fresh start, he’s at the crossroads of his life. His saving grace is his adorable daughter and the mother of his child, Shelby Payne.

A loving mother and with her heart belonging to Chase Wilde since she was a teenager, Shelby Payne is the ultimate crusader for Chase, supporting his struggles, and helping him chase his demons. With a troubled past of her own, yet with courage, she creates an intelligent and remarkable opportunity for Chase to come home to - to a home, a family, and a chance to make a life of his own.

Both Shelby and Chase may be in love with each other, but they have shadows of evil dogging their backs and they need to put them to rest before they can become a family. Then and only then “Chase Wilde Comes Home”, truly and forever.

Jennifer Ryan always had an exceptional writing and narrative skill and no review will do justice to any of her books unless read in person. Her narrative always makes me emotional, be it a situation between a father and son, siblings or between lovers. They are poignant, realistic and so very true to the circumstances in the plot.

She has set precedence to another intense series as the Wyoming Wildes take the readers on an exhilarating ride!!!

This is such a fantastic book, I was hooked from page one. It’s an emotional journey for Chase. Luckily Shelby gives him another chance, she’s so good for him and seems to know exactly what he needs to heal. I also felt for her as she’s never felt good enough. I didn’t care for his family at first but loved how they made repairs with him and with Shelby and their daughter Eliza. The story also keeps us on edge, wondering just how safe Shelby and Eliza are. This author’s writing always makes me cry and I often re read her books. The sense of family is great too. It’s a very heartwarming ever after too. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy through NetGalley and I highly recommend this book.

Kind of boring. Don't like weak characters. Romance was just not there for me.

Story.

Shelby & Chase had a ONS 3 years prior which resulted in pregnancy. Chase served in the military and I liked the fact that Shelby let him know immediately about the pregnancy and she even had a video installed in the baby's room where he can access his baby girl any time he wanted.

That said, in the present time, we learn that Chase has major PTSD after being discharged & that he was hooked on drugs. He overdosed twice and Shelby helped him both times. Heroine in this story is his support system constantly (both physically & emotionally) and she even bought him a house to come home to!

Got to be honest - after a while it became tiresome to see her constantly be the one wearing the pants in this relationship. I like Alpha Heroes and this one was not it. He wasn't bad per se - just not a "Hero" in my view as he constantly needed attention & to be taken care of by heroine. He also had family issues with his Father & brothers that I liked how they were able to get past it and come together as a family again. I did wish though that Author had incorporated more bonding of the baby girl with her Father & his brother Hunt. It just seemed that every cute scene with their daughter was always with the younger brother and it just felt off that the Grandfather would not be the one more invested in his grandchild.....

As for heroine, she has some hard background in the fact that her Bio Dad raped her Mother and it resulted in her Mom trying to drown her when she was a baby. After her mom committed suicide, she was brought up by her Maternal Grandparents who were cold people. So it was a bit depressing to constantly read how she didn't feel worthy & how she always helped others and didn't expect anything in return. It didn't help that others had predisposed opinions about her ,BUT she she did have one very good friend who helped her come out of her shelf a bit.

As for the "suspense" in the story, it comes in the form of her Father having been released from jail and wanting a relationship with her & her daughter. It was a bit of a let down there too because when the "event" occurred, it was anticlimax and really didn't serve anything to the story - other then to think how psychotic he was.

SAFETY:

No OW/OM drama
No cheating, though after they had their ONS and she told him that she was pregnant, he stated that he "tried" to hook up with someone to forget heroine/pregnancy but couldn't. Wish people would stop writing this nonsense. What purpose did it serve to tell us he tried to have sex with OW in order to forget heroine when she just told him she was pregnant with his kid? It only showed him as a douche to even THINK of doing that much less attempt it! Especially when for the entire story, he is shown as a devoted dead and someone who really cares for heroine....

In this story, Chase Wilde is leaving a rehab unit where he almost died after giving someone CPR after they OD on fentanyl he ended up getting it through exposure from that person. He is still dealing with his injuries from the war as well.
Wondering who if anyone will be there to pick him up the one person he is surprised to see is Shelby, the woman he loves and is also the mother of their little girl. She is happy to see him as well but does not want to get her hopes up. As they head back to the town she tells him her rules so he can see their daughter, he agrees with everything.
Driving into a ranch he is surprised to find out that she bought it for him with the money he kept sending, he is also not happy that his father and brothers are there. They are still mad at him for taking their mother from Montana to the ocean so she could pass away from cancer.
There are a lot of emotions going on in this book one thing is for sure he loves his little girl and Shelby. But with all of the good that is going on slowly a dark person from Shelby’s past is making things difficult and is threatening their peace. See what happens in this very good story with very good characters. Very much worth the read. I received this book from Netgalley.com

Chase Wilde is home from the military. He has scars and nightmares and is trying to get through all of that to make a life for himself.
His family has abandoned him.
Apart from Shelby Payne who he had a one night stand with before going back on duty. They ended up with a baby daughter. The idea of being re-united with Shelby and his daughter has gotten him through the worst of his battles with the physical and mental pain of the wartime battles he has been through. He vowed he would come back to them and he did.
Shelby has been alone her whole life but has promised Chase that if he can get his life together, she would give him a chance to be in his daughter's life.
Chase has a real challenge in front of him.
Meanwhile, Shelby has a dangerous stalker after her.
So everyone around Shelby and Chase are put into danger.
Lots of things going on and some real issues addressed.

I loved this book and hated to see it end!
Chase is finally out of the military, as well as rehab, and is hoping to reconnect with Shelby, the mother of his daughter, Eliza. But he is wounded, in pain, depressed, estranged from his family, and the list goes on and on.
Poor Shelby is being stalked by a dangerous psychopath. Baby Eliza seems to be the only light in all of this darkness.
The exploration of Chase's PTSD and Kyle's mental illness is fascinating and really enhanced this awesome story.

This author is hit or miss for me - unfortunately this book in a miss. I did not feel the chemistry between these two characters - I actually spent the entire book wondering why either of them would want to be with the other. They were boring and bland. The book could have been about half the size of the finished product because they repeated themselves so much. I got tired of reading the same old messages and thoughts. Not my favorite book and I would not recommend it.

This book was really sweet. I'm pretty new to the romance genre and had yet to read a romance suspense book so that was a fun surprise! I loved how flawed and wonderful the characters in this book were.

I really related to Shelby in so many ways. Growing up feeling like a burden while just trying to make it through a rough childhood. Then dealing with the aftermath as an adult, making sure you do right by your own child so they never have to feel the way you did.

Finding that one perfect person who you can be your real true self around. The first person who has ever let you just be you. Two broken people meeting at a time when they both needed it the most and becoming everything they never had is one of my favorite storylines.

The character growth, the suspense, the twists, the tension...it all kept the pages flipping and I enjoyed every minute. I read another review of this book that says Jennifer Ryan sure knows how to write some steamy scenes and I gotta say, I completely agree.

The ending to this was perfect and I think my favorite character has to be sweet little Eliza. She was too cute! It probably helps that I have a 3 year old so I could easily relate, but she really was adorably written.

Loved this book and can't wait for book 2! So excited to read about Hunt in the next one. I really hope Max will get his own book too!

I would also like to thank the publisher, Harper Collins/Avon Books, for sending me an advance review copy. And another big thank you to Jennifer Ryan for writing such a sweet story!

Reviewing for Verve Romance

A deeply emotional and seriously sexy romance, CHASE WILDE COMES HOME will put your heart through the wringer before leaving a smile on your face. If you’ve read Jennifer Ryan before, you may be familiar with Chase—he was a pivotal, if small, part of TOUGH TALKING COWBOY—and this is a rewarding payoff for those who survived the sucker punch that was the ending of that book.

Seriously, I am still not over that one. I’ve read it three times; I cried every single one of them.

Chase and Shelby’s relationship is born of a one-night stand that resulted in a baby, and while it shouldn’t work, it does. Shelby is a sweet, supportive partner to Chase as he’s recovering from PTSD, battle injury, and addiction, willing to put her daughter first and risk hurting the man she loves to help him. She has strength without being so brittle that she is afraid to be vulnerable and has herself a lot to overcome from her tumultuous past. I just plain liked her. A lot.

As I mentioned above, my heart ached for Chase at the end of TOUGH TALKING COWBOY and continued to do so as he navigated life after service and rehab. I liked Chase all the more for trying to do the right thing for the women he loved, even to the detriment of his relationship with his brothers and father. I can’t wait to get into the minds of Max and Hunt when they get their own books, that’s for sure.

Ryan is a go-to author for me for many reasons, including the way she deftly manages her stories. She gives them an edge as the suspense builds while also making sure the love story grows in strength from page to page. It’s a joy to read her books, even when they’re liable to make you (me) cry.

All in all, this was a great start to a new series with a hero trying to get his life back on track, a heroine with a big heart, and a couple of brothers I can’t wait to learn more about.

I had some mixed feelings about this book. The first half of the book was EXTREMELY slow. Then, it picked up a little bit, got slow again, and then picked up at the end. Yes, this book covers some very heavy and serious topics: PSTD, rape, kidnapping, murder, addiction... it's a lot all in one book. At times, I felt like I was never going to get through it, but I just kept going. I can't even tell you how many times I almost DNF this book. Honestly, I would put the book down in the middle of the scene and then when I picked it back up a few hours later, I would have to go back to understand what I was reading. I don't normally forget what I'm reading when I'm only reading one book.

Aside from that, I actually really enjoyed the characters. I loved Shelby and Chase. I loved their love story and how they got together. They have been through a lot together, but still love each other through all the ups and downs. The plot was actually interesting, despite me almost not being able to get through the book. Chase just got out of rehab and wanted to start over with Shelby and their daughter to become the person that he wanted them to be.

I think my main problem with this book was that it just seem to drag on forever and I never felt like I was making progress until I hit the 50% mark. I am almost tempted to continue the series to see what happens with Chase's brother, Hunt, because I know it will be an interesting story and I loved the characters; however, I don't know if I could get through it.

Also, the cover is amazing!

I got this book as an arc for a condition of an honest review

I liked this book but this is not a feel good romance and deals with harder issues such as ptsd after war, drug abuse and sexual abuse/assault

Chase comes home from war not the same person he was as he went . He has trouble with his family and trouble with the mother of his child.
He goes to rehab to help with the drug issues he was using to cope. He has a lot of survivors guilt and is trying to cope with that .
His family is angry that he helped his mother end her life when she had enough with the cancer.
To keep the ranch afloat he enlists and sends money home .
During one of his leaves he meets somebody and they have what is a one night stand but that turns into a baby nobody expected.

She is a wonderful person and named the baby after his mother which he is thankful for. They grow closer as he is overseas and the baby is close too due to a vid cam he is able to connect to the baby with.

There is an unexpected turn no one expects from Shelby’s past. Her father is not a good man . He kidnapped and raped her mother . He is delusional and won’t give up.

Shelby didn’t have a good upbringing and always felt unwanted . He grandparents didn’t want her because of what she represented and her mother committed suicide and tried to kill her too because of the painful memories

This book has a good portrayal of the steps veterans deal with returning from war and was a good learning experience.

I received this ARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This story was very difficult and emotional in some parts because of the subjects (PTDS, Substance Abuse and Low Self- Esteem) that Ryan has included in her story. I really enjoy this love story and routing for both Chase and Shelby.

You are pulled into the relationship of Chase Wilde who suffers from PTDS and recovering from substance abuse and Shelby Payne who has a very low self-esteem because of her history and the treatment she has received from townspeople. These two lost souls meet up and have a wild and wonderful one night stand before Chase ships out on assignment. Shortly afterwards Shelby finds out she is pregnant and tries to contact Chase but it becomes difficult but she finally does. He is somewhat involved with their daughter until the PTDS and drugs became a problem. Chase cleans himself up and finds a place to live until he is in a better frame of mind but a tragic accident happens and Chase almost dies from an overdose of cocaine. His family has given up on him, he has given up on himself but Shelby and his daughter are there for him and gives him the will to move on. This story follows this relationship and its difficulties but true love conquers all.

Chase Wilde Comes Home by Jennifer Ryan begins her new series, Wyoming Wilde. This is a story about Case Wilde's return from deployment after several times being wounded and thus has PTSD yet he is determined to be the best father he can be. Shelby Payne is Eliza's mother and the heroine of this story. Chase and Shelby have a tough path to a HEA but I was so glad they made it. This was an emotional, satisfying read for me. I enjoyed meeting the characters. Toddler Eliza is a real cutie, spaghetti sauce face and all.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Picking up a Jennifer Ryan novel is a guarantee that nothing else will get done until I've finished reading! This is the first book in what most likely will be a trilogy featuring the Wilde brothers. Chase, the oldest Wilde sibling, is dealing with PTSD and is fresh out of rehab but what he wants more than anything is to connect with his daughter and hopefully her mother. But Shelby has her own set of issues to overcome that may prevent her from finally having the family she's never had. Plenty of drama, romance and a touch of suspense made this a very enjoyable read. There are some potential triggers in this book including the mention of a rape (Shelby was conceived during a rape), overdose and mental illness.

Chase is no different from the other wilde men they are H.O.T and after getting injured and addicted to pain pills. But the only thing that mattered was his daughter and when Shelby never stop supporting him he realized he had something. Now it's time for him to help her.things would never get any better so they had to find a way to stay safe.
